I'm going to ignore that chibi nightmare above.
What pisses me off the most about this ending to the arc is we realize we literally got nothing after five years of pointless battles. Nada. Zilch.
I mean, even in Naruto, where every arc deals with either finding Sasuke or an attack on the Leaf Village, we at least get some result that changes the characters and the story, whether you like it or not. Same with Fairy Tail.
But with Bleach, point A does not connect with point Z. Let me run through a list of things that were never touched on or explained in the slightest, including his many screw ups:
The King's Key: Despite Ichigo fighting Aizen to save Karakura, we never get a clear explanation as to what Aizen hopes to accomplish by creating the King's Key.
Espada: They were nothing but fodder in the end, and the fact that they literally served no purpose in the story whatsoever, because Aizen went and acted on his own anyway, shows just how pointless they all were, even if I liked a lot of them.
Orihime's powers: Despite great build up in SS and most of the stuff in Hueco Mundo, Orihime serves no purpose in anything. Hell, she didn't even have a hand in reviving anyone like we all predicted.
Uryu, Chad and Renji: Screwed over so many times in this arc. Like many other characters I'll list, Kubo really took their characters from being badass to losers who can't do a damn thing. I mean Uryu did more than the other two, but he was still useless against Ulquiorra.
Rukia: While she got better treatment than the others and had a little development with Kaien, her "goodbye" to Ichigo held no purpose, especially with the fact that this entire arc started with a focus on Orihime, which also got no conclusion. The anime will probably make this scene a little better with flashbacks and music, but Kubo should be able to pull it off by himself.
Gin and Tousen: Both screwed royally and their fights overall were terribly executed. And especially for Gin, we got no motive or explanation for what his purpose was.
Squad 11: Why was it that Ikkaku and Yumichika played no part in the final battles against the Espada? Yumichika couldn't have been unconscious that whole time because of one weak little hado Izuru cast. And Ikkaku had all this build up like he was going to have some character development and it was all dropped.
Momo: I feel she suffered among the worst when it comes to poor character execution. The reason many people dislike her is because of how she was written into the story without Kubo ever allowing her to prove herself with her expertise at Hado. She was brought back and didn't even win her fight, and then with no explanation was magically switched with Aizen and we never even figured out why Ichigo didn't try to interfere.
Ichigo's "training": Not only was all of the crap with his "final getsugo" wasted time, but I really don't get why Kubo felt the need to change Zangetsu's design in the first place. And we never even got any explanation as to what his attack actually does.
Aizen: No need to go into what made this motherfucker into the piece of shit he is, but what bugged me the most is he really got no backstory or motivation whatsoever. Kubo did have a little nice speech going about wanting to change the order of the world, but it never got anywhere due to poor execution.
Nel: Why introduce a character, force us to like her, and then drop her off the face of the earth. Makes no sense…
Yammy fight off scene: yeah...
And finally, one of the things that pissed me off the most is that we only got one chapter that rushed the end of the arc with no explanations or anything. Why couldn't we get aftermath chapters showing us how everyone was affected by the battle? We never even got to see how most of the people who got injured were doing.
And about Ichigo's goodbye, Renji wasn't even there. And Ichigo showed no remorse to any of it.
Ugh, onto part 2 I guess.
