@Gia:
Kinda hope there is a massive, triple join this arc. Both Yamato and Carrot have their merits for sure, but its a matter of how they are portrayed for the rest of the arc and what they end up doing post-Wano. Yamato I see 100%, Carrot I'm still a little hazy on just because her interaction with Luffy has't really been as personal as the rest. Yamato right off the bat has more interaction with Luffy in 3 chapters than Carrot has had in 150 chapters lol. BUT, she is the most recognizable and featured mink so IDK.
I thought you'd have a take on the pairs by Marco, but that doesn't really matter.
The only real knock I see against Carrot is that she lack a specific dream. As far as interactions go:
- Luffy was saved by Carrot
- Luffy has saved Carrot
- Luffy was almost killed by Carrot
- Eat candy and excited to explore Seducing woods
The difference is there was no isolation in the writing. We can go back to Franky and see there was more time spent with Usopp and/or Sanji than with Luffy. The most isolated moment was more towards the end where Franky wanted to fight with Lucci, but Luffy told him to go forward. Any other time before that, the moment wasn't isolated to just Luffy and Franky because crewmates were right there. This is the precedent being used as a knock to Carrot's situation. There are many interactions between the 2, but if you want to say just Carrot + Luffy, then we have to go back to Luffy and Franky.
This point in the arc, where was the isolated moment for Brook and Luffy? If we are to say, there isn't any solo interaction between Carrot and Luffy, we must consider the actual crew's handling before joining as well. If you can remind me of what isolated Brook + Luffy or Franky + Luffy interactions took place this point or before into their joining arcs, then I can agree with you on interactions. If we're speaking on pure interactions, then Carrot has been childish with Luffy in Chocotown, Seducing Woods, and even been saved by Luffy from Kata, almost killed Luffy in a joking matter, and "saved" Luffy from the Guardians.
We can also say that Yamato has had more solo interactions with Luffy this far into the arc than Jinbe in Impel Down or as I stated prior with Brook and Franky. The Impel Down team was always there in that arc and so was the crew for Brook or Franky. The latter 2 spent more time with other crewmates before joining than Luffy.
A lil off topic, but the design convo is a slippery slope and it hilariously came back to bite some that swear it's so important. I haven't seen "Nami face" being said so many times for a character before. It doesn't matter tome because I can still see the possibility, but it's obviously an issue for some.
