I'm pretty disappointed that Mario still has FLUDD.
E3 2014
-
-
That ending was beautiful.
-
Dev's vs. Treehouse Splatoon, this'll be good.
-
I'm pretty disappointed that Mario still has FLUDD.
I'm pretty disappointed that there has yet to be a sequel to Super Mario Sunshine.
Also, developers vs. the Treehouse guys on Splatoon is about to start.
-
I'm pretty disappointed that there has yet to be a sequel to Super Mario Sunshine.
Well that too. I could go for a sequel with or without FLUDD. But in Smash, take it out :/
-
Forget you, knocking unsuspecting people off the stage with FLUDD is amazing.
-

Foolio doesn't care about sentient water cannons.
Devs win round 1! Close match, though…
-
@Cyan:
Forget you, knocking unsuspecting people off the stage with FLUDD is amazing.
Tornado spin was a lot more amazing. And didn't have to charge.
As for Splatoon, it looks REALLY fun. Still not totally sold on the team-only gameplay though.
-
Devs kicked the Treehouse guys' asses at Splatoon, as expected. Mr. Sakaguchi's boasting at the end was win.
I'm also wondering whether this game will just be multi-player focused, or if it'll gain some sort of story before it releases. Either way, I bet the AP matches will be amazing.
-
This take on Tower Defense is also pretty intriguing.
-
More Xenoblade X up next
-
Xenoblade is still in the intro and I'm already sold.
-
It does look amazing, yeah. Hopefully Nintendo re-releases Xenoblade Chronicles, because even though X isn't a direct sequel, I'd still like to play its predecessor without forking over nearly $100 for a used copy at GameStop.
-
What was the 3ds game that was announced? I haven't been paying attention
-
I'm pretty disappointed that Mario still has FLUDD.
Tweaking the moveset, though unavailable in the Play Anyone mode, allows FLUDD to scald, or high powered jet stream the opponent.
Point is I'm sure Sakurai is making it more useful then the Brawl version.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Compared to the uninspired/disappointing Yoshi's New World, this Woolly one looks fabulous! Can't wait to play.
-

Project STEAM featuring Abraham Lincoln fighting aliens.
-

That's kind of cool if you're going to be using custom moves (though I already said that primarily I won't). But it's still such an un-dynamic move. It sort of just feels wrong to be doing all of this jumping and close-range melee action but suddenly have this ranged attack that requires careful planning and timing/charging to be effective. It cramps my style, man!
-
Bayonetta Mecha looks awesome
-
The reveal was a mech suit that Bayonetta can ride in, which I've dubbed "Bayo-mecha". It has a really slick design and still attacks in the same way that Bayonetta does (using all four limbs). I'll definitely be picking this game up in October.
Next, more Hyrule Warriors coverage.
-
I actually turned off the Bayonetta stream because it was too cool. I felt like I was being spoiled.
-
Don´t know if posted already, but…
Project Robot Trailer:
-
Fils-a-mech for the win! Better luck next time, Bot Trinen…
-
Nice Treehouse Smash gameplay, top two stay.
-
Hell, yeah! Samus comes out on top in match one!
-
Do Sony and Microsoft not have anything worth discussing anymore?
…Seriously, I don't know. I'm a die-hard Nintendo guy so I haven't paid attention. :p

Part of it is the fact that, in terms of exclusives Nintendo is clearly more interesting as well as the fact that they're been doing the Treehouse live stream throughout all of E3 which gives a steady stream of new information to discuss.
Aside from the conferences, we can't really get a close look at Sony or Microsoft unless you look up specific videos on Youtube or watch the IGN stream which demos random games. In terms of the E3 experience, outside viewers are no longer a part of the show, except for Nintendo.
Of course, I am also biased towards Nintendo, so someone else should chime in on the matter.

