RE: Chapter 688: Mocha
This. You might remember my post in the "Criticism" thread where I mentioned that we lack distinctive panels. Well, what do you know: Oda did seem to acknowledge these problems as well and finally snapped out of the very fast Marineford pacing. We had great single panels with Chopper this week, not to mention Zoro and Luffy. It really feels more like classic One Piece again and despite people mourning a bit over Zoro's behaviour last week the whole direction is a positive thing in my opinion. Obviously newer One Piece fans who only knew the Marineford pace will be left stratled or disappointed, but they get used to it because they should realize that the whole Whitebeard saga had a special pacing (which changed too much between drawn-out and badly rushed for me).
Yeah, I think you're right about this being One Piece is all about. I hadn't thought about panel by panel layout specifically, but characters getting opportunity to shine is something that I look forward to and usually One Piece does it right. To me all the complaining is funny because when I read the chapter I was rushing through the flashback to get to the continuation of the action. However, wanting to know what happens next and not getting there fast enough are really stupid reasons to complain when reading an incomplete arc.

RE: Chapter 688: Mocha
And after taking the time to carefully analyze the content of your post, I came to the conclusion that you use fancy words without saying anything. I said what I dislike about the chapter - the flashback was too long and it said things we already know. While I like flashbacks and I don't mind repeating information( despite what some people assumed), the combination of these two facts made the chapter not very enjoyable. In addition, last week's chapter wasn't the best and next week we have a break. I think Oda can do better than this.
I'm going to aim for less fancy and more content this time, so bear with me. The reason why this flashback can be considered meaningful to the plot has pretty much been stated repeatedly by various people, often in direct response to you. Mocha risks death because she wants to protect everyone, and although we could have just assumed why she was helping Chopper and the rest of the kids, it's nice for her development to include a detailed reason so her decision carries more weight to it. I definitely get where you're coming from as far as from a single chapter standpoint in that it interrupts the action, but to call it unnecessary at this point is kind of silly as each panel of character interactions between the kids is something that can now be expanded upon as the story continues. I also enjoy the outraged doctor aspect of Chopper, so I'm looking forwards to what comes next.

RE: Chapter 688: Mocha
Read my posts carefully. I don't mind Chopper's moment or the kids' flashback or whatever. It's just that they were too long to remain interesting. The flashback with Chopper and Mocha is something that would fit very well in the anime, but not now, when the gas is coming in and everyone is in hurry, running, fighting etc.
After carefully reading your posts, I've come to understand that you can't properly articulate what's bothering you about this flashback with anything of substance. You've managed to look at the big picture by admitting it fits within the story while remaining shortsighted about its interruption of your perceived flow of said story. I guess you could argue that it could have just been a sequence in the manga as opposed to a flashback, but then I think it would have been less shocking to see Monster Chopper "fighting" the children.

RE: Attack on Titan: Why Genocide Is Sometimes Kind of Okay
This is clearly the fighting style of a mother who is finally reunited with her son.

RE: Hunter x Hunter
If the king had received pitou's powers, do you think he could have healed himself? Even though this arc is beginning to annoy me in that its lasted for so long, it's kind of cool that in the end Gon might have technically saved everyone because of his sacrifice, whatever that turns out to be. The reason I think its arguable that he could heal himself is because all the abilities he got from the royal guards got amplified.

RE: Chapter 625: "Uninherited Will" Discussion
Wow so many death fake-outs. It's pretty bad that every time I changed pages I expected to see her dead.

Good thing Zoro saved that Pirate Ship from the Krakken in chapter 599!
