loved Franky in this chapter he was suuuuuuuuuuuuuuper
-
I disagree with the Nami part. That was a pain to read through.
So that's where Ivotas goes to voice his displeasure with One Piece lol.
This was just one of those chaps you don't really wait a whole week lookin forward to, more of a "I missed a few chaps so I'll catch up" catching up which ends at like chapter 597.
-
@Sea:
I think this will make me look bad to some certain people but I will post anyway. This is Ivotas's post on facebook.
I don't think Ivotas would be pleased if he sees I do this but, well, sorry Ivotas, I want your point to be discussed.
lolllllllllllllll
-
Sea, leak us Ivotas opinion spoilers on the regular.
-
I really didn't mind the Zoro and Mihawk part. What golden rule says that they can't see eachother before they get serious and duel? They aren't getting married here people.
If you wanna talk about being anti-climactic, I feel that them fighting would be waaaay more of a let down at this point. It wouldn't even fit.
Zoro is still weakened, and his primary focus (like every strawhat right now) is to get back together, and more importantly get back to Luffy.
The fact that Mihawk is being so casual with Zoro is just the type of guy he seems to be. He goes and visits Shanks, a former rival, with no intentions of fighting anyone. Yes I know what he said about his arm, but he seemed more interested in chatting. For such a solitary guy, Mihawk appears to care a deal about the going ons of the "ages"
Mihawk seems like he looks for a reason to seriously duel with someone. If zoro just straight out attacked him, I doubt Mihawk would seriously respond right now.
-
Honestly I partly agree with Ivotas about Mihawk.
I think the conversation was fine, and I liked how casual Mihawk was about it all.
But we should have seen the moment Zoro first saw him. -
oh, seeing how he reacted?
-
I don't get what people are complaining about. I enjoyed the chapter myself.
It served it's purpose VERY well. Just like Ace was paramount for Luffy, Luffy is paramount for the crew over everything else. That was tremendously reinforced here and i love it. The Chapter isn't about Zoro vs Mihawk, forgot about Mihawk, he isn't important right now. It's about how Zoro cares more about Luffy and the crew then he does his dream. The same is true for the rest of the crew. The chapter is reinforcing the fact that the crew really is a family, when family is what Luffy needs most. Luffy needs the crew at his lowest point, and the crew needs to be there for him at that point like he would be for them.
This was a great chapter. Not everything needs to be "epic".
-
Mihawk always struck me as a somewhat serious and casual guy all in one. His choice in friends shows this. If he deems Zoro not fit for a duel at present, why would he waste possible future pleasures of fighting a real duel with Zoro at his prime by beating down a already tired, injured, and distracted Zoro now?
Although the mandrill part gave me a big WTF. And Zoro is being a stubborn fool right now, which doesn't help his captain any. But such is his character…
Nami's part still bugs me. The weather wizards seem kind and have been helpful. She is in a hurry to go after Luffy, but can't she ask for help first and steal later? If they don't want her running off with their research, why show her the tricks in the first place?
-
I was also quite disappointed with the casual nature of Zoro and Mihawk. As pseudo-ghost-Ivotas has communicated, this is not the kind of dynamic the two should have! Zoro's dream is to defeat the man and become the strongest swordsman in the world! The last time Zoro met him, he fought for that dream, was willing to die when he could not achieve it and was ultimately reduced to tears in his pledge never to lose again. They shouldn't meet again and idly chat about the history of an island. HOPEFULLY there was a more intense moment when Mihawk first appeared before Zoro. It's true that they shouldn't fight now, but at least talk like the badass-Oda-swordsmen that you are…
Other parts were fine though. Franky's face next to that mushroom cloud was absolutely hilarious.
-
oh, seeing how he reacted?
Yeah… that would have been nice. Definitely a place for a few dons to occur.
But we'll probably never see those in-between sections (besides what Toei makes up), because the style of the storytelling in these SH scenes is pretty clearly "show them a few weeks after the last time we saw them and have someone explain the exposition that occurred since then in heresay/flashback form." And having flashbacks later on to the fill in the gaps would seem to me an even greater blunder than not showing the material now (not that I think it's so bad. Besides Zoro encountering Mihawk, everyone else's apparent off-panel action sounds fairly mundane).In other news, Nami and Brooke's parts were uninspired, whereas Franky's, as others have said repeatedly, gives us ample hope for the long-awaited upgrades, which is by no means a bad thing.
-
It was an awesome chapter. Why does Ivotas think Zoro's part of the story was underwhelming? I thought it was well done. of course Zoro isn't interested in Mihawk right now!! it's because Zoro's only concern is to get back to Luffy. He has more important things on his mind! he's already shown us that he would throw away his dreams for the sake of his captain. so can any of you really picture him saying "well screw it, Luffy can wait"?
and how can you not love Franky blowing up the lab? any reasonable person ought to be able to figure out that the thumbs up was for comedic effect, but apparently people can be incredibly anal about jokes too. I won't lie, Nami's scene wasn't the greatest and sure Brook got captured easily, but there are so many interesting directions that could take.
Also, Doflamingo's a sadistic bastard who seems to take pleasure in killing things. Just saying. :ninja:
-
I liked most of this chapter. Brook's part felt weakest to me, and with Franky I was hoping that he'd use Vegapunk's technology to upgrade his body. Now THAT would be something.
Also, we see Akianu's hair and tattoo, unless you want to debate with the "non-story cover pages aren't canon" crap.

