i'm hoping for the new crewmate to be a student from the fishman karate dojo.
Ideally, the guy would be above newbie level, but not master level.and here's a setup that might work.
this particular fishman may have been bullied or shunned by the rest of his fellow students, because he openly stated that he doesn't hate humans.
By joining the straw hats he would possibly:
- be happy to bond and be friends with humans after spending so long being ridiculed for liking them.
- take a step towards a dream? (something like: "see the world, get stronger in the process, and then become a master of fishman karate")
i'm just rambling though.
-
I would actually prefer if they were a stereotypical fishman in a way, but decides not to hate humans any more after interaction with Luffy.
-
A strong feeling, Hoodie Jones
and
A strong assurance, Caribou

I have a strong feeling you're wrong, and a strong assurance you'll be shortly thread banned.

That sounds great but to get more into this, this fishman perhaps doesn't hate people because he was once rescued by one which is too much for him to actually tell his peers. Perhaps he is not open about his fondness for humans but he'll show it when the SH's are in peril and he helps them out which causes him to become an outcast because the hate against humans runs deep with his race. That would give him all the more reason to go with the SH's.
But this is just me rambling XD

i didn't mean "master level" like that.
i'm saying that he should be a really good fighter, but with a lot more room for improvement.the strawhats aren't masters yet, but they're definitely out of the "newbie" group now. they're in the happy middle ground.
that's where i'm saying the fishman should be. strong but not too strong.Jimbei is a master of fishman karate, and some people say that he's too strong to join the crew. there shouldn't be double standards lol.
@flandrian15: thanks! (for saying it sounds great lol)

Once you get to master level you can start to invent your own moves. There is still room for improvement at "master level."

definitely true, didn't think of it that way.

Well whoever it is, we'll know when a chapter ends by going into a flashback.
-
i think Hyouzou will be the next nakama
-
All bets on Van Der Decken.
-
I don't think a captain will leave their crew to join the SHs, or any member of an already existing pirate crew for that matter, unless it is disassembled or he or she left, beforehand due to unrelated circumstances.
-
Hodi wont be the next crew member. He's a drugged up Arlong who is going to serve as one of the main villains in this arc along with Vander Decken, this is being foreshadowed in the manga by displaying the ruthlessness of Hodi against those fodder pirates, and Decken's status as an outsider, stalker creep. Neither are SH material.
Caribou was DQ'ed the moment he vuried the Fakehats alive, probably earlier, but there is no redeemable quality to him, and on a purely aesthetic level, you want to see that face each week?
Mermaid princess no. More chance that King Neptune will descend from his mighty throne and become subservient to Luffy. There's even more chance that Hoe will join, heck, the crew position of ship Laboon hasn't been filled yet, right? :p
The only real possibility in this arc so far is Jinbe, and it all comes down to how he is reintroduced to the story.
I know some people who know some people who still think Hancock will join the SH's in the New World, should I even go there? XD
-
I don't think that Hodi Jones will be the main villain. The story has become far more complicated with the introduction of fishman discrimination and slavery to have something as simple as Arlong on Steroids as the main villain like in East Blue. Oda can't just simply make it fishmen supremacists vs. good humans once again.
Since I'm sure FI will be a long and serious arc where slavery will be a very strong theme, I don't see Decken being the main villain either. He doesn't seem serious or powerful enough.

Technically Franky was a leader a of a pretty large crew, though they weren't pirates, and most of the Straw Hats have left a lifestyle that they were pretty settled into to join Luffy. If Decken turns out to not be another Caribou, then I feel like he has a decent chance.
-
Shirahoshi has a dream, to see the sun and the world. So she is going to join.

VDD is literally too ugly to join SHs. I've seen pictures now. Wow. Not even a mother could love it, he's just too weird looking for readers to be able to emphasize with.
-
She wants to go up where they walk? Up where they run? Up where they stay all day in the sun?
I think it's way too early to consider anything about her joining. Sure, we have one hint of her wanting to go on adventures and see the sun, but she could easily do that in any way. Remember, this isn't the first princess we've dealt with.
Would I like her to join? Sure, she seems like a fun kid. But there is not enough to base any guess.
I will say one thing. I almost thought that Luffy was going to ask her to join his crew when he was offering to take her to see the sun.
-
The only shot Vander Decken has to join would be if Hodi betrayed him and Decken suddenly became a good guy. Scene goes like this:
–
le Ryuuguu Palace destructionVDD: Wait! Don't kill Shirahoshi! That wasn't part of our agreement!
HJ: Death to all these punks, we fishmen rule!
VDD: I won't let you kill her!! I think?!However, this scenario is rather unlikely. We'll see what Oda does.
-
Shira is just gonna be another person who enjoys the changes that Luffy brings.
I don't think she will join, but if she does..hey it's the match to San Juan Wolfe
-

After reading the chapter i'm starting to agree with you. He also has one of those unusual "villain' laughs, which works against him.

Shira who looks roughly half the size of a giant vs San Juan Wolf who is.. well Oars JR was what, 3 giants? And SJW was like twice the size of Oars if not more?
Yeah so SJW is like 12 times bigger than Shira. So you know what?
I'm gonna assume you were joking and move on with my life.

We've only seen Shira sitting down, never standing up. She may very well be close to the size of Oars.

