One Piece Chapter 706: I won't laugh at you

Yay, Bellamy!
… now all we have to do is wait for the real script.

So after the lineups was revealed there's no revolutionaries interested on the Mera-Mera… After this i just ask myself when we will see them into the action?
Probably when shit hits the fan.

Bart Club pirates? Why Oda do you confuse me? Why do you have a card system for Doflamingo's top seats, where the Heart pirate captain was in line for the heart seat, but the Spade pirate captain seemingly has nothing to do with it? And now we get a crew with Club in its name, and Bart seems to have nothing to do with Dressrosa. Maybe I should just think nothing of it…but still if those crews don't have anything to do with the seats you would think Oda would just name them something else to avoid confusion.

Just now realize that Bellamy also have this "special" sash tied around his waist

But Luffy don't know about that

Fair enough. Could you give your thoughts on the Spade pirates though?

There is some copyrigt or something?
-
Smart…No seriously though Oda most likely knew he was going to use a card system for Dofla's seats. So why would he name Ace's crew the spade pirates? If Ace's first crew wasn't really that important Oda could have named them anything, but he named them the spade pirates. Did he not think that might confuse some people? So unless there actually is a connection that we don't know about. (I have ocd so I can't just think nothing of it lol)
-
I see Jesus Burgess recruiting someone for Blackbeard's crew in this arc, such as Bartolomeo, Cavendish, or maybe Rebecca(who is totally secretly evil)

The Ace of Spades is associated with death. That's why they were the Spade Pirates. Not like there can't be two people using a Spade theme.
-
Are we actually going to see a soft side to Caribou? It seems he went back to the old woman on his own accord, and even if this is Caribou here, I can't see him doing anything else except saving her life with his swamp ability. I guess even some raging psychopaths have some good in them.
Now, Bartolomeo…the Cannibal?? It doesn't seem like its a mere nickname either as he apparently has roasted people alive on a skewer. This is pretty gruesome in the One Piece universe. Sure, we've had Wapol who ate some people whole but it never really seemed like cannibalism, more like absorbing a power and seemed more cartoonish. Also a bit more plausible given that Barto clearly looks like he's some sort of beast-man (Zoan perhaps?). Barto also has this punk/goth style going that makes him seem right at home on Thriller Bark.
Bellamy here is a bit more interesting. While there does seem to be a rivalry with Luffy, it seems he has a newfound respect for Luffy. Not surprising because he still has a higher bounty than him and proved himself right that Sky Island did exist. I'm thinking that Luffy unwittingly inspired Bellamy to be more ambitious and adventurous albeit in a more sinister was (idolizing Doflamingo for one). And is Bellamy seriously gotten strong enough to take on a combined group attack from the other bigshots in the battle royale? I'd hazard to guess that Bellamy knows haki now and, combined with the lightning speed of his fruit, is among the fastest pirates around.
Now some of these new guys are interesting. We're getting Christopher freaking Columbus (Adventurer Orlumbus) in D-block. Elizabello the Second seems like a pro boxer with a King Henry II persona. I'm sure there are others in this thread that are more familiar with the Japanese sports figures many of these are doubtlessly an homage to.
Lastly, colosseum matches only end through ring-out or death. Even considering One Piece's hangup on directly depicting death, it would be an amusing avoidance for every one of these matches to end in a ring-out. It will be interesting to see if even all of the most nameless and fodder-ish of these combatants walks away from this tournament.

Didn't I call Bart having a Johnny Bravo hairstyle? (Come at me).
Anyways, I see people are confuse of wanting Bellamy to win but not wanting to see Bart who defeated a VA lose to him, well everything has a solution you know. This where Bart personality, most hated and cruelty will come in. Bart does some crazy sh*t that's way way against the rule= Bart gets disqualified, Bellamy then fights and win Block B without defeating or losing to Bart same with Bart(a win win for all). Peace
-
it would funny if in the next cover story we see caribou just leave the granny for dead and steals all her shit lol
do you guys think that bellamy is going to get more development maybe at the end of the arc we see the skypians and it actually turns out that bellamy saved them from something and they gave the pillar to him as a gift -
So it's time to bet!
Block B: Barto
Block D: Rebecca -
did anyone notice that Caribou seems to care about the old Lady in a not evil-bastard-way?
Maybe he'll put out the fire with his powers
-
@The:
It's either the Super Rookies Saga or the Pirate Alliance Saga. Don't really know which, to be honest.
I have source about that only from Wikia
Want it or not?

