That Oden-wannabe may realize sooner or later how much she should obligate herself to answer up to a dead boiled guy she never even met like Oden and realize what she really wants out of life. Oda could have also used Marco, Shanks, or 100 other different ways to make up for Momo’s admiral failure, but instead chose to focus in on the one person who was begging Luffy to get her out of there. That just tells me Yamato is being put there for her own good and benefit, not just Wano’s, so I think we shouldn’t feel so sad over that. So long as she doesn’t give up on finishing what Oden started, she’ll have good as reason as any to sail with Luffy to Laugh Tale once she’s ready.
Going back to Vegapunk, he’s coming along with his six satellites, so I think it would be at least fun to see what the dynamic would be in the interactions between them and the Straw Hats, in addition to Vegapunk. Unless of course Bonney also comes along and overshadows all that. lol
The Kuma as Ship Defender seems less likely now that we’ve seen Zoro can handle that position fine himself, plus we’ve never needed it for over a thousand chapters

If defending the ship was never an issue before, then I think it has definitely become an issue now, not just with how Kaku tried wrecking it, but how the Sunny is now known all over the world now that it has been featured on Franky's wanted poster. Zoro is also swordsman and not ship guard, and while two can intertwine, it's not quite the same thing. It would prob be best to have a dedicated ship guard if anything, like having a dedicated helmsman. Maybe rearguard.
Tragic backstory incoming
Ay, seems like Bonney is going to get a good understanding everything her dad has been through quite soon. She’ll prob use this knowledge as a lead in to go to Dragon, further giving her good reason to sail on Luffy’s ship.
I'm not really feeling Bonney as a potential crewmate.
Let's see how the flashback goes, if it's a standard one, deeply exploring the character, or a shorter one.
(At this point, it could even lead her to become an enemy, if the unveiled truth is too traumatic.)
So if Stussy is Vegapunk’s ally, will she be sailing for awhile on the Sunny too?

I'd be on board with it. There was a suggestion made to me that Kuma would just come and blast everyone away to where they want to go, but I think that wouldn't be as satisfying somehow.

Maybe even Bonney, if Vegapunk somehow makes her able to eat 2 fruits (in the case that everyone can do that, not just Blackbeard and his weird body)

Whether Kuma lives or dies, at this point, I have this suspicion her story may gravitate towards Dragon’s in some form. She could just decide to be a pirate captain again, but if whatever Kuma went through was enough to motivate him to start a revolutionary group with Dragon, then I’d just have to suspect Bonney may be inspired in some way as well.
Rather interesting point @StrawHatJedi had according to maps he brought up in that Wano might mark the 75% point. We’re currently at Volume 105, so if it is indeed the 75% mark, then we could be seeing 35 more volumes, making it 140 volumes in total.
Assuming this turns out to be true, how many volumes of leeway are you willing to give for Luffy’s 10th person? As in what the minimum number of volumes you’d be interested to see the person as part of the crew have and still have the membership be meaningful? I suppose a 2 year minimum would be good, so maybe 10 volumes at minimum.

I have no reason whatsoever to doubt we are getting the 11th Straw Hat.
Maybe it could happen around chapter 1100 (maybe 1111? Lol), just because of the symbolism.
My candidate hasn't changed, and I feel she's appearing very soon.

What would you say is a good measure?
@electricmastro I'd say plot and character beats left to cover vs the story's level of investment in those things is the best place to start looking. What do we need to do and find, what islands have to be onscreen? But also what lingering threads can be wrapped up during the final battles without needing their own standalone arc? How long does Oda take to do a "short" arc these days? Hopefully Egghead's ending will give us an idea of lengths and how many mysteries he's willing to resolve at once, but we won't know until we get there. The end is still far enough away we can't see how it's going to be structured yet.
Oda's statements are also a factor. We know he's not 100% accurate, but he's been consistent enough that he wouldn't have been saying five years so much lately if he still had 35 volumes (likely close to a decade's worth of content on his current break schedule) still to go.
I think if Oda keeps his remaining pre-finale arcs brisk, like a year or two at most each, and the last Lode Poneglyph overlaps with somewhere else we probably need to stop to conclude some character arcs like Elbaf, he could get it there in under 130 volumes. But even that's going to be go go go. Personally I don't think there's room to satisfyingly develop a whole other crew member and also hit every plot beat the way they need to be done, but that's just me.