That Marth finish was hilarious!
-
Yeah it was such an amazing fail
-
Yeah, Nate really blew it on that one, but it worked out so another guy could get his medal. :D
That was a fun exhibition, and now they'll be showing off Devil's Third.
-
Not sure how to feel about this game.
-
I don't know about the single player campaign, but the multi-player for Devil's Third looks fun, especially with all the customization options.
-
Yeah I've never really been a big fan of Team Ninja style gameplay, feels kinda bland. The director did form a different company though so hopefully this is better.
Very surprising that this was made a Wii U exclusive.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
The multiplayer certainly looks more enticing than the single.
-
Agreed on the Multiplayer.
Definitely hope you don't have to do much Single for Multi.
-
And that's a wrap on the Treehouse's coverage of E3. Amazing show for Nintendo, especially since they had extensive coverage of most of the games they announced, and not just trailers, but lengthy gameplay sessions by both developers and Treehouse members. I can't wait to see what Nintendo whips up for 2015…
-
So all in all, this year E3, who won and how many stars it deserves it?
-
Based on the feedback here and the overall presentation in general (including the Smash tournament), I would say Nintendo.
Sony had good momentum but then kinda floundered around with their media stuff. And everyone else was pretty unremarkable/dull.
-
Say what you want about the 3 conferences or digital event in Nintendo's case. You can argue who won, I don't care.
All I know is that since nintendo's digital event all i've been "SEEING" is Nintendo stuff non stop. If i didnt' know any better there was no one else at the event.
The Treehouse thing was the most brilliant idea that Nintendo came up with. They just dominated E3 for coverage to those not at the actual event. Which is 99% of us. Thus to me based on pure coverage Nintendo seems a shoe in for winning. It's like Sony/Microsoft got 1 day and Nintendo got 3.
-
The Treehouse and Digital Event is the future of Nintendo at E3, and I couldn't be happier.
No offense to Sony or Microsoft, but they had no chance this year. Nintendo just dominated so much, it's almost scary…
And though it's not an official reveal or anything, there's this:

–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Samus will be coming back, just a question of when... :)
-
Nintendo knows how to play a crowd and they have so many IPs to invoke that it's easy for them to get a rise out of the crowd. I will say, though, that Zelda U looks pretty gorgeous and I was pleasantly surprised with what I've seen of Splatoon (though I hope it has a little more depth). And of course Smash Bros. was pretty fun to see in action.
Outside of Nintendo, Civilization: Beyond EArth, Grim Fandango remaster and especially No Man's Sky have me excited.
-
I didn't watch much of Nintendo's coverage, but based on the feedback here I guess they won E3. Personally I thought this year was pretty underwhelming, but there were a few things I really enjoyed seeing, such as Civ: Beyond Earth, Mirror's Edge, and Pokemon OR/AS. Though actually, the game I'm walking away from E3 most interested in is The Talos Principle. Gonna be keeping my eye on that one.
-
Overall
Microsoft didn't do anything bad but the problem was they didn't do anything amazing either. Nothing of theirs particularly wowed me or made me want an XBOX in the slightest.
Sony did great. No Man's Sky and Bloodborne being the best IMO. Easily the middle man of the conference.
Now Nintendo. I will admit I have a Nintendo bias but come on. Sure they stuck with doing a lot of sequels/coattails of nostalgia but they did show more than enough interesting IPs (i.e. Splatoon), but what genuinely made Nintendo amazing this year was that they were easily having fun with it. Everyone was having such a good time it was hard not to be smiling as they showed off their games.
EA put me to sleep. No seriously. I fucking turned off my computer and went to sleep.
-
Here are my most anticipated from this year's E3:
Microsoft - A) Sunset Overdrive B) Scalebound C) Master Chief Collection
Sony - A) Uncharted 4 B) Littlebig Planet 3 C) Last of Us Remastered
Nintendo - A) Legend of Zelda B) Smash Bros. C) Xenoblade X
3rd Party/Multiplat - A) Arkham Knight B) Destiny C) The Witcher 3
Indie - A) No Man's Sky B) Entwined C) Assault Android Cactus
Honorable Mentions - A) Codename STEAM B) Splatoon 3) Hyrule Warriors
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
In terms of actually delivering information, Nintendo trounced Sony and Microsoft. At least to those of us who didn't actually attend the event which aforementioned is 99%.
-
I thought this year was a pretty good E3 especially compared to the last few years. Nintendo had the best conference and a lot of games, but Microsoft and Sony didn't have bad conferences either. I came away from this E3 thinking that no matter what 'next gen' console I get they'll be at least couple of fun games that I'd enjoy.
EA and Ubisoft were pretty tame for the most part I mean seriously no Beyond Good and Evil 2? not even a mention! Also at the Sony conference there were pretty much no Japanese developers there and seeing as that's where most of my interest in playstation lies there conference felt kid of lacking. Especially seeing as there are a coule of games coming out this year that I think deserved some attention like Freedom wars.
Also Grim Fandango hype.
-
As a lot of people said already, the Treehouse was an amazing idea.
Nintendo's communication style should be the future of E3 IMO. I hope the other companies get inspired and do the same thing starting next year.
Conference are so boring for someone who isn't there. Plus, the fact they all seem to use fake cheers is just annoying. -
Okay, I didn't have time to watch E3 non-stop, but WTF is this Treehouse thing everyone is talking about?
-
E3 is ussualy made for people to go there and go to booths after a big show where Aisha Tailer or some other 2th tier (or lower) celebrity talks about games that they had no hand in making.
The nintendo direct abandoned that, and went to the show with the booths for the goers, but the infodump was masive and constant, a group of treehouse employes (a branch of nintendo, I think that localization) were both intervewed and interviewing by the media and the developers to showcase all the games, the thing is that these were mostly closed to the eventgoers.
-
Okay, I didn't have time to watch E3 non-stop, but WTF is this Treehouse thing everyone is talking about?
A massive coverage of demos of the games showed.
-

they just move around the Nintendo E3 floor showing off games and such

Microsoft and Sony are both sort of stuck in that developmental gap between generations, and it's not a good place to be. The Wii U was trying to break out of that hell last year still, and really got its feet this year. Lots of great titles that seem to look better and better. But the one I drool over more than any other is Zelda. That game looks fantastic.
The only console I'm lacking is the One, and Scalebound certainly peaked my interest. Not enough, but we'll see what next year brings.
PC only games don't usually make much noise at E3, but damn it if I'm not completely blown away by what I saw from Civilization Beyond Earth.
My PS4 desperately needs more games. So No Man's Sky, Bloodborne, Grim Fandango, Last of Us Remastered, The Crew, Witcher 3 and Batman are all day 1 buys by the looks of it. I'm cautiously optimistic about Uncharted 4, and I still haven't really figured out wtf Destiny really even is. Sorry Sony, but in my heart Dragon Age will always be a PC game.
And props to Nintendo for the Treehouse. I didn't really get a chance to watch it much, but I'm glad to see them pushing the industry in this direction.
-
Kind of interesting you consider Dragon Age a PC game but not TW3.
-
Well, the Witcher games have an interface that should work on consoles. I played the first two on a 360 controller on my PC (actually the first was a long time ago so I'm not totally sure), but the PC version was superior due to both developer preference and lack of power in the consoles. I'm just hopeful that PS4 has caught up to be awesome and I want to see it. It's a game with enough funding that it should get sufficient console support.
Dragon Age games actually played fundamentally differently on the PC, using a keyboard and mouse. And in the first two, even the gameplay itself in the PC version went with a more top down, strategic approach to appeal to a Baldur's Gate audience. While the console versions typically went more closeup, arcade style combat that is more common and more suitable for those controllers. Apparently DA3 will be more flexible, but the series has conditioned fans to associate that playstyle with the system. And I'd still rather play with a keyboard and mouse anyway.
