As great a set-up chapter this was, my fav part was the Cover Page. I just love seeing past individuals react to the feats of the Straw Hats.
I think Usopp's hometown is going to be the one I'm most excited for; can't wait to see the former Usopp Pirates rub the villagers noses in the fact that their captain is now a man worth 200 million and they didn't believe it was him even when he was worth 30 million.
Chapter 805: The Mink Tribe
-
-
It could be interesting if minkmen have a way to keep hidden even from observation haki users. It would be a great powerup if Luffy learns it.
Burgess already learnt that [emoji57] [emoji23] get it?
-
Anyone else thought of Pantherlily after seeing Pedro?
-
We only have one example, which isn't enough to establish a golden rule saying that the awakening of paramecia's only apply on things around the user.
If Brook's new abilities aren't a form of awakening, then what is it ?Well, for example luffy didn't awaken his df yet, but unlocked the gears, 2-3-4. Maybe it's something like that for Brook too?
-
You know why Wanda the canine is named Wanda it's because it contains the word "wan" which is the Japanese onomatopeia for a dog's bark.
-
Whitebeard had it on while he was sleeping, there are cases like Otohime, Aisa and Enel. It's very controversial and broad as of now. On/Off and how much further ahead it can foresee, levels(area), strength gauge…etc still better explained than CoC though.
There's no proof Whitebeard used it on Ace.
Also, Otohime and Enel needed to activate CoO (as shown whenever Enel called "Mantra" during his fight with Luffy and also how Otohime was caught off guard). Not to mention that the techniques require calm and concentration, which pretty much makes it impossible for them to be active all the time.

Zoro kind of detected Carrot in the previous chapter. Law and Usopp were also hinted to have detected her too.
Luffy simply didn't bother searching his surroundings. He was busy fighting Rody, so he could only focus on him.
It's not like you use CoO and instantly find everyone who's next to you in a certain radius.

That's just how you believe it works. The truth is that we don't really know exactly until Oda explains it better which will probably never happen.

@uniaka:

Not the same thing.
In the cases of Gear 2nd, 3rd, 4rth, Luffy simply uses his elastic properties ; it's part of the fruit, even though the explanation behind it is quite complex.
Brook's soul abilities have nothing to do with his original fruit, which is to bring back to life someone who died. -
Just noticed this but Bepo and co. say that they've been following the paper for the events, which suggests that they might not have met and caught up with the Swirlyhats before their "demise." Oda wouldn't have missed another chance for someone to act like they're all dead.
-
Wow what a nice chapter, I am feeling that Zou will show some big players to us.
I know is really stupid, but a bunny called Carrot is nice. It sounds like a real pet name.
About the "electro", its not exclusivity of Carrot, it seems that Black Back, Rody and co. Have it too.
So whats up with her "big" right hand? Apparently the others Mink doesnt have any bigger parts.
Theory: Pedro gave his hand to CarrotWell Sanji team obviously is not dead at all. So I can see some options why they look like they are dead
- CC used any of his gas attacks, now they are poisoned, paralyzed or sleeping.
- Brook used some new ability to remove their souls from their bodies
- They got their asses kicked really hard (my favorite)
Just I felt this arc will not be about fighting a big bad guy? Of course this can be the introduction of the next fight, aganist Jack for example.
But when we are talking about one of the oldests cities in OP, what I really expct is:- Poneglyph
- Roger, White Beard, young Kaidou history
- Some news from Marco, Jozu, Vista
-
Well Sanji and co they are for sure not dead but they aren't alive as well. Like whale forest maybe they are turned into trees
or some other plant (not dead but not really alive too). In this case, Nami will not need her clothes so the dog mink just took
them cause they were in her size. -

We know it requires concentration to maintain, as stated by Satori.
That simple fact should prove that CoO is not some sort of spider sense that detects everything at every moment.
-
Nami wasn't wearing these clothes though.
Nami could very well have been wearing these clothes. She's been in Zou for 9 days. We saw her outfit during the 1st of those days. It's completely possible that she changed clothes during the following 8 days.
-
Maybe Luffy couldn't sense the minkmen because to his haki they feel like animals in a forest on top of a huge animal, so he didn't recongnise their presence. Like, if you are busy you may be unable to see people in disguise or camouflage around you.
-

Oda would change her outfit just to go back to her old outfit from the previous arcs?
-
It really seems like a jerk move for Wanda and her crew to not only leave their corpses lying around, but to loot them, as well.
-
-
@.access:

Never happens, Nami tends to wear new clothes every time

I like this idea. The haki users haven't gotten used to the fact that these are animal people vs plain animals. Alternatively, maybe there are haki using predators and learning to mask your own haki "signature" was/is a survival mechanism for minks.
-
I'm greatly enjoying this arc so far. It made me realize how much I missed nature in One Piece. Punk Hazard and Dressrosa were both interesting, but after a years worth of chapters consisting mostly of rubble backgrounds this is such a treat. Regardless of how this arc turns out, I think I'm going to love the island and the lore.
And look, Robin got to do some history stuff, and due to the animal features there will be a lot of variety in the designs, even for the women! Carrot seems to be around 12-16 I'd guess, I feel like it's rare to see younger teens in OP.
And I wonder what happened to the Swirlyhats. Obviously they're not gone, however it might mean their return will take a bit longer. I wonder if it was hard for Oda to decide which Strawhats should leave Dressrosa and which stayed…
-

That make sense to me.

what a beast this Jack is well sanji should not have beaten his crew in the way i think he did, in addition to Jack failing to retrieve Joker, which is one hell of a feat. he survived against 5 very capable beasts with two certainly above his caliber. whether Jack destroyed the place 2 weeks ago, one week ago or a few hours is not too important, consodering Franky words of gun powder and gas. Being very fresh. how long does gun powder or what not stay at average after a battle, any one knows?
i think swirly hats are a little worst off than laws crew and the guardians they might be covered in bandages reminiscent of a butterfly's coccon. what ever Cesear did will determine his future, traitor-foe or ally friend. what happened to Momonosuke, is he beaten to a pulp? was he abducted, did The ninja just sit back and allow momonosule to face danger? one thing is clear, Jack's crew were the one chasing the samurai before they got shipwrecked if that was not the pursuers intention, makes me wonder what Joker would have done with Momonosuke had he caught him…
the swirlyhats may be in bad shape, but the implication i get from the minks when they say even if luffy is their captain, we will show no mercy, couple in what we saw in 795, i think they might have been somewhat victorious and somewhat heros. the question is did they overcome jack,( if he was the one who actually did the fighting) before or after the attack on the convoy fleet? i say this, because what reason would the enemies have to leave them alive for if they were totally defeated and subdued in the fight that has left them like the carcasses they seem to the perception of the minks, or if that's just from their victory, what about the latest enemies that that seem to be on island? as they the swirlies are like fish out of water and out of air, sitting ducks.
question the entrance luffy et al entered is not the only entrance is it? i mean it was chance that the groul picked that leg what if other legs were choosen do they have to walk all around to find it?the guardians seem impressive as well as the minks, manhandled Jean bart with one arm. if the assault is over where are the civilans, are they dead? or abducted?
-
Half the crew is dead huh? Have to admit its not a twist I saw coming.
Oh well, we can replace them with minkmen for crewmates, it's fine. New dog girl Wanda is already better than Nami, Chopper stopped being cute a while ago so replacing him with carrot is fine, and Sanji has been insufferable for years so I'm okay with Law replacing his dynamic with Zoro. Did we know Bepo was a navigator before? Why else would Oda introduce that fact now if not to prepare us for the fact Nami and Chopper are gone forever. I'm really not a huge Law fan, but he is better than Sanji has been.
I assume Carrot must be the cook, which makes Wanda the musician. She has a sword, Brook had a sword, it makes sense.
Truly an interesting way to showcase that the new world legitimately is serious business.
Just make sure to get the sound dial out of Brook's skull and you can fill his promise for him, and overall things are fine. I'm okay with the new crew.
Seriously though. Lots going on, but given that a lot of it is fakeout shocks that will be explained later, I'm actually most curious about the coverstory. It's too soon to do a Dresserossa story (but it delays the long overdue Punk hazard one by another year) but are we really going to do another "around the world reaction" set again to show reactions to Luffy's bounty? After having already done that right after the timeskip? That's normally just something Oda would do in a chapter or two.
Yes we know before dressrosa. He drew the dressrosa map for Law. And No, the Swirlyhats are not dead.

If Eruption stream was coming on Zou that means chapter 795 was Zou. The SHs were there when Jack attacked Zou.

You know, it's really implied the Minks in the Whale Forest are not locals.
Probably the "Shandians" of the arc.
-
I hope that whatever happened to the Swirly it won't be something bad or penalazing in the way that they would be out for a while…because the've already been out for alost the entire arc of DR, I hope they come back in the main cast for this arc...I think it will be the case since I imagine Chopper will play a big role...
-
You know, it's really implied the Minks in the Whale Forest are not locals.
Probably the "Shandians" of the arc.
Or in a different caste.
-

I feel they are locals though. Just that they are "special" (because of their role in guarding the forest).
On the side note, after the guardians leave, Wanda told Luffy that he should be glad that the moon isn't out yet/it's not night yet. Does that mean there is a werewolf mink OR some weird things goes on in the night in the Whale Forest?
-

Maybe the forest Minks become stronger under moonlight.
This is another reason why I think they are different from the "city" Minks.
-
Yeah. The full moon implies werewolves or something more perhaps. It doesn't have to just be wolves….maybe it can affect Minks more or something. Definitely foreshadowing something either way.
-
Kaido or Jack's men, whatever were going after raizou not momonosuke.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I 'm thinking more of a hostage situation, especially with wanda and carrot trying to lead them to the belly forest, which might be where jack is waiting.
The whole last panel looked very conis 2.0 to me.
I dont think the swirlyhats are caught though, they are just somewhere else on the island.
Man, he destroyed an entire civilization and I thought Doffy was bad.
-
Damn Sanji what the hell are you doing..
but yeah we miss sanji serious fight after time skip..
I WANT TO SEE SANJI USE KOKA LIKE ZORO.. -
@Uncanny:
Dunno if someone has said this already, but maybe Sanji etc being dead is because of Brook's power? Soul leaving the body (awakening maybe, though I doubt it).
I like that idea. It's possible that they thought they didn't have a chance against Jack and Brook suggested he used his new ability on them. His soul wouldn't need to leave his body because he already looks dead.
-
I wonder if Raizo's possible Devil Fruit has something to do with corpses. Like making non-living clones of people.
-
@Long:
Kaido or Jack's men, whatever were going after raizou not momonosuke.
Sheephead and lizard girl said they were looking for a samurai while Raizou is a ninja. They might be after something else entirely.

It just occurred to me that some of guardians mink could be norturnal animals. We are in an animal kingdom after all. Assuming that the guardians guard the forest 24/7 , somebody has to take the night shift.
The norturnal mink could be better fighters because they can take advantage of the darkness.
Even with Coo, it's not exactly easy to fight in darkness and in enemy's terrority. -
wanda seems like a fairly wise figure she identified the strawhats and even predicted that the one who's in whale forest is luffy
given that i don't think she would mistake brook for a random skeleton or call sanji and co dead when they were are actually sleeping
and carrot also seems to believe that they are dead ! my best guess is they're somehow immobile due to a df ability -
I wonder if Raizo's possible Devil Fruit has something to do with corpses. Like making non-living clones of people.
I'm sure that a ninja could probably pull it off without devil fruit powers.
-
that's because bulls are attracted by the movement, not by the colour since they can't see it
I know that already.
@Elektrik:
Bepo's a polar bear, Penguin, Sachi means Orca?, Law's spirit animal is a spotted seal….. what about Jean Bart though?
Abominable snowman.

Has anyone asked why the guardians are guarding the whale tree in particular? Did we all just assume that it's just a traditionally sacred local site or has anyone postulated on its possible importance?
-

There's little we can say about the Whale Forest besides "it's important" at this point; the whale tree appears artificial (mink-made), and has a central position in the country. As for the guardians, they likely protect the whole country (i.e. their role is not limited to/defined by the Whale Forest); they're just at the Whale Forest now because that's where Luffy ended up.

The Whale Forest seems to be particularly sacred or we would've seen other guardians attack the whole group. Technically they were all trespassing in the country, but the guardians only started doing something about it when Luffy got to that section.

No it just mean that you need to concentrate to analyse its result better. Kinda like a noise which you want to find the origin of. Anyway nowhere is it said that it is something you switch on/off
ps : your link didn’t work for me
-
Great chapter, I'm loving the Minks so far and it was great to see Bepo again. Law's comment about not expecting to see them again was a good moment.
So, was Pedro a lion? That would make sense if he was the one that roared "everyone retreat!".
Could be a Bulldog or a long fanged monkey like the macaca philippinensis or mandrills.
Considering his respect for Wanda, he might as well be Bulldog mink. For me he didn't give a loin's vibe, he could be a hybrid or a df user though. -
But if he [Jack] destroyed everything, how come there aren't any corpses ?
The hostage theory is what I have in mind. He sacked the city and took prisoners. His men have been guarding them and using that as a way to get the mink to do their bidding. A yonko commander and a lot of men should be able to pull this off.
-

Yes, and to add on, the torturing mechanisms Ussop noticed were probably used on citizens to get some info about (maybe) the samurai from them.
-
how would everyone react if Oda pulled a GOT and killed them off?
-
