Now that I think about it it is interesting how anger power up is hated and there isn't more of an uproar for Gear 2 being pulled out of Luffy's ass out of nowhere.
On some "Oh let me try this new move" shit/"Thanks to you guys I can get stronger now"
-
Luffy's never gotten stronger out of anger. He gets his power-ups when he needs to protect some one. So he could get his power-up when Akainu goes for the finishing blow against Ace.
Here's my big, (undoubtedly wrong) theory on what will happen: Luffy beats Akainu using a tremendous amount of Haki-imbued attacks. It gets explained by someone that Haki users need to slowly build up their body to handle stronger and stronger Haki attacks, but Luffy was able to unleash all of his huge Haoshoku Haki at once because of the tension hormones or maybe just because he forced himself to.
After escaping Marineford, he's about to die from using that much power way before he was ready for it, so as a last measure, Ivankov injects Luffy with healing hormones that cause him to sleep for a year as he recovers (that being the much talked about time skip). He won't be able to use that much Haki again until he trains his body up to withstand it, which won't be for another 300-400 chapters, so Luffy isn't actually that strong yet and it would be more like a peak at how strong Luffy will eventually get.
…or something like that. Really I just want to see Luffy kick ass.
That just sounds…well I won't say bad but mediocre...
-
@Thousand:

Yeah, I know. I really just want to see Luffy do something mind blowing before this arc comes to an end.
-
Did you just make up "healing hormones"?

"I just thought of something, I can actually utilize my unique ability to do new moves"
…...why is this such an absurd idea for getting stronger?
I never thought I'd say "Luffy" and "logial" in the same breath, but Luffy's thought process was actually..... logical. -
anger triggered goku's super saiyan 1 and gohan's ssj 2 transformation when someone close got raped hard… krillin and android 16.
well in toryima's defense i believe he wanted to end dragonball after frieza. but being forced you know you kind of have to reuse ideas.
but also Goku managed 2 and 3 saiyan and did so in other world and wasn't due to anger. Also Vegeta achieved super saiyan not through anger but some other way, wasn't it something like when he completely let go of all his anger and gave up or something.
and gohan's ssj 1 was more due tohis desire to protect others and also as self preservation. So they arne't all tied to anger, it just has some trigger which it seems different for people. But why argue about or bitch about DBZ. WE all know we loved seeing it and were just wating each week to see someone go ape shit and transform to soe new amazing power. ehll thats why i read bleach, and what got me hooked on naruto initially. I was like OMG when naruto first whipped out his red chakra and beat that mirror guy. And i like to see each time ichigo masters some new form. ITs a guilty pleasure.
But those are also the reason why i am ot in some naruto or bleach forum, because i am not interested or intrigued by the story and characters, just thier power ups. Hell i used to colelct teh naruto box sets, but after like having 3 i quit because i realized where naruto was heading and didn't like it naymore and didn't want ot invest too much into and feel obligated to conitnue buying the sets.
but one piece is different, i know next chapter we aren't going to see Luffy in his anger or whatever whip out some insane power up and beat up an admiral. and thats awesome. If he did, then that would ruin the series for me. Because then from now on whenever some insane guy shows up we have no worry of defeat, we just wait for the sentimental moment that trigger his next power up to beat him.

I never thought I'd say "Luffy" and "logial" in the same breath, but Luffy's thought process was actually..... logical. It's not that he thought of it like that. It's that there's no point from the time he got pwned until he reveals it that foreshadows or subtly hints that that thought process occurred cuz like you said it doesn't strike anyone that Luffy is all that logical. All we know is that after he got pwned by Aokiji he knew he needed to get stronger and that was stressed when he got pwned again.
It's one of those it must've happened off panel situations. I'm not mad at it just pointed at how there wasn't much of an uproar when it happened as if this was the norm in the manga. Dudes just think up badass new techniques off panel and decide to try them out possibly for the first time in a fight.
I did like how gear 2 was used and foreshadowed in one of the movies tho. Wouldn't have hurt to try something like that in the manga.
-
I don't know whether Luffy is going to get a power up but I agree with those who think he will beat Akainu (or at least punch him). At the moment, Akainu does deserve to be punched for what he did to Ace and the stuff he said about WB. I think Haki works by having enough determination to make something happen. If Luffy is pissed enough to want to punch Akainu then it is possible for Akainu to be punched by Luffy. I am also thinking that the punch would be shown on the screens.
Using Haki is the only remaining way that Luffy is going to beat logias like the admirals. So it's a matter of time when he is going to utilize it and I don't think there is any better time than now for Luffy's debut.
-
I think it is more likely that either Ace or Whitebeard will deal with Akainu.. not defeat but hold off.
Btw when Luffy dropped the vivre card, Jimbei was standing right behind him, then when Akainu starts to throw his punch, he is nowhere to be seen anymore. Jimbei=coward?
-
For the escape, I kind of hope Ace blinds Akainu with the light of his flames close-up like a fake-out, then grabs Luffy while Marco, who suddenly remembers he has Haki and can fly, jump kicks Akainu out of the way. Pretty simple.
-
I've been noticing ppl can't differentiate Luffy's anger and Luffy's determination/desperateness when he uses his haki.
@wintergt:Btw when Luffy dropped the vivre card, Jimbei was standing right behind him, then when Akainu starts to throw his punch, he is nowhere to be seen anymore. Jimbei=coward?
LMFAO. Maybe he's leaped in to the air to attack Akainu?

Well his determination comes sometimes from anger… remember how Luffy decided to kick Arlong's ass... But I agree that although there is a link bewteen anger and determination, it's not the same thing...
No transition... Don't you think, if both Ace and Luffy are unable to fight anymore (wich is quite possible), that Jimbei will be the one who will save them ? I think they are not so far from the sea, and I assume that none of the admirals could chase anyone underwater... So since Jimbei is really near them, he may just catch them and run away by the sea.
-
I wonder what will happen next. I hope we really do see one full fight this arc, either a fight with Whitebeard vs an Admiral or Whitebeard vs Blackbeard(if he even shows up).
Why I say this is because I want to see at least 1 epic fight with Whitebeard before he kicks the bucket(like some people think will happen).
-
Good god. Even if they all get on the boat and try to "get away", you really think a giant ship would be fast enough so that none of the marine uppers could blow it up? Or freeze it. Its not like Ace ignoring Akainu would have meant them getting away, there are still a lof strong fighters on the field that you expect to sit down once they board a boat? HA. Dragon is going to show up and blow everyone away with his Wind Power.

Well yeah the determination from anger has definitely happened but it's usually after Luffy gets all the facts just like what you mentioned and the same with the Alabasta arc. He gets mad about the situation and then is determined to help.
I joked about it before but I could see Jimbei stepping in here if WB doesn't or is preoccupied with other admirals or Sengoku. Jimbei doing what he did for the escape from ID now is a stretch tho and a little repetitive although I wouldn't be that mad if that's how they got away
I just see all this as stalling until Oda reveals the ingenious way they escape. It might be something un thoguht of or something that was in our faces all the time. I'm not for stuff like the SNs come and save the day

EVERY THREAD IN THIS FORUM IS TURNING INTO A DISCUSSION ABOUT DRAGONBALL Z I SWEAR!
How long before we start discussing Nazi's?
(yay Godwin \o/)"I just thought of something, I can actually utilize my unique ability to do new moves"

I never thought I'd say "Luffy" and "logial" in the same breath, but Luffy's thought process was actually..... logical.Imho, Luffy has shown extreme amounts of logic and tactical reasoning in battle/fighting so far. In fact, I would call him a genius in this regard. I was least surprised by him coming up with such moves.
-

Agreed. If you recall his fight with Enel, Luffy devised various strategies to work around Enel's Mantra–turning off his thoughts and dodging his attacks with pure instinct, as well as using his Gatling Gun against a wall so the punches would bounce off randomly. His resourcefulness helped him immensely in his second battle with Crocodile as well. Luffy is certainly simple-minded to a fault and positively ignorant about many things, but when it comes to combat, his ability to adapt and improve himself is astounding. The same applies to Zoro, and to a lesser extent, Sanji.
I think the key to Luffy's survival (and potential success) in the New World will be this whole haki thing. We've seen it in action enough times to know how important it is, especially when fighting against ridiculously powerful Logia users.

