Well there goes that. Still, the feeling I got was a run of the mill cartoon movie that is banking off the soundtrack being a crutch to cause emotion instead of an enhancement.

They used "the Boys are Back in Town" as far back as Toy story. And used it again in Toy Story 2. They changed it to "toys" but… Life Is A Highway for Cars. Cars 2 used a Weezer song. Inside Out used Aerosmith for one trailer and Boston for another. And over at Disney they used a whole bunch of straight up Elvis songs in Lilo and Stitch.
And Larger than Life is 22 years old. It's hardly a pop song at this point, it's practically an oldie.

Also double checked, the other trailers also have their own osts as part of the trailer playing in part of the trailer along with the songs playing in other parts of the trailer. This one is just Backstreet Boys.

The first two episodes of Monsters at Work are up. About as giggly and smile-inducing as you would expect out of a Monsters Inc. series. As the trailer indicated, it's more about Tyler and the MIFT group, but Mike and Sully are in there enough to satisfy. And Billy Crystal is still the best part.
And Larger than Life is 22 years old. It's hardly a pop song at this point, it's practically an oldie.

Monsters at Work was dull. Like, really dull.
While it was kind of nice to see Mike and Sully again, they weren't given much to do. Sully especially was just sort of there, and Mike's comedy schtick tended to get pretty old pretty quick. And all the new characters range from boring to straight up unlikable.
All the plotlines from each episode are very standard and cookie cutter. The only one I thought was kinda neat was the one where they brought back the Abominable (or Adorable as they call him) Snowman, which expands on his backstory a bit.
Also, here's a bit of a surprise at the end with it…
! All of it was technically a midquel, in that it took place before the final scene from the original Monsters Inc. Not that it really changes anything.
All in all, you can tell that this show was just a cashgrab and there was no real passion behind it. I have no idea if they plan on making a season 2, but if they do I won't be watching it unless they really turn the show around.And the lamb lies down on Broadway

Looks like they're keeping that psuedo claymation look they used for Luca for the faces. Trying to develop an in-house style that pushes them away a bit from what Disney is doing, I guess.

Her school tag shows it's set during the 2002-03 school year. It's definitely interesting that they have such a specific time frame in mind. I gotta catch myself from calling it recent since that's nearly 20 years ago…

And a quick check shows… that the Director/Writer, Chinese-Canadian Domee Shi, was born in 1989, which would make her 13 in 2002 just like the Chinese-Canadian protagonist of the movie. Even if that wasn't the case, any given year or time period has a feel unique in its own, well worth exploring.

Didn't expect the friends to learn so quickly. But thankfully keeps the old trope of "keeping the secret as long as possible" out of some of it. Mom in the last trailer was total Chinese mom, but here she seems a little less controlling, just worried. Like any mom would be. Waiting for the Tiger Mom to appear.

Every story about a girl who transforms is a metaphor for menstruation/becoming a woman.
And I think it's a definite appeal to all Millennial girls, so don't you DARE insult my Backstreet Boys. Although actually that's N'Sync, but I like them too.

Finally watched Luca. OMG, could a movie BE more cute? It didn't give me the gut punches that the best Pixar movies do, but I was smiling almost the whole time. Good ole Pixar.
Sorry, I didn't actually mean that as an insult against the Backstreet Boys. I love the hell out of them.

I get that it's a cool song, but does it really fit the movie? Sure, Buzz Lightyear is a star man, but does he want to come and meet us? Would he let all the children booghey? It's possible, but don't know. Either way, this movie can only be improved by the addition of talking cat.
I'm jesting but this will probably still be good. Pixar trailers always leave out the deep emotional parts.

Really dislike this trend of releasing Pixar films only on streaming and not in cinemas. It somehow gives the impression of them being only "second-class" films that don't deserve too much attention.

The only bright side I can see is that Encanto did well at the theater, but it exploded once it went on Disney+. Hopefully this will follow.

I don't think the Pixar films that premiered on Disney+ to date were even Premium releases but were instead just straight D+ releases. Unless I missed something, Turning Red seems unlikely to break that trend; if nothing else, Soul had a much larger, much longer media buildup before the D+ move than Turning Red got and still didn't get a Premium pricetag.

Lol, Spider-Man won't be on Disney+ for a long time. I think it's debuting on Starz, which is something of an, at least temporary, coup for them.

It's pretty clear Disney has no morals or ethics, aside from whatever regulations are imposed on them. They just go where the money is.