If Oda was having Bonney as a member, I could see potential in her despite where we're at right now. If she ends up feeling really emotional and down after discovering what happened to Kuma, then I could imagine at least Luffy going to her and uplifting her spirits similar to when he answered Nami's pleas for help. It's moments like that which I think help bring other people closer to Luffy and thus feel closer to the crew as a whole.

I was more so getting at the idea of development. I think all it really takes for a crewmate to really feel close to Luffy is when the crewmate is feeling down or in low spirits, and Luffy then does something that lifts their spirits up. He was there for Zoro when he lost to Mihawk and was there for Nami when she got betrayed by Arlong, so just as an example, if Oda is able to give time to things like Luffy being there for Bonney after she's in low spirits from learning about what happened to her dad, then I think that could speak to how there's always time for people to grow closer to Luffy, and that it's simply just a matter of Oda giving the time to write and draw all that.

Bonding with the larger crew, fitting into that dynamic and having worthwhile interactions with everyone else is what I would want to see from a full-fledged new crewmate, and that's a much harder time crunch.

Seeing as all the stuff Oda wants to deal with before the series is over, I imagine we would have at least 35 more volumes worth of stuff to go through. Might take 10 years for all I know, so we'll have to see.
With so many big shots making their moves, I feel it's just a matter of time (a few chapters, probably) for Hancock to take action.
And, well, she has no other group to ally for but the Straw Hats.
I feel she's already coming to Egghead. Last time we saw her, she was contemplating leaving Amazon Lily because her presence there would endanger the Kuja.
While it goes into a gag of her wanting to marry Luffy, I don't think she has any way to know where Luffy is.
So, why and how would she come to Egghead?
It's simple. In that same chapter, we and the Kuja are introduced to the Seraphim. They are the ones most responsible for the damage done to Amazon Lily.
At the end, Hancock was hearing how one of the Seraphim looked just like her. We see her lost in thought about the matter.
So, destroying the Seraphim would be a way to keep Amazon Lily safe even after Hancock leaves.
But she has an even stronger reason to seek the Seraphim and their creators: S-Snake is, for all intents, a slave version of Hancock. She would not allow such travesty unpunished.
As such, she's not coming for Luffy. She has no idea Luffy is there at all. She's coming for Vegapunk.
But, how is she arriving? Would she bring the Kuja to the New World? It's possible, but I think the story is setting up another way. I believe that Hancock will be by herself when we next see her.
The key for her arrival may be with Sentomaru!
We saw, both pre- and post-timeskip, that Sentomaru and his Pacifistas were frequently stationed in Sabaody Archipelago. However, he was also Dr Vegapunk's bodyguard.
That implies that there may be a fast way to move between Sabaody and Egghead. Maybe an underwater vacuum rocket system?
So, back to Hancock, who was her with last time we saw her?
That's right: Rayleigh and Shakky, two of the most crafty residents of Sabaody. If anyone could point Hancock how to quickly reach Dr Vegapunk to seek answers about the Seraphim, it would be them!
So, don't be surprised if at some point in Egghead we get a mysterious unexpected arrival.
If that happens, my bet is clear: Hancock has arrived.
I feel that scene with Sentomaru releasing the Mark III Pacifistas is a prelude to that. At some point, he will get word of their transport system being used to bring people from Sabaody. He will assume this is an early marine force.
It will be Hancock instead, and we will get a scene that calls back to a certain moment in Marineford, it's just this time Sentomaru asks why she's here since she's now an outlaw, and Hancock furiosly inquires "where's Vegapunk?".
If you are doubtful of Hancock's arrival in this arc, I first will point out how every major player is moving into position for the endgame. She, like Kid, Shanks, Law, Blackbeard, Crocodile, Mihawk and others will have to make a move, and finding the Straw Hats is the most likely outcome.
Second, we are dealing with the Seraphim now, and the Straw Hats have history with Kuma, Jinbe and Mihawk, making the confrontation with those Seraphim somewhat personal for them.
No one questions the potential of Zoro vs S-Hawk, or that fighting S-Bear "bears" the weight of fighting Kuma, or that Jinbe shouldn't confront S-Shark.
That same connection is lost with S-Snake. She's an unknown entity for most of the crew save Luffy, and Luffy will likely be busy with the main villain.
So, I feel a Hancock herself will confront S-Snake, just like Jinbe is likely to confront S-Shark.
There's also the thing about S-Snake's powers. There's no one but Hancock to explain them and show how to counter them. I believe her powers have lots of secrets, and we will need Hancock to fully counter S-Snake.
What happens with Hancock after Egghead is something else, but I feel more strongly than ever that her placement in the T100 Colorspread was not just random happenstance.

