Why is everyone assuming that the guy that broke the sword is captain level or less? Come on!! he has his face hidden by a f***ing handkerchief!! Why would a marine hide his face when attacking pirates? Plus, he broke zoro's sword and we don't know what happened afterwards. I think he's an admiral or vice-admiral or anybody else important and we will know. About the rusting ability, if he is an important guy I think the fruit will be the aging fruit or something like that, more useful.
Akainu anyone? We saw the bottom part of his face. Now only his top is showing, it would be convenient.
I don't understand why people think that Luffy can suddenly defeat Lucci if Usopp motivates him.
Luffy was fighting with the knowledge that his entire crew would be assassinated in the event of his own defeat.
I remember the fight between Luffy and Don Krieg, and specifically I remember Zeff saying that the person who 'wanted it more' would win. In every fight so far, Luffy has 'wanted it more' than his opponent.
In this fight, I don't see that as being the case. Luffy no longer has that advantage, further, Luffy is physically inferior to Lucci.
Luffy lost his fight with Aokiji because he lacked strength, so Luffy developed new technique to deal with this problem. He lost this fight because he lacked endurance.
It was stated somewhere that this was the concluding chapter of the fight, why would they blatantly lie just to create tension? Usually, they'd state it as a question if it weren't actually the last chapter of the fight. "Is this the end of the fight!?" not, "This chapter concludes the fight."
Just as Luffy could not kick Aokiji's ass even if Usopp screamed to him with the same magnitude, Luffy cannot kick Lucci's. I won't say it's impossible though, since this is Oda we're dealing with, so Luffy might just ressurect and go super saiyan, I guess.
Still, I think it's more likely that Usopp will do something to save Luffy (NOT kick Lucci's ass, though), and it's very possible that now that Lucci defeated Luffy, he will collapse as well, or at least be unable to assassinate Luffy's crew due to the injuries he recieved.
Which will mean that Luffy's talk about protecting his crew was not bullshit.
well there is the title of this chapter Zoro's line about a storm earlier (although that could now That I think of it be in refrence to the 200 Captains)
Well you're pretty much right, it Zoro's line was predicting this next battle between the strawhats and the bustercall. I thought you were referring to Dragon coming and I think it's a bit ridiculous.
Anyway I really enjoyed this chapter because of the frantic war feeling that comes off from it. Fighting through Ennis Lobby was the beginning, beating the CP9 was the middle, and there’s a good chance that it’s nearing the end. Whether that means they lose and this arc turns into an Impel Down arc or if they win and/or escape, this Bustercall battle is definitely should be the one that finishes it all. I'm actually glad the Franky Family was removed from the picture because we can spend more time on this war.

I think in captains Battles, no Teamwork is allowed, and in SH battles three poeple won't have any support from others, because it will be a downgrade for their characters: Luffy, Zorro (this one never) and Sanji.

Luffy vs Aokiji wasn't on the same contest as this situation, Aokiji was alone and just come to evaluate SH team and Robin, but now it's really diferent, Luffy losing may mean that One Piece is Over … just believe in Oda and hope he will be convincing in his next chapters.

You know what might be interesting? If Luffy got up, beat lucci, and collapsed, then Usopp ran over to save him, but was pursued by rust dude or bouncy ball guy.
Not likely, but it would solve a lot of the problems currently in place against Usopp gettng a fight with someone worthwhile. Oh, and while we're at it Robin could take rusty dude, or whatever he does.

i don't agree with that "a real captain"-line if you're refering to real life.
…but even in OP there were moments when luffy had to acknowledge that

Vivi lectured him at least once about what it means to be a good captain and in her point of view a real captain would never risk the lifes of his crew just because he's to proud to accept help.
Aokiji came to capture Robin, it was the same thing. You are acting like Aokiji just came to observe, when in fact, he specifically stated that he would capture robin/kill the strawhats. Only reason he didn't is because he owed someone a favor. Luffy would not have defeated Aokiji even if Aokiji slaughtered his entire crew right in front of his face.
Luffy was just defeated by Lucci, the only way he can survive now is based on the fact that Lucci will not leave it at this, he'll go in for the kill. Ussop will save Luffy right before Lucci kills him, though I'm not sure how.

