When he "died" by Itachi wasn't his soul purified or something? Even if he came back from one of the cursed seals he created.
Add Sasuke to the list of pardoned terrorists.
Also add the failing to keep the premise that every generation surpassing the previous when every previous ninja we meet was stronger than everyone else - bar Ninja Jesus and his Judas - by miles. Tobirama invented every overpowered justsu ever, Harashima capture tail beasts like pokemon, Madara…just everything...

The country of fire criminal record last until you die, no mater how heinous your crimes or if you revive yourself using the knowledge that you attained while comiting said crimes.
Sasuke got free by saying “that man is dead” in court. And presenting his crushed arm as evidence, no one challenged him on it.
-
He was the coolest guy.
I thought Obito was the coolest guy. Even Naruto said it so.
-
Orochimaru being alive and has pretty much achieved his goals was really stupid.
Dude experimented on kids, killed the 3rd hokage, almost murdered children(or did he) and was part of a terrorist organisation.
But science and grey morality hurr durr amiright3rd Hokage killed himself though.
As for him experimenting on and killing kids it's practically a drop in the bucket compared to what the Ninja Nations had been doing for years before. Such as forcing the Bijuu into containers not all of whom were willing subjects. Along with turning kids under the age of 10 into killing machines (of which Orochimaru is one of the many people that same training turned out).
Plus there's the fact the son of a bitch won't die.
- Gaara wearing earrings in his debut despite being unable to harm himself.
This presumes he pierced his own ears.
-
Kage bunshin no jutsu's ability to experience everything the clones did was a retcon. Naruto just went "I never noticed" when it was suggested as a possibility to aid in training.
The elemental chakra types were probably not an early concept (and then it was dropped almost entirely).
Kakashi's nickname being "Sharingan Kakashi" instead of "Copy Ninja".
Every new power of the sharingan was a retcon.
Also the moon rabbit lady existing at all.I just remembered there was some plot about the Mizukage being controlled by Akatsuki/Orochimaru/someone early in the war or maybe slightly before, what was that about?
-

The Fourth Mizukage (the one with the three-tail beast) was apparently genjutsu'd by Madara at some point and became a tyrant, which led to the whole Bloody Mist era that created people like Zabuza.
It wasn't really abandoned so much as unexplored, like most of the story taking place in the other countries sans Village of the Hidden Sand.
-
And then the problems of the world wasn’t caused by outdated traditions and systemic abuses but one creepy old man who hypnotises people for fun and destruction.
By the way, what was madara’s endgame? I forgot on the surprise evil sleeve and space bunny lady, she is the one who wanted chakra insteumentalization. While we are at it, what did Tobi want? I got lost on the individual akatsuki interpretations of their master plan of catching them all to become the best ninja mercenaries, and then to create the ninja atomic bomb.
-
The Samurais that were briefly introduced then never really used bothered me too.
-
I feel like the samurai were introduced to make more fodder and to have some swordfights in the background, since almost none of the ninjas use swords.

Poor Tenten. She really never got a chance to shine with her weapon skills. Despite Madara dropping his epic weapons lol.

Ah Tenten, that name always makes me remember Batsu Game

Basically they wanted to genocide the entire world so they can live in a ninja magic VR world
Aaand that technology is probably readily available in Boruto's world, just saying.