I agree with pretty much all of this, and I think it's also because Zoro isn't strong enough yet. Sure, Zoro has come a long, long ways since their last duel, but I feel he has quite a ways to go.
Or, maybe that's not the case. If it isn't, it would amaze me that Zoro is wanting to get to Luffy as soon as possible, while Mihawk is still on the island, so Zoro could fight Mihawk (unless he's using the reasoning in my previous paragraph), but instead he wants to aid his captain. This reason why I find this amusing is because I distinctly remember that when Zoro finally agreed to join Luffy, he said to Luffy that if he (luffy) were to ever get in the way of his (Zoro's) dreams, he would have Luffy commit suicide. And as of now, he's pretty much busted his balls for Luffy (the aftermath of Thriller Bark with Kuma and Zoro), and he's pretty much put Luffy as his #1 priority.
I STILL get goosebumps when I think of that chapter where Zoro took all of that pain that Kuma dealt on him. Zoro's character has come a long ways just as much as his skill has.
So, yeah. Oda's a good author alright.
-

Like Nami said, She's a thief and a pirate, what do you expect? When she learned of the trouble Luffy was in of course her natural instinct is to steal what she needs to get to him.
-
@Mr.:
Also, we see Akianu's hair and tattoo, unless you want to debate with the "non-story cover pages aren't canon" crap.
Wut. I think most would agree that the idea of Akainu and Kizaru living together in a traditional Japanese-style home, wearing yukatas and cultivating bonsai in the canon world of the story is complete nonsense, but any distinct non-clothing character design elements that Oda himself draws is obviously "canon" (such as hidden hair styles and tattoos). Like with the WG and Moria's death, why would we be intentionally misled about a design choice if it weren't "real"? (not saying that you're making this argument, just responding)
-
@Dan:
Like Nami said, She's a thief and a pirate, what do you expect? When she learned of the trouble Luffy was in of course her natural instinct is to steal what she needs to get to him.
But she has also shown great generosity to those she considers friends. I can't imagine the current Nami stealing important things from her fellow villagers, Lola, or Camie. And she has met Camie for only how long?
Haredas doesn't seem to know about the circumstances behind her leaving when the other wizards called him over. If Oda explains later that Nami first went to Haredas for help, and then turned to stealing when that didn't work out for whatever reason, then fine. Otherwise, I'd thought Nami has learned to rely a bit on friends now after her journey.
-
I did like Mihawk's line, which I think a lot of people over-looked, that the challenge of the apes would be good for someone like Zoro, for someone "conceited" I think was the language on mangastream. Basically, it'll help put him in his place and create some modesty in him, just as Luffy had to face that sort of modesty of being weak.
-
Zoro's dream is to defeat the man and become the strongest swordsman in the world!
Which is superseded by his loyalty to Luffy and his desire to see Luffy find One Piece.
I used to wonder what would happen if Luffy did get into Zoro's way of becoming the best. Would they fight? But then Oda addressed that quite clearly with Thriller Bark.
-
Sea, you just want JERK DISEASE to rip Ivota's face off, don't you?´
Admit it -

