Not sure if all toys r us are the same but I just learned the one I'm working at is getting more in on the 9th if anyone is still looking for them.
So check stores then for restock.

Still looking but no toys r us in my vicinity.
I think at this point I've resigned myself to the thing just falling on my lap randomly

There are 2 near me. Want me to go in and check for you? Do you have a preference for the Grey or the Red/Blue?
Best Buy is supposed to get some on the 9th also.

Not comfortable owing people for something so costly, particularly when economically I'm not in a position to know I can reliably pay back. Thanks though.
Peta just…just stop you're embarrassing yourselves.
So um
Are they ok with the genocidal treatment of animals we have in BotW?
Because I tend to bomb the crap out of every living being for meat

No, because those are wild animals.

Splatoon 2 and Arms direct incoming on wednesday
I guess that's cool in that both of those titles REALLY need release dates at this point just to prove to people there actually are games on the horizon. What I hope is that Splatoon releases sooner rather than later, though I don't see it launching earlier or at the same time as Arms just so that one game doesn't step on the other.
As a whole I'm still so meh about arms… it's like they made a fighting game with similar core mechanics as Pokken, but with less depth, less diversity and more motion controls. And no pokemon.

I heard you can play it with standard controls, so this won't be another Star Fox Zero. Still think it looks bland though.

You can, yes, they did say that. But if the whole game is made around the punching mechanic, then to me that's like getting into a DDR game but playing it with a controller.

I'd get Splatoon 2 since it's been SO long since I played the original. ARMS…..is a harder sell. Certainly has charm, though.
So that's a thing now apparently

Cloud, Bayonetta and corn amiibo release dates finally revealed
Bubsy is on Sonic?
About time for the Bayonetta amiibo.
Bubsy is on Sonic?
O_O
The Japanese direct also talked about Lady Layton, no fair, I'm interested in the game >_>
I thought it was a fine direct. I went expecting just Splatoon 2 and ARMS, and hey, got all of these games in the process. Nothing huge, but some stuff I could see myself picking up down the line. (Monopoly lmao)
July 21st is going to be hell for customers. Splatoon 2 PLUS six Smash amiibo?!
Blazing Star and Shock Troopers 2nd Squad is what got me the most of the Direct.
I love those games.
Are those round things what I think they are?

Friendly reminder that the West just got Curious Village like a year later. And not even gonna mention the next two games and the prequel series.
I think after all this time my love for the Amiibo has gone. I'll pick up a Corrin (female) and one of the Bayonetta but that's probably it. The only thing making me look at Cloud is that I have all of the others they released but Smash was so long ago I don't even play it anymore and tbh really don't care about FF7.
Games wise I'm also a bit 'meh' about them. I REALLY need to see what Nintendo are offering me for the online services to even consider Splatoon and Arms because I'm not planning on buying a game only to be locked out of half the game a few months down the line should I feel that the online services aren't worth it. Really enjoyed what I played of Splatoon 2 and Puyo Puyo Tetris too so hoping that the online service is worth picking these up over. (Although £35 for Tetris is a bit high too.)
Fate I'm happy to see. I got access to a Vita copy a few months back and it was ok enough, at least to tide me over until Koei start throwing the Warriors games at us (easily the biggest misstep not having the Berserk or one of the many others for or near launch here.) and Senran Kagura is always stupid fun (and I love that the most unique thing being done with the HD controller is boobs)
Monopoly and Minecraft I may pick up when more people pick up a switch because I can get those on pretty much anything right now so not throwing myself at it.
Hey Pikmin: Meh, getting flashbacks of Yoshi's Island 3DS and Chibi-Robo Zip: Lash so kinda do not want. Monster Hunter Stories I heard was kinda ok, I'm waiting for Monster Hunter on the Switch tbh. Fire Emblem, RPG Maker and Disgaea 5 I'm happy to pick up since I think I'll get enough use of them.
E3 is right around the corner, hopefully they're saving a bunch of stuff for that.
So much for the NES Classic NOT being a limited edition: http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/04/13/nintendo-discontinues-the-nes-classic-edition
Honestly, though, I can't blame them. The only reason people have been willing to pay a lot more than $60 for it is because of the scalpers hogging the majority of them. Nintendo should have just priced it at $100; if they tried to increase the price now, they'd just get bad press. Doesn't make it any less annoying: all I wanted was an NES controller, but looks like that won't happen.

I… wha... WHY?
I… wha... WHY?
Most likely, Nintendo's seen the $100-plus profit they're NOT making off each NES Classic and just gave up trying to meet the demand.
Discontinuing the NES classic means they get to safely push NES games on the Switch for 5 bucks a piece without stepping on their own toes.
I'm fairly certain it was mainly a way to get reasonable Christmas sales going in a year of no major first party title for the holidays.
Switch sales are at 906,000 in the US
Why would you cancel a product when you haven't even met INITITAL demand yet, and there's clearly a huge demand for it?
Are they worried about getting in the way of the Switch?
And after the news, scalper prices have jumped from a ridiculous 200$ to 350$+ instantly.
Or you know…people could do the smart thing and buy a retron or...gasp better yet an AVS with a flash cart? But what do I know?
shrug

There still seems to be a general confusion wherein people don't recognize that Nintendo is generally the worst to its fans of the Big Three.