Indeed.
Anger is what just killed Ace.
When Luffy came after Arlong, he was perfectly calm, he knew what he had to do. The same in this war, he knew they had to run, and he knew that Ace should not stop to listen to Akainu's bullshit. Same happened to him when he faced Bellamy's pirates and he let them speak and even beat him without replying. Because he knew that words only have the importance you give to them. -
Where are the super sunday spoilers?
-
So Luffy's basically sort of autistic. He's a failure in some areas and a genius in other areas.

Because he knew that words only have the importance you give to them.Luffy is very hit-and-miss when it comes to being calm on the battlefield. Ace is much the same. Ace was much, much calmer facing Blackbeard than Akainu, despite Blackbeard's threats towards Luffy. In contrast, when Luffy met Blackbeard in Impel Down, he lost it as badly as Ace did against Akainu. If not for Jimbei physically stopping Luffy, things would have become ugly real fast.
And Luffy is not autistic, he cares too much about the views of his friends and for his friends in general.
-
Is there an official word for his condition? Stupid, but extremely wise.
-
@AdmiralYonkouMt.Bandit:
If anything they learned from that in the past 2 decades and took off the cameras after they made WB look like a traitor and a traitorous act won't inspire ppl for this new era. The public, young potential pirates, etc. did not get to hear all the badass shit WB was saying so he loses. Sure some ppl won't believe WB was a traitor like some of the SN but younger ppl who will eventually make a name for themselves in this era won't know any better.
The den den mushi is back up, and squad is still running around fighting for whitebeard. Ace is freed and WB is fighting the marines heavily wounded. i think the general public can figure out that he didn't betray his allies.
especially now that the den den mushi is running again, WB can make his final stand, and inspire the world with his sacrifice. and so making the new era, whitebeard his era. All blackbeard has done so far is capture Ace.

I don't agree, Luffy had a reaction but then was easily convinced - by reasoning - that he was not here to fight BB but to save Ace.
I won't say that Ace is stupid, I understand that's he had to die for the story and Oda couldn't come to anything better: Luffy had to save him, but still see him die, for the story. -

Yes and note; topics only go to DBZ and Nazis once either of the two get mentioned once. So mentioning either is a death wish for any topic. Lol.

@Don:
WHAT THE …........
It's a manga about world leaders such as George Bush Sr & Jr, Prime Minister Koizumi, Putin, the Pope, and Tymoshenko fighting Space Nazis who created the Third Reich on the moon, led by Hitler that can turn into Super Saiyan mode. With mahjohng matches. And mahjong moves that literally kills the opponent.
No, I didn't make any of this up.
Back on topic.
Mahjong >>>>>>>>>>>> Magma >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Fire. Obviously. -
You know, reading the chapter again, I really don't know how Ace could possibly survive that attack. I know this is One Piece where people can get shot through the head with lightning or take nukes to the face and still survive but that attack looked…DEADLY!!! It spanned his entire chest area!!! It looked like it took out his lungs, his heart, his liver, his kidneys, his digestive system and if none of that at the very least his spine!!!
I meant WTF:blink:!!!
-

Super Aryan Hitler.Man, that's like, major spoiler. Not that hard to tag, you know.
Though I can understand that this level of hilarity is impossible to hide. -

Visual damages done to Logia doesn't always mean literal.
Remember how Joz's attack shattered Aokiji, and when Aokiji reformed back into his human self, he just had bleeding cuts from his mouth?
And not shattered into bits and pieces of flesh, splattered all over the floor? -

Organs don't mean much in OP anyway, I mean Franky just removed his organs and installed a fridge and he is fine too.
-
Logia regenerates. Notice how he lost all the flesh on his arm the first time he clashed with Akainu.
This is not saying he'll survive, but just that the damage area is rather irrelevant in comparision to the radius.
-
My reasoning is that even though he intended to block the attack, his reflex triggered logia transformation nonetheless.

In which case Akainu would have hit Luffy, which was who he was aiming for. Not hitting Luffy can only work if he was stopped by Ace which doesn't work with an activated Logia defense.

Not necessarily… Maybe he just slowed down Akainu's punch... Killed the momentum so to say...
Anyway, the vivre card is not completely burned so Ace is still in the game.Btw I'm literally dying to see WB's vivre card right now!
-

Anyway, the vivre card is not completely burned so Ace is still in the game. He'd have to be solid for at least an instant, and in that case he would take damage.
