Thanks for the chapter. Seems we're really flying to the climax…though at least we know Vanderdecken was probably the biggest bastard of them all with what he's pulling. (and Hody...well, wasn't worth anything. This feels more like the Krieg arc in some ways then some sort of climax to one of the most anticipated arcs)
Chapter 637: "The Ancient Ark"- Discussion
-
-
Hody isn't able to actually hurt Luffy, Luffy wasn't able to knock Hody out. So this could be an indication that Luffy still needs to improve a lot
Luffy's just playing around. His Haki headbutt didn't break steel which he did with one blow in Water Seven. For comparison just imagine a 100% effort bloodlusted Hakified full body G2 Jet Bazooka which is the kind of attack he'll be throwing around every time in really serious fights. It actually makes Luffy seem almost overpowered when you consider how little of his full power he is putting in.
-
it's obvious that he used that bubble to reach the chain. he probably created it with a bubble coral. We already saw in the ryuguu palace people getting bubbles without showing us the method till later.
Lol, you`re right.
Always seeing super-strong people fight, let me almost forget that the Noah is still damn high in the sky and so even for Hodi just to reach with such a trick ;)you just have to press it
http://www.mangafox.com/manga/one_piece/v59/c620/3.htmlOhh yeah we saw that already.
But in Skypia those dials weren
t made by people, because they
re shells from snails(just like den-den mushis are real animals and not creations of Vegapunk or something like that) and i guess also those corals should be growing naturaly.
Both work the same way, by pushing a button on them.
Like cloud dials those corals just work with a specific ingrident(mangrove-juice?!) and by that just in a specific area. -
I really loved the art this chapter. The last two weeks, it seemed that Oda was really skimping on it but he came back in full form this chapter.
And for all those complaining about how everything seems rushed, it's probably because the fishman island arc is not going to end with Hody's attempted coup. There's still the Fishman Karate Dojo, the Reverie, Luffy somehow destroying the island etc. etc.
-
Anything VDD throws hits its target… well, enough for Shirahoshi to just touch the ship: at the speed it is traveling, she won't get hurt !
-
Hody is one tough sonovavitch! It seems like there is soon going to be a need for some jet haki punch. If he survives one, it means he is tougher than the pacifistas. I'd really hoped that Luffy would stop the Noah with some Gear 3 maximum power arm, but this resolution is also good. But it's obvious that the awesome level has dropped from previous chapter.
-
You fucked with me, Vander Decken!
Haha, I love the translation.
-
The ark reminds me of Maxim from Skypiea. Good chapter just wondering how the one v ones gonna go?
-
@Thousand:
Luffy somehow destroying the island
Maybe there is a self-destruction button somewhere, with clear instruction not to push :-)
-
Amazing chapter visually … but otherwise pretty quick change of priorities - also Caribou wtf is going on with him? I hate loose ends that seem like they are not going to get answered.
Since when does Oda do that?
-
Very nice to see how Luffy's bulked up, and I'm interested in seeing how Decken and Hody will handle this mutiny.
Things I personally predict we'll see coming up:
- Luffy dealing with Hody's power increased in the water.
- Decken losing his hand's connection to Shirahoshi by having the glove taken off and being touched to something else, maybe even Luffy (or Hody).
- The ship being dangerous even if it stops moving, maybe even being an ancient weapon.
- If the island is destroyed by Luffy, I imagine it'll be in order to permanently stop that weapon and folks will be on his side.
- Caribou getting beaten and his captives freed in a quick, comical way.
- Underwater after-party, Nami learning what else besides the log pose she'll need in the new world, Jinbe being asked to…
- Heading up and off to the New World!
-
Anything VDD throws hits its target… well, enough for Shirahoshi to just touch the ship: at the speed it is traveling, she won't get hurt !
Thought exactly the same or she simply could change the direction to the surface or whereever instead of staying there and watching it
-
I thoroughly enjoyed the chapter. The artwork is amazing.
Hody doesn't actually seem the fodder that he is in the previous chapters. He wasn't able to put up a fight, sure, but he's quite a tank taking all those "hakified" attacks (Luffy even comments on it).
Robin's dark humor never fails to crack me up.
-
A really nice chapter.
