One Piece is the only thing we don't have this week.
Right now I wonder whether we had a FT chapter these days. If yes, it totally was memorable and totally did not leave completely no impression at me.
It was mostly more premature celebrating.
It is a chapter about nothing…So how do we know it is over?

So much talking, yet so little happened.
Fairy Tail tagged out, Bleach tagged in
What a load of nothing. And the sad part is, this is supposed to be a highly emotional moment; Ichigo denounces Ywhachs claim to him, and Ywhachs hand in Ichigos mothers death is brought up, with Ichigo lusting for vengeance… and its just a big pile of nothing. Ichigo has been on standby so long, Ywhach is so poorly developed, the focus on art- look at Ichigo firing a Getsuga Tenshou in a double spread, SO KEWL - too great that none of this resonates.
Ichigo is confronting the guy who caused his mother to die, and is literally threatening existence as we know it. And the response from the reader is "whatever". Bleach has a good many shortcomings, but this is probably the greatest.
Rukia guessing it was Hitsugaya's "older brother" made me chuckle, I won't lie.
But yeah, this is the big moment of Ichigo rejecting the Almighty's role in his life, both of his parents are mentioned, and….it's just eh. Granted I'm still salty that Kubo resolved Grand Fisher so half-assed and I still strongly dislike Bach's presence of "rewrite the well-done and emotional beginning just to cheaply squeeze him in Ichigo's life somewhere", but still!
Getsuga Tenshou was expected, but I felt there should've been more in these pages. I do think Bach's little transformation is a little unnerving to look at, and for some reason, his big mustache doesn't help.

Wait, is he doing that? We still have no clue what his end goal is. He could just want to sit on his throne for the rest of his life and not really bother anyone. Sure, he has the power to do whatever he wants, but he hasn't done anything or said anything to really make the reader feel like he wants to do something bad. The worse thing he's done is kill Ichigo's mom by taking her powers away.

Gotta agree with you there. Even harder when one of the fanarts was with Grandfisher.
Once again, this shows what happens when you don't properly build up a story. What should be an emotional moment becomes just two character spouting exposition, because readers don't give a damn about Bach or Ichigo at this point.
On a side note, people have been saying this chapter was kinda bare-bones because it's probably the end-volume cliffhanger. That would make volume 73.
Oooh, let's take a look at the volume covers for this saga!

It's like rubbing salt in the wounds X_X
Shouldn't last volume chapter have more content, not less? Either way, another uninteresting third worth of an actual chapter. As for the volume covers, so much blandness and smugness. Though there are some good ones, such as volume 62,65,66, and 68. Also, what are with some of those title names? "Sorry I am Strong" takes the cake in this instance.
All the panels of Ichigo fighting the unidentified black goo were very confusing and lasted too long, a single panel of him looking "badass" while cutting all of it in one swing would have been more effective with less space spent on it.
Also, i know it was a gag and all, but did Rukia really never knew wether Hitsugaya actually had a brother or not, after what, centuries? And her first concern is wheter it's his brother or not in a situation with this giant white thing roaming around while Ichigo is facing the big bad and their world should be at stake. It's really unnecessary to look so deep in this easy punching bag, but these small details reveal more than they should.
So this is supposed to be the beginning of the final final battle?
@Bartholemew:
So this is supposed to be the beginning of the final final battle?
ichigo is going to lose and he might have to do training or get a power up to win lol.

Initially it seemed Bach just wanted to kill the Soul King and that was that, consequences be damned. Then he seemed to just absorb him on a whim, and started talking about reshaping the world in his image. There was also some throwaway line about the Quincies prepping to invade the human world, but ultimately you're right, theres no exact goal set for him now. Which is pretty goddamn absurd for a 200 chapter arc, where the villain has become the God of the Universe.
Upon reflection, Kubo has a terrible track record with providing engaging stakes for his arcs climaxes; Soul Society got by on the rescue on Rukia, which the readers can get behind because we liked her. But then the Aizshenanigans started, with a sudden shift towards twists and mcguffins, very nebulous endgoals, and a "to be continued!" ending. The whole thing coasted on a general feeling of chaos and Shit Fan Hitting, but when it became time to deliver in the arrancar arc, Aizen completely dissolved as a villain. We're told he wants to kill the soul king, which we're told is bad because the soul king is, like, important. But we don't know the soul king, we don't know what exactly the soul king or his function is, we don't even see him, and Aizen never even gets as far as the Royal Realm. Its like setting up a villain who wants to bomb the eiffel tower, and the movie ends before he even gets his plane tickets to Paris.
I guess you can say that Aizens intended sacrifice of Karakura town was supposed to be the stakes of that arc, but by the time Aizen finally escapes Fake Karakura Town to reach the real one, he de(i)cides to just go for a casual momentum-killing stroll around the neighborhood instead. The arc finishes with a total whimper, where it doesn't feel like Aizen is about to achieve much of anything.
The Fullbring arc is even worse, with the NotAizens plan and goal being barely comprehensible beyond a vague "Get Back At Soul Society!!!!", which is so ridiculously long-term and opimistic that its impossible to take seriously. The defeat of Xcution has the overall feel of rounding up some rambling hoodlums, who were making brash claims that they would totaly wreck the establishment, some day, for sure!!!
And now we have Bach, the most omnipotent villain ever, responsible for the death of the heros mother, and confronting him is about as exciting as pulling gum off your shoe.
Why is this supposedly final fight so uninteresting? I did not feel anything when I was reading the chapter.
I was thinking recently how long it's been since we saw ichigo in a proper fight, but this chapter reminded me how boring his fights usually are. He really does only use Getsuga Tenshou doesn't he?

If Aizen was anything to go off of, the villains of these Mega Arcs keep changing what they want. Aizen originally wanted to kill the Soul King for reasons we were never given, but then Ichigo talked about how Aizen just never felt he fitted in. In this arc we get introduced to Bach who claimed he hated violence. After that he orders a genocide of Soul Society, and kill Yamamoto himself. From the history we know he probably just wanted revenge against the Shinigami, which included the Soul King. Then we find out he's the son of the Soul King and implied he just has daddy issues. There was mention of invading the human world, which he could just send mooks at that point to take over the world with all the strong people being busy. But now he decides it's time to take out Ichigo and do a poor mans imitation of the SA-X from Metroid Fusion. By the end of the arc we'll find out he just wanted to be friends with the Shinigami.
Also, I take offence to your last statement. At least with pulling out gum I can pretend I'm trying to pull out Excaliber or something epic along those lines. Here there's nothing to have to the imagination to make this seem anything but boring.

And thats doubly moronic when you consider that present-day Aizen is exactly as smug, and apparently even stronger than before, depite allegedly just wanting to be a weak, normal dude.

Oh man, I forgot about the whole Blood War angle. Apart from making the villains more complex/compelling, that could've at least been used for a mildly interesting flashback or something. Leave it to Kubo to do none of that.

Don't know what's sadder, the fact that even with Aizen being reintroduced we get no motivation or development from him, or the fact that the little bit he was around was more entertaining than most of the rest of this arc.

Yeah. I remember when the first invasion happened we had those randomly introduced shinigami talking, with one claiming that this is a war where both sides were right and wrong. Then we basically have the Quincy become the equivalent of Nazi's with the naming and symbolism, and despite Yamato and early shinigami being brutes they were presented as the unabashed good guys. Of course, when Mayuri is looked at as kooky and endearing instead of the terrible person he is/was, this was bound to happen. Perfect time to wrap up the idea of Mayuri's cruelty, especially towards the Quincy, but nope, he's just a silly scientist.
Oh boy, I can already see Orihime's whole role on this.
Okay, I think I'm going to have to say this now, especially in light of the "dialogue" from this week's chapter. Ichigo should not have Quincy powers at all. No I am not saying this because kubo shoe-horning him being born Quincy is fucking stupid, which it is. Story-wise ichigo should not have Quincy powers because of when Bach used auswhalen on Masaki. Remember, Bach's soul suck ability allows him to forcibly take back the piece of his soul, i.e. Quincy power, and redistribute it, which can potentially kill it's target. We learn that masaki was targeted by auswalen and was either killed or almost killed. You can bet that ichigo was right next to her when that happened because she was protecting him from the Grand Fisher. So ichigo should have had all the quincyness stripped out of him. Does this make any sense?

I recommand the Neogaf thread for Bleach - they do a lot of ribbing and I've been cracking up all day reading it.

This chapter of Bleach is pretty much that scene of the Venture bros when the Monarch tries to convince Dean he is his father.
"12 strongest characters in the series"? So why are the Spriggan Twelve so underwhelming?

Considering that a bunch of them were taken down by teamwork and/or Deus Ex Machinas, I wouldn't say that's wrong.
Feel free to draw a slice of this pizza, you deserve it… Is what I'd like to say... But it appears as though that would be far from the truth.
In fact, so much fail is overflowing from your body that it has begun to take visible form.
You've grown pathetic.. Or rather.. You've attained your true, original power.
Now, how will you greet me? Will you say hello, and I say goodbye, hello hello. I don't know why you say hello I say goodbye.

They are the strongest mage in another continent. That they aren't steamrolling everyone when on another and people team up against them is not really surprising.

More like this is another chapter where nothing happened except 1 page which was renji/rukia showed up for the fight lol.

Well a better translation would be saying that they're all just strong since they're not the strongest since Acnologia makes them shit their pants since they're not even able to land a hit on him and he one shot kills them like when their dragon slayer got one shot killed and two of the other 12 that were to scared to even attack him and zeref being their leader is stronger than them as well.
Zeref/Acnologia are the strongest since only dragon slayers can even do any damage to acnologia and zeref cannot be killed without special magic as well.

