Yeah, you've pretty much outlined my earlier stance in your post. I thought that there were some good directions her character could be taken in, given her apparent growing interest in Luffy and being the only one to stand up for him, and compared to the names everyone else was throwing around in the thread, I could actually imagine her as a part of and interacting with the crew (plus I was amused at her semblence to a certain Go Nagai heroine).
But she barely got any billing after Marineford and the related events was settled, so that ship has sailed unless Oda wants to pull a big ''Gotcha!'' moment, but that would feel very out of place right now. It's time to move on. She'll live on in Luffy's Jerry Seinfeld shirt.
That's the thing with dealing with Oda's large and diverse cast; there are a lot of potentially interesting characters that could be expanded upon, but that doesn't always happen.
