Ging is really fixated on this "taking the money" business. It probably has to do with his Nen abilitites. Gon being normal is… sad.
Hiatus x Hiatus III: Goodnight, Sweet Princes
-
-
To give credit where credit is due, this chapter did address my longstanding complaint about Gon's desire to reunite with Ging. He doesn't see him as a "father" as much as a fascinating super-strong relative, which is pretty much all I could ask for.
So anyway, the prince is a super-powered royal Patrick Bateman. Lovely.
Probably the most extreme thing ever shown in HxH.
Killing and eating children is still, byfar, the worst for me.
-
As usual, I only 'read' the raws and then wait for Viz's version on Monday. And from what I've seen, it looks like another interesting chapter. In fact, I find myself looking forward to these chapters; more than I would've guessed a month ago. I won't shake off this uneasy feeling until we're at least 25+ chapters in though (with the quality staying at this level).
I smell some hypocrisy here: Let me guess, you wait until some jerk from the narutoforums is posting illegaly the official chapter release. It is about time someone tells this narutoforum-guy that he endagers the whole project "english shonen jump"

I buy the volumes but can't read it weekly due to nobody giving a shit about the European HxH readers. One way or another, Viz are getting their money.
-
This was another great chapter. We Finally got to see Aunt Mito again and and Gon in a larger role and why the prince was so disturbing, it was amazing.
I'm still waiting for a battle tbh but we'll get there. Great stuff.

While I am inclined to agree with the bold I also can't help but sympathize with Europe's plight. Believe me when I say that Enz is a good dude and wouldn't freeload if he didn't absolutely have to. I can vouch that he supports the series and authors he loves financially whenever he is able too. I've personally forwarded him volumes that he purchased off Amazon. If there was a legal channel he could go through I'm sure he would in a heartbeat.
Back on topic: That prince is a real sick bastard. Can't wait for Kurapica to get his hands on him. Happy Gon is getting a bit more panel time, though I'm surprised Ging is so easily accessible to him now. xD
-
The artwork is so consistently good and differs so much from Togashi's usual style it makes me wonder how much of the artwork he's actually doing. I mean there are most definitely assistants involved. Oda has said he draws anything that moves himself but I get the impression Togashi may just be doing his usual chicken scratch and letting assistants do the redrawing which would be fine by me….just keep going please...
-
Bravo Madhouse….Bravo.
-
Killing and eating children is still, byfar, the worst for me.
You always bring this up like Togashi didn't use that scene to move the plot foward in an important way (the more intellegent human ants being born from it) or bring them back to life later on.

Not freeloading is the primaray issue but making publicly available official chapter releases. For god's sake just share such stuff in private. What do think will Stephen (official One Piece translator) think if someone would post the official english version of One Piece here on the forum? Would you jusitify it with the same explanation? Scanlations of licensed series are one thing and might have a justification for reasons like non-accessibility in europe or other parts of the world but publicly sharing official content goes to far and is not exusable. I am not a do-gooder, i just want to enjoy the weekly viz releases for a long time

Didn't have to kill two kids to accomplish that.
By the way, am I reading it right that people genuinely sad about Meruem's death?

Yes it was handled well. He slowly changed into a better person and in the end when he was dying he just wanted to spend the rest of his time with the woman he loved.
FANS of the series thought it was well done. But you have said yourself you hate the series so anything it handles well that has the slightest chance of being looked at subjectively will get a negative response from you. Its not your fault either we've all been there.
Also you do realize the children were fictional right? And that they came back to life?
-
Kurapika vs The Prince is gonna be pretty sweet. Dem crazy red eyes.
-

It has a certain tragic element to it, but after the shit he did, I could never feel sad for him.

