No, it didn't. She was present for most of those chapters, only getting unconscious for a bit just before and during Luffy vs Lucci.

All the time, the story has been following her journey. She's the character introducing Egghead to Luffy, she's the one questioning Vegapunk, she's the one Vegapunk says he wants to give something, she finding Kuma's bubble is a big deal.

Vegapunk is important to the big picture, but the emotional arc here is all Bonney's/Kuma's. They are the ones the story begins hinting at and then halts so their past is told. It's to her that Nika's revelation is most important. Kuma and her are the biggest victims of Saturn's acts. It's for her and Kuma that Vegapunk goes out of the way to defy Saturn. Not to mention that Kuma is the character that was actually introduced hundreds of chapters ago and whose story has been teased for over a decade.

@Deicide First 30 goes to about 1088. Take away 5 chapters because that is Hachinosu, so that is about 25.

She spent 1067-1069 unconscious and once she wakes up - what happens? She is taken away from the immediate conflict and set off on the VP chase that leads to the PAW Room.

All those chapters of Stussy, CP0, Seraphim, York reveals and issues, Oda chooses to not involve her. You can't show me Bonney interacting with those characters because I spent those exact chapters questioning why she isn't involved.

Similar to me following Yamato barely interact with the crew and she ends up a Wano local which matches with how Oda treated her.

A whole bunch of chapters where VP and his acquaintances are being put into situations where Bonney is sidelined for her own plot that we are currently seeing being put to a close.

Still, VP lies at the center of this. Bonney is already receiving her payoff with her father and Pacifista inheritance.

@Cockycent the thing is: that conflict with York was off-screened and ended up being just a side quest, while Bonney was away to witness Kuma’s memories, which makes 8 chapters of flashback possible.

In the end, Bonney being away ended up being way more important than all the death game shenanigans.

@Deicide The York, CP0, was a precursor to Saturn entering the situation for VP. Now, Bonney is out the way. She is not who he came for, but her flashback has been taken out of the way.

It is all coming back to VP as it was in the beginning.

I guess Oda is treating Egghead and Elbaf as the breaks for the Straw Hats while the rest of the world gets more chaotic. I could see the Revolutionary Army and Vivi getting to Elbaf while the Straw Hats spend time there, after Stussy contacts Morgans and Dragon eventually figures out they're there so Luffy can deliver Vegapunk and Bonney to him.

So, what were Augur and Devon really up to on Egghead? It seems they weren't planning on Saturn being there, so was Vegapunk the original target and they got a better one by luck? But what are they going to do with said likeness?

My personal guess is somewhere like Marineford has a control center of sorts for the Seraphim, and they're looking to use what was going to be Vegapunk's likeness, now Saturn's, to program new orders.

@Johnny-B-Decent I imagined things just fell into place. Since Teach had an eye on Winner island expecting one of the 3 captains to show up there, he probably kept watch over Egghead and Elbaf as well.

So, when things started to happen, started moving to gain something out of it. Now, their full game is still unknown, but they probably saw the big bad Elder and just waited for the opportunity to get that big prize.

I've been seeing some people in other places being less hyped on Egghead due to how it's showing the WG and Marines to look incompetent. Part of that I feel is now that we are in end game, the threat that high leveled opponents posed such as Admirals are greatly diminished. For a crew with a captain that took down a Yonko 1v1, even accounting for others that briefly fought against Kaido, are going to have a lot less to worry about. That said, I think the bigger issue with some is how easily everything is being turned against the Marines and makes them look like a joke as a force, and personally, I feel like it's intentional.

Looking at the series as a whole, ever since the age of pirates started, the balance has been lofty at best. The WG is able to maintain a facade of control, but we clearly see in various ways that they maintain very little, with the obvious focus of the WG to keep the CD's happy and at the top of the world in terms of controlling the world. Anything outside of that can be easily discarded, and even the Marines outside of those like Koby and Smoker are fine with the system they work in. Egghead feels like the natural fact of everything, that ultimately while a sizable force, the Marines and WG aint'shit. Their one saving grace is that despite so many powerful forces out in the ocean, those forces are scattered and against each other. Now with the new generation, those forces are slowly changing and consolidating. Multiple groups of powerful crews are joining forces, and the WG will be unable to keep their control, as we've seen with Marijoa in shambles after the attack by the Revolutionaries, and now their creations that were to bolster their power being used against them.

