They probably wouldn't be Yonkou without their crews, I admit that. But calling them useless is exaggerated. You saw with your own eyes what Whitebeard was capable of (and he was alone at that time, mind you). So it's obvious that they're very strong pirates and definitely not useless whatsoever.

The Yonkou are pirate CREWS not just individuals, Shichibukai are first rate pirates or fighters. The Yonkou are useless without their crew.
So damn untrue. For like the 10th time…Grap clearly stated that the Yonkou are the top 4 pirates in the world in terms of strength. They are anything but useless or weak.

If they were weak they wouldn't have strong crews durr. Even if mom was the weakest yonkou which is ridiculous than she's still an easy island splitter. I always thought of it as a yonkou's crew = 1 yonkou. So all of whitebeards crew equal white beard the man. So basically if Marco, Jozu, Vista and the rest fought Shurohige than they would tie. Though when I think about it, it might be a little less than a Yonkou. Makes sense since that's how I see Luffy's crew.

Firstly I don't have anything oriving to me that Buggy isn't the strongest in his crew. Secondly the fakes never so much as set sail with all those pirates and Caribou was going to kill him anyway. Thirdly neither one of those are yonkou. My original thought on the matter weren't that they were equal but rather decent captains are stronger than there crew put together. Some People may not. Exp Luffy has an extremly talented crew so maybe not him and pre gura Kurohige seemed weaker than his crew individually but in gerneal in their prime the captain should be as strong as his crew. Thats what makes them fierce.

Of course not. But Oda excels at making things believable. There are a plethora of ways he could think of to make Luffy win, or tie with Big Mom, that aren't based on DBZ-like fights. But actually we don't even know how this whole mess is going to develop yet. Better wait for some chapters to see what he has in mind.

I feel like we'll have to learn more about Haki as we go. In DBZ the characters had "Power Levels" which were easy to read and compare. The thing is, in the case with most anime, even those numbers could be skewed depending on the level of emotion the character showed. Gohan is a perfect example, he was a kid with a low power level until he saw his dad killed, then his power shot up exponentially.
The same could be true with Haki, but then you can add in Devil fruit powers which change the game. At some point with the slew of technology being introduced to the series. I wouldn't be surprised if there was an accurate way to measure the strength of any given character RPG style.

I like it better without a hard system. I mean it's nice if to have the bounties or Fukurou's system so you can show where new characters rank in the world, but it's counter-productive when devil fruit powers can be so unpredictable when matched up to others (Luffy vs Enel, Mr. 3 vs Magellan, Buggy vs Mihawk). That's actually one of the draws of One Piece, that the fights can be very unpredictable whether or not the fighters are the same power level.

I'm with ya, but you know as well as I do there's always a gaming aspect to anime. This power discussion is a direct result of that. Who's stronger? In a game there would have to be factors that could add up to some sort of calculated ratio. At the end of the day it's plot that will effect the outcomes. Location, who vs who, what weapons or power ups they may have… In Dragon Ball and Gurren Lagann it's emotion and drive! That's still the best aspect of OP in my opinion. Luffy's drive is always what saves him and causes him to grow, devil fruit or no.
I dunno. I just love this show.

No it's not true that the Mugiwara pirates are more than four days travel time away from Candy Island. As Tamago clearly stated – one needs three days to reach said island when starting from FI.

Yeah, I'm curious too, how fast or slow the next chapter will be. The business of the SHs on FI has ended and the fishman island arc felt closed, so hopefully they will set sail this chapter. But oda could also stretch the departure over 2-3 chapters, especially when temago/pekoms are still there, though I dont think that they will attack luffy straight away. But just walking way is kind of embarrassing for crew members of an yonkou.

Maybe they have a third crew member in the wake who'll show up next chapter - like an equivalent to a low-end Whitebeard division commander or something. Then we'd have a good fight on our hands that'd fill up half of the chapter (possibly the whole thing) nicely:
*Luffy vs commander wannabe (wins after some effort)

One thing I've generally learned, the more "shocked" people get that Luffy is doing something ballsy against someone else, the less strong they are. It just feels that way to me. Even if we are talking about Big Mom's crew.
Reminds me of how Shanks sent Rockstar to talk with Whitebeard. A guy of that level would get wiped off the floor with the current monster trio.

Lol, I can't see how O2BT could argue that they we're stronger than the monster trio. Theres no way they're that strong their just messengers. Though that doesn't mean they can't fight. I would like to think they wouldn't back off after Luffy just threatened their boss.

Jenbe maybe but if Sanji didn't get that title when all he does is start fights and cook than I don't think it's a title that could apply to the strawhats. Maybe when they get bigger then they'll have titles like that. Zoro is the swordsman of the crew that should remain his title.

However, one can say that a swordsman is a specialized type of fighter. So both "fighter" and "Swordsman" would both fit Zoro.

We can't just play with the word fighter. Zoro's job specifically is to fight other swordsman. He does other things like everyone else but would you call Usopp a figher or a sniper? If there is anybody that could be a "fighter" it's robin since archologist isn't really a position on a pirate ship.

At least Sanji and Robin have a definite role or position. Only reaso why I'm not set on just "swordsman" is just because there hasn't been an "official" role like that yet.

Being labeled as a swordman may be true for Mihawk, but for Zoro and for example Vista, the official title in a piratecrew should be called simply "fighter".
Zoro is for sure still aiming for the title best swordman, but right now he proved more than once that he is a full part of the crew and nothing else.
Jinbe will be in the end labeled the same but just like Zoro he will help with smaller stuff(like setting sails etc)which intigrates him as working part of the crew. -