Thanks for your support, but its not like I watch the anime anyway.
Also you do realize the children were fictional right?
And you just told me about how people were genuinely moved by Meruem's death.
And that they came back to life?
Still a terrible thing to go through. And Colt, as far as I can tell, isn't 100% Kurt.
Also, that kid Meruem killed didn't come back. I wonder how many people cried for her.
-
Still thrown off by Togashi finally using assistants, it just looks SO damn good now. (and there's really no question of it by this point.) And taking a reasonable break? Gosh, its like he's being responsible and is actually going to tell the story now.
I hate to get my hopes up given his track record, but both of those things are positive signs of a longer, less grueling run for him.
It has a certain tragic element to it, but after the shit he did, I could never feel sad for him.
He evolved and changed from a primal instinct driven beast to someone with compassion and empathy in a very, VERY short ammount of time, who even started setting positive goals. (several of them did) He went from seeing humans as cattle and food, to intelligent beings that were worth protecting and caring for. An astonishing ammount of character growth. He was interesting and had a ton of positive potential ahead of him.
Maybe its because the arc took 7 years to tell but its hard to hold the starting horrors commited by primal King against what civil King became by the end. And there was legitimate love with Komugi going on. It's entirely believable he could have been a very positive force going forward had he not… been killed. Same for several of the ants.

I know he was changing, but I didn't really get that he changed to that extent. Maybe I'd get that on a second reading, but unfortunately I have no desire to reread it.

You guys were with him so long you developed Stockholm Syndrome[/jk]

I genuinely felt sad during that scene. Really liked how he changed with time, naught wrong with it.
The scene was wonderful and it was handled very well.
-
I didn't know what to feel about his death. On the one hand yeah i shouldn't feel too bad for him. On the other hand that scene gave me a tear.
-
By the way, am I reading it right that people genuinely sad about Meruem's death?
-
And you just told me about how people were genuinely moved by Meruem's death.

Apples and Oranges. Muruem had slowly developed into a force of good and died in the arms of his lover. The two kids getting eaten was creepy but nothing about them really hit me to the point of crying, we watched Meruem grow as a person slowly becoming nicer we saw those two kids once and they were gone slightly after. I know how it feels to gain an emotional attachment to a character after a scene but not here.
And again knowing they come back lessens the impact for me so there's that too.
Meruerm's development made him one of my favorite characters especially when he became basically a god and again the FANS liked it so from the outside looking in it may seen odd to you but it worked for us.
-
Also, that kid Meruem killed didn't come back. I wonder how many people cried for her.
What Meruem did upon his birth was definitely fucked up from our perspective. But from his? What he did was no different from taking an ax to a cow or pig in the shed and dragging its carcass home for a home-cooked meal. If that makes him evil from our perspective then fine, but how many tears are shed for every animal we kill and eat or for every bug that is killed for the lolz or without notice? The world is naturally a fucked up place to begin with and what the majority of Chimera Ants (with the exception of a few fruit cake lunatics) did was out of pure instinct and loyalty to the queen as well as for the desire to reproduce and satisfy their hunger.
The difference between what happened with that unfortunate girl and Mureum's death is that the king gained what he didn't have before - compassion for humans - that changed his perspective entirely to that of ours where he sees people as people and not as food. Even if you don't forgive him for what he's done, he at least deserves respect for how he's come to view the world and for showing respect for people in his final moments. He couldn't bring back the girl he ate because he can't undo the past, but he redeems himself by sparing the lives of the hunters as well as Welfin, people he could have obliterated easily if he wanted to. He even went as far as to say humanity won and was willing to humble himself and forfeit his title as king for a simple human emotion that many of us feel. I think that's why the final moments resonate with so many of us and why we do feel sadness for Mureum despite the things he did in the past. If this was real life and we knew the people who were killed and were not biased toward Mureum for what we as viewers see both externally and internally of his character, it's hard to say how we'd all feel. But from the material we were presented many of us came to like the king despite his sins.
-
I see Meruem as Kevin Spacey in American beauty, as he started to really change at the last moment (when he completely regained his memory) it was too late and he actually died.
One must atleast feel bad about that since everyone becomes redeemable once they realize their mistakes, Meruem certainly didn't voice his regrets clearly but the feeling was there.
Yes, but the commercials were just as bad. Right after the final scene, there was a loud beer commercial.
Well you can't blame the commercials on this one can you ? that's what commercials are here for.
-
I know he was changing, but I didn't really get that he changed to that extent. Maybe I'd get that on a second reading, but unfortunately I have no desire to reread it.
I think it was pretty obvious when he went from, as you mentioned, killing that girl to suddenly praising humans/having respect for them/loving them/sparing them. The signs were really there all along if you paid enough attention to his dialogue that showed his slow change throughout the course of the arc.
-