So besides Kuma and Bonney's story being so well done, I've been pretty content with all these developments myself. Still, I can understand that some are justified in being disappointed and wanting more of a showing from the Marines

He had Bellamy after Crocodile, Foxy after Enel, etc. So he prob really doesn’t care to worry to make Saturn tons more threatening than Kaido because there’s no real point in doing so.

So Oda is prob treating this more like a glorified version of a transition arc like Jaya or Long Ring Long Land and making every excuse possible to draw cool designs and attack panels even if Saturn isn’t the same as Kaido.

That said, the bigger threats may start coming by the time of Elbaf. We’ll have to see.

Considering where we are in the story, Blackbeard is the only one that will be a huge threat from how I see it. With Big Mom and Kaido out of the picture, he's making moves to grab everything he needs to further his plan and it's only going to get crazier with how his crew functions and their capabilities. Imu will have great story significance, but I have my doubts on being a threat on a physical level. Only other character power wise is Shanks, but I don't see him as a huge threat since he's more a friend than an enemy.

If we have some smaller arcs more for build up with some fights, I have my doubts that anything on the level of Kaido or even Katakuri will be happening anytime soon, and I'm fine with that. I'm very curious just how everything is going to go between now and the Crew finding the One Piece

@The-Franky-Tank In theory the marines should still be a major threat due to how stacked they were supposed to be. But with how Oda has downplayed Kizaru, Akainu kept glued to his office, and auxiliary forces like Vice-Admirals were pretty much reduced to jokes, it does feel the marines have become too weak to compare.

Oda went from Arlong to Crocodile to Doflamingo to Kaido throughout the span of many years. He knows how to "one-up himself", so any doubts of Oda making a villain more threatening than Kaido will likely be addressed soon enough.

Crocodile to Doflamingo was quite the jump though. That said, we will definitely get a villain stronger than Kaidou. Blackbeard, Imu, Shanks (if he goes that route), Rocks (if he's still alive) and maybe even Garland (given we know so little about him) are all pretty good candidates.

I wonder if Oda sees Kuma's sacrifice as the equivalent of Ace getting killed off or Whitebeard getting killed off. If so, then he might not bring Kuma back, seeing as how he hasn't brought Ace or Whitebeard back to life.

I think it depends on what Oda's plan is for Kuma's devil fruit tbh. I was sure Kuma was going to die so everyone could escape because they had really emphasised the fact that he was basically already dead and his memories are now gone. But ever since Kuma failed to defeat Saturn before passing out, and Vegapunk talking about the Bucaneer power allowing Kuma to move when he shouldn't, I am starting to think Oda is priming us for a happy ending for Kuma and Bonney. One where Kuma escapes with them and is repaired by one of the Punks, and then the Bucaneer power somehow allows him to regain his conciousness back.

Before I do my reread of the arc, i'm skimming through it and see 2 connections for Doll. Not only was Saul her superior officer, her naval base housed Mocha and the other Giant kids. That's 2 SH connections.

I remember talking about anti-gravity and VP phasing through Robonosuke.

If I'm to guess, the Iron Giant will move once we understand what's its origin or purpose, and how he joining the fight fulfills that. As such, I think it will be while Vegapunk's message is playing and he explains something related to the robot. Thus it would happen after the 10-minute delay, and near the very end of the arc.

To add to that, I say Luffy will depower one more time. And when he returns, it's with the Iron Giant under his command.

the giants and sanji are there as well, I know Oda likes to monopoLuffying his way out of utilizing the support casting, but I feel he'll give them all moments to shine in the final curve of the arc

The long path is a bit more complicated. In this case, the villains turn the tide and stop the heroes from escaping. Lucci rescues York and the Seraphim, but they become more forces to be dealt with not in trhe future, but within Egghead itself. In the long path scenario, we have big final battles, and Saturn meets his defeat. This is a major blow to the WG, who loses a lot of firepower and is left more vulnerable than ever. In that the case, the next 10 or so chapters deal with the villains regaining the upper hand.

Seems like Oda took the long path, except bringing four more elders rather than freeing the Seraphim.

I wrote that after chapter 1106, and we are still in the "next 10 or so chapters". I think we will still have a few surprising twists ahead.

