@Demon:
This case just keeps getting dumber and dumber as more information comes out.
Ok, I'm one of those people that believes that if two people both got drunk, and while drunk, both people consented to sex and had sex, that doesn't count as Rape. That's you making a stupid decision while you were drunk, and paying the consequences later.
However.
By all accounts, this girl was unconcious before any sex occured and nobody is trying to claim she consented before passing out or anything.
That's rape. I don't care what he tries to say at that point, that is Rape.
I'm sure the guy is sorry, and I believe them when he says he wouldn't have done it sober, but it doesn't change the fact that he did it and there need to be appropriate consequences.
I agree, there is a difference between drunken sex and rape = consent. And you're right, by all accounts incluing the first reports the victim was already unconscious when Turner assaulted her. Worse thing when reading the friend's letter is that she (the friend of the rapist) refused to acknowledge the victim was already unconscious! It's her statement of the girl being so drunk she was about to pass out.
@desa:
The guy is his childhood friend. I can easily understand that he would go to great lengths to underplay the situation. He is far from an objective observer of the situation.
The decision made by the judge is more problematic. While I believe it was probably a drunken mistake, it is still necessary for rape to be punished appropriately. The victim was still raped while unconscious and such actions should have approriate consequences.
@Green_vs_Red:
^ I winced at the part is where he wonders as to where we should stop being politically correct in where we should call rape,rape.
The gamergate movement and Donald Trump have really made people really stupid when it comes to their
belief that political correctness is an inherently bad thing.
Though instead of whining about people stopping him from using offensive terms or being offensive where and when they want to. This idiot is getting bent out of shape over a rape being called a rape?
She, this friend of Brook Turner who wrote the letter is a girl.
Leslie, I think… need to follow the ling again to clairify that name.
I can't help but wonder if that has a part of why she's in Denial (yes capitol is not a mistake) about her friend being a rapist.

Turns out that image of neat hair and clean suit isn't (really not surprised) the photo of mug-shot but from when was sentenced.
Why is it important that the photo be released? Optics. Turner's name may be permanently marred by the crime, but he's granted a reprieve by only having images of him smiling in dress suits available to the public. Presenting him as a well-dressed college athlete instead of the convicted felon he is could also open the victim's statements up to unfair scrutiny.
