I don't mean to sound like an Oda apologist, but why is there so much bitching about the woods. Its a standard Luffy time waster that's meant to set up the rest of plot, not unlike Luffy being knocked off the Maxim in Skypeia or squashed between two buildings in Water 7, and quite frankly, at least its been interesting compared to those pathetic excuses for plot devices. Save the criticism for after the arc concludes, and make said criticism constructive, if you want to complain (If you don't understand what I'm saying, take a look at the mod Daz's post regarding Dressrosa for an example).

We just seen some lame punching.
Yes, your lame attempts at critiquing the series.

All the woods bitching is retarded as hell so don't feel bad about calling it what it is.
-
I also like that for once the Straw Hats are actually being overwhelmed by large forces of cronies instead of the usual manga 100,000 vs. 10 stuff
-
@Bartholemew:
Yeah, Big Mom so obviously is the weakest Yonko. We didn't even see her fight at all, but as we all know soul manipulation is such a weak and useless power. Besides, she's a woman and the only thing she can do is giving babies.
Don't forget since BM can subtract someone life span, It's high possibilities for her to sum hers. And that is of course OP abilities.
-
Wait, someone actually said "she's a woman and the only thing she can do is giving babies"?
I really hope there's a group called Feminists for Grammatical Correctness and he wanders in and says that. Never to be seen again :ninja: -
@Monkey:
Wow, you're even really bad at discussing the one thing you're interested in.
That's exactly what people say when they can't argue with pure facts.
-
That's exactly what people say when they can't argue with pure facts.
You're arguing a complete unknown you fucking dimwit.
-
Based on his history and reputation.
Thanks to being overconfident when facing a hax devil fruit power. And only after fighting (and being injured by) Sanji, Smoker, and Law.
We didn't see him get one-shotted. We only saw one attack before the scene cut away. And Smoker was already injured from previous fights anyhow.
We don't actually know anything about what happened in that fight, but based on how Bartolomeo's powers work, we have a pretty good indication that it was mostly about Maynard injuring himself, and not about Bartolomeo "oneshotting" him.
Oh no, a Vice Admiral was one-shotted by the #2 member of the Revolutionaries, who was able to hang with people like Jesus Burgess before he got the mera mera no mi? How weak of him! Wait, no, that doesn't indicate weakness in the slightest.
Yeah, I am. Plus, you might not have noticed, but the WG has, like, a couple dozen Vice Admirals, many of whom have likely been Vice Admirals longer than Maynard or Smoker.
Woo, more baseless assumptions!
Because you don't have a good response. Yes, I know.
It's shown throughout their entire portrayals. If it was that easy to make them work together, they wouldn't be Yonko.
Not really. And that's despite having just about every concievable advantage, including: a hostage, fortifications, home ground, overwhelming numerical superiority, a weakened foe, secret weapons…
We didn't see everything that happened at Marineford, but: Mihawk fought Vista, Doflamingo went after Oars Jr., and Garp attacked Marco.
It's just your assumption that they were just sitting on their asses the whole time.
Really? None of them could stand up to an admiral for more than a couple seconds, so I'd think you'd call them worthless and weak like you suggested the Vice Admirals are.
- It was stated by AUTHOR. If he said he was the strongest then he meant exactly what he said.
- I don't care if it was hax devil fruit or not. He was one-shotted. Strong people like Doflamingo didn't give a damn to his hax devil fruit. But Marines don't have such monsters except admirals. That's why they are weak compared to yonko's fleet.
- Smoker was beaten pretty easily by Law. Doflamingo is a lot stronger. There's no doubt that he was one-shotted. Maybe two-shotted. Doesn't change anything.
- Bartolomeo is just a rockie. Vice-admirals are supposed to be marine's elite fighters. But in fact they are not.
- That's why I'm saying they are weak. Because Yonko has 2 or 3 fighters like Sabo. Look at WB's crew. If 2 yonko join forces - they will win just because Marine doesn't have powerful fighters except 4 admirals.
- Name me one vice-admiral who is comparable with Yonko's top commanders. Name it. THERE IS NO ONE, except Garp.
- Put aside admirals. Who can beat single Jack ? No one. Kaido has two more monsters like Jack.
- No, because I don't need to comment idiotic things like "Bartolomeo>Jack".
- I think they litteraly can join forces if Marine starts attacking them one by one.
- That is why they wins it easily.
- So you saw Mihawk, Garp, Doflamingo going all out ? No. Only Akainu did his best, others were just toying. And it was enough to destroy the strongest yonko.
- Ofc they are weak compared to admirals or yonko. But they are stronger than any worthless vice-admirals. Jinbe and Crocodile are shichibukai, Ivankov is Dragon's top commander. Vice-admirals are trash compared to them, cause they can't even win rockies like Bartolomeo.
@Monkey:
You're arguing a complete unknown you fucking dimwit.
Is this your best shot ? I'm dissapointed. Only thing you can do is being rude.
-
I have been around for enough time to know if Monkey King says you are bad, then you are and he doesn't need facts to explain it.
-
I think I wrote a whole essay a few days back about why BM is OP as hell but deleted it when I saw who I'd potentially be discussing with, some people are just too dimwitted.
But I do love me some power level discussions every now and then, it's one of the big signs that there's a break next week following a chapter lol
-
People say that Big Mom is physically weak, even though she clearly isn't.
I don't know why, but people here tend to forget that Big Mom was wrecking Whole Cake island during one of her cravings, it was getting wrecked so much that one of her sons felt that he had to step in to stop her.
I know that she wasn't hyped as a physical powerhouse like Kaidou, however, Doflamingo only showcased his string abilities yet he tanked several attacks from Law, Luffy and Gear Fourth Luffy.
We also shouldn't assume that Big Mom is less powerful just because we can't think of other uses of her devil fruit ability. Finally, categorizing power levels isn't really helpful, Shichibukais vary from Crocodile and Moria to Mihawk and Weevil who has the potential to be as strong as Whitebeard during his prime.
-
Is this your best shot ? I'm dissapointed. Only thing you can do is being rude.
I'm not wading into this discussion because it is balls out retarded, and above all else insanely boring. If Arlong Park discussion topics were a restauraunt, among all the diverse dishes discussion about fucking power levels and combat is none of them, its the dumpster in the back.
Populated by half empty headed cavemen who whine about every new chapter that isn't battledome crap, infecting multiple threads (oh great yeah man, the theory thread is now about fighting too, hell yes that's the stuff), and being a bunch of point missing mind numbing garbage the entire time. Especially over shit none of you clowns even know to begin with.I don't want you to see how wrong you are, I want you to shut up about this horrible stupid topic in the first place.
-
I think luffy will need his fleet's aid to come out in one piece from big mom territory, unless there is a rebellion in mom's territory(would be a joy to see the fleet riding the ocean waves with the sunny leading, as lesser pirates tremble, the authorities sweat… big mom by all accounts have been crushed and the strawhat fleet is heading towards the location where scouts are keeping an eye on kaido... the reactions on world leader faces... Germa and the vinsmokes was part of the collateral).
But regardless of how insanely powerful big mom is, i feel sorry for her... she's antagonising the worst person possible in the Op verse... things look bad for the stawhat... but it will be interesting to see how things get flipped and the ones with their backs against the wall reversed.....
-
I don't think the fleet would come so early…maybe against Kaidou, they still have to do outrageous stuff themselves first like it said they will...give them some time.
I hope we get to see Big Mom's sex scene. Maybe Luffy will impregnate her:ninja:
-
I have undeniable proof about how weak Big Mom is. All she can do is stay in the background and let her kids do all the work.
.And she's completely Jinbe's bitch.
Besides, we finally get the solution to the door problem…