As Captain M pointed out in the Vol. 105 thread, the layout for the Straw Hats has changed, suspiciously allowing one more to be included.
And considering that I think the 11th is joining (thought maybe not officially) this arc, and that it may happen around chapter 1100 (or 1111), this is pretty convenient...
Wano predictions: There will be 5 acts; All Straw Hats will get fights, some in Act 4; Big Mom Pirates will arrive; Carrot will have her moment, but won't join; Yamato will be a Kouzuki samurai and Wano's Guardian; Shanks will visit Luffy in Act 5; Next arc is Mary Geoise.

Yeah, which would make Ushimaru Zoro's grand-uncle, and brought Yamato closer to Zoro in a way I suppose. Though I'm not sure if Pinzoro was from Wano too. It's possible he wasn't, since I recall "Roronoa" is the Japanese pronounciation for a French pirate Zoro is based on.
Caribou, Stussy, Bonney, VPs, it's a lot to mull over. Still waiting on the Carrot confirmation. A cover story would suffice.

@Deicide I dunno, I think I have to agree with Captain M about not reading too much into the volume's layout. Given that Luffy is being grouped with the other Emperors, the spread for the Straw Hats was inevitably going to have a gap as a result of having an odd number of characters to work with. Especially since the layout editor would have to factor in leaving room for the character blurbs.

Actually, the fact that Oda bothered to answer about Zoro’s lineage, Tama’s lineage, and the Smiles, but didn’t bother to speak on any letters regarding Carrot’s position as leader could speak volumes as to how much he cares about that plot point.
Unless of course nobody bothered to send letters to Oda about Carrot, because nobody cared enough to.
@last-exit-to-laughtale I see it as them needing an excuse to free space. There's many ways of organizing the characters, they found one that leave the Straw Hats with the possibility for one more, and since we have always expected an 11th crewmate, it's very convenient.
@Deicide Perhaps, but it's also important to remember that page layouts aren't crafted with just the individual page in mind, but the overall book. Making sure that double page spreads remain double page spreads when printed in a new format often necessitates adding additional pages elsewhere, for example. Front-loading the beginning of a book with extra pages by spreading out character blurbs a little can be an easy and cost-effective tactic to make sure the actual manga's pages are formatted the way they were intended to be viewed.
@last-exit-to-laughtale Things can have multiple purposes. Yes, the layout was made in such a way to benefit the contents of the book. Of course there's more important stuff to think about than leaving a space for the fabled 11th Straw Hat. However, if they manage to fulfill all that important stuff while figuring out how to leave that free space, then it's even better.
Am I reading too much into this? Probably. But this thread is about speculation and looking for signs even there's none, so... I think it's convenient to point it out. Let's speculate!