Well, screw you
Maybe I don't remember everything correctly, or maybe it was the shitty fansubs, but even though I know Meruem changed to a fair degree I'm not sure that he really redeemed himself, at least by my standards.
In any event, the kid deaths just get under my skin like nothing else. Those scenes disgust and offend me and the worst part is how easily they could have been omitted.
-
Don't get so pissy because I remembered stuff you didn't. I can't help that I have a good memory for things I like.
I'm not saying it's bad that the kid deaths disgusted you because, frankly, they should for anybody. I'm just looking at it from a different perspective.
-
I'm not saying it's bad that the kid deaths disgusted you because, frankly, they should for anybody.
Trust me, nobody is disgusted to the extent that I am. And maybe that's petty, but it's what I feel.
-
Nobodyman, avoid Genocyber like plague.
Just a heads up.
-
Nobodyman, avoid Genocyber like plague.
Just a heads up.
I've seen that scene already
I think its cute in how grotesque it tries to be, but yeah, no desire to watch it.
Thing is, child death itself doesn't necessarily bother me. Like, in Berserk it doesn't really bug me. Yes, it's still horrible, but I can see why it was included. In Hunter x Hunter it just feels so gratuitous, unwarranted, and mean-spirited to me and I just hate it from a narrative and humane standpoint.
-

Just a question, have you read Mirai Nikki?

@Monkey:
Just a question, have you read Mirai Nikki?
No and I don't plan to. And please, no more references/suggestions of other anime that have horrible child murder. It's not going to change my mind.
-
If it comes off like I'm being all "SEE THAT THING OUT THERE HAS THE THING YOU DON'T LIKE ABOUT HUNTER IN WORSE CAPACITY. NOW UPON KNOWING THIS YOU SHOULD SOMEHOW LIKE HUNTER MORE BECAUSE AT LEAST IT ISN'T THAT BAD" …
...I'm not.
It's just like how, for example, when someone has serious warranted issues with how women are being in a random manga title, part of me wants to warn the person to stay clear from most Kazuo Koike works.

I understand. Thank you for your concern.
Sorry if I came off as aggressive, but admittedly, I am venting a bit.
BTW Holy, if you're watching, have I ruined this thread yet?

Anyone else surprised they only released one new game for the new anime and that it was late 2012? It only went up to the Heaven's Arena arc and featured two York New characters.
Are they afraid a new HxH fighting game would really do that bad when Jojo got a new one and its relatively more obscure than HxH and it ended up being successful? I know Jojo also had the classic arcade fighting game but still.
Speaking of which why IS Jojo getting such a large push out of nowhere in the US? Dub of the new anime, physical game releases, and they're even republishing the manga from the beginning here. Did the new anime do that good?
And even still isn't HXH's anime doing better? Where's our dub?
I know those are two different topics but I'm just curious.
-
Give it time. JoJo's always been difficult to localize and the push for it has been relatively fine if not for the insane amount of references it makes on a regular basis to copyrighted material. With an OVA and several games localized as well as Part 3, it's always been trying to get into the market so westerners are relatively more aware of it than HxH
Compare with HxH recently being big enough to be a joint international announcement in both American and Japanese WSJ coming back. The foothold with HxH just isn't as strong as JoJo, whose presence is felt not only with officially published material but jokes about things such as posing, rock music, stands, fashion choice, a very unique art style, and things that don't make any sense.
-
Maybe the special announcement in two weeks is going to be a new HunterxHunter game. Dammit now you've got my hopes up.
And Hunterxhunter hasn't got a dub yet because companies like Funimation are very busy dubbing the latest season of Highschool DxD and releasing it in blu-ray immedietly!!! They have to consider their priorities first. :getlost:
-
Did the new anime do that good?
The astounding jump in animation quality between 2012 series and Stardust Crusaders should have been a hint.