Hi there guys,
sorry for coming out of the blue, but there's something that bugged me.I don't know if it has struck your eyes yet,but don't you find it a little odd
that Bartolomeo's tattoo beneath his eyes seems to be disappearing and re-
appearing?I'm not sure whether it's intended or likely to be a mistake made by the editors.
What are your thoughts on this?

whoah.. I didn't notice it before… but you're right. I hadn't seen the raw but mangapanda and Batoto have different translations but same image that misses the tattoo in the bottom panel.[HIDE] [/HIDE]

Oda probably made a mistake. He'll fix it the tank_ō_ban release, most likely, unless it's actually intentional.
-
Far as i can tell the tattoo is only missing from two panels. Good catch, but probably just a mistake.
Anyway, i feel that Barto is absolutely gonna crush Bellamy. Won't be competitive.
-
Very nice chapter.. I am glad that we'll see more about bellamy.. As i've been saying it before We've seen him that he'd prolly show off in this arc..
I dont think that he did something bad ? Or maybe he tried and Eneru came back to save Skypiea and owned Bellamy then said he couldn't let someone like him destroy skypia? Luffy's will. Lmfao.. One piece is as huge as the ocean. Ironic

I didn't notice that but I'm inclined to ignore this just like when I ignored Blackbeard full set of teethes in this page:

I tell you.
Most of the participants in this tournament will become Luffy's ally and will aide him during the Finale.
(idea sparked off on how Cavendish seems to like Lucy, and will definitely come back no and then)
-
Ricky is going to win B Block. He is Sabo.
-
Bellamy is going to jump up high in the air and do the signature move of Nam from Dragonball.
-
Just a few things:
I think Bartolomeo seems like an alright guy. He just doesn't need the support of others.
One little thing I loved: when Luffy didn't remember Bellamy's name. Usually, you'd expect the other person to facefault and get angry that their name was forgotten, but Bellamy just cuts off his babbling early with a flat "It's 'Bellamy'." And Luffy doesn't miss a beat with that "Right, 'Bellamy'!" I have no clue why, but I got a kick out of that exchange.
I also like that Cavendish is attempting to form a bond with Lucy. I think whether or not he wins his block, he will play the role of an ally during this arc.
Speaking of Cavendish, I see a lot of people saying they'd like him to win over Rebecca, while criticizing her character as "lacking". I don't know, wouldn't the fact that she could take down a pirate worth 280,000,000 berries add something of worth to her character? It would at least show that she's not just the latest little girl being oppressed by a seemingly invincible bully who can only be saved with the help of Luffy and his glorious rubber fists. I really hope she pulls a win in her block, or if not, she only loses by a technicality or some other way that doesn't undermine her strength or battle prowess.
I really like most of the designs as well. I hope all of these named characters return in some way later down the line. Whether it be later in the current arc, or a few years from now when the Straw Hats visit their respective countries or whatever. With the reintroduction of Bellamy, it seems like this is likely.
-
Has anyone noticed bellamy's jolly roger? it seems to be the straw hat one with a cross over it.
-
Has anyone noticed bellamy's jolly roger? it seems to be the straw hat one with a cross over it.
It's hard to make out exactly what jolly roger the cross is covering (could be a skull jolly roger like the Straw Hats', could be his old jolly roger with the lips and tongue), but I think that if he held that much of a grudge against Luffy, their exchange in this chapter would have probably gone a lot differently.
-
It's probably said a dozen times before, but it's pretty clear now that Bellamy has a Smile fruit power, right?
He comes back with gold from Skypeia and champions the glory of Dressrosa. His nickname is the 'Hyena' and he states "I’m not the man I was back then…!!"…
With the revelation of the Smiles being what they are and the tie in with Bellamy's arc concluding with Doflamingo's talk of the age of Smiles, we're probably going to see the first Smile/Devilfruit combo user (that is, if Pekoms wasn't a smile user).
-

I think it has to do with him being "reborn". This chapter title is important, it's not about mocking only Luffy, I think, it's about not mocking people's dreams. He went to sky island and found the city of gold, after all.
What I really want to know soom is who the hell is Ricky. Looks like a disguise like Luffy's and I think it may be a marine to aid Capman (originally). Perhaps Coby?

But his epithet was always "the Hyena". Not saying it's not a possibility, just saying I see nothing alluding to it.