VIZ/Mangastream Comparisons again! There were a lot of differences this time….
- Even just the cover of this week's Shonen Jump is a bit different. There aren't nearly as many chibi characters on the VIZ version of the cover, and the other guy who was on Luffy's right looking down at the table isn't even there.
- VIZ chapter name is "Kingdom of Soul".
- Luffy doesn't say, "This means you guys didn't just multiply for fun!" and likewise Nami doesn't say anything about Luffy "reaching new heights of idiocy." The dialogue in that panel is: Luffy says, "Well, you guys were the ones who multiplied!" and Nami responds with, "We can't multiply! Well, we did, but–"
- When Brulée tells them that Big Mom knows of her presence, instead of the part about "The only reason I'm here is because Mama ordered it," she states "We're all after you now on Mama's orders!", so she's not just talking about herself.
- In the VIZ version, Brulée refers to Chopper's Monster Point as a "trick": "…you can do this trick, too?!" and calls Big Mom a "collector of freaks".
- In the following to panels, the "Come out, come out, wherever you are~ little girl!" in MS seemed to imply that Nami escaped from the living creatures in the woods by hiding from them, but in VIZ it says, "Wait up, you! Come back, little girl!" implying instead that she outran them, which better fits with what she says throughout the rest of the chapter.
- Rather than Nami saying she stumbled around in the dark (which could imply that the woods themselves were dark), she says she ran around until it got dark. So I'm guessing it's nighttime now again?
- Instead of Luffy telling the Guy in the Ground, "We don't have time for that!" he says "This is important, man!"
- Guy in the Ground doesn't say that Nami's "not so much" (referring to her being strong); instead, after saying that Luffy looks tough, he asks Nami, "But are you?"
- Luffy noting in VIZ about the trees/flowers/etc, instead of the bubble where he "beat the living crap out of them and they stopped harassing me", he says, "I knocked a bunch of them out, and then they calmed down!"
- Guy-in-Ground doesn't say anything about the souls "settling" into things at any point in VIZ; he just says, "That means all sorts of things take on a life of their own!" and then says about the trees and such, "That's how these guys started walking and talking like that. They're called 'homies,'" and that "animals can be personified too."
- Nami doesn't ask why Guy-in-Ground "buried himself here", but instead asks why he's "stuck here."