So Ging has billions to throw around yet couldn't bother to at least provide for his son financially.
What a dickwad of a parent.
-
@Purple:
…
I mean I don't have a problem with it I love Jojo especially parts 2 and 3 I just noticed its sudden push for popularity and wanted to bring it up. But the more fans of that amazing series the better.
I just hope the weekly shonen jump publishings help HxH with getting more stuff like games and a dub like you said it potentially could though.
-
I've heard that someone actually has the right to 2011 series but has yet to do anything.

Also, bingo, kouch_lee, bingo.
Hit the bullseye with his prediction about the prince being a sick shit.

Well yeah, he was sort of Roy Batty like in the end.
A wierd non-human thing that was grappling with his confusion over life. And finally was heading to some sort of enlightened humane state as death approached. -
@Monkey:
This looks the same as any of the completed volumes and chapters do.
The backgrounds are in much higher quality and consistency than they were before, (appearing in almost every panel, not just establishing shots) and the inking style even changes between some of them, particularly in the brushwork of effects like water and grass, hatching to create woodgrain, and use of screentones and screentone patterns which Togashi has typically not done.
Either Togashi got SUPER motivated during his last break,or he's finally gotten some assistance in filling out the backgrounds.
The character stuff is about the same as its always been, but definitely cleaner inking than it has been in a while.Whatever the truth may be, its the strongest work Togashi's done in the actual periodical in at least a decade, and certainly well beyond what he let pass in the previous volume where he didn't touch the art up at all and left it in scribbles.
-
@Monkey:
A wierd non-human thing that was grappling with his confusion over life.
Aren't we all doing that?
He said rhetorically.
-
The special announcement will be a new dragon quest game. Togashi and jump used their power to convince square to be the first to unveil the project. Because of that togashi had to put out high quality work for a couple weeks with the promise from jump that after that he immediately can go back on hiatus and be the quality tester of the new dq game.
-
Wait, so… do they just like using the word "Hiatus" with Togashi, because no chapter in issue 32 and a chapter in issue 33 is just a "break" isn't it?
-
Oh wait two week break? God damnit I thought only one.:ninja: After over two years, having to draw so much was something togashis mind and body couldn't handle I guess. xD
-
we are waiting over two years :D its okay to have a break. we will wait then. :D
now we know that gon's nen will be back yipe

Just a question, have you read Mirai Nikki?
That little brat deserved his fate.

Everyone prepare for Togashi special mini hiatus

I need some plot guidance here. Here's my understanding of the two major situations going on now:
1. Beyond is planning on going to the DC with the Zodiacs, either because he thinks they'll end up being forced to work with his own group due to the harsh conditions, or because he figures they'll make for good fodder. Meanwhile, the Zodiacs are planning to use Beyond as a guide for their own expedition while isolating him from his group, in hope of finding miraculous natural treasures in the DC.
2. Pariston and the specialists were all hoping to dupe Beyond so that the former could "take control from behind the scenes." This is why Ging put such emphasis on being "No. 2," as the person who occupies that role is the one pulling the strings, while Beyond is left believing he's still in control. Now that the group is following Ging, and not Pariston, the latter is understandably pissed at being out-manipulated for the first time. The other, unseen group members making up the 25-man team could either be the Zodiacs, who only Beyond knew would be involved, or are simply characters who have yet to be introduced, which would make more sense as the woman with the quad-buns already supposedly knows them.
Right? Wrong? What am I missing here?
-

1 week, this chapter officially released on 30th June (viz media translation as well). So break on 7th July and 14th July coming back….
Also lol Gon become Togashi now? XD
