Any idea why Nintendo refuses to make a Paper Mario game similar to the first two? Even though that seems to be what the majority of fans are asking for?

No reason I can think of.
But I’d rather have a proper sequel to Mario RPG than a traditional Paper Mario game.
Truth be told though the original game(s) are overrated.
-
Does Nintendo have the rights to all the Donkey Kong 64 characters? I’m just wondering why we’ve never seen Lanky Kong, Tiny Kong,or Chunky Kong again?
-
I think Rare owns those guys, and now they’re with Microsoft.
-
@Cinder awwwww so we'll never see them again? :(
-
@Shiebs Tiny was re-designed and appeared in the remake of Diddy Kong Racing, and she and Lanky are both playable in Donkey Kong Barrel Blast.
And iirc all 3 are spirits/trophies/stickers in Smash. Nintendo definitely owns the DK-side of the Rare divorce.
-
@MetaMario oh cool thanks, I didn’t even know that game existed
-
headlights of the direct
-Splat and Xenoblade 3 get dlc
-Pikmin 4 shown off, lots of "person backyard" settings supposed to straight wilderness. maybe lots and lots of time on the pikmin world passed
-Advanced Wars remake gets a release date again
-Bayonetta spin-off shown
-FE Engage DLC
-Etrurian Odessey collection (or you can buy 1 or 2 or 3)
-Gameboy/Color titles coming to Switch online (starting with stuff like Tetris, Wario Land 3, Mario Land 2), can actually switch between color and green filter
-GBA games part of the expansion that gives N64 games. (stuff like Super Circuit, WarioWare)
-Metroid Prime 1 to be released on Switch (iirc digital is available now, physical in a few weeks)
-Mario Kart 8 dlc, new Yoshi course and even makes Birdo playable again -
I forgot how amazing Metroid Prime was. I cleared the remaster in 3 days at 100%.
The only thing that could make this game perfect is if it had a functionality to mark areas on the maps so that you could remember to come back later. I had to use a guide for the last 10 or so missile upgrades (I should have gone old school and written down the rooms in a piece of paper).
I can't wait for MP2.

Dumb question probably but who’s your favorite Paper Mario Partner?
-
Hard pick between Goombella, Koops, Lady Bow & Huey.
-
I'm currently playing Origami king and oh wow, this game is crazy good

Definitely a tough call. Vivian's the obvious answer, but I also really like Bobbery, Bombette, and Lady Bow.

I know, right? I'm still jonesing for a classic Paper Mario style game, but Origami King? Yeah, that'll do.

Those are my top four too lol
I mean I like all of them but those are my favorites

It's my first Paper Mario, and I hear that people were all up in arms over the lack of partner characters but I'm like, Olivia and Bobby (no spoilers! I've only just started the Deep Rising sequence!!!) are crazy endearing. I also understand that the stationary bosses were a point of contention, but they're super fun as well, with a ton of character. I very much find fighting them to be imaginative and novel; in how many other Mario games do you get to grab hold of the bosses minigun with your bare hands and then beat him to death with it???
And while it eschews much of the traditional RPG structure, theres still a ton of Traditional Turn Based Flavor to the battles. Like, I try to neutralize as many enemies as possible during my turn, maybe using consumable skill resources, I can't get them all so I suffer damage, I now have to spend some of my next turn recovering health rather than attacking the enemy, but now I know how much health this enemy roughly has so I know to spend more powerful attacks on them to KO them quicker next time I meet them...that's like, super RPG vibes to me. -
@Daz if you like that you should play Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door, it’s considered the gold standard of the paper Mario games by most
-
Does anyone want a Wii U download code for Citizens of Earth or Darksiders 2?
-
Well the 3DS/2DS eShop is dead got what few games I could get ahold of in the last few weeks.
Been using the Poke Transporter & Bank to move stuff around to Sun.
Been so long I forgot what isn’t compatible, and how to use the Bank
-
I really hope they make a new Donkey Kong game similar to DK 64, A Wario land game and paper Mario game similar to the original two
-
Yeahhhhhh I don’t think we need another DK64 style Donkey Kong game the original was not a terribly exciting game itself.
-
@Time-Control-Magician maybe not exactly like DK 64 but something open world with the DK universe would be nice
Heard a rumor about it here but who knows how reliable it is

Nintendo direct is going on right now. Pokemon DLC, Splatoon stuff, what you'd expect. But then...
SUPER MARIO RPG REMAKE?!?
Yes pls
November 13.
And a visual update of Luigi's Mansion. And a new Princess Peach game.
-
I have no idea how I still remembered that music, but as soon as it started I got shivers that went on for almost the entire trailer. Definitely getting this one.
-
Daisy is finally playable in a 2D Mario game!
-
Super Mario RPG. Very possibly my favorite game of all time.
On the one hand, I'm thrilled that it's acclaimed and remembered enough to even get a remake and now it's being introduced to a new generation of players.
On the other hand, I'm just not sure there's any topping the original for me. A remake is nice, but I love the original's style, blocky graphics and all, and of course there's the fear that some of the charm of the original will be lost.
All the same, I'll definitely be buying and playing the hell out of it come November.