Thank you for clearing up this things. Could you tell what VIZ-Version says about the part where Lolas Dad talks about him being expelled and how it was connected with getting two girls?

Sure. He says, "Long ago…very long ago…I was the husband of the pirate Charlotte Linlin, better known as Big Mom. We had two daughters, and then she, like, abandoned me. It's not that nobody's after me...it's that, like, they don't even pay attention to me!" Then Cracker comes and pulls him out of the ground.

2. I need to play this game. It looks really fun.

Stephen's lurking! Hey Stephen would you be able to tell if "homies" is derived from homunculus? Humanoid creatures?
-
There is absolutely nothing to suggest Shanks being the strongest: in 795, the narrator (Oda ffs) stated that Kaidou is the world's strongest creature and it would be best to bet for Kaidou victory in a one on one fight. This is not to say he couldn't lose to Shanks, or Big Mom, or even Sugar (bullshit power) for that matter, but the narrator made it pretty clear Kaidou will end up on top most of the time. The thing is, Shanks has no bullshit powers that would secure him a victory against Kaidou, and would have to brute force a victory. I'm sure Shanks is strong, but, as far as we know, Kaidou, like Shanks, is a brute fighter. If the Word of God declares Kaidou the strongest one-on-one fighter, in a fight that centers around his brute fighting style, he would likely win.
Maybe Shanks with two arms would be definitively stronger (in other words, beat Kaidou the majority of the time), but that's a hypothetical. In the story that's being followed, Kaidou has been defined as the World's Strongest, and I don't think you should allow what I presume to be your Shanks fanboyism to blind you from that fact.
In regards to Blackbeard, I think I agree with you. He is an unknown number, and must be getting stronger, so pegging him down is not a great idea. Currently, he could be the strongest of the emperors or even the weakest. But meh, only time will tell.
Nothing fanboyism, it's plot progression. Luffy clearly is meant to beat Kaido before Shanks, so it would be anticlimactic if Shanks was weaker. Remember, his target is Kaido, hes only going to big Mom to help Sanji. Also, strongest creature but Shanks is a man, not a creature. Remember that Whitebeard was the strongest man and Kaido the strongest creature…so it's already been shown that such technicalities can exist.
-
- It was stated by AUTHOR. If he said he was the strongest then he meant exactly what he said.
That was a title he was known by, not necessarily a literal description that he was, at the moment, a combatant that no one in the world would be able to beat.
- I don't care if it was hax devil fruit or not.
So, you don't understand the series in the slightest, but you want to continue arguing anyhow. Well, I won't keep wasting my time.
-
I don't mean to sound like an Oda apologist, but why is there so much bitching about the woods.
I like the point you made, but I don't like how you arrived there. The woods is fine for now, but I hate seeing those two events as just plot devices. This reductionist way of seeing things can make anything look like crap. I'll address Luffy being squished between two buildings first: it was a mood enhancer that both increased the feeling of helplessness for Luffy and took him out of the picture for a while after a one-sided stomping. I dunno, it's not a big deal per se, but try to imagine the following scenes without Luffy being trapped in the building. It'd be him shouting the same stuff yet without the goofy angle of being squashed, which makes the scene more memorable. It'd also remove him shoving the buildings apart, which is badass and shows his conviction to rescue Robin.
Luffy falling off Maxim with a giant heated golden ball attached to him increases both the "how is he going to get out of this sticky situation?" factor and leads to an awesome Nami-Luffy motorcycle giant beanstalk ride.
-
Brulee did make it pretty clear that the Straw Hats are SUPPOSED to be wasting time in the forest, courtesy of Big Mom and the homies. The entire point is for them to play around with the Straw Hats to demonstrate their power and prevent them from getting to Sanji. So yes, it is a time waster, and that is completely the point.
-
Nothing fanboyism, it's plot progression. Luffy clearly is meant to beat Kaido before Shanks, so it would be anticlimactic if Shanks was weaker. That has no bearing in this story. One Piece is nothing like DBZ where Luffy beats someone and suddenly increases in power level. Luffy was way, way stronger than Don Krieg, Arlong and Kuro yet none of those fights were anti climatic. Enel was stronger than Lucci and Moria, yet the latter two didn't suffer from that. Lucci was stronger than Moriah. Hell i could even argue Crocodile was stronger than both but just not Enel. Luffy was weaker than Lucci and Croc but he still beat them, and he didn't surpass Croc until the TS. Point is none of that progression nonsense works in One Piece because Oda always handicaps someone anyway. Kaido will go down before Akainu, yet Kaido is definitely stronger than Akainu. And you know wwhy that works in OP? Because when Luffy beats Kaido he won't suddenly and magically be stronger than Kaido, just like he was never stronger than Lucci or Croc, and so Luffy will still struggle mightily against Akainu who is weaker than Kaido.
-
Nothing fanboyism, it's plot progression. Luffy clearly is meant to beat Kaido before Shanks, so it would be anticlimactic if Shanks was weaker. I have to second true savior here: One Piece isn't some RPG where the enemies continue to get stronger at later levels; if that were true Wapol and Galdino were more powerful than Arlong, and Enel was weaker than Foxy, Lucci, and Moriah. With those examples in mind, you really can't say that the enemies have really been getting stronger, right?
With that in mind, the reason I accuse you of fanboyism is that, in spite of the author saying one thing in regards to Kaidou's power (that being, its best to bet on him in a one-on-one fight versus anyone) , you continue to hold to the notion that Shank is special and exempt from that statement, for a reason that doesn't even make sense in the context of the story.
-
I also agree with True Savior and hosemisnuba. One of my favorite things about One Piece (in regards to fighting) is that the opponents aren't always stronger than the last. Rather, the circumstances get tougher (usually).
Also when Oda designated Kaidou as strongest creature, I don't think he did that so he could turn around later and say "Shanks is the strongest man, though!" Men ARE creatures. He only did that bullshit to let us know that Kaidou is at least as strong as Whitebeard.