I don't believe that Shira is going to join simply because; how the fuck are they going to feed her on a routine basis and still have enough food for themselves?
-
sabo will be the next nakama =p
-
I say Princess Mermaid ate a fruit that can make her grow or shrink than that'd solve that. I honestly can't see her that way all her life, I mean come on. Plus her wanting to see the world seems like the perfect reason to join the crew. Guess will see at the end of the saga
-
@ <nico:< small="">> Mermaid princess won't join. Name isn't simple enough. Not very catchy. Simple as that.
Wow, you actually picked up a point that Luffy mentions in the chapter. Congrats.</nico:<>

A mermaid with a Devil Fruit = Totally useless. :getlost:

Fishman with a devil fruit= Oh….wait....

I hope that's sarcasm. I don't think she won't join either (she doesn't seem to know how to fight, and willing to discover the world seems to be a pretty lame dream compared to the other SH.) But, come on, your argument is nearly as dumb as the door thing for Jinbe.
-
Ah I would love for the mermaid princess to join, she's so much fun! We don't know nearly enough to say yet, although just the fact that she's a princess kinda works against her.
-

No you don't feel anything.
You're just absent mindedly tossing POTENTIAL CREW on whatever fucking character shows up next.Get the hell out of this thread.
-
Lol, it seems nothing can stop you Jerk.

IN defence of Dekken, while a horrible choice at the moment, he still has more of a chance than anyone else in this arc at the moment IMO. Being a fishman with a DF is a unique situation that might be fun to work with on the crew (like Chopper being an animal with a zoan rather than a human), and depending on the restrictions of his power, he could have interesting fights if it was combined with a fighting style. Furthermore he does seem to be eccentric and misunderstood. I do need to put the disclaimer that I do NOT think he will join, I'm just saying he makes more sense than anyone else in this arc to me. I still think if anyone will join this arc, the new crewmate has yet to be introduced, and will probably meet the Strawhats after they get in more serious trouble and are on the run, will probably hate or at least distrust humans at first but learn the SHs are different, and of course they'd have to be strong

If you know he's a shit option, why are you sticking your hands in the shit, smelling the shit, and tasting the shit.
-
Haha, I knew some people would theorise about the mermaid princess as soon as she was introduced. :p

It's a "yes" or a "no" really.
-
I'm just saying that the people who support him are at least somewhat better than the idiots who supported ideas like Caribou. I suppose it was a pointless thing to do. I'm also pointing out he was the best shot so far, but still not a good shot. Especially since we know very little about him due to his limited appearances. I put the reasoning there so people could see why I think he's the best choice so far this arc. Perhaps I should mention why he isn't likely which would be that his power could just as easily be boring and hard to work with in the future, and the whole Mermaid Princess must marry me or die, plus the lack of a dream. Plus the whole, he's the best so far, so the others are really grim considering his situation. I just feel like pointing out that it really depends on how and if he develops, since there are believable and not horrible ways he could do so to be a crewmember.
-
Stop putting poop in your mouth.

No it really isn't, seeing as how the door is an easily modifiable part of the ship. Feeding somebody, who is (probably) as big as your ship, three square meals a day is an actual problem. Especially since the Strawhats neither loot, nor plunder.
-

There's no way that she is as big as the sunny. Also I don't know if you noticed this, but Luffy also eats tons of food.
-
We haven't met anybody thats even remotely a reasonable candidate yet.
Really, we haven't.
And this is going to be a long arc.
Show some patience folks and stop jumping up and down every single time a new character appears, no matter how preposterous their joining is.
As a general rule, when theorizing about a character, if the first thing you have to say about them is a caveat of "Well, if they completely change this defining trait about the character that's the very first thing Oda showed us about them" then they probably aren't a good bet.
For cripes sake. Franky started as a antagonist, but the first time we actually saw him he was wearing a speedo and doing a dance.
And no. The giant mermaid princess who is scared of everything, with a "hard to say name" that Luffy has already said he doesn't like, isn't going to join. Luffy's going to fix her problem simply by defeating the badguy targetting her. That alone will free her up to persue her dreams and interact with people. She doesn't have to run away with pirates to do it.
-

Luffy ate her entire plate of food(not sure if he cleared off all of the plates, but he did at least one for sure), so how much food someone may eat isn't an issue and really isn't any reason to say she can't join.
Also, they stole a shit load of treasure from Skypiea so we've been shown they do loot.
-
Jerk, can you explain why its such shit? I'm still not advocating him at this time, but I have yet to see any problems with him that couldn't be solved as the arc develops. He isn't like Caribou, who is blatantly evil, and strikes me as more a misunderstood idiot who really does not realize what he's doing wrong. Its also quite possible he will realize the era in his ways, and make amends with Shirahoshi. Assuming he finds a way to do that, I can see a dream of exploring the world and documenting (and perhaps making illustrated records too) so that he can help share this stuff with Shirahoshi and possibly hope to take her there someday (Since even without the threat of Dekken, its quite possible she'll have another reason not to leave FI, due to the danger of kidnapping and other such stuff). Again, a lot of this stuff really depends on how this arc develops, but I do feel he is only one who we should wait and see for a bit more. I still think he is unlikely to develop the right way, but it isn't impossible
-
Shira's past is probably boring. I don't know how convincing being locked up in a tower can be as a tragic past since Oda just outright told us what it basically was this chap. She's just victim of some stalker.
Shira's curiousness about the outside world or above water is not that different than Marge's right now. Not really sold on anything with her don't know why anyone else would be other than being stupid as usual. Luffy asked her to take a walk not join his crew.