When anyone in Fairy tail other than Aknolodgeia was Overwhelming. I'd settle with "Whelming"
I'm not sure if the lack of hype in Ichigo vs Bach showdown stems from my own lack of care for both characters and their motives, or this long-awaited encounter is just that hollow to begin with. The only thing that can keep me amused is how many variations of "Getsuga Tenshou" Ittybitty can come up with, or the severe lack of it.
take it as you will
It's hard to take it seriously when it's printed next on the page where one of the supposed "12 Strongest" gets socked straight in the face. But hey, it's no longer 12 Strongest anymore, is it? They're now renamed into Sinister Six Monsters to set their league apart from the defeated ones. In the end, his editor was right. It would've been better off starting just with six members that were actually worth their hype and easy to keep track of while assigning the rest six as their second-in-command or something.
We're supposed to imagine the possibilities of who will fight who? Sorry, Mashima, but that will only work if you properly introduce them and actually give us some glimpse of what they can do. I guess it was somewhat decently done with Brandish and Ajeel, but the other ones got fodderized as soon as they appeared. Or wait, Ajeel was fodderized in his initial apperance as well, but was allowed to come back. So I guess it only applies to Brandish.
Especially if this is the final arc - which, however, I'm not completely sure about due to "Maybe this will lead to the final battle" as well as Lucy's quest to find Aquarius -, the build-up of these final antagonists just is so lacking.

I would wager it is both. The encounter was hollow already because of the lack of build-up, development, and focus to make this a cohesive story. Because of that you have no reason to care about the characters or their motivation. As far as Fairy Tail, I wouldn't even count on Mashima to make three characters and develop them into proper characters with personality and motivation, as well as making them look like a threat and having them go down in a respectable manner.
Wonder of a chapter!
Drama from nowhere, Getsuga Tenshou again!, and a new 'fried eggs' design to Yhwach.
Byakuya must think in take Rukia in the family was a mistake after the joke xd
Remember when Squad Zero was a thing?
Remember when Squad Zero was a thing?
Yeah, they started one-shotting all the bad guys, then Kubo remembered that he needed someone for the rest of the cast to fight, so he hit the undo button and sweep them under the nearest rug.
They seriously started to grow on me, Shutara especially. Although Ichibe vs. Bach was one of the Bleach-ist fights, and it still numbs my brain to this day.
….actually, that reminds me. Last night in Barnes n Noble I felt like skimming the Fullbringer arc for lulz, and good god did it all just unravel into utter insanity as it got closer to the end. Ginjou's plan was unnecessarily complicated and barely accomplished anything. The hell was he going to do after he left Ichigo powerless in the rain? Go fight the Gotei or something?

Well to be fair, Ichigo did go challenge the G13 as well. With fewer people than ginjou no less. Though they did have the element of surprise, where as ginjou did not.
Also, much like you I too was in B&N recently. I was going through parts of bleach there, and got to the point where zangetsu was giving ichigo a lesson during the kenpachi fight. And you know what Hollow ichigo said? He said that ichigo never really understood zangetsu and never tried to. If you're interested it's chapter 111.

And they also didn't know what Ichigo would be capable of….plus Aizen's plot got in the way.
But the more I think it over, there was something that could've been compelling about Ginjou.....y'know, bringing back a little uncertainty in the Gotei. But Kubo just completely messed it up when he made Ginjou attack Ishida "to make it more interesting", and then we got Aizen 2.0.
And Tsukishima's eternally smug face with his disgustingly broken power just made it even worse.

Interesting…..but I also remembered someone on Neogaf complaining that if the Hollow was the actual sword, why the hostility and attempt to take Ichigo over?
(because he always made more sense as the rampaging Hollow)

Well that's much like my complaint about the spirit sword used to restore ichigo's shinigami powers in the fb arc. More precisely, what is it? If it's just some object used to jump start his power, why would the G13 sanction it's use over an asauchi? If it was an asauchi, then what was this whole issue of him not being a "true" shinigami?
Gajeel! Do a stupid thing!
http://readms.com/r/fairy_tail/485/3408/1
Well chapter was good in my book because Gajeel was in it. Also, I did like giant Happy and that was pretty funny. But the whole thing with Sting was just unbearable. I'm sad and I'm useless, but chick who was abused hits me and now I'm all better, also Minerva apparently got angry about that as well. Now they will once again not do anything worthy of mention in this arc.
"You just touched death itself"
"So? You just touched my friends"
….
profit.
@The:

Agreed. I really wish that Brandish would have gotten way more screentime. She could have had her own arc where she shrinks down some of FT's members. Serously, just her size-changing magic has enough potential for a very own arc. We could have seen how this shrinking affects everyones abilities and even the most trivial actions become a very big endeavor when small. But hey, instead give us all of these 12 boss characters at the same time without any hype or build-up and just assume we're totally hyped.