Well, I know I'll avoid discussing the any concluding, since the source is "somewhere" and the fact is that the fight hasn't officially ended.
Funny you mention Zeff. That whole thing with Luffy's "spear" was his drive, he stood up against a guy deadlier than all hell with guts and determination. He was definitely thought to be outmatched in that fight until the very end.
And…..I would not compare Lucci to Aokiji. Uh, look at the fight. Before the Rokuo-gan Lucci was getting his ass kicked. Now Luffy will have the conviction of a lost friend to inspire him. Damned if he goes out with a Twin Pistol, the kid fought Crocodile twice more after getting impaled and poisoned. I hope you wouldn't declare it some typical shonen "spirit" cliche if Luffy got up, because that's what he does.
Now if Lucci passed out, yeah, Luffy will have protected his crew. But there's all that shit he blathered about beating the pigeon guy.

2: Ao Kiji showed up to recalculate the cost of their bounties and verify information. He just randomly decided to do the killing later

Next chapter, we see Luffy laying on the ground, dead. Lucchi plans to jump off the tower to kill more people. The Buster Call ordered the bridge and the escape ship blown up. All the marines, Lucchi, Spandam, Franky, Koroko, Gonbe and Chimney.
We see shots of dead Nami, Zoro, Usopp, Franky, Chopper, Robin, Sanji, and Luffy while we see shots of dead Lucchi, Kumadori, Blueno, Spandam, Fukurou, Califa, Jabura and Kaku.
We see more Buster Call actions and the chapter ends.
By 428, we see shots of pervious characters and current situations. By chapter 429, we see the ending shots. OP is over.

It may simply be solved by him stopping by a store and finding another uber sword for sale of course sadly enough, or god knows, next arc he might be one of the featured characters getting major screen time, the way Ussopp, Robin, and Franky did this arc. Regardless, unless he continues using the crap marine sword this could foreshadow another sword upgrade.

Because the Vice-Admirals themselves said to deploy their captains or less.
He can't be a Vice-Admiral because we have already seen the faces of the five that were sent with the Buster Call. His facial features are nothing like them.
Why would an Admiral take orders from someone who's a lower rank than them.
Why can't some captains just be stronger than others, the rank is spread among marines who are different in power and skill.

And why is the dude wearing a mask? It's a style, doofus. In the Middle-East, a lot of people hide their face. Blue Mages (A type of wizard that mimics the attacks of others) hide their faces as a way of being mysterious.
The whole reason these guys are semi-owning the Strawhats is because it's pointing out that up until this point, they've fought the villians under special circumstances without additional backup. This is a war, ladies and gentleman. It's best described in five words:
Infiltration
Assessment
Combat
Mopup
Withdrawal
In essence, the marines are doing what they could have done all along, but choose not to. The threat is elevated. When it gets to that point, you send in everything INCLUDING the Kitchen Sink.
When special operations fail, it's the only alternative.

I didn't get to read all of the comments on this chapter but here are my thoughts, the Luffy vs Lucci battle is being a little dragged out, I can understand why,Oda has to present the Luffy vs Lucci fight as the most difficult for Luffy or people would say "where is the character developement" oddly enough they would be the same people that are currently saying wow this is boring it needs to hurry up, but it still seems like overkill.
Next Chapter Luffy will beat Lucci then collapse, Ussop saves Luffy from the buster call, and Sanji comes by with their escape vessel while they are still fighting the captains. The strawhats escape with half the Buster Call on their backs with Luffy unconcious, and Chopper Immobile…. I can't think of anything else but that seems most realistic if the fight even ends next chapter. I pray that it does.
Wow just wow. Best chapter in like 7 weeks. One of the best ones I have ever read weekly. Lucchi this chapter was just badass IMO. Honestly I never really thought lucchi was "OMFG COOL" like crocodile or just "SWEET" like enel and arlong, but now he's definetly up there with "sweet". Luffy going down was cool. I was so shocked and sad to see yubruashi getting destroyed. ;-;. It looked so cool. I loved the raid, I thought it was brillent. I really have no problem with the length of this fight even though it is now like 6 chapters. Oda does something by showing us other things so the fight doesn't seem really boring or less exciting IMO like other manga artists.
I don't think I want the next chapter as bad since 400.

I don't know… I find the "kill Marine HQ Captains in one blow" concept slightly ridiculous, especially when surrounded by hundreds of them attacking at the same time, especially when these Captains have powers directly opposed to Zoro's fighting style.

The chances of Usopp confront Lucci are kinda hard, since Usopp is physically weak and he couldn't stand too much of Lucci's attacks. But hey, the Kabuto can be indeed a powerful weapon or Usopp use a Reject Dial in Lucci.
And where Sanji did go? I agreed with a mate of other forum that he probably would appear disguised as a Marine and make the real Marines attack themselves. But now I'm in doubt about this theory.

Sanji could be taking a BC ship. Then they won't need to beat them but just use sheer power against them. Gotta go with the he wont get a bounty again. He is just too in the backround. he hasnt even used his real name against the enemies.
Usopp probably will just inspire Luffy to get up and kick Lucci's ass. Then he could do something about the 200 Captains. Maybe he could shoot them with the BC cannon or show some crazy move on Lucci. The thing is though if its Lucci it won't work. Though it would be awesome if he had a move like Nami that would own a whole bunch of captains at once.
Lucci has all the powers of the other CP9, and the endurance of Usopp. Thats the best way to put it. He isn't original, and very serious, but a very tough opponent indeed. That is why Luffy vs Lucci seems to be dragging, because he is in a new league fighter than what they're used to. Hes a fighter they'll be meeting more of in the Grand Line.
Zoro losing a sword is okay by me. He'll get more development when he needs to get a new sword. Other than that he seems to be doing fine. Iono, him having Funkfried doesn't seem right. It'll be like Sogesword, too funny to be considered dangerous.
As for the captains, they totally look awesome, but will probably be nameless forever until Oda wants to name them for an SBS. There are 200 captains here each with skills or something that made them all captain rank. They are there though for the sole purpose of being a large group attacking the SHs, something they are not used too but need to get prepared for.
The VAs need more purpose than just leading though. Names for them would be more apporiate.
Thats all i've got for now, just gotta wait till next week.

My (serious) theory concerning their escape; they'll all get caught after being swarmed by the Captains and send to the Marine Headquarters in a Buster Call ship.
Enter Sanji, who was able to infiltrate the ship before the Captains attack and was hiding, waiting for a chance to act. He frees the crew, they all make their way Metal Gear Solid style to some evacuation ship and go back to W7 unbeknown to the Marine.
This is the less cheesy stuff I could come up with.

Thanks BF for the chapter. This chapter was probably one of the better chapters in the last couple of mothes. We have 200 captains vs the SH's and they are no pushovers. Remember they are Marine HQ captains and commanders so won't be the pushovers like Morgan, Fullbody, and Purin. Maybe its just me but the guy who broke Zorro's sword has an acid acid(his sweat turns to acid) fruit rather than a rust rust fruit.
I belive we are going to see a bunch of Ussop and Luffy interaction in the next chapter with Luffy finally defeating Luffy in chapter 428(which coincide with about the 50th chapter of the Enies Lobby sub arc).

A Cannon technique would work just as well on a rust guy as anything else. I don't think Zoro'd have too much trouble as long as he knows what he's dealing with.
