@theackwardstation:
I'm not saying that because of Carrot. My conviction of Pedro's death is at least three times bigger than my belief of Carrot's recruitment. They're mostly separate things and that's why I never mentioned Carrot at all.
Wow! You really want Pedro to be dead but fair enough. You didn't bring up Carrot. But I wonder, if Pedro comes back, do you still believe Carrot will be a Strawhat crewmate?
@theackwardstation:
And yet none of your examples refute my argument since not a single one of those characters had their deaths hammered by many different chapters reminding us of its fatality.
Btw, on the contrary, most of your examples were completely open to different outcomes even while they were happening, like (a) Mon't Dor pulling some shenanigans to save Moscato,
Moscato lost 40 years of his life! He is lucky to be alive. So yeah shenanigans!
(b) Pekoms was was not framed as dead but only his eyes were supposedly ripped out to stop Sulong,
IRL, Pekoms should be dead. If Pekoms can be "just blinded" by a swing from a scythe to his face, then surviving an explosion isn't out the realm of possibilities.
even Pound was cut by Oven but not necessarily assassinated and then his supposed death was never mentioned again, not even mourned.
Pound being alive makes no sense without an explanation that hopefully is incoming soon. Even if Oven missed the initial killing blow, Oven could follow up with a more precise slice. Oven was pretty angry. I don't see why he wouldn't finish the job unless hmm… maybe Pound fell into the sea on the initial non-fatal cut.
I was always open to these characters being alive, not because I wanted to, but because it's typical of Oda to do fake deaths. The same with Pedro soon after it happened. However, it started to feel different with Pedro when Oda couldn't stop repeating that he was dead and making a big deal out if it.
You're totally entitled to believe that Pedro is alive. It's not impossible. But I think it would be wise to recognize that this is not a normal case like many others.
Pell was the original sin. Nobody ever since could match him because Pell was the first one, the guy who set the precedent. Nonetheless, Pedro would be the next level because of how much Oda milked his death after the fact itself.
I cannot refute that Oda is handling deaths in the New World differently, in particular Pedro's. What I'll imply is that death in One Piece, to named characters NOT in a flashback of AT LEAST some importance, is a rarity. Whitebeard and Ace are the special cases. I believe Oda planned to kill Ace within one year of serialization but I may be misremembering. Plus Oda isn't fond of killing off characters stemming from Rei being his favorite Fist of the North Star. And Pedro is one of my favorites. So spare Pedro, Oda!