Kureha has gathered all the doctors of the old Drum Kingdom under the banner of Hiluluk, and turned Isshies 20 to Isshies 100. Grand Line has yet to see another 141 years old woman of her caliber. And with this page, I suppose Oda will move on to Alabasta.
Luffy-Hody routine is as entertaining as ever. With this little skirmish between them, Oda quite effectively shows how versatile Luffy is with his new powers - he uses all ofhis body quite easily, and doesn't even break a swet. I have got to love Luffy's face when he dodges Hodi's yabusame.
But the highlight of the chapter for me is the arrival of Noah and the perspective views. Oda does this kind of thing very well. And this page has the most full view of the island and Ryugu palace we have had. I am really excited to see that the battlefield, at least for Luffy, is changing to the board of Noah.
But really, Robin has the best lines.
-
So what would happen if Caribou did manage to suck Shirahoshi up right now? His body's supposedly infinite, after all…
-
Oh that just goes without saying now.
Actually, it almost looks like its the same guy too. Like Jinbei is just continuously strangling that one guy. Maybe it helps him concentrate :)
-
@$abZ:
Everything seems to be a bit of a mess in terms of this arc. Luffy keeps kicking Hody's ass yet Hody just keeps getting back up.
Okay…? This happened with Arlong and myriad other foes. What's the issue?
VDD throwing the ship has made a nice change, but it needs to be built on further, because I don't want Luffy to get up there and just save everyone. I was hoping to find out the history behind Noah… but at least we know it has some, which means that destroying the ship is the least likely way it'll be diverted.
From Neptune's comments last chapter and chapters earlier in the arc, it's very, very likely we're going to get lots of development on the meaning of Noah so I wouldn't worry about that.
Everything is happening very quickly.
This I do agree with.
A fight between Luffy, VDD and Hody will probably be pretty cool in the ship. But Luffy has shown that he can beat them… it's just a question of whether VDD and Hody will team up to take on Luffy. I can't see Hody wanting to team up with Decken now.
Luffy vs. Hody isn't as one-sided as everybody thinks; yeah, Luffy keeps pounding him, but Hody continues to get up and even Luffy in this chapter is shocked by how much abuse he's taking ("He's built like a tank!"). I don't think Hody and Decken will team up at this point, but Hody in his new form in the water is going to be something frightening, I'm sure.
-
Actually it is unique this is an opposite to most Luffy fights - Where Luffy gets knocked down and has to keep getting up to fight.
Think of this as Luffy is Lucci and Hordy is Luffy, so the end fight will be more epic as Hordy is barely able to hold his own against Luffy … at least that is what I am hoping for.
-
I thought this was an excellent chapter, one of the best so far in this arc. A little fast, but seeing Luffy's new fighting style was awesome (CoA Gomu Gomu no Kane was hilarious), and it seems like Hody might be more of a threat than people are counting on. Beautiful artwork as well. It's also nice to see Luffy fighting without Gears, and this shows that he can hold his own in his base state.
-
You heard it here first.. Caribou will suck Noah and join Strawhats so in case of an emergency he can throw it up and instant noodle…. instant Ancient Warship.
-
Maybe Hodi Jones is climbing the Noah to kill or beat up Van Der Decken? Afterall, he did betray Hodi.
And after this chapter, don't take it seriously but
WADATUSME FOR NEW NAKAMATE. :) -
I'm wondering what they're going to find inside Noah… I'm sort of predicting some groundbreaking discovery on Luffy's part, a parallel with him finding Nami's map room whilst he fought Arlong. We'll see, though...
-
So what would happen if Caribou did manage to suck Shirahoshi up right now? His body's supposedly infinite, after all…
I think Noah would begin to "chase" him because Shirahoshi would be inside him.
-
Great chapter! Luffy pounding on Hodi is just too satisfying!
And what´s up with the Vulcanization some people bring up? It´s just CoA! Haki, guys, it´s Haki!
Oh, and I really hope Caribou appears and does something dumb!
-
Since when does Oda do that?
I did say.
I hate loose ends that seem like they are not going to get answered.
I know they will be answered but it's been a while since we had an update from him - it just seems so scrambled.
-
Remember the war and the door opening out of nowhere? when did he explain that? almost at the end of the war, so no need to rush anything, he will show Caribou again when its the time to show him again.
-
I only like the end of the chapter. Can`t wait for more VDD
-