My original expectation (when Germa cover story ended) was to get Yamato's journey through Wano, finding trouble, helping people, gathering remnants of the Beasts Pirates. Maybe get updates on Drake, the Numbers, Ulti, Page One, Holdem and others.

That first image makes me think we will get something like that, but since Momonosuke was likely the one to move Onigashima, maybe it's a Yamato & Momonosuke cover story.

I think it's possible to have a big cover story like the Strawhat Grandfleet.
Yamato and Momo are the obvious choice, but I would like to see the siblings (Pay Pay and Ulti) and Tobi Roppo again.
But Momo and Yamato are the obvious choice. Momo is supposed to become the greatest samurai, that's what I got from the narrator message when he became Shogun.
If Yamato is supposed to join the crew at some point in the future, his character should get some depth besides the Oden stick. Also rebuilding Wano and destroying all the factories might be good to see, maybe some battles with some of the former beast pirates and the discovery of Big Mom and Kaido.

@The-Light-of-Shandora Back then, I imagined Yamato gathering allies and dealing with enemies while traveling Wano. Like, frightened villagers point out a monster nearby in one cover, then the next Yamato finds it's Fuga and helps him help the villagers. Later Yamato runs into Holdem terrorizing the countryside and beats him up. Then Yamato runs into Drake, or Ulti and Page One, or someone else. Some of those become allies, others are defeated and imprisoned, and so on. Yamato may or may not form his own crew that way.

I’m def interested because I think Yamato has more likelihood of growing past her Oden impersonation now that she has time for self-discovery and isn’t in the middle of a big battle.

When I see Yamato as like a 13 year old teenager who hasn’t really matured, it makes sense to me. Her going from demanding Luffy take her to being willing stay behind showed a sign of maturity already, so I look forward to seeing what other ideas Oda has in store for that.

Actually, Elbaf’s Loki might very well turn out to be a sort of friendly, but still malevolent figure. In that he’s ultimately on the good guy’s side, but that nobody wants to be friend with him.

I guess Hancock is like that too. She’s on Luffy’s side, but I don’t think the rest of the Straw Hats would want to be friends with her. lol

Speaking of Loki. During the Oden flashback, I had a OP dream. I hope I have dreams all the time about OP, but I can't do it on command. Anyway, I had a dream that Loki sent his royal guards to establish Wano under their protection. That would lead to Elbaf arc following Wano. At the time, I thought arcs like Elbaf and VP related arcs were a bit away. So, that dream was weird.

@Shiebs I think a color spread after it is more likely. If I'm not mistaken, there were no colorspreads in the first chapter of a volume, and 1112 seems like Vol 110's opener. (Someone correct me if wrong)

@Deicide I have a question for you. Do you think the arc would have been better if it was Kong who came to Egghead instead of Saturn? And then when Vegapunk's message started, all of the Gorosei teleport in?

@Johnny-B-Decent The thing is that Saturn has personal history with Kuma/Bonney and that wouldn't be the same with Kong. Kuma punching Kong to save Bonney would be far less impactful.

I just wish Saturn could have been written as more cunning, like being able to foresee some developments and have countermeasures in place.

What are the chances Elbaf is the next island?

We should have a poll to see what people think! Are we finally heading to Elbaf like all signs seem to be pointing or will Oda do his classic curve ball and send the Straw Hats somewhere else

If he does that the series won't end before 2040, so I'd say Elbaf is the next arc the crew lands on.
But maybe the interlude to the arc is different and we get to see other characters for a few chapters, like a few focus chapters on the Grandfleet, Revolutionaries, Teach, Marines, Vivi, Morgans and Wapol, following a switch to Law and Bepo, maybe even something from the Big Mom pirates and the last chapter of the bunch could show Kidd showing up at Elbaf to wreck havoc and the Strawhats arriving to a destroyed shoreline of Elbaf.

@Shiebs I'm torn on that. Everything points to Elbaf being the next arc, but Oda implied in his message that Luffy would go some place that him (Oda) didn't want to go, and I doubt Elbaf fits that description.

This opens some possibilities like Elbaf being an intermediate place like Jaya or Zou, preluding a major arc somewhere else, or something could happen in the way to Elbaf, causing an unwanted detour.