You have some rereading to do my friend. Nami did steal from the people of her village, and she did steal from the people of Skypiea. She obviously has no problem with taking a few things from people she considers friends. And again, she's a PIRATE and a THIEF. "CAT BURGLAR" Nami. It' always been and is always going to be this way.
-
Sea, you just want JERK DISEASE to rip Ivota's face off, don't you?´
Admit itWRONG.
I am a man who fights with honor. A prideful warrior. I don't borrow other people's logic to back up my point.
Besides, I am Ivotas's friend.Okay folks, here is my thought about the chapter.
About the problem of how Oda executing Mihawk meeting Zoro before their final duel.
I think the relationship between Zoro and Mihawk is both epic and casual. It is totally different from Luffy and Blackbeard relationship.
Let's analyze a bit. Blackbeard is like the opposite of Luffy, in many way. Luffy despise him (I think Luffy may have some little sympathy and respect for his ideal about dream though). The confrontation between them is, of course, epic, as it has to be. They stand for different things, yet have some similarity. To destroy each other is the only way for them. It is like, the two opposite force in uinerse fight each other. A fight in which only the winner survive. Which is why it has to be epic, has to be ferocious.Mihawk and Zoro, in the other hand, have absolute respect for each other. There is almost no difference in their ideal, their thought about the path of humanity and of swordsmanship. The difference between them is simply the difference between two honorable individuals, as everyone is different. So, you can say, Mihawk consider his respectable and honorable rival a friend, and really care for that friend. Like two rivals in a race to the ultimate strength-utmost swordsmanship, respect and are willing to help each other to make progress.
Zoro and Mihawk both want to appear to be tough guys, thus don’t show much emotion, or obvious care for each other. Respect means no pity shown.
I think Oda did a good deal with it. It is just that if would be better if he could have showed us the scene when they first remeet each other.
About Nami part. To me it, along with Franky’s part, is the best of the chapter.
I was seriously emotionally affectted when she is shown crying first time. But slight doubt that she look so pretty while crying, which isn’t Oda’s usual. Then she turning out to be tricking them almost caught me off guard. That is Nami. She always try to appear to be a tough, immoral bitch, and hide her soft heart. “You are still fake crying?!!!”. That was really a nice touch. Not something so special, but still touched me greatly. She could have kindly asked them for help, but she chose to steal. Chose to look bad. Chose to be cold-hearted, sly bastard in others' eyes. As she did when she left the village to join the Straw hat. Those who really love her will understand the true meaning behind that action, and accept it as a funny part of her personality. Oda is still in track of his characters’ personalities. Which is nice. I always love to see how Nami try to hide her weak side, how she doesn't want others to know she is seriously crying.
The Brook’s part is the weakest to me, still got me some good laugh. I was confused in Franky’s part at first, but it was really epically hilarious.
@JERK:
Sea, leak us Ivotas opinion spoilers on the regular.
No, I won't.

^^^
Why should he have shown the part where the first met again though? That has nothing to do with what he was trying to say with this chapter.
It's just want what the fanboys want. And there is nothing worse then a fanboy scorned.
-
about time the chapter came out.. they've been slacking all week..
-
Overall, I liked everyone's scenes so far; the sense of camaraderie hits home pretty well.
The only one that I thought was a little disjointed was Franky's. I mean, does he know what's going on in the world or what happened to Luffy? Because his story didn't seem as focused on reuniting. I'm not bagging on him either, I just want to know if he's aware of the situation.

Damn straight! Those people have a responsibility to satisfy us!

I know. I was simply making more of a humor statement about how someone once was trying to tell us that the cover stories were canon (even when they weren't mini stories like Django's, Ace's, Buggy's, etc.), and tried telling us that Zoro and Chopper were re-united since they were on a cover.
But hey, we know Akainu's hair style AND his awesome tattoo design (bigger than I thought!), so let's commence about it! (^0^)/

@JERK:
Honestly I partly agree with Ivotas about Mihawk.
I think the conversation was fine, and I liked how casual Mihawk was about it all.
But we should have seen the moment Zoro first saw him.Whats with you today? Either you met a new girl or people have been saying less stupid things lately.
Pretty good chapter. I too at first was a bit underwhelmed with how Zoro and Mihawk interacted, but then I thought, oh well it's not as if this was their first encounter on the island. And both of them not uttering a word about the rematch is actually pretty darn cool.
Nami's was awesome, great to see her stealing things that will make her more powerful in what seems every aspect. I believe a weatherball is used to negate weather affects from the user. As in if Nami made a tornado she would be free of it's wrath even if she stood right next to it. From episode 418 I believe.
Franky oh yeah! People seemed to worry after the CP9 arc that Franky did not seem as relevant as before. This is some major shnitzel in the One Piece world and for us. Vegapunks lab, Franky looking through his documents, then destroying it all! Not only that but now the whole world is going to know about it. HQ already has the intel, so you know Franky's bounty is going up, and this incident is going to affect the world majorly some how. Glad it was Franky, he needed that spot light again!
Brook was ok, didn't care for it too much. I'll just wait to see where it goes.
Now if Ivotas gets mad that his Facebook post got posted here then too bad. If you don't want people to know things, then keep you business off line!

She obviously has no problem with taking a few things from people she considers friends. And again, she's a PIRATE and a THIEF. "CAT BURGLAR" Nami. It' always been and is always going to be this way.
She first stole from her village books as child, and was reprimanded for it. Later when she ran away with the villagers' wallets, she left her entire fortune, collected over the years, with them. When they took the gold from Skypiea, it was in the rush of adventure, their objectives of romance and riches achieved.
Now she has an urgent goal to reach. It would be easier to try cooperating with the man who took her in before inciting anger among the local masses, which could delay her even more. Unless without Luffy's presence, she fell back to her old habits of working solo, trust no strangers, and trouble no friends again, which is somewhat depressing.
-
Stealing a few things from the weather people is basically the exact same thing as taking the villagers wallets while leaving the fortune behind. In both cases, no one is going to be hurtin'.
And how would it be easier to cooperate with a bunch of old men? The easiest and most natural thing for Nami would be to steal what she needs, and there's nothing depressing or unexpected about that.
-
about time the chapter came out.. they've been slacking all week..
Slacking? Actually, they made a Twitter update on Wednesday saying that the guy that gets them the raw pages was dealing with some personal issues.
-
I just realized Nami's bounty could go up a bit after this. I wonder if these weather scientists are involved with the WG in some way.
-

Not so. She knew the villagers well. She left a greater compensation behind.
She is only truly familiar with one old man on that entire island from what we have seen. She took off with what the island's society regards as important trade secrets.
She doesn't need to cooperate with a bunch of old men. She only really needs Hareda to help her. It was the path of least resistance for Nami to take what she needs, but the wizards did manage to catch her. What if her tears and pleas weren't enough? What if she got herself into a situation where her talents won't help her easily escape?
Nami's greatest growth in this series is her growing compacity to trust and rely on other people instead of taking all the burden and pain onto herself, and the one whom she trusts and relies on the most is Luffy. I am glad Luffy seem to have rebounded somewhat in the latest chapters. Not that it will ever happen in One Piece, but if Luffy turned emo and insecure ala Ace, I dread to think the effect it would have on Nami, on the entire crew.
-
Ugh, this is stupid. I'm done talking to you about this. You have an opinion (an ill-formed one) and i'm not going to change it.
-

Maybe, but i doubt it. U get a bounty if someone reports ur actions to the marines, or the marines themselves notice it. So far the only ones of the missing crew that have a chance for a bounty raise is Franky, since he blew up Vegapunk's lab and there are marines there to report it. Ussopp hasn't done anything, and even if he does I don't think Heracles is going to report anything. Chopper is obvious, Zoro as well, Nami and brooke remains to be seen. We'll see about Sanji and Robin next week, though I doubt about them getting any bounty increase

Such a great chapter:
- Mihawk & Zoro
- Fighting Baboons
- Nami
- Franky is SUPAAA~ hilarious
- Brook is funny as usual
Honestly, it's really refreshing to see the others again. I hope they are reuniting fast. Even when I liked the whole AL/ID/War chapters, I have enough of the one man show.
And I do like Franky a lot more after this chapter!
-
Good chaper but not impressive.
Its time for the people to understand how epic was the war and how the war's characters are superior to the SH. -
@Dan:

[hide]@Chapter:
Nami: That's right! I'm a thief who only steals from pirates!
Nami: HOW RUDE!! I already told you that I ONLY steal from PIRATES!!
@Chapter:
Gen: What?! She's leaving ALL the money?! All 100,000,000 berries?
Doctor: She's taking off without any money? Nami risked her LIFE for that dough…
Nojiko: She'll steal more. She said she was fine... I told her just to take a little, but she wouldn't hear it. You know how stubborn she is.
Gen: That idiot... We still have so much yet to thank her for...
Villagers: Stop, Nacchan!!! At least let us tell you how grateful we are!!!
Nami: (lift)
Villagers: What the-?!! My wallet's gone!!
Nami: Stay safe, everyone. (smirk)
All: You little ASSHOLE!!!!
Villagers: You incorrigible brat!!!
Villagers: You can come back anytime, if you feel like returning it!!!
@Chapter:
Luffy: {We're gonna steal the gold and take off…} (shhhh)
Nami: {What?! There's gold?!}
[/hide]Not really, no. We're talking a core personality trait of hers. The only times we've seen her steal from non-criminals were exceptions to the rule: Cocoyashi as a gag farewell to kill the tension and give her a reason to come visit them someday, not to mention her wealth left behind; Skypiea where the gold was largely unclaimed, Nami didn't know it still existed, and it was intended for them anyway; lastly Enies Lobby where the key was from the enemy and for Robin's cuffs. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong or missing something, but I believe this would be a first for her to genuinely steal something from someone who didn't deserve it (twice!), doesn't want it taken and had no intentions of giving it, and is not better off for it in any way. While it might be a setup for her to correct a wrong she is doing (like Franky blowing up the island), her current actions are a stark contrast to her initial view of stealing and piracy. She's basically everything she always hated about pirates right now.
-
To me it is just that she doesn't want people to think she is kind.
-
But like I said yesterday… This chapter showed more or less that the anime shit wan't canon
-
yes he's very aware he even mentioned it in the chapter..
Ah, probably wasn't attentive enough then.
-
But like I said yesterday… This chapter showed more or less that the anime shit wan't canon
my guess is some bits are canon (like usopps and zoros) but some bits were changed in order to make episodes out of it (franky) so far the only person so far to be proved not canon is frankys because in the anime he has that kid with him and he's dressed posh. Evrything else in that episode could have happened though in the manga
-
We shouldn't blame the anime…
They give us good data before that anime, for example with Usopp Giant Plants or Zoro's Shadow_s_, not just a single rival.I guess we'll see Robin in a ship, maybe with Dragon, traveling to Shabondy, and Sanji running away and crashing with Ivankov
-
I wanna see Kaido, I bet he will have WB level powers and Croc's level mouth.
-
is franky dead =(?
-
Zoro and Mihawk are professional rivals, but there's no actual animosity between them. Its not like Mihawk killed Zoro's father or anything. They sealed a bargain when they met on the Baratie. That Zoro would not lose to another swordsman, and would one day come and defeat Mihawk.
Mihawk looks forward to it, and when Zoro declares that he thinks he's ready and they meet face to face, that will be that. (And no doubt, when that day comes, Mihawk can just look at him, or sense the outpouring of ambition, and know he's ready.)
Plus, Mihawk was just impressed by Luffy during the war. He's got to be contemplating on his presence and goal as well, including the fact that he just might reach it.