Yeah I know that - on a grand scale its taken many many years to get where we are, doesn't mean that we can't be a little impatient about some things each.
-
Good chapter, Luffy indeed doth kicketh the ass.
-
Shira is finally getting stronger and the 3 way fight will be interesting. But just me or was Chopper weirdly drawn this chapter?
-
@metteminne:

He's still in Horn point.
Boring chapter was boring. After the awesome chapters we've had over the past few weeks I just felt this was dull. Kureha, Robin's morbidness and Luffy's new attacks kinda made it ok.
-
- The ship being dangerous even if it stops moving, maybe even being an ancient weapon.
Actually a couple of signs do point toward it being an ancient weapon. It's fucking huge for one. It's a ship… and Pluton was a ship. Neptune said something like "it's not time to be used yet"... which may have something to do with the Poneglyph on FI and instructions given to the royal family (which has been passed down through the years, a bit like Cobra on Alabasta). We also know it's "ancient".
Maybe there's more to this ship than what people think... but why would it be so easy to locate if it were an ancient weapon?
-

I think this chapter will be an amazing chapter animated if they get a good artist for it. The fights the epic vistas - the crashing boat - but as for storyline seems like we're going back to more set up.
-
Realy good chapter. Also, love that Wadatsumi showed up again. So I hope someone fights him for at least a while, I would kind of want to know how the Sh's would deal with something that big.
-

I wouldn't call being under extreme water presure, in a ghetto district full of the worse Fishmen and also unable to be activated without someone who can read ponyglyphs exactly "easy"
-
Kureha is beautiful as always!
Poor Wadatsumi:/ He's so dumb, yet, I feel his heart is in the right place. Or I'm looking too much into it… I love the way he talks.
Nice chapter!
YEAH !
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Luffy is not fair … he should let Sanji go and have some fun with this fodder people...
Seriously what are Sanji and Zoro are now intending to do... Ok Zoro has Hyozou maybe... but Sanji?
-

Oh right forgot that
But I like the build up to a 3 way fight where Luffy is out of his element
-

Well considering ancient weapons are meant to be highly dangerous and a big threat to the WG, you wouldn't imagine it just lying around where the NFP hang out. The WG would have noticed that surely… and made a move to retrieve or destroy it. Although I guess the marines hardly pass through FI because they have Marijoa permission. But you would imagine ancient weapons to be extremely hard to locate, not out in the open on FI.
But there is one thing that might support your point. It's interesting how the Poneglyph was out in the open too, unlike the ones we've seen so far. Maybe the marines just never go to Fishman Island.
-
favorite chapter since 601
-

Intentionally or not, I think you just made an amazing prediction.
About next week's cover… who should we expect in Alabasta? Vivi, Carue, Cobra, Igaramu and his wife, Chaka, Pell, Kohza, Toto, Goro and Gedatsu. Am I forgetting someone?

The Mer Races also have reference to the Void Century in a way I think - too hard to look up to confirm it though. So maybe there was more behind it - perhaps you need a Seaking to use Noah - and if you want to use a Seaking you'd need someone who can control them - and if you thought of Noah as a source of power or treasure you'd spend generations trying to find someone able to harness that power.
Void Century> Noah > Shirahoshi > VDD's Legacy could happen.

Eyelash and Scissors?

-
Interesting that Hodi's body can withstand CoA hits, even though he's completely out of Luffy's league. It's like Luffy first thought: "Strong Enemy! Go G2 to be safe!", and now Luffy's thinking: "Ah, CoA is enough. He can't do shit to me."
Anyway, other than the fight, not much else in this chapter.
Also, Shirahoshi is way to stereotypical of a princess to join the Strawhats. -
Thought exactly the same or she simply could change the direction to the surface or whereever instead of staying there and watching it
Even if Shirahoshi touched the ship, if it's filled with water it would still fall on Fishman Island.
-
have anyone notice that the main island and the upper one are conected by a tube?
http://mangastream.com/read/one_piece/27862757/10
maybe karate gyojin dojo is there. -
Did Luffy use Gear 3 or not in that one panel where he punched Hodi in the gut? I noticed he doesn't say what gear he's going into as much was it a partial gear 3 because the hand isn't as big as it usually is

@Oga:
Eyelash and Scissors?
You're right! They'll probably show up as well.

I don't think I was clear enough, sorry. I meant the following weeks, not just the next. Alabasta is definitely getting more than one cover.

You have a point about the marines, but the general population doesn't know about the ancient weapons. I'm assuming that, since Robin didn't think Iceburg would be aware of their existence.

My reaction to this chapter
[
U](
)ntil the get the water ofc. Also this played while I stared at Kureha, it felt kinda epic:
