I know the sick and dying Water creature Luffy helps the little girl is fluff and Zoro becoming a brother to the children is maybe something that Oda would have liked to have seen expanded on - He drew the kids in an SBS when they were asking the names of who they were.

I think the Directors of the anime have a very indepth respect for Oda and try to keep his image as true as possible - moreso NOW then BEFORE.
You are correct the early stuff suffers and no doubt can be quoted ad-nausem against my claim.
But the more recent anime is showing a more solid influence outside the initial manga. This comes from learning from mistakes - listening to people like yourselves clearly and vocally listing the failures they have made.
We can argue till we're blue in the face - you can call me names - drop tomatoes into further conversations. But the influence is becoming stronger - it is being taken advantage.
Does this mean the past fillers were all cannon? I never said that nor do I believe it.
Does this mean Oda may have influenced sections of arcs not covered in the manga? We may never know.

regarding naruto fillers , sitting through all 85 episodes at once or actually having to have had endure them with 1 new ep. EVERY week (with a few breaks) for 1 year and 8 months in a row is completely different..
The anime adds things all the time that are wrong or downright contradict what the manga depicts… often leaves out important details or even entire scenes, (it hasn't depicted ANY of the cover stories since Buggy's adventure) tosses in lousy concepts and invented villains, and consistently ruins brisk pacing by padding sequences out.
Yes, they can confer with Oda if they have a question, and he can drop them a note if something is of crucial importance, but he's not on the staff overseeing everything on a daily basis. Its NOT his vision. The manga is.
I gave up when Water 7 started doing the 1 chapter=1 episode thing. Where basically 5 minutes would be manga content, then another 3 would be opening and recap, and the other 12 would be padded filler of characters standing around giving reaction shots and reiterating what was already said.
If you're only watching the anime, you're missing the story as intended, and the "extra content" usually isn't terribly impressive.

Mmmmhmmm I haven't been arguing this point I have moreso been arguing they that are getting better and communicating more.
Especially with the current Strawhat crew seperation titles which is the important ones. I read the manga and watch the anime, I read the SBS's and have gone through the Wiki.
After all that I am standing by my claim that specifically the Seperation cover stories - the animated versions will / may be containing things that are cannon that was not represented in the manga.
I am NOT claiming that all previous work to date is 100% cannon but MAY have contained some cannon.

I gather from this that despite what the actual quality of the work is and no matter how it disgraces the source, so long as the parties involved 'feel' they did it right, it shows the quality of the source is being maintained?

Well I think that guy is me, and I did not mean to imply that. What I said and I still believe is that OP is one of the best anime adaptations that I have seen. The only way I would notice differences between the content of the two is if I had the manga sitting on my lap while watching the anime. That is not to say I have never noticed a difference (they added content in the skypeia episode where they are declared class 2 criminals) but I have not noticed anything that has made the show unwatchable or really changed the story.
I do not disagree that manga is Oda's vision, the anime is a crew of animators adaptation of his image and as always the book is better. But I would still eagerly recommend the anime to anyone who enjoys the genre.

I found both the adapted cover stories to be rather boring myself.
But I agree having extra Foxy is a bad thing, his mini arc is easily my least favorite of the entire manga it seems so pointless.

Which is stupid, because they use their distance from the manga (or lack thereof) as an excuse for their horrible pacing, when they could have easily adapted those stories. Doing so would have distanced them a little bit more, and the coverstories wouldn't leave viewers in the dark as to why Jango is with the marines, how Hachi met Camie, or how Crocodile and friends came to Impel Down, among other events that weren't explained outside of coverstories.
Just think- if they adapted the cover stories, we may not have had the …:getlost:...Mexican pirates filler.
It wasn't filler. It was a horribly-done tie in for the tenth movie.
If the anime and manga worked as closely together as they did for the tenth movie, then we'd probably be getting more crappy episodes like that.