Having re-read the war for unfathomable reasons, it seems they both hated the shinobi system of backstabing politics, child soldiers, clan warring and such, and rejected that reality by having everybody live in their own little private world. At the very least, this sounded consistent with your first paragraph. I assume Madara was just sowing discord as a fuck you to Hashirama's politics, as the latter was the inventor of the Kage system that more or less kept the status quo but in a international scale instead of just local families fighting each other.
It's still unexplored because we barely see the actual politicians doing corrupt politics. You had something like that going in the Land of Waves, where the resident capitalist billionaire used ninjas for evil, and the Chunin exams, where the whole Sand invasion was fueled by resentment due to the Land of Wind nobility outsourcing ninja work to Konoha insted of their own. Even the Akatsuki had something this as goal, where they apparently worked in the interests of the smaller countries so they could stand up to the big guys, but the whole thing just spirals into moon aliens as being the bad guys all along.
Esssentially, the whole thing could have turned out thematically not as bad if either Obito or Madara were the de facto final bosses, but no, it's all alien conspiracies.
-
Write a complex system of war and conflict generate by greed, corruption, a War states doctrine starting creating soldiers from infants and the repercussions said system and actions cause to the characters and the world, or just hand wave it to bunny aliens from the moon wanting to harvest the life force of the planet?
Bunny Goddess it is.
-
I've been rereading large sections of Part II, and yeah: it's remarkable how much more compelling and affecting even the largely awful War arc of the story could've been if the manga had been committed to it.
-
Hell, remove the Bunny Goddess and the story improves already.
-
Hell, remove the Bunny Goddess and the story improves already.
I mean you’d still have Pain killing half the village and then resurrecting them, Danzo being abruptly killed off after his duplicity was revealed, Itachi killing his clan for reasons eventually being revealed that he (along with Obito) killed his clan because Danzo fucked up his and Shunsui’s plan, the war dragging out for thousands of chapters, Taka/Hebi doing nothing meaningful, all the other Jinchuuriki’s being glossed over, Hinata doing nothing after revealing her feelings to Naruto, Obito and Madara getting the same power up chapters apart (which Naruto also gets), Madara being broken to the point even a powered up Naruto & Sasuke can’t stop him, Naruto being able to heal Guy but not save his leg, Yamato being held hostage by branches,
The big ass time skip that the movie, anime, and novels have to fill in, etc.
-
Oh man the greatest turning point of no return was the end of Pain invasion.
After that it all went downhill, like two seperate manga before that point.
Which is actually hilarious considering the arc after was when Kishimoto truly introduced the other kages in an attempt to world build but actually just wanted to use them as fodder for his grand war against trees.
Everything before was so Konoha centric but open the world up and bang bang goes the story. -
words
I said it would make it better, not save it.
I mean you’d still have Pain killing half the village and then resurrecting them,
That arc was a mess. A complete mess. Hinata's "confession" was the only good thing.
Danzo being abruptly killed off after his duplicity was revealed,
Another interesting plot dropped because discusting real war politics was to hard to Kishimoto.
Itachi killing his clan for reasons eventually being revealed that he (along with Obito) killed his clan because Danzo fucked up his and Shunsui’s plan,
Itachi redemption was another instance of Uchica wank.
the war dragging out for thousands of chapters,
The war sucked hard.
Taka/Hebi doing nothing meaningful,
Sasuke groupies suck.
all the other Jinchuuriki’s being glossed over,
Besides B being a boss, the rest was squandered. Gaara got more character in thee Rock Lee spin off and all the others are unknowns. But them he couldn't handle the Konoha 11, more characters would be disasrous.
Hinata doing nothing after revealing her feelings to Naruto,
She won the bowl, that's more action than most of Kishimoto's females.
Obito and Madara getting the same power up chapters apart (which Naruto also gets),
Don't even remember what you are referring. Bless this. But i guess Harashima cells? The answer pretty much a bunch of things.
Madara being broken to the point even a powered up Naruto & Sasuke can’t stop him,
Uchiha wank to the maximum.
Naruto being able to heal Guy but not save his leg,
Ninja Jesus, don't need to explain shit.
Yamato being held hostage by branches,
Yama-who? You mean Kaido's son?
-
Naruto's world really was as shallow as a puddle. The story would have been better served if it was just divided in two like a red vs blue situation. Developing another nation like Konoha would have been much easier than introducing a ton of big and minor villages only to do nothing with them.
-
What they did with the Village Of Sound was worse than what they did with any of the other villages since that was founded by one of the early and central villains.
-
My cut-off point was Naruto getting to cheat with shadow clones to master his shuriken-rasengan. Dude had all that timeskip time training and basically came back with nothing so he we could watch him cheat-learn new stuff.
I get infinite more enjoyment out of watching the vast majority of fillers out of part 1 than I ever did out of pretty much everything in Shippuden. Seeing the squads and sand trio interacting more in non-canon missions is practically the entire appeal to the series to me anymore. I can mildly get some interest in rewatching the save Gaara arc, but after that I'm basically already done.
-
Having watched the whole thing in a fanmade filler free cut in the span of three months, I can say Sasuke assembling his dumb team up to the the start of the war was the absolute worst part of the series, and some of the worst storytelling I have seen in fiction. The war itself is so stupid that it's quite entertaining. Naruto the Last was garbage.
The filler wedding arc that ended Shipuden and was based on a light novel is unironically fantastic and heartwarming and is what Naruto should've always been (except add actual fights lol).

Yeah, the anime ended up finishing in a high note. It was cool how Iruka was the closest thing to a protagonist there.
One of the episodes was literally a Rock Lee's Springtime of Youth chapter in disguise.
-
Yeah world building is not Kishi's forte. I also enjoyed Boruto more when it was filler seeing what the parents are up to. The ongoing battle with this alien host guy is really uninteresting to me. It's basically an extended fight of the last Naruto arc.

