Talking about Tama she is totally absent since the raid, I thought she would have secretly hopped on the Sunny. Hard to believe her extremely useful devil fruit won't be used during the battle :ninja:

I think the flashback was the gist of Oden's Journal. We didn't get that many spoilers, so Yamato possibly didn't get that much
Pedro dieing is not the same thing, it doesn't have the same impact on Carrot's character. Compare to Chopper poisoning his own father, or Franky trying to stop the train that was going to execute his mentor, or Brook recording one last song to play for Laboon after he finally joined another pirate crew. Carrot saw a mink died, like many others died in the Zou arc. It's not personal enough. Any mink could join with that "tragedy" as justification.
Usopp was the village fool, he had a crappy childhood with no father and mother because of Yasopp's decision to leave. His whole identitiy and past is connected to the need to go to the sea too. And to Luffy.
Even Jimbei has the Arlong issue, the Fisher Tiger issue, the Marineford War issue, which are all connected to Luffy in some way.
None of the strawhats will be complete and be able to live fulfilling lives if they leave the strawhat crew. They need Luffy. Carrot will be just fine if she never joins. She doesn't need Luffy.
How can you even say that Pedro is "just another Mink" to Carrot? Did you miss the part where he is the one to teach her, her fighting style and Sulong? The part where he tells her in a flashback that one day she will also get "her turn". Also the part where he specifically tells her about the New Dawn before he killed himself.
Of course Luffy is extremely important to every single Strawhat and all of them are connected to him and they have had years to build even stronger connections to him since they joined the crew. The New Dawn, no matter what it is, will surely be connected to Luffy in some way, because Pedro specifically believed that Luffy and his friends are the people that they have been waiting for. So for Carrot to find out more about the New Dawn she needs to travel with Luffy to see it.
You also skipped the part about Zoro. Zoro is the Strawhat that could have easily ended up on a different pirate crew. In fact wasn't he originally planned to be on Buggys Crew?
Also I guess Kuina was also "just another person training at the dojo". I mean probably all of the students of the dojo want to be strong swordsman.
With Jinbei I was specifically talking about the "broken" part of your comment. He absolutely had a hard life with many sacrifices and regrets but I never got the feeling from him that he has somehow hit rock bottom and become "broken". When Fisher Tiger died he became the new captain of the Sun Pirates and looked for his own ways to improve the Human and Fish-Man relationship by becoming a member of the Shichibukai, he also had a good relationship with the human pirate Whitebeard and trusted him with the protection of Fishman Island, later after Whitebeards death he made a deal with Big Mom to continue protecting Fishman Island and now Luffy is protecting it under his name and Jinbei is finally able to do something for himself and that was to join Luffys crew to see him become the pirate king.
After taking a while to sort out my thoughts regarding the elephant in the room: Yamato has a pretty damn strong case, as I see it.
While I can certainly recognize where the people who complain about "Nami-Face" come from, it's never been an issue for me: part of that is, admittedly, a consequence of me being a massive fanboy for Vivi (perhaps the original "Nami-clone"), but I also tend to read a bit slowly (I prefer "meticulously"), so I may simply have more time to subconsciously pick up details that people rushing through the chapter gloss over. Yamato's horns, differently colored and square hair endings, and lower-lid eyelashes are more than enough on their own for me to identify him/her at a glance. I won't turn down a scar or some other kind of mark as a consequence of the upcoming battle if Oda chooses to go that direction, but I don't feel it's necessary.
With that out of the way, Yamato asking/insisting to sail with Luffy right out of the gate is a pretty strong indicator that Yamato is interested in leaving Wano when all is said and done (probably due to being effectively imprisoned on Onigashima for the past 20 years, at least in part), and if s/he is going to be leaving Wano at the end of the arc, I feel the chances are good that it will be with the Strawhats, one way or another. I want to know how Yamato reacts one s/he realizes that Momonosuke is actually Oden's son and the Akazaya Nine are still alive, since it's clear that s/he picked up the proverbial Oden torch in part due to believing that the Kozuki clan and its vassals were utterly wiped out (my guess, given that both Law and Kinemon appeared to be absent during the Akazaya's clash with Kanjuro, is that s/he and Kinemon will meet during the Momo rescue attempt). Depending on how that goes, I expect my opinion on Yamato's chances will solidify.
Hopefully, the knowledge that there are others who share Oden's will and goals might enable Yamato to step more fully into his/her own identity - not necessarily discarding the Oden fanboy/girl-ism, but letting go of the "I want to become Oden" mindset.

Kinda hope there is a massive, triple join this arc. Both Yamato and Carrot have their merits for sure, but its a matter of how they are portrayed for the rest of the arc and what they end up doing post-Wano. Yamato I see 100%, Carrot I'm still a little hazy on just because her interaction with Luffy has't really been as personal as the rest. Yamato right off the bat has more interaction with Luffy in 3 chapters than Carrot has had in 150 chapters lol. BUT, she is the most recognizable and featured mink so IDK.
If you just pair any two characters and label them with a connection, then practically anyone could fit.

Because they ARE effectively the same thing when its what you see over and over and over again, more than any other character. Luffy is the "most recognizable" character in One Piece not because of his "unique design" (he has a pretty generic Shonen look to him), but because of the sheer amount of featured presence he gets as the MAIN character of the story. Is Franky more recognizable? No. Brook? No. Jinbe? No.
What you are confusing is recognizability vs. uniqueness of design. What "sticks out" does not automatically translate as recognizability.
Hence, Carrot IS the most recognizable mink in One Piece.

That's precisely it though, she's a hit on merchandising more than any other mink. Hence why she is more "recognizable" than other minks. Its not a design thing, its not how you feel about it, its about her presence, good or bad.

Any other time before that, the moment wasn't isolated to just Luffy and Franky because crewmates were right there. This is the precedent being used as a knock to Carrot's situation. There are many interactions between the 2, but if you want to say just Carrot + Luffy, then we have to go back to Luffy and Franky.
This point in the arc, where was the isolated moment for Brook and Luffy? If we are to say, there isn't any solo interaction between Carrot and Luffy, we must consider the actual crew's handling before joining as well. If you can remind me of what isolated Brook + Luffy or Franky + Luffy interactions took place this point or before into their joining arcs, then I can agree with you on interactions. If we're speaking on pure interactions, then Carrot has been childish with Luffy in Chocotown, Seducing Woods, and even been saved by Luffy from Kata, almost killed Luffy in a joking matter, and "saved" Luffy from the Guardians.

I think with Yamato, if he joins, I can go back and say that Oda got straight to the point. Also, if he joins, I can also say that Oda wrote it differently by bringing this character into the arc so late. He is an interesting character to question based on his handling.
Digressing a bit, but after getting Oden's flashback, we can say that Kinemon (of course Scabbards), Luffy and Yamato are possibly what Oden counted on to continue his goal. He was resolved and like many others had hope that someone would carry on his will. Momo and Hiyori might be part of that, but so far it hasn't been th focus lately to emphasize their journey. Hiyori will enter later and Momo isn't in the best position currently
Even though Yamato was introduced so late, I still feel there's plenty of arc left to expand on their character, which is going to happen.
Here’s how Naruto should end: Last panel is Naruto standing proudly over Konohagakure. Slowly zoom out to reveal Luffy staring into a snowglobe with a miniature Konoha inside it. Usopp asks him what he’s doing. Luffy replies “Thinkin’ bout ninjas! Ninjas are cool!” and then chucks it off the ship
Even though Yamato was introduced so late, I still feel there's plenty of arc left to expand on their character, which is going to happen.
We still have like 2 acts of this 5 act play to get through, and since the beginning of this act was like 14 chapters of Oden's life, I'm sure there can be room for Yamato's backstory.
We didn't really get Kaidou's flashback, not the way we got Bgi Mom's. We got Wano's, in which he was a bit player until the very end. People even commented at the time it felt like he wasn't really part of the story and it was a waste.
So yeah, there's room and reason to have some actual Kaidou (and son) flashback. Reveal of said son may even be the main factor for Oda not doing it earlier… or its just one of those Oda things where he's going to wait till right before the climax to plop in the all important context granting flashback like he... always does..

Whereas the Strawhats were all fucking around having their little adventures, Carrot was just acting like any other generic Mink. It shouldn't have been hard for Oda to have made up a role for her since everybody kept randomly going to places anyway.
We also have to take the storyline in account. Carrot is nearly 200 chapters old and she has yet to have meaningful interactions with Luffy. So far, it's only Chopper and a bit of Sanji and Brook. Brook himself only needed 40 or so chapters to feel like a Straw Hat. Jinbe was saving and comforting Luffy 50-60 chapters after his debut.
Yamato is weird because they just barged into the story, but I suppose a character like that would only make sense if you knew who Oden was to begin with.
Another massive knock against Carrot is her nearly complete non-presence during the first half of Wano. Whereas the Strawhats were all fucking around having their little adventures, Carrot was just acting like any other generic Mink. It shouldn't have been hard for Oda to have made up a role for her since everybody kept randomly going to places anyway.

Most of them did almost nothing besides figuration. Zoro got a fair share of attention, Sanji got some highlight because of the raid suit, and Luffy obviously got the spotlight, but that's it. We can always expect to see Nami here and there too since she's second only to Luffy in the whole series, but the others got almost nothing despite the set up for their tasks. Not even interesting dialogue or a deeper involvement with the main plot.
Carrot got even less, that's true, but that's not much worse than Brook or Franky. Jimbe was not even around during those first two acts, and we haven't seen any plot justification for his delayed entrance in the arc. Overall, it's pretty clear that the Strawhats were not very important for those acts, so Carrot's exclusion could be easily justified as Oda's management of the storytelling considering the focus was on Wano's characters and Luffy's training. One could say that Yamato is only bein introduced now for the same reason.
If Carrot had kept her irrelevancy to act 3, then it would be really hard to still believe in her chances of joining, but she's tagging along again, so we have legitimate expectation that something is reserved for her.

No character have anything to prove week by week until the day they join. This is not a reality show.
There's a level of relevancy expected for a character to become a Strawhat, but if Carrot skips an act and then she's properly highlighted in the next one, that's just how writing goes. At the end of the saga, she either joins or she doesn't based on Oda's intentions which is expressed by the totality of her contribution since her introduction… and if she joins, we won't be here overthinking "OMG!! but she didn't do anything in act 2 of Wano!! CRAZY!!"

There really is room for a lot of stupid stuff from Yamato. Wouldn't surprise me if he asks Momo what kind of girls he likes - while dancing in the buff like an idiot lord.

Yamato and Luffy might interrupt this ultimatum handed down to the Mimawarigumi and Oniwabanshu. I doubt they take it like how the CC fighters appreciated Usopp saving them from Sugar's toy slavery. They might take Kaido's side b4 Luffy and Yamato get there, but this is just something to consider
If Yamato isn’t joining where do you think his story is gonna go? I mean he obviously wants to go out to Sea, but I don’t think he really has a crew, I guess all you really need is a few people as Ideo showed us, but I don’t think he even has that, I doubt Kaido’s crew would join the one who betrayed there Captain and all the other people are either pirates or Samurai who are loyal to Momoataro and will stay to help Wano

Depends actually how one defines joining. Does it mean to become a Strawhat Pirate or to simply travel together with the crew? I for one think that depending on what we find out about Yamato later down the arc he/she/it might have a reason to travel with the crew but not become a crewmate. Ever since Punk Hazard we had people sailing on board the Sunny starting out with Law, Kinnemon and Momonosuke and having Carrot and Pedro tag along later. This isn't even something exclusive to the timeskip. Back in East Blue we already had Johnny and Yosaku sail with the Strawhats from Baratie to the Conomi Islands or if you want to go that far Coby traveled with Luffy before the latter even met his first crewmate. It might have been a short travel but it was during Luffy's adventure as a pirate so it counts. Not to mention Vivi who traveled that long with the crew she's pretty much considered a Strawhat by many.
So if the story about Yamato requires him/her/it in any way to actually bear witness to Luffy's voyage until he reaches Laugh Tale then Yamato can IMO nicely tag along without having to be a part of the crew. I mean with all the alliances and fleets and everything that has been build up in the New World it will be "empty" if suddenly we move back to just having the crew so I don't know if that's actually even going to happen anymore in the New World. Though I really hope we would get back there at least one time before the end. Would be really nice to just have Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, Franky, Brook, Jinbe and Carrot around at least once.:ninja:
