Yeah I ain't saying Toriko is ending, but just because Toriko is getting good sales doesn't preclude it from ending at the author's discretion
Toriko III: It's Over!!
-
-
18 pages weekly and you say he's tired, unlike Oda who's taking breaks once awhile and draw less than that.
-
I wanted to see some character development for the other chefs since the start of this cooking arc, the Yuda centric chapter gave me some hope that we'll be sticking with this competition for a little while but nope…..let's just skip the whole arc together shall we? Well done Shima.
It's best to keep our expectations low when it comes to this manga.
The last cooking arc we had was interrupted...
Komatsu: " We safely completed the cooking for ANOTHER"...
!
-
Not explaining what the FUCK just happened would be so incredibly moronic and douchy, I doubt it's gonna happen. So, yeah, I expect a flashback to narrate what just went on off-pannel.
It's still disapointing. The chapter where Yuda does his thingie, the mystery behind Fishman Toriko Island and the soul trade…all that being already solved is a huge turn off. Oda does that too, but not with such incredibly important events, I mean, this wasn't Corrida Colosseum's Block D equivalent in terms of plot relevance, right? I think we were supposed to have high expectations about what was about to happen. It being relegated to a flashback is, well, disappointing.
And that power up was pure bullshit.
-
I don't like this at all. I really hope Shima will to show us what happened . This is the first time a Toriko chapter didn't please me.
-
@Myu:
That's just absurd.
So is what's happening in the manga right now. I mean sure, maybe we probably going to get a flashback, but I just don't expect it to be very long.
Shima is writing like he wants to be done with this manga yesterday.
-
EVERYONE, PANIC!
Ok seriously, let´s chill the fuck down. There is no way Shima won´t develop the capture of Another.
I honestly feel like he´s just trying a different way of storytelling.
There are a lot of mangas with a "we must go from x to x" style. While human world was a more "uncompromised" arc, in Gourmet World we have:- A time limit (the eclipse) and
- Various areas.
Maybe Shima just didn´t felt like doing a "step-by-step" story in which they would go from area to area, capture each ingredient, have a party and repeat 8 times. It would be bland and unoriginal.
I still trust him. Toriko is still a very fun manga and I just feel he is trying to do something different, even though it may fail in the end. This being said, I will be pissed off if Area 6 doesn´t get any explanation, and I don´t think doing it in a flashback will be bad.
Also, the cave where times moves faster that was mentioned is probably the cause for the long hairs and giant Yun.
-
This may not be common in manga but American comics these days love showing readers the end or near end then backtracking to show how the characters got there. Gonna assume we're getting a flashback next week. If not…
!
-
This chapter gets a ton more of shit because last time that Shima did this, with Komatsu's rescue, was revealed in this chapter that was underwhelming and stupid. And short and pointless. I mean, show it, but do it from toriko's perspective, and then do it NOW from midora's (or rather starjun's) perspective and reveal the asspulled powerup.
And the worst part is that this doesn't feel like a retcon, it's the natural flow of the plot, that midora was going to mellow out after defeating his brother and learning that there are bigger bads. But Toriko has so many secret powerups (reviving through food thing, food honor, enbu, the pacman, the regular oni, the other oni, and now.. this?)
-
Remember when the Horse King killed Toriko just by breathing on him or when Bambina almost killed everyone just by trying to dance in one second? Shima sure doesn't.
-
But Toriko wasn't aware of himself smelling back then and now he does !
Whoopty doo !!!
-
Isn't this Shima's first manga to make it past a few years? I've always wondered if Oda ever stops and thinks, "bare minimum, I have to take x number of years to fill in all these plots that I've got planned" and just wants to quit.
This is what it feels like with Shima, except he's just going to go ahead and do it.
-
Flashback is coming, flashback is coming, flashback is COMING…
-
Holy Cow!! 5 Pages of comments already after this chapter!! A big WTF indeed!! I mean Shima has dicked around with the timelines before (Ichiryu & Midora fight/the start of the Gourmet World Arc), but this is ridiculous!!
I mean given the lengths he went to with the Regal Mammoth, Century Soup and Meteor Garlic arcs, it is simply a joke to gloss over the captures of Acacia's Full Course Ingredients without any real challenge!! It was the part of the story everyone was looking forward to the most!!
Revealing the outcome of the Another Arc isn't my major gripe though, as this can be fixed with flash backs. Showing Bomber, Condor & Kakino as allies is a nice touch. Who knows what happened to Asarudy and Maymay. All that background for Chako though, the loss of his mother, etc. needs to be resolved for sure. It wouldn't been in Komatsu nature not to have a farewell. But amongst everything, the greatest concern is the sudden back track in order to introduce and justify Toriko's strength boost. I mean we just saw him lose his arm in a battle against Bambina, which suggested Toriko still had a lot of improvement ahead of him and that the 8 Kings provided a significant challenge. But now BOOM, in one chapter we've established:
a) All the 8 Kings recognized his power
b) He doesn't even need a camping monster as he is already a walking "Safe Zone"
c) Midora even recognizes him as equal/greater to his own strength
b) He practically one-shoted the freaking Battle Wolf (ok I exaggerated, but at this point he could and I wouldn't be surprised. It's almost like no further development is required, as in the space of one chapter Shima has told the reader, "don't worry about Acacias Demon NEO being stupidly powerful and one shotting Blue Nitro. Next week i'm going to reveal to you that Toriko is now the strongest being on earth and won't even need the push of his farts!." There is simply no coming back from this….....................The end is nigh!
"Toriko-san! I've already captured ANOTHER" Please Jesus no…
Haha…what am I the 5th person to quote you on this!! Classic
The next chapter is going to start off with everyone sitting around in lawn chairs watching a sunset while saying:
"Gee, that sure was a wacky adventure, huh guys?"
"It was stroke of luck for us to beat NEO and save the world with that crazy thing that suddenly happened."
"Yeah, that sure was a… sticky situation."
::everyone laughs and eats ice cream::
Yeah!! I want to see this!! In fact it would have made a better Anime ending than the bullcrap Toriko Vs Joie fight we got!! Anyone remember this shit:
!
I say it again. Toriko sells more or less as much as Gintama, a series that is spanning over 500 chapters already. And while in the polls is not doing great, there's a bunch others that are doing far worse.
So no, it's not getting the axe, no matter how much you insist.
As long as your sure…....All I know is that Shima was totally honoured when Toei approaching Shueisha about acquiring the rights to make an anime. I think for any mangaka that's a real turning point in your career, and I can't help but feel, when the anime was pulled due to poor reception, this had a negative impact on the manga. The 2nd half has been no where close to the first half :( maybe i'm reading into it too much.

Dropping by today to post this. Maybe it helps.

Have a nice day!

Midora was useful by keeping Joa busy which makes cooking Another easier to our group.
-
It's depressing to see the state that Toriko is in. All things must come to an end, I guess.
-
Hopefully he has used Toriko as a learning lesson, and comes back like Togashi did with HxH.
-
it seems obvious why yun is suddenly got bigger.ANOTHER is fish and penguins main food is fish.so obviously ANOTHER is very compatible with yun.
i dont think this manga is ending soon, shima has use many kind of story telling that known for, such as 1.throwback eg bambino arc,2. same time plot eg ichiryu v midora and jiro v joa.3.rebirth-toriko v heracles cure water.4.quest toriko n zebra cola water.5.comedy well obviously is zonge.
im not sure what shima will do with ANOTHER arc.most possibly i can think of is narrator. komatsu tell the story to toriko?
the best we can do is enjoy and let the hype keep going on.
-
One thing worth mentioning that Jiji isn't with Another's group.
-
@TLC:
Remember when the Horse King killed Toriko just by breathing on him or when Bambina almost killed everyone just by trying to dance in one second? Shima sure doesn't.
The thing is Toriko's this Red Demon Mode wasn't activated because he was about the fight Guiness. For some strange reason he just remembered his ultimate mode back then he tried to save Matsu. It's just a coincidence it seems. Or maybe the amount of information flooding his nose made him remembered this. And maybe Shima's narrative this chapter about natural events occuring without a reason tries to establish it.
The thing is, it seems worse to me than your explanation. Maybe we will have an explanation about this too. But since the problem I have is more to do with Toriko being on this level in the first place without a reason but concentrating hard. Not him remembering it in the right fucking time. I won't seem to be satisfied with it.
-
Toriko is so bland. Bring back team Sun-Bear!
-
Way way way too slow for me. I'm expecting Kami in this next chapter like Toriko said. And throw a few blue nitro/8 king corpses as well.
Toriko is so bland.
Bland as in non-stop big reveals?
-
-
Toriko as in the character named Toriko
At this point it makes sense either way. So it was unclear to me lol

Yes Toriko the character. Although I am kinda losing interest in the series lately. I don't even really bother reading the expositions. I just skim to see what's happening and to see the art. The story isn't bland but so much stuff I wanted to see I suppose is never going to happen. Amd the stuff getting show cased didn't really intrigue me.
-
Nobody mentioned that Ichiryuu is resurrected in the next episode of DragonBall Super!!:
!
-
What the flying FUCK is going on in Toriko right now!? I just binge read the last 10 chapters and I've never seen a manga deteriorate in good will and favor so fast. I'm embarassed I recommended this manga to so many people now. Fucking embarrased!

Here's what I posted shortly after chapter 334 came out… (the one with the backstory of 1 millimeter Yuda)
http://bato.to/read/_/337079/toriko_ch334_by_hi-wa-mata-noboruGotta commend Toriko lately for it's pacing. Never would have expected the story to set up and take it's time like this again. And now it's actually showing a match! Even if I just jinxed it and the story starts accelerating again, I gotta commend it for setting up this arc very well.
And we're finally what I expected from the Cooking Festival! Fun cooking competitions and backstory! Great stuff.
The very next chapter, 335, everything starts kicking in high gear. Should have kept quiet…

Looking back at better times. This was my last comment before I took a break from reading Toriko.

What happened?

Maybe rankings very low when those chapters came out and that was the final straw for Shima? I mean, even when the group split up to each continent to search for their own item after traveling together for the first two arcs, it felt like Shima was going towards the end game. But now it feels like the series will be done next year. Even by Toriko's standards we have sped through a LOT of stuff.
Yeah, this is heartbreaking. I got into the series when I started working so I actually started to collect the Toriko volumes along with One Piece for awhile once they came out in english. I stopped collecting early on, and sold my previously owned volumes last year once I realized it was never going to be what it once was. Then chapters like this happen. Still…

http://bato.to/read/_/339365/toriko_ch335_by_hi-wa-mata-noboruThe pacing has consistently been a problem in the manga because it's so uneven. While the pace has worked well for some arcs thanks to a proper story being fleshed out on top of the environment and world around the characters (and the characters themselves) being explored, at other times Shima just tries to rush to the fight and the story gets muddled in the process. Ain't nothing change on that end and it never will as far as I can tell. I don't expect it to either but I didn't think it'd ever get this bad.
-
! > Insert: Will the old man come back…?!
! …

...
...
! Would you even bring it up otherwise? -
! So, there is our flashback like we said. No cooking contest, but this isn't a cooking manga anyway. All about the battles and eating.
-
This better be the last time we jump the gun. The last time!
! Also, 3 weeks passes, and they spent decades in that world!!!
-
No, cause apparently Shima writes the opposite of what I type. I'm not gonna post again because once I acknowledge it, he'll speed up the story again (which means next week will be back on track to speedsville since I already acknowledged it).
And Nekketsu, if you think that my particular posts were about skipping the Area 6 story specifically and not on the major end gaming set up in the past few chapters at breakneck speeds then I don't know what to say.
-
I like Don Slime casually destroying earth's moon haha Unfortunately I can't say that about the rest, but I'm going to stop myself from making remarks until I see how everything plays out.
p.s. Isn't that Tommyrod's appetite demon on the last panel? I thought he was absorbed by Sunny's satan hair?
-
Re-reading the last couple of pages in this thread, I am amazed at how many of you are literally retarded. Kudos to people who actually think before they post.

Perhaps instead of throwing insults, talk about what you mean. I'm guessing it's about the series could be ending soon by skipping stuff and having seemed to speed up. One of the big problems as Thanatas pointed out is that this Manga is about the fights, not the cooking, and with the people being focused on they are cooks, not fighters. There is still a good chance that this flashback is really short and then we are back to where we started. My big complaint is how all over the place this Manga has been. We went from cooking competition to fights to now flashback. The biggest problem is by having that spread showing all the characters last page, there is no tension on the outcome.
Also, not a fan of the last page and what their plan is. In some ways it seems like it was a failure if we go by the present time period, but they still might be attempting to do it, and if he does come back I might be done with the series.

Now, there's no need to be this harsh. Just enjoy what you like and it will be fine.

Don Slime is insane.
-
Don Slime is super cool! He's a crazy badass!
-
OMG!!
! Ichi-san really is going to make a comeback!! I was hoping that may happen for a long time!! My post of Super Saiyan Satan was spot on!! lol
-
Lol for the Gourmet Cell Demon whose hair are fingers
The almost Tommyrod Demon isn't really Tommyrod's. -
I like Don Slime casually destroying earth's moon
You sure that's not just a random astroid?
-
That's just a random asteroid.
It's reassuring to know the author of one of your favorite series has the script pretty much finished on his desk. Don Slime is an awesome motherfucker, and yes, that definitely is Tommyrod's appetite demon looking for a new host.
3 weeks passed in total. Not so random anymore, that supposed powerup of Toriko that isn't even that in first place, uh?
-
I'd like to see Ichiryuu again. And I hope Don Slime could beat up Neo a little in the meantime.
-
I hope you people aren't mistaken. Don Slime was referring to Acacia's fullcourse.
-

Only an hour passed for Toriko.
