Well, I guess I focused more on the civilians and non-soliders that the marines were killing as opposed to the trained soliders that Saul attacked and didn't kill.

All the civilians and none archelogists were on that boat (Which Akainu then blew up, which i'll admit was a brutal dickmove and wrong on so many levels but that has little of anything to do with Aokiji who was just as appaled as most readers were).

So those getting shelled on the island were the people who willingly decided that they'd give anything even their lives for the pursuit of those stones and the information they contained, so you may as well say that they knew just as much what they were getting into as the soldiers fighting on those boats.

Really, why are people always talking like the marines are just like our armies and armed forces?

Im not, im actualy more inclined to compare them to the 17-18th centuary armies of Europe.

Yes, Ao Kiji is a good marine but the guy still killed a good man. That shouldn't be brushed aside by saying "he was just doing his job,"

He was a dead man either way, if anything he spared him of a worse fate like Impel down and/or executing by giving him a quick death. And after that he even honored the memory of the fallen, by stopping Spandine from following her.

I dont see what more he could have done.

especially when the guy has shown the skill and cunning to hide Robin from the marines.

He's supposed to hide a rampaging gigant who just attacked them from thousands upon thousands of soldiers on an island no bigger than a large farm? Even if he hadnt already revealed himself the guy is bigger than the hills on that fricking island.
