I haven't even though about Saint Seiya since i was a kid and now you are ruining all my childhood memories w/ Yaoi!!! NOOOOOOO!!
Tiers of manga.

The author went a bit too far with the friendship stuff, so it seems some characters (especially Andromeda Shun) were really gay, and the effeminate face of some guys didn't help much.
OH MY Gosh, this. I tried really hard to get into this manga, but that dialogue is painful.
Also… her ( I think a she drew it) faces were drawn TERRIBLY. When reading a comic book, I care more about the feelings the images can invoke, and it's REALLY hard to get behind a manga with a face like one The Sea just posted with the guy tallking about beauty.
-
Shun was 14 or younger for most of the series, just saying what would the clad-in-pink 14years old would look in a war.
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

I've been further even more decided to use even go need to do look more as anyone can.
Can you really be far even as decided half as much to use go wish for that?
My guess is that when one really been far even as decided once to use even go want,
it is then that he has really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like.
It's just common sense. -

Tried to make it semi-comprehensible.

Well this is some dumb stuff.
Do something, Robby. -
off topic banter appears in short bursts in a lot of threads.
when the time comes to stop, all we need to do is get back on topic, rather than complaining.i've been checking out toriko over the last couple of weeks, and it makes me very hungry.
i quite like how things have been going so far, so i'm going to put it in one of my higher tiers. -

needs to be preserved for posterity and discussed at length. That's a riddle that may confuse us for centuries to come.

I think that's a parody related with the part where Gokuh enrages himself when Freezer talk shit about Kuririn.

Not really. It is a tired old meme from /v/ that has already been discussed to death in other places.
On topic: I recently read Blade of the Immortal. The art/story is pretty good, but the main character (girl) is rage inducingly stupid. I can't decide which tier it should go in.

She gets better.
She has the most character development of anyone in that manga.

But, hell. I'm Asian so I grew up loving Fujiko F. Fujio's works especially Mojacko (manga entitled Bokura), in which Mayumi Tanaka voiced one main character..
@Fanart: Is Giant really that big and muscled? Lol at Suneo.

It is exaggerated. No way an elementary student can be that big.
And his name is Takeshi Gouda. In Vietnam we call him Chaien.
BTW, I am reading Koike's Offered. The man is truly a master. -

Yeah, he's Takeshi Giant/Gian. Though his name here in the Philippines is the worst, "Damulag" which means Water Buffalo or slang of a huge slack person.

lemme see ….
I dont really like comparing across genres, because personally, i dont really think berserk and vagabond can be compared in content to an adventure manga like one piece or toriko.Their appeal, for me,is different. so....Shonen :-
Loved reading :- one piece , full metal alchemist, nausicaa of the valley of the wind
Great :- hunter x hunter,jojo's bizzare adventures,slam dunk,dragon ball,yotsubato,hikaru no go
Worth a read :- rurouni kenshin,beck,gintama,eyeshield 21,bakuman,gon
i started it when it was great but now =____= :- NARUTO
bleh :- fairy tail
Seinen
Epic :- ravages of time,vagabond,berserkgreat reading :- otoyomegatari,mushishi,blade of the immortal,pluto,monster,akira,shin angyo onshi,akagi,gunm
worth a read :-dorohedoro,planetes,parasyte,liar game,holy land,one outs
=_____= :- tokyo red hood

Does anyone know anything about Hiromu Arakawa, the creator of Fullmetal Alchemist's, new manga that's going to be in Weekly Shonen Sunday. I know it's called Silver Spoon and I've seen some pictures but I don't know anything about the story or if anyone has scanlated it.
Does anyone know anything about it? -
I'm surprised to see that Baccano! wasn't on most of these lists, since I've heard numerous positive reviews of it. Does anyone who's read it know what level/tier they would place it under, out of sheer curiosity?
-
Just so convenient that some of you are talking about Doraemon.
I just came across this one shot, and it's a pretty fascinating read.

PD: I'm becoming too much of a Taiyou Matsumoto admirer. But the man's work is so damn interesting. . .

Baccano! isn't a manga.
At least, if it is, it, like the anime, is also an adaptation of the light novel. Most people watched Baccano! as a series, and as far as ANIME go, it's in my top 10.
But I can't IMAGINE that the manga would be better than the anime was.

Ahh, that's right, it was a light novel; apparently, that seemed to have slipped my mind when I made that post, hm.
Nevertheless, thanks for the information and sharing what your thoughts on it happen to be! I was thinking of checking it out after watching through Durarara!!, another piece of work made by the same, original author, but wanted to know what others thought of it first. I suppose, with this additional nudge of positive reception, I shall give it a shot…thanks, once again.

I watched 7 episodes of Baccano! What I watched was pretty good, my favorite parts being whenever Ladd was killing people. At first I really didn't know what was going on, but as it progressed it did start to make more sense. I should really get back to watching it, it did seem to have a good cast from what I saw.
Edit: I have now watched every anime episode of Baccano! IT IS GLORIOUS! -
Baccano is truly a delight, especially the FUNi dub, which is a joy to listen to. I just recently finished the series and it's well worth getting into. I love how all the characters are such nutcases.
-
The only downside of Baccano is that it ends on a cliff hanger, after we're introduced to Grahm Specter.
Seriously what the hell! -
The thing to keep in mind, that often occurs with anime adaptations of this nature, is that viewers in Japan have the option to read the light novels and they are also the crowd kept in mind obviously. So many adaptations can wind up functioning more as advertisements for the native body of work than a standalone piece.
Baccano!'s situation is a bit of both. While it does in fact continue going on for a very long time chronologically in the novels, these stories are also told in a way that can stop, start, and just end whenever, due to the immortal nature of most of its cast and how so much of it is character-driven than plot-propelled.
I wouldn't call it a cliffhanger so much as it was a "I bet you know what happens after this!" as it's easy to tell what the characters in Baccano! are about. Ah, the advantages of an excessively pulp series!

I don't post in this thread because I don't like the idea of "tiering" manga. No offense.
This guy is the best. He owns 19,000 volumes manga, read all of them, and he doesn't go around classifying manga in some meaningless ranking.
http://ikesanfromfrneore.blog64.fc2.com/blog-entry-4467.html
I love this guy's site. He reads insane amounts of manga indiscriminately, reviews countless ongoing series every week, and doesn't come off as an pessimistic elitist who pretends they enjoy a classier selection of masterpieces.
I can relate to his affection for manga, but alas, I don't own even come close to this guy's collection.
If I stayed in Japan my whole life, I would have though. When I moved out, I had collection of several thousand volumes of manga, which I gave all to my relatives.
Now I've gained what amounts to maybe close to half of what I used to have. If I could casually travel to those clusterfuck of used bookstores near Umeda again, I'd be drowning in manga like this guy.
But alas, it's really hard to pack your suitcase full of manga and travel back. Hell I've had trips where I threw away my clothes (or give them to relatives in Japan) so I could fit more manga in my suitcase. -
I don't think that guy is legit, his bleach fake manga has too many words in them.

same problem here :(
can anyone tell me how beelzebub and toriko are doing as series, obviously there still pretty new so I don't expect them to be best sellers, but are they doing well compared to lets say something like Bleach when it was at their point???
-
It's hard finding old numbers.
Bleach 15 (2005) 780,000+ print (over the course of the year)
Toriko 11 (2010) 213,269
Toriko 14 (2011) 175,851 (just released last month)Keep in mind that Bleach figures are the initial print count, so the actual sales is less.
But not less enough to gap the huge difference there…However, Toriko's total sales is pretty high. Meaning, a lot of new readers are probably picking up the early volumes right now.
Also Toriko had a late start on getting animated as well.
Since the anime just started on a Sunday morning time slot, these numbers may skyrocket soon.As for 2010, according to oricon:

Finished with Yuu yuu Hakusho manga. Much better than the anime, IMO. Don't know where else to post about this (didn't find a YYH thread, and I didn't want to post on the HxH thread or people's hopes would have been unnecesarily raised). Really liked it, the more it advances, the better it becomes, climaxing on the Chapter Black Arc, which is a fucking masterpiece. The Makai Arc ain't half bad, and curiously, I really liked those aftermath chapters right untill the end. The Mukuro-Hiei chapter grabbed me by the balls. It was hardcore. VERY hardcore. The ending was truly rushed, but I don't care, it was good nontheless.
Just one thing that pissed me off, and that is also a Dragonball problem: base-leveling after a new "threat" appears. First, Toguro is like an unpenetrable wall of power everyone is fucking afraid of. By the time Sensui appears, we know Toguro was a fucking "upper B demon", while Sensui got to "lower S level". Meaning, Toguro equals SHIT in the great scheme of things. But here's the shocker: even then, Sensui could be considered SHIT by Demon world standards. Solution? Everyone trains for 6 miserable months, and by then, not only Hiei and Kurama dwarve Sensui's strength (the guy who effortlesly killed Yusuke months ago), but enormously weak people like Shishiwakamaru, Touya or Suzuki (who himself admited he wasn't a good fighter) got to the point that Sensui meant shit to their power. Togashi even went to the extreme of giving numbers, which is allways a big mistake: someone at 36k is a lot above Sensui's strength. All those weak-asses got above 100k. Training 6 months with Genkai.
Apart from it, I loved it. I just forget about this little thing buggering me.
So, not having a perfectly clear tier list yet, but I can tell that Dragon Ball, One Piece, Toriko, Slam Dunk, Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer, HxH, YYH, JJBA and even Eyeshield 21 are up there in the Shounen departement. Oh, and first half of First of the North Star. Yet to read Full Metal Alchemist.
Seinen is there with Nausicaa proudly on top, and Berserk closely following. Then, No. 5, Domu and Zero. Hoping to read Phoenix, Lone Wolf and Cub and many others.(Admins: if this is not in the proper thread, feel free to either re-place it, or delete it.)