Making Smithy into a more defined villain and hopefully making the purple star piece less anticlimactic to get can only help not hurt.
Granted I don’t think they’ll fix those two problems as this seems to be a spot for spot remake but still.
-
Oh, and Peach is getting a new game. Hopefully this one will be better than the first.
And Super Mario Bros. Wonder looks charming as hell.
-
Mario already did shrooms, now he's on LSD
-
I was hoping for a new 3D Mario game, but I’ll take a remake of Super Mario RPG any day
-

Okay, I'll admit, if they can finally retool that Yoshi mini-game to make it actually playable, I'll be a happy chap.
-
The Super Mario RPG looks the same with new graphics, but that might be just fine for now. I never thought I'd see Mallow in a cutscene, but it's pretty nice.

Honestly I had more problems with the tadpole
music notes than that minigame though it was bullshit too. -
Some monkey's paw or something got curled for that Mario RPG, because holy heck i thought Nintendo wouldn't even think about it anymore. In a world where Paper Mario and M&L got more and more "generic Toad'd out" it's wild to see all the colorful characters of the game appear.
Wonder looks fun! And I'm really interested in the Peach game.
-
I wonder if they'll give Super Mario RPG a new translation or if they'll stick with the Woolsey one.
-
After hearing people lament about the possibility of them redoing the script (not realizing myself that a good portion of the script was altered in the original localization)
Yeahhhh I think they maybe should clean that up regardless of whether or not the Japanese version keeps it’s original dialog.
-
So who ordered the Pokemon game starring Sephiroth?
-
With the new Super Mario RPG remake happening is it possible we’ll finally get Geno in the next version of Super Smash Bros? Or is that a dream we should have entirely given up on at this point?
-
Honestly at this point people should just let it rest unless there’s something concrete. But of course they won’t.
Not to mention Nintendo still has to establish if they’re dropping the Switch 2 or a whole new system before then.
-
I've played plenty far enough into Pikmin 4 to throw together some thoughts by now.
It's definitely Pikmin and still a lot of fun. While I don't dislike Pikmin 3, the focus on switching between 3 always felt awkward to me and wasn't really my top choice compared to keeping it to just 2. I don't really have heavy criticisms, but I will nitpick a little. The dog is fine, but also probably too strong if you go all in on the combat training first. I wouldn't know though, as I actively ignored those for all the collecting assistance training instead. Outside of bomb rocks for when needed, I never really used any of the craftable items. Upgrades for the raw materials was also fine, although I do miss finding upgrades in the field.
Overall, the first 3 areas are pretty well balanced for having just the standard Red//Yellow/Blues. You get a relatively small amount of most other colors from various caves, but not enough to heavily change how things will typically go. That is, except for the ice pikmin. Obviously the ice pikmin are the hot new thing, so they push them on you early and often enough, but I personally found them a little too game-changing for specifically monster killing. Now I know most would argue back that Purple Pikmin in 2 and Rock pikmin in 3 were just as broken, but I'm not really here to argue that. The water freezing gimmick feels awkward early and really falls out of use once you have water pikmin, but there are some caves where it's used well. Freezing enemies felt cheap and constantly breaking monster corpses isn't something I enjoyed. I honestly started stopping my pikmin from breaking frozen enemies so we could kill them after they'd break out.
Comparatively, once I started hitting the new Ice monsters and ice hazards in the ice-themed caves, then Ice Pikmin finally started to feel like they belonged. It made the 4th area a lot more fun and a real "finale" for the first part of the game.
I also don't really approve of adding in multiple Yellow and Blue onions. The Blue onions especially were strangely placed. If you wanted to gate Blues by progress, leaving them for the 3rd area was fine, but why not put the Blue onion down in the sand that opens up after the tide lowers? It definitely would've felt the most thematic to see the onion the first time the tide changes, giving you the huge motivation to rush for it.
Overall, those are just nitpicks anyway. As stated, the 4th area feels like a proper culmination of all 3 Main pikmin, plus the ice pikmin. The 1v1 battles aren't the greatest implication, but there also aren't a lot of them, so they aren't really a big deal. They're fine for the story purpose they serve. There are more timed challenge battles, but those are generally decently fun imo.
Finally the night gimmick is...interesting. I noticed dialogue suggesting setting up traps with items and stuff, but I never really found time to use them. I was usually just rushing around to build up as many glow pikmin as possible. The charge attack with the glow pikmin was pretty much standard use in all the ones I've done. There might be an argument to be made that there's too many of these night battles, but I'll see as I play the rest of it out. I definitely am at the point where I'd rather try the tower defense mode with other pikmin types than stick with the Glow Pikmin every single time.

How long do you guys think we'll have to wait to get another 3D Mario game
Or another 3D Donkey Kong Game
Hell how long has it been since we've gotten a Wario Land Game?
-
I think they've saved whatever 3D Mario ideas for the Switch's successor, those sell units. Although SIX years since Odyssey is painful....
-
@MetaMario I hope they go fully open world with the next one

Wouldn’t be the first time look at the gap between 64 & Sunshine.

I appreciate you thinking of me. But I owned that game on Genesis and it was AWFUL. It was stupid hard and I played it a lot to get to the end (back then you played the games you had) but after I beat it once I never touched it aghain.
And somehow the remaster actually looks worse? Lke its actually drawn now but...they didn't put any texture into it so it just looks... bad?
-
Yeah Ducktales Remastered this is not.

For anyone that missed the direct