Even Tenten was great in it.

Springtime Tenten is a top tier character.

I must know about the ghost neiji that came back to get buff.

Kishimoto should have sent Konoha 11 to other nations and have arcs around them, developing them and introducing other countries and their ninjas concurrently.
More than half of them did nothing significant in part 2.
And it is hilarious how naruto trains better on his own and learn more as compared to his 2 years with Jiraiya.
This series could have benefitted a lot if kishi was able to see the potential his characters have, instead of shoving them off to focus on some dudes we don't even care about.
Outside of Akatsuki, almost every new character that is not Konoha in part 2 have zero or even less relevance as compared to the 11 maybe except for Killer B who got nerfed and was pretty much useless during the war.
What a waste. -
Konoha 11 was a mistake. They were introduced during the chunin exams along participants of other nations, but because they were newly introduced they got the spotlight and that meant that the finalists were all konoha + sand brothers + sound guys (who were from konoha anyway, along with Orochimaru). All of that just to never use most of the konoha 11 again in the main story (filler apparently milked a lot out of them, but I skipped that).

ah yes Chad development into a pro wrestler was excellent
-
Create a world with almost endless potential, concentrate on Ninja Jesus and edge lord.
Yeah never really got me, i enjoyed the Zabuza arc though. -
Just like many authors and writers, Kishimoto clearly just threw a lot things in the story with no idea what to do with them after their introduction. The Zabuza arc was cool in big part because of some intriguing backstory on the Hidden Mist village where people were forced to kill each other to pass their exam. Zabuza also used to be one of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen which were hyped as a group composed of fighters of a high calibre. In the end, things were retconned, the Hidden Mist was never really explored and most of the swordsmen were already dead only to come back as lame zombies with no personality to serve as some cheap obstacles.

I really have nothing to add, I'm just posting to edge this thread closer to page 500.

sasuke's cool
….. -
I wonder if Sai ever introduces himself as part of team 7 to anyone
I genuinely enjoyed his presence he don't deserved to be a budget sasuke
This post is for Sai's waistline -
Kakashi for mvp of series

Don't you know? If you're a Mexican you're either a singer (or Mariachi), a wrestler, a soap opera star,or a gang member.
Sai is better than Sasuke in every possible metric.
Pepperidge Farm could've swore people didn't think too highly of Sai originally.
Ino clearly won the marriage war against Sakura.
Too bad their kid looks hella weird.
-
I actually like Ino more than Sakura and I'm glad she got Sai over absentee father.
Even her powers is better than punching things real hard.
….I'm just sad Lee never got someone.
Maybe him and Tenten didn't hook up because neji died.--- Update From New Post Merge ---

Just missing a cowboy hat or ukelele but you know, Kubo was a master of subtlety.

Considering Oda came up with King Taco, I don't think we can judge Kubo on this one.

Deep down we now Metal's mom is the Springtime of Youth.

Too bad their kid looks hella weird.I think originally they didn't, but we has a hella more part of team 7 than Sasuke ever was.
All the kid look weird being a copy+paste mix of their parents. The only with a unique design was Sarada, guess what an Uchiha gets Kishimoto's attention, what a notion. -
I'm just here for the 500th page. And after all these years, I can still safely say this about Naruto…
-
I know the Boruto anime is infamously bad but is the Boruto manga better than the median Naruto chapter? (Not a high bar I know)
-
From the few chapters I read of Boruto, I would say no. The characters are bland, we are yet again on a secret cabal lead by the space bunny clan against the world, nothing seems to fit well in the world building, technology is now somehow able do duplicate jutsu and make cyborgs equal to powerful ninjas.
-
Since Worldbuilding was a recent topic again…
-
It's always fun to see Naruto and Sasuke, who have reached godhood in terms of ninja powers, get punched in the face by another deadpan generic alien while waiting for their young lovechild to save the day.

It's the sequel nerf effect, more deadly than japanese flu or isekai trucks.

Since Worldbuilding was a recent topic again…
Didn´t expect him to refer to power ceiling almost solely in a vid about worldbuilding, but he is right of course. The fights quickly went from being creative within certain parameters to a measuring contest of who got the biggest explosions. I remember laughing really hard when Madara started dropping meteors, seemed kind of ridiculous of him to fight the alliance in hand to hand combat just a few moments before (though arguably it still provided visually).
Problem with wasting the potential started even with Chunin exams arc though, despite it being pretty good and i guess universally loved, only the second arc saw the introduction of many new characters from never before heard villages, instead of expanding the world for a while through episodic missions.
