If the S in his tatoo is for Sabo, what the hell does the circle in the C mean? If anything…
Chapter 587 "I will not run!" Discussion
-
-
Maybe the tatoo IS a mistake. Ace originally intended it to be ASL (Ace-Sabo-Luffy), but changed opinion mid-way when he realized he did not know what would Luffy's Jolly Roger look like…
-
I actually like the idea of the tattoo being originally ASL but later after Sabo leaves, Ace changes it to A
SCE. However, why would he not leave Luffy's L. This is the fallacy in this theory. The idea I like more is that it's just a mistake Ace made when he was young, assuming he got the tattoo when he was young.
-
I still blame the
hulahoopstattoo artist being an idiot. -
now someone tell me, how can the tattooist actually do a mistake like this? I mean it's only 4 letters! it's obvious that it was on purpose.

Perhaps he just misheard "Ace" for "Ase"?

It could be another friend of Ace, maybe one that Luffy might know? Since Sabo is leaving Dawn Island at 10(max 11), it could be someone Ace mets with luffy on the island in the 7 years or someone on the grandline.

aff.fanfic are for quitersNot Really. Didn't you know? Ace's Disappearance is setting up one of Luffy's Flashbacks seen in the Chapter where Ace dies…
-
I feel it should be noted in that part of the flashback Sabo isn't dead or they have no clue he is if he does die which I still doubt will happen.
-
Maybe sabo will stay on the island and rule the country…...but i hope not.
-
Ace's haki…
I'jm really enjoying this flash back now. I can't wait for the arrival of the Tenryubito. But maaan…those Nobles are scum. "Its their fault for not being born Nobles" How rotten the noblity have become.
That kind of "nobles" do still exist.
Example:
You can't choose where were you born rite?
You can't choose to be born in the rich family or poor family.
And if someone from poor country trying to go to the rich country without their license, its a crime…...they'll send them back.
Most ppl will despite them....its our country, you don't belong here......
its pretty much the same like what the nobles did isn't?But that's the way i see it. I'm pretty sure the truth isnt that simple.
-

And we go back again to Luffy's statement saying that Ace is his only brother in the world.
-
And we go back again to Luffy's statement saying that Ace is his only brother in the world.
Nobel can't be friends with pirate, maybe they can't call sabo his brother.
Kinda reminds me when the crew left alabasta. -
i gotta say i'm liking the "luffy thinks sabo dies but sabo doesn't die" theory. fits the context and doesn't waste all the char development that oda's done on sabo.

just read the chapter..
i love it.. coz I saw a Hooded Kuma~! Yosh!
A greater chance that Sabo's alive..

What is this so important "development" that you guys keep talking that would be wasted? And why his death would mean wasting it? Do you think that Kuina's development was wasted just because she died?
Characters are created with a purpose, and Sabo's purpose might be to die, and by doing so contribute to Luffy and Ace's development in some way. This flashback may be done to show Ace and Luffy's bond, and that Luffy also had to overcome a tragedy in his childhood, and to show us how he will cope with the death of his other brother.
-
No way would Oda flesh out this whole backstory for sabo if he wasn't going to introduce him to the main time line.
-
"Think about it…it's their fault for not having been born as nobles in the first place"
"You're right! They really should have been born as nobles! What fools!"Uh, okay Oda. I know you're trying to make the nobles sound like pompous arrogant assholes, but now you're just making them sound retarded.

@Thousand:

Perhaps. But seriously, how detached from reality do you have to be to believe that you actually have a say - nay - you can decide where and how you are born?

Yet even today you do get folks like that. Its not something that died out in the 1940s. But before then, the divid was EXACTLY like this. The rich upper class used to seperate themselves just like this. And some still do.
-
Interesting to see Kuma, although we pretty much already were expecting it. Not seeing the king still is bothering me, but I guess build-up is build-up.
-

Clover, Saul, Bellemere, Tom, Kuina, and, Dr. Hiluluk would all like to disagree with you.
I've still got a bad feeling about Sabo…
-
Clover, Saul, Bellemere, Tom, Kuina, and, Dr. Hiluluk would all like to disagree with you.
This list reminded me that Oda could go with his recent trend and have Sabo live by the end of the flashback but leave it ambiguous enough to cause debates on the internet for
weeksmonthsever like with Tom, Yorki and for some reason Saul. -

Clover and Saul were part of a flashback which focused on the importance of Robin.
Tom was part of a flashback that was focused on Franky.
Kuina was part of a flashback that was focused on Zoro.
Dr Hiluluk and Chopper had equal focus in their flashback, but Dr Hiluluk had to die to strengthen Chopper's character. So far in the current flashback, Sabo has had an equal amount, if not more focus than Ace and Luffy. And I can't imagine how Sabo dying can strengthen Luffy and Ace's characters.