Stephen's lurking! Hey Stephen would you be able to tell if "homies" is derived from homunculus? Humanoid creatures?
I'm no stephen, but the root word "homo"/"homin" from the word homunculus in Latin translates to "man". Add in the fact that almost every living thing in Totland is a product of BM's Soul-Soul Fruit, and you got a name that was most likely done on purpose by Oda.

Exactly that. She was commenting on how Chopper could transform from his tiny form to Monster Point. I don't believe there could be another meaning to that statement
-

Looks like Chopper gets a decent rival this arc to me.
So, a male or femal zoan that has devised a different method to produce similar results to Chopper, maybe.
Maybe it's Pekoms, though.
-
Exactly that. She was commenting on how Chopper could transform from his tiny form to Monster Point. I don't believe there could be another meaning to that statement
its about the "too". it sounds like there are more people/creatures who can do that like him
-
Or it could have been a "that too" kinda "too".
Like, "You have pretty good legs. Wow, you can jump pretty high too!"
The person isn't saying they themselves can jump high, they were just using "too" in the other context.
-
I wonder what the witch meant with "you can do this trick too?" to Chopper's Monster Point
It's possible that she recognized it as some sort of zoan-awekening and it was a comment on how strong Chopper actually is.
But what I understood was that she was just impressed by it's ability to transform. "So you're a reindeer humanoid/minkish and you can also transform? That's amazing"
-
I think the SH fleet is going to get bigger this arc…Luffy is for sure to make friends with the Tea Party guests that will be coming to the wedding. It'll be similar to the Dressrosa fighters. So we will definitely see some major New World pirates joining the fleet this arc or even just pledging their alliance to the SHs. Exciting stuff!

is there somekind of links with the tea party and the reverie?

-
@O:
is there somekind of links with the tea party and the reverie?
At first thought I would say no. Tea parties seem to come often throughout the year for what ever occasion while the Reverie is one event discussing world affairs every 4 years. I suppose there could be some conflict if Big Mom invites a royal to her party and that same royal was expected to attend the Reverie.
