Just want to say that the ending has provided the anime with its first good "Overtaken" moment in years. They better not botch this one.
Chapter 633: Friend or Foe
-
-
Just for comparison's sake…
Chapter 492:
!
Chapter 633:
!
I believe the Duval mini-arc was the last time we had a spread like that, with all the SH's getting ready to kick some butt. So that's 141 chapters… Counting breaks taken over those chapters, that's easily over 150 weeks, which means it's basically been 3 years since we've seen a spread like that. Dayumn. It's amazing to see how much it's evolved.
-
should i be expecting flashbacks as to how they got their new abilities???
-
It's kind of funny how Brook looks less comedic in the older spread than the new one. Either way, it's pretty sweet to see that comparison.
-
It is possible that there will be an explanation on:
-How Luffy and Jinbei stopped fighting
- Reuniting with Zoro, Brooke and Usopp
- The plan they had in mind.
I think someone mentioned that Zoro vs Hyozo could be on land and water. I am starting to believe that this will happen as well when VDD shows us.
-
Lol, I just noticed how small the sunny looked on the last panel compared to papaug and franky. Jeez it sure shrunk.
-
Sis told me to post.
Ikaros will be defeated by Tabasco Boshi (Star).
Also, lol@ Oda messing up size perspective.
That is all.

Hm, your sis didn't say he was going to be defeated by tabasco star. She just said that it will appear in the battles ahead. Tsk, tsk.
That picture would be perfect if the panel was slightly bigger than it is shown, so the size perspective wouldn't be crunched up like that. Still, I can't stop staring at it. (and Nami's new belt.)
-
Very good chapter. With the Sea Animals neutralized, I do feel the NFP are pretty outgunned right now, especially with Decken, Wadatsumi and maybe those two guys that seem to be Decken's underlings behind back at the Fishman District, but as long as underutilized SH's like Brook, Chopper & Robin have some action (not like that), I'm fine with whatever happens.
-
The best reveal this week is definitely Nightmare Urouge. Love seeing everyone together again. I'm not sure if Oda will waste time going back to explain things. It seems like what we got before for Zoros team will be it. They were in a trivial amount of danger and the fact that everyone showed up when they wanted to further emphasizes their growth. I wouldn't be surprised to see the anime stretch those scenes out a little more, almost felt written that way. Personally I'd like to see Zoro cut Hyozou next chapter rather then a cage… Unless of course he missed and took out the castle ;D

You are right, my sis never said that. I SAID THAT!
-
That was epic. Made the whole week wait totally worth it. I couldn't hold my burst of joy when Luffy showed up and kicked Hody's ass.
-
Any thoughts on how much longer this arc is gonna be?
-
Any thoughts on how much longer this arc is gonna be?
I'd wager the rest of this year at least.
-
I feel like we are in for an epic CP9ish fight. Not in terms of difficulty, but more like people running around and many different locations for the fighting to take place…
-
Any thoughts on how much longer this arc is gonna be?
I don't see Hody and his gang lasting long. I foresee the fight being very short. 10 chapters at most. The question is where the arc goes after that because I don't see Fishman Island arc ending after Hody & co. are defeated. The arc ends when the fishmen "see the sun" and live together with humans.
-
do you not realize what a double issue is?
we don't get two chapters, we get ONE chapter followed by a break
I meant if we could get 2 chapters weekly instead of just one. I miss used double issue. My apologies
-
@Doke:

Kinda hope so - I had a bizarre idea that perhaps Noah breaks the major bubble and the Island into sperate smaller bubbles that contain a SH and NFP to fight - but I doubt that would ever happen.
-
Chapter was meh, pretty boring. Last page was epic.
Still Oda didn't disappoint with this chapter, it was a good build up chapter.
Can't wait for the next one. -
Any thoughts on how much longer this arc is gonna be?
Hopefully not to much longer, I don't know if its just me but this arc seems like its been dragging on forever. I don't know if its the pacing that feels strange or just that I'm not as invested in the story and more importantly the villain (I mean seriously Hodi Jones is Arlong without the Nami backstory, so basically just a dick Fishaman) like I usually am with a One Piece arc. Hope this arc lets Oda get his groove back in time for the New World!
-
You know, i've seen just as many people complaining that this arc is going slow and dragging on as the people who say it's moving really fast and should be slowed down.
Conclusion: people don't know what they're talking about.
Here's the thing. This arc was destined to have tonnes of whiners and unfair criticism from before it even started. First, there's one segment of people who want to move on and see the New World and this last arc before that is just in the way. And then there's another segment who have been heavily anticipating Fishman Island forever because this arc seemed to be just around the corner for years, and thus when their specific expectations of what this arc should have been aren't meant you better fucking watch out.
I feel it's really a shame because many people are judging this perfectly fine arc for what it isn't as opposed to what it is.
-
Does anyone else feel sorry for Megalo?
Sure its creepy but people are always making him smuggle people in his mouth. -
I agree that some people may be making to much or to little out of this arc before going into it but that doesn't justify that this arc has been, in my opinion, rather boring. Not terrible but….I keep waiting for something interesting to happen or for me to give a damn about anything or anyone in Fishman Island (something Oda is usually so great at) and I just can't. It all seems rather bland and I keep losing interest in whats happening. The villains lack any original personality, I'm not invested enough in the history if the island or its people, and the story seems to be concentrating more on the secondary characters as opposed to the SHs, which is usually fine but not when we haven't seen the crew go on a big arc for 2 years and not when the secondary characters are as bland and uninteresting as they are. Maybe I'm looking ahead too much but honestly I just want to get to a story I'm more invested in because for whatever reason this one just isn't working for me.

Can't wait for the next one.To each their own but what was boring about it, barring Shirahoshi
-
I admit that I wasn't intimated by Hody. Even Enel was more scary. I thougth Hyozo is the only cool one. I am expecting a great fight sequence now.
I am rather looking foward to the straw hats taking on Smoker and his men in the NW or Luffy taking on a Yonku.
-
Also anybody else notice how similar Luffy introducing himself to Hody Jones is to to Arlong?
Both times Luffy sent their asses crashing into a building.
Whether it's intentional or not I thought it was pretty neat. -
Great chapter. Luffy looked really bad-ass, especially when he sent Hody crashing into the building. I can't wait for next week.

Whether it's intentional or not I thought it was pretty neat. There are several scenes that mirror arlong park. This one of course, Sanji pulling an Usopp getting caught between a fight, From the same scene Sanji lying on the ground seemingly knocked out lighting a cig, and well… I guess thats as far as I got. Jinbe's joining.

bout dam time the main conflict began

yeah thats the way i feel too. but i also get the vibe that there is something bigger and better being saved for later in the arc…......
-
Right now, Luffy has no reason to destroy the island. Something bigger must happen for him to go berserk.

Does anyone else feel sorry for Megalo?
Sure its creepy but people are always making him smuggle people in his mouth.Luffy is small compared to Shirahoshi, it was no problem for Megalo.
-
This chapter was glorious. GLORIOUS!
-
Such amazing callbacks, too:
http://mangastream.com/read/one_piece/71794722/12
(Parallels the same stance he held before the three Admirals. The only difference is that he's doing ALL of the ass-kicking here.)
http://mangastream.com/read/one_piece/71794722/17
(Parallels Whitebeard's framing by the Marines, in which he ultimately settles the matter by telling the pirates to "decide for themselves")
This definitely makes me feel like Luffy's a grown-up now. :D
-
I like how Hody's eyes are white, blood spewing from both his nose and mouth, as he's getting wtfpwned by Luffy's kick.
Along with getting one-shotted by Zoro earlier, only to recover by popping pills, Hody's been a laughable punchbag of an arc villain so far.
Frankly, I like it. More beat-down, please.
I look forward to seeing him utterly destroyed towards the end of the arc. -
If, when, Hordy gets owend badly…well, would that really give us any answers as to how strong the SHs are at this point?
-