I can see people are really going crazy as to the fate of Sabo in the series.
There is a theory that Luffy presumes Sabo dead but that is quickly debunked by Dogura letting Luffy know that Sabo is safe but not around.
There is one way this still could work. At the end of the chapter you see the villagers/nobles at the coast awaiting the arrival of the Tenryuubito and that's when they notice Sabo on the fishing boat heading out to sea. They shout to "Come Back!" because he is going to ruin the ceremony. I can see someone shooting down the boat to avoid any discrepancies with the Tenryuubito. Hell, the Tenryuubito could very well be the ones shooting down the boat.
Sabo is now in the water and the shooters could leave him there assuming he will be eaten or not survive or they can continue shooting and him get away somehow but still be stranded in the sea….and that is when Dragon's ship scoops him up behind the scenes but to the villagers and to Sabo's father, he is dead....which means word could get to Luffy and Ace that he is dead.
May be a little far fetched but it could work.

Nah, its not that farfetched, and it could happen. It's been one of the theories people have been writing on here since Weds when the chapter first came out, without the twist of the villagers shooting him (which is very interesting thinking, btw).
The problem isn't, and hasn't been, thinking of ways Sabo could survive. It's been thinking of ways he could be alive and still have Luffy and Ace not know–-because Luffy clearly declares, in the war, that he has only one brother--Ace. There is no way he'd say that like he did under those circumstances unless he truly believed it to be true.
So the problem is thinking of a reasonable scenerio that explains why an alive Sabo never contacted Ace or Luffy all these years, not to mention why he didn't move heaven and earth to show at Ace's execution.
So for those new to the thread who have no time to read the whole thing, a run down of where we are now in the discussion (with, ftr, no offense intended)
Some speculate that Sabo is in hiding with a psuedonym, working in secret, his identity and activities unclear at this time, and that we in fact have see him, we just don't know. Others think he's with the revolutionaries and can't come back for various reasons related to that position, and others think he simply will die in the next chapter. I think that's all the main theories so far, but someone please do correct me if I'm missing something.
In fact, at this point only Oda (and maybe a lucky select few others) know for sure. We have to wait, and have fun speculating.
-
remember ace saying: "if it were not for the sabo incident…"
first of all the word "incident" always had something special and "huge" to follow
remember "porchemy incident" (=> brotherhood of the 3) ; "tenryuubito incident" (=> admiral appearing before the strawhats) etc.so it could very well happen that sabo will die before the ceremony,
after luffy will hear of sabo's death, he would loose all of his faith,
because ace, dadan and sabo would be dead for him and he'd be all on his own again,
but then ace appears and says the magical words: "don't cha worry i will never die, that is a promise"dunno my feeling there ^^
-
Perhaps. But seriously, how detached from reality do you have to be to believe that you actually have a say - nay - you can decide where and how you are born?
Pretty damn detached, which is the whole point.
You know what the faces of the noble children (excluding Sabo) remind me of?
!
Those nasty-looking clones from Majora's Mask: empty, soulless beings with no personality whatsoever.
While both types of characters (mindless noble children and MM clones) may be hugely exaggerated, they're made that way for a good reason.
-
I wish Oda would tell us Sabo's full name…I am beginning to become curious about that...although it could be nothing.

arizona immigration debate gogogo =D
ha, i don't get the debate over this. well i see why they dont' like it, Obama and democrats want to make all mexicans citizens and with the new health care plan they woudl be set for elections to come in future.
but whats wrong with this law? its a situational instance they check your status. If you commit a crime. I mean its no different than for any citizen, if i get pulled over for say speeding they check my liscense and car registaration and go to computers and this checks my history, warrents, ect.
now if this happens to an illegal immigrant they would not have this stuff so what is a cop to do? just let them go and not give him a ticket since he doesn't excist in our country? no he should hand him over to the government and they do what they are supposed to do and deport his/her ass.
there is no profiling, descrimination, ect. its just common sense and a federal law even. I mean first of all they are called "illegal" immagrants for a reason, and also to all those illegal immagrants in Arizona, just don't break any laws and you'll be fine.
What you protesting for? you dont' see me going into employee only areas at places i don't work and bitching when they throw me out. And you have it even easier, they only check to see if your an "employee" if you do something wrong first, otherwise you get ignored and can continue to mooch off our free schooling and other tax payer services that you are not contributing to
-
ha, i don't get the debate over this. [followed by [I]political opinions and etc]
OMG this is such an incendiary topic, and there is a thread for political debate elsewhere in the forum. Please stop.
On topic, I think Oda never showed us Ace using Haki before because he wanted to keep the nature of Haki secret a bit longer, simple as that
-
I'm an independent and don't pay attention to government and politics its all corrupt pointless bullsh**
-
@I:

Just because Oda never showed US Ace using Haki doesn't mean that he wasn't using it.
-
Maybe Ace doesn't know he has it either like Luffy
-
Just because Oda never showed US Ace using Haki doesn't mean that he wasn't using it.
I can agree with that. As others have said, we really hardly saw Ace as an adult, just heard a lot about him from Luffy and in f/b's.
-
yea we haven't seen much of ace, besides when he was in captivity and also we don't know much about haki either.
so how much ace knows or mastered there is no way for us to tell yet or even ever just based on his situation at the time. we may realize later he was using it at some points, such as the hinting that mantra may infact have been haki, or we may neve rknow what he all could do and be left up in air forever just due to him basically having like half a chapter of being unchained. not much to show in that.
-
The interesting thing is what level of knowledge LUffy had/has about Haki. We have all assumed (along with Ivankov) that he is unaware of what he can do, or what his power is, but perhaps we have misinterpreted Luffy's reactions to others' reaction to his using haki (clear as mud? LOL). If Ace had it since they were children, it may seem like nothing special to Luffy–just "the way things are" for him, and his clueless reactions to others asking him about it when he uses it may be him being surprised about their reactions, based on his assumptions about it, if that makes sense.
It always struck me as odd that Luffy never seemed to show any sort of reaction to or acknowledgment of all the folks passing out around him after a burt of haki. Why the hell not? Don't tell me he doesn't notice because he's so focused on his goal, because no matter how much of an idiot he can be, Luffy is always very aware of what is happening around him during a battle.

So you are alluding to the possibility that there have been many instances of Haki around and/or from Luffy all of his life making it "normal" for him and therefore not warranting a real reaction to Haki period?
Interesting indeed….
-

Yes, that is exactly what I am alluding to. It doesn't have to mean he knows how to use it, or even what it's called (after all, it's not like there was a lot of adult supervision or mentoring going on for him, or Ace and Sabo for that matter, to explain such things), just that it may not surpise him when it happens because for him, it's a familiar thing.
It would give a little bit of a new twist to the reason Ace is shown using haki in the f/b, too (and even, perhaps, strengthen the theory that Luffy's on AL to learn (more?) about, and how to use, his haki).
Anyway, it's just a thought.

He did react to it once, on the first time he used his haki, when he knocked out Motobaro, he didn't know what happened:

Hmm. Guess that blows my theory out of the water–unless he never saw it work on animals before?
Yeah I'm reaching, lol.
But why no reaction to it since then? It still seems odd to me...
-

He'll probably treat Sabo like Sanji. Knowing Sabo, similar to Ace's reasons for name changing Sabo might just drop his surname altogether.
-

Yeah, because he did saw Shanks scaring the Sea Monster from Luffy's island using haki when he was little.

He probably saw it but just didn't bother to pay attention at the time.
-
Yeah, because he did saw Shanks scaring the Sea Monster from Luffy's island using haki when he was little.
OK That I know (and, uh, yeah, I knew about teh ox, too, just forgot), but that Seaking didn't pass out, so it seems that it would look different to Luffy, maybe. LOL That's my story and I'm sticking to it. lol. (–stupid memory)
He probably saw it but just didn't bother to pay attention at the time.
could be. He commonly takes stuff in without much reaction or commentary in dangerous situations. (Both in battle and situations like when he first met bb on jaya.)
Ah me, its so hot today my brain is melting in my head. Forgot all my ravings.
-
thank you so much!!! XD
-
Im starting to think that Luffy and Zoro have haki. This would enable them to fight logias…... Also i think dragon have the ability to control elements.
