Just got back.
Shit was so cash.
I'll edit this post or make a new one after I cool off.
EDIT:
Alrighty… shit was awesome. Very awesome.
I ended up as the second person in the theater, some creepy guy beat me to the front and then kept talking to me... oh well.
I had a Cap shirt, I saw someone after the movie with the exact same shirt I was wearing... there were also a few Superman shirts, and one guy wearing a Canada shirt. I thought that was amusing.
No cosplayers, though. :<
The theater filled, but it was pretty slowly. I was there two hours early, most of the preview crowd showed up around the thirty minute mark and then it was a slow trickle to capacity. But my cousin or whatever was able to show up, so all good.
Before the movie started, some guys in front of me were talking about how dumb a Captain Planet movie would be... I pondered ruining their day but opted not to.
And then they showed a preview for the Thundercats remake and this guy was freaking the FUCK out. Amusing.
And now, movie spoilers...
! Steve Rogers as a little scrawny punk was great. They did a REALLY good job showing that he had the heart of a hero, and the serum only allowed him to act on it.
! Also lots of shield teasing before he actually got one… first was with a garbagecan, and then with a taxi door. I was hoping that he'd throw it, but he didn't. :<
! STARKFAIR FUCK YEAH
! JIM MOTHERFUCKING HAMMOND, THE ORIGINAL HUMAN TORCH WHAT THE FUCK
! He was only onscreen for a few seconds, but damn it I was not expecting that.
! Erskine was a pretty cool guy, it made his inevitable death hit harder.
! And Bucky… I really liked him. His bromance with Cap was fun, though he didn't get too much screentime after the big rescue scene.
! Howling Commandos were boss as fuck. Too bad they didn't call any of them by name. :/
! The requisite romance was actually well-done for once, and Peggy's final farewell was actually really fucking sad. They never got to dance...
! RED SKULL AAGH SO COOL.
! His costume was great, the makeup they used was fucking amazing. He was the coolest hate-filled Nazi I've seen in a long time.
! As for Zola, his introductory scene was a nice visual aside to his appearance in the comics, what with his face in a screen and all that. Very nice.
! And Howard Stark was a fucking bro. Not quite as suave, but it's VERY apparent that he's where Tony gets it from. Nice choice including him as much as they did.
! My only complaint is that they could have fleshed out the mid-movie CAPTAIN AMERICA AND THE HOWLING COMMANDOS BLOW NAZIS TO SMITHEREENS scene, they used a montage instead to save time (I guess) and it just felt rushed. I wanted to see more of Bucky sniping Nazis Hydra agents.
And to Lion…
! There IS Hitler-punching.
! An entire montage of it.
I shall go to my neighbors in the morning and thank them, as their son was one of the movie's two writers.