I don't know, and frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.
I just can't wait to see this idiot destroyed, and put into his place.
-
Well I think the fights will end fast… This guys are jokes... At least for monster trio... Just kick them around and move on.
-
I loved this chapter!
I also think that there is a meaning for Luffy speach to FI inhabitant in the last panels: "(are WE friends or are WE foes?) you decide for yourself". It may reflects that all the people in the last panel might be the future SH crew (+Jinbei +Shirahoshi +Pappug???). -

These were really neat to read. I love when Oda turns his literary turbo boost on and keeps bringing parallel after parallel. I would love for Luffy to resemble Whitebeard near the end of the series, in actions not in looks. o.O
-
Whole chap reminded me of Arlongpark arc. Helpless (yet courageous) girl asks Luffy to save her friends/town/island. Luffy beats crap out of fishman. Arc is kinda boring me now.
Didn't care for that "come and destroy our island now" angle either.
Props to the guy who speculated a week or two back that Luffy would be hiding in Megalo's mouth.
I already seen it in the NN thread but ppl clamoring for Jinbe as a lock as next SH obviously choose to ignore Shirahoshi right there with them.
-
I don't know, and frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.

Yup I really want Hody to get smashed at this point, smashed bad.
-
Somehow, I get the feeling that Dekken is going to show up with that ridiculously huge Ark thing and we're gonna see some Foxy-esque antics of the Strawhats + Jinbe chasing him through the ship. In the process, via Robin, we'll learn about the origin of the Fishmen and "Joy Boy" (Is that really how it's translated, Aohige?)… maybe. I just know the New Fishmen are going to get Curbstomped.
-
I really like this chapter. I'm glad the SH showed up, it was about time someone put Hody in his place.
And I'm really impressed by the princess; keeping that secret to herself for so long and staying strong, not hatting Hody … she's a really pure person. -
Yup I really want Hody to get smashed at this point, smashed bad.
And then, smashed some more.
-
I just love the non-epic, carefree way Luffy descended. Just shows once more what a small fry Hodi is. Falling out of sharks mouth is plenty for a foe of this caliber.
I don't know what will happen next. Hodi is nothing for Luffy. There will be no half-dead finishers, shark is just an appetizer to show fruits of Luffy's training. But the arc needs something more, with it being the Fishman island, all this racism problems shown and hostility. I wonder what more will Oda write in. I doubt there will be someone stronger - such arcs have different feeling and construction, in my opinion. But something more must happen to use all the premise. Even if Strawhats will meet no respectable resistance from these pirates.
Oh, and did not Hodi offend Big Mom with one of his men biting and shaving through her drug factory? -
@Zik:
I already seen it in the NN thread but ppl clamoring for Jinbe as a lock as next SH obviously choose to ignore Shirahoshi right there with them.
Oh yea because Shirahoshi looks uber nakama worthy in that spread a beast among men she is Wow she is totally gonna pwn when she fights along side the crew!:getlost:
Besides what does it matter to you anyway? you have been down playing any type of Jinbe development every time he gets alittle.
-
@Fire Fist:
In the process, via Robin, we'll learn about the origin of the Fishmen and "Joy Boy" (Is that really how it's translated, Aohige?)
It's not how it's translated, it's what she literally said. Joy boy. In English. Nothing there to translate.

This is what I'm struggling the most with in this arc. I still keep my fingers crossed that we only are at it's jaya,it's water 7 stage.

I'm getting more and more interested in MadameShirley/Shiyari somehow. After it's been revealed that she's Arlong's sister, there just HAS to be some more background on her, screen time with her, etc…
Edit: Who here has "Overtaken" playing in their mind when Luffy kicks Hody until the epic spread? :ninja:
-
Nobody dies in One Piece.
Except that one guy.
I loled
That last panel, i love when you see the team getting ready for the big fight

For some reason Underdog played in mine.
