@CCC:
I guess I give less of a shit how Endeavor acts going forward (including whether he dies or not), and more about how the other characters and society react to the (hopefully inevitable) reveal of his abusive past. The guy is irredeemable, but I sure hope the MHA world isn't.
It's there that the Bakugo comparison breaks down, imo, since other characters are always like "wow this kid has issues and he needs to control that rage and learn some manners if he wants to be a hero" (going as far as failing him on the license exam!) but - at least for now - they just shrug at Endeavor and say "oh, that big mean scamp. you know how he is," because he's already famous, powerful, and he's got the stats. Do we really think they'd strip him of his license if Shoto and Mama Roki held a press conference and laid everything bare? Or would the media shrug, say "well that sounds pretty darn bad but c'mon he's such a great hero" and give him a pass? I'm honestly not sure.
Kind of reminds me of the Mineta thing, in that it'd be super weird for these organizations that espouse high-minded ideals and are super into PR to keep endorsing the scummiest of people, once they know the truth.
I like it because that's how irl works, but it would be nice if the story actually explored it. It already did it's groundwork with how media affects society and how it can be used to undermine the people's trust in law and the general order of society, this would simply be an extension of that. How many shitty famous people have gotten away with just a slap on the wrist? Right now, they also kinda need every strong hero they have.
Anyway, Hawks rubs me the wrong way because he doesn't seem genuine. It feels like he says the right things, but because he has to not because he actually cares. One of my candidates for the traitor. It's good characterization and interesting writing because he's "good", but not in the way Deku and All Might are. It's his job to be a good guy, so he does exactly that. It's a different way of running things.
Edit:
I'm not entirely sure about this week's episode. It has the advantage of being great source material, but I'm not sure about the execution. I guess the real highlight is next week, but other highlights of the series have been done much better. It's good, but could've been better. Bakugo's rescue is the highlight, but everything else felt pretty flat and stiff in terms of animation and direction in particular.