1. No, actually.
2. No, actually. -
Wow, really? No one else thinks he's gonna be a smile user?

you asked if it was clear, not if it was possible. If smiles can be really be combined with DF, it would be a nice way of showing it. Still, it's to early to say it is so.
Bellamy was always strong, just not as strong as Luffy. He's like Arlong but with a DF and no sharp teeth. I don't see why he wouldn't get stronger in 2 crazy years if Usopp did…
-
Wow, really? No one else thinks he's gonna be a smile user?
Not everyone checks this thread every 10 minutes.
It could make sense. I still don't think he has one, but that would be an interesting turn and give Oda a chance to explain how they work, on top of giving him a decent and logical power-up.
-

Pekoms, Bepo, Figthing Bull and Fighting Lion are smile users I bet. They ate early models where you can't transform back. I guess Momo ate a newer model which allows you to go back to human form. But anyway I don't know about Bellamy having one, probably not though.
-
I don't check it every 10 minutes either, which is why I just figured it'd be something people have brought up and discussed, till someone said otherwise.
The biggest hole in my supposition of this is how Doflamingo views Bellamy. At the end of Jaya arc it's obvious that Bellamy is not even worth Doflamingo's attention, but after he returns from Skypeia things started 'looking up' so he may have been gifted with more power and now a chance to ascend even further. The idea falls flat if Doflamingo doesn't really care about Bellamy still and is just using him for amusement.
-

Momo didn't eat a smile, he ate "Vegapunk's artificial fruit". Caesar is said to be the only person in the world who can produce SAD, which is the main ingredient to Smiles. So I'm guessing there is some difference between them.
I agree about the turning back thing, though. I think Momo's fruit is incomplete (that was said, i think… right?) because he can't control the transformation. Caesar found a way to make it so the user will be always transformed (or maybe limited to animal and hybrid), thus creating the SAD and Smile.
Bepo I think is either a human soul in a bear body or has human vocal chords. Either way, I think he's a result of Law's power.
-
You can't go wrong with a pirate that picks his nose.
I really like this Bartolomeo guy. He doesn't give a shit about anything other than kicking some ASS! I know a lot of people are comparing him to Kid (and I don't blame them, I mean look at the guy!), but… he kinda reminds me of Luffy as well. He just wants to fight and he doesn't care if you're for him or against him. And I think he's not as bad as everyone makes him out to be. I mean the ball bit was a perfect example of this. He was like "wow, you people are really overacting." I know he has a ruthless reputation, but.. I dunno, I don't always trust first impressions of characters. I think Bartolomeo, like Kuma, will surprise people.
But yeah, Bartolomeo has to win Block B! I'll be rooting for him!
-
I can't see how Barto is going to lose. He required Oda to create 2 characters (one being a VA) just to build him up, is the underdog in-story and we don't know how he fights yet while Bellamy's abilities are already known.
-
-
Does anyone else think that his arc might not end with a showdown with Doflamingo? Especially with these past two chapters, there's just so much going on. The Marines, Luffy and the coliseum, Franky and the factory, Sanji and Violet, Zoro and the Fairies, Law's group and Green Bit, whatever is happening at the Thousand Sunny, Kinemon and Kanjuro, not to mention all these people from Doflamingo's crew and all the new contesants at the coliseum, it's just so packed.
So my theory: I think Fujitora will end up confronting Doflamingo at Green Bit and Franky will destroy the factory. Seeing this Doflamingo will flee to Kaidou's crew with Caesar.
-
Has anyone noticed bellamy's jolly roger? it seems to be the straw hat one with a cross over it.
Nope, its center is too small… To me it doesn't look like a straw hat, but a pair of lips with a tongue sticking out, it looks like the old Bellamy Pirates image= vs
-

Well there's always the possibility that Oda could inception music plays takes it another level deeper, and as it turns out Barto build up including the VA, was really Just Bellamy's build up for when he takes out Barto. It would basically be the exact same thing that happened between Barto and Maynard.
But i really doubt it plays out like that. Instead i sort of expect more of Bellamy's new mellowed out, more likeable demeanor to be showcased as he's made into a sympathetic victim of the evil Barto. The reformed villain meets a tragic end (or at least sees his dreams end tragically).
-
Wow, apparently people forgot all about Bellamy's Spring Spring Fruit^^;;. People really do ignore fodder fruit powers like that easily do they?^^;;
-
It's not that they forgot his DF, it's that they're expecting that devil fruits and smiles will be able to work together… or at least i hope that's what they think.
-
I think Bellamy is going to be used mostly as a jump off point for explaining Donflamingo's appeal and history more. We've been wondering why Dressrosa clearly like their king, and why it seems like a pretty good place to be. Bellamy might just be Oda's vehicle to explaining that.