It's not about getting a bootleg ROM hack edition. Its about getting the nice official package and showing that there is interest in that sort of thing and the upkeep of older games… not just from their store.
It was a cool little product, people wanted it... they decided to not make very many of them. Just like the amiibos.
It's a weird one. I mean this thing was stupidly easy to get here in terms of pre-orders. (Unlike say, The Fire Emblem Fates special editions) and could have gotten a handful. But once the news articles all picked up on it and the scalpers got out in full force it was almost impossible.
It's a huge shame but it feels like it's another in a long line of things that should have been distributed fairly but wasn't. Like the Amiibo, Like Fates Special Edition, Like the Xenoblade X limited edition, like the Project Zero physical version, Hyrule Warriors scarf etc etc etc. It's not like these things are overly rare, the issue is that they're locked behind second hand shops because the scalpers got to them first and bought all the stock
Shiiiiit. I should've bought it immediately when I saw my store stocked them.
I honestly think it's a dumb/insulting product, and it kind of amazes me that people (outside of the most avid collectors) are willing to pay even $60 for a crappy miniature replica of an NES with an unusable controller that comes with a fixed tiny subset of its library… but that said, it will never cease to baffle me how Nintendo is so uninterested in actually making money and giving people what they want (especially with merchandise). I mean maybe it is indeed related to them wanting to rip people off on VC instead? But who knows.

I really just wanted 2 NES controllers to use with my Wii U, and Nintendo couldn't even provide a reasonable supply of those.
They really need to get out of that mentality of everything being a collector's item. It's like they're mortified that everything they produce will be a failure, so they only make 10 of them to minimize losses. Then when people actually want them, they're unprepared to actually supply.
The business end of Nintendo is just easily its weakest component. Personally I'm extremely curious about how much of our supply is sacrificed in order to meet the Japanese market first, as well as how much of a hand Nintendo has in the distribution of its products, since it could also be a thing of retailers bottlenecking supply.
I can certainly see some places like Gamestop having a specific amount they get from Ninty and then distributing them in limited quantities to drive demand, and then when demand is high they get people to invest in bullshit bundles where they pair the console with bullshit people would have otherwise not even bought from them. Then again, if that happens, I'm pretty sure it's also a result of years now of Nintendo demonstrating how goddamn terrible they are at knowing what people want and constantly releasing highly conservative amounts of anything, and scalpers picking up on that and benefiting from the incompetence.
I mean, seriously, if you go to amazon or ebay, there's hundreds of switches out there in the market, new and ready to be sold, while retailers have zero at market price. It's some serious bullshit. Especially also because it drives people towards this idiotic pre-order culture where we have to get things BEFORE we know we want them, because otherwise it will be impossible to get them for months.
That's Nintendo for you. Great products, mind-blowingly stupid and backwards "business decisions."
Being the perpetually broke and apparently unemployable loser that I am, I was never able to afford an NES Mini whenever they got restocked. Looks like any last tiny slivers of hope have just completely evaporated now.

It drives the hardcore (modern) gamers towards that pre-order culture, but everyone else is driven out of the market entirely. Comic book speculation in the 80s and 90s nearly destroyed the comic collecting market, and video games are headed down that road.

Just get a USB NES controller and about 714 games.

Wait what? Are you saying that speculation of Nintendo hardware and collectibles is leading video game collection to destruction?
I agree with Foolio and think the NES Mini was lousy and I didn't see the appeal at all, but if people are willing to shell money out for it, then geez, give it to them.
I always feel like Nintendo is deathly afraid of having unsold product lying around, like they lack warehouse space or they see it as a personal failure or something. Like they found all those unsold copies of Other M to be so repugnant that they shuttered the Metroid franchise.
Nintendo still exists solely on the strength of their IPs, most other companies who run their business like Nintendo does would have gone under by now.
Wait what? Are you saying that speculation of Nintendo hardware and collectibles is leading video game collection to destruction?
Not just Nintendo; speculation on physical games themselves starts happening the instant something goes out of print, often without regard for how many copies exist or how likely a reprint is.
The digital supply of these games is infinite in almost all cases, so anyone who paid a hundred bucks for a copy of Pokemon X or Y during the Pokemon Go speculation boom made a very poor decision.
Not just Nintendo; speculation on physical games themselves starts happening the instant something goes out of print, often without regard for how many copies exist or how likely a reprint is.
But isn't that exactly what happens in any market involved with collectibles? I also don't feel there's comparison between comic and games, since for the most part comic production is far cheaper and as a result bad quality products flood the market to benefit from the speculation. Meanwhile, video game production is lengthy and expensive, and while collectibles tend to be limited in nature, that still ultimately doesn't affect the availability of the game itself. Not to mention that the cheap, shovelware games that do get made to benefit from booms oftentimes are, by virtue of being cheap, lacking in physical release, and their lack of quality often means there is less interest in their collection.
Which is really the thing about current times: for the most part, a physical copy is extraneous to the availability of the game itself, so there being a limit of physical copies for the most part doesn't harm access to the software. Hardware speculation is far more annoying, particularly with stuff that's locked to specific hardware, but for the most part people are STILL getting their hands on hardware and developers are in no way affected by these shortages, so content and production continues regardless.
The main case where I could see things being a problem is for games or copies of beta builds and demos from things created in the earlier days of gaming, since we have had instances of speculators/collectors buying those and then withholding access to them from actual museums and people who archive game history. And true, as a whole game historians also value physical materials such as promotion and magazines, in order to preserve the environment in which games existed (and some games like Startropics having gimmicks that incorporate physical objects), but to compare that impact of physical video-game related objects to comics (which existed in that time ONLY as physical objects) makes no sense to me
