Really? Pity. I always enjoyed Disney VA's, even when a celebrity was cast in a role, because there would usually be sufficient, I dunno, talent behind the selection to push profits beyond simple name association. If Disney's reverting to a Dreamworks-esque Shark Tale trend, the industry is really fudged up.

edits backwards grammar whoops, hate it when I do that. :P
Yeah, exactly. Here's a role that could possibly be best played by a very talented, hard working voice actor, and instead of someone getting their dream role, a celebrity is coerced into taking a role that means very little to them other than a little side-project and extra money. I don't mean that's always a bad idea, we all love Tom Hanks as Woody in Toy Story. (Although we may not get him back for Toy Story 3 because he's sick of it. XD) But we don't love Woody because he's Tom Hanks.
-
For most of Disney's GOOD movies, the voice acting has always been good, not just because a celebrity is doing it. Take their Miyazaki dubs, for instance. They're all extremely high quality, and nearly all of the VAs fit their role.
Read Mr. 13's link. http://www.miceage.com/allutz/al110805a.htm
People complained about not seeing Jack Sparrow? Jeez, the morons of the world never cease to astound me.
Okay . . . . . not quite as bad as I was expecting, but still . . . . .
I think their ideas of incorporating Jack Sparrow into it is actually clever, but do they really need to push Davy Jones that much? And what's with this replacing the old pirate ship for the Black Pearl and Barbossa?
-
I'm so glad I managed to go on the Pirates of the Carribean ride twice in my lifetime. It's safe in my memories.
-
Hahaha. My family LOVES Pirates of the Caribbean. I've only been to Disney World twice, but I've been on the ride like ten times cause we love it that much.
And here's a tip if you ever go to Tokyo Disney: Do NOT go on Splash Mountain, unless you want all your childhood nostalgia shattered with a sledgehammer as you listen to all the southern bayou critters sing Zip-a-dee-do-da in Japanese. . . . . shudders

But that's what makes it great!
-
bitter tears Don't even make me bring up what they did to the Haunted Mansion . . . .
-
Eh? What did they do? I went on the Tokyo-version ride too, it was still fun. I can't really compare it to LA Disneyland, since I went to that one when I was six.
I do recall that Tokyo Disneyland didn't have the Alice in Wonderland ride and I was very upset by that.
-
Disney has sunk to an all-time low. Not only have the eaten Pixar, they were in the process of releasing a Dreamworks rip-off. Heck, the Dreamworks flick wasn't even very good, why bother?
-
Oh HELL no. Please tell me that they're gonna scrap that piece of garbage. That really is an all-time low.

Well, they had the teacups . . . .
Basically what they did is that, in the spirit of Christmas, they redid the Haunted Mansion with Nightmare Before Christmas. Now I love Nightmare Before Christmas, but doing that to the ride just took it from rather creepy to just plain silly. I can't get scared at a giant Jack Skellington face going "Meeeerrriii kurisumasu!!"

Disney's problem is that…
A:They are trying to update their rides to be politically correct. (Hense the Pirates of the Caribean change. I remember bidding on one of the ladies being auctioned.)B: This is the first I heard of the Haunted Mansion change. Don't like them interjecting current movies to update classic rides. It's the same as destroying history. As Robin said, they can't (or won't...) return to the past.
C:They grabbed PIXAR because they can't do good movies anymore. They are just looking at the current trends, and forsaking classics for a temporary pleasing the kiddies thing.
Disney is destrying itself. I hope they DO put out The Wild. I want to see how low the rating is on Rottentomatoes gets and laugh like Arlong, because it's a more appropriate laugh in that case than Crocodiles.
-

Okay, at first glance, I thought they was ripping off Madagascar but I was wrong. They're ripping off "Finding Nemo"…their own movie, so I guess that's okay.
-
The animals coming out of the New York Zoo is the blatant Madagascar rip-off. and Madagascar wasn't even that GOOD.

From what I can tell they often use Tokyo Disneyland as a testing ground for new ride ideas, so the NBC Haunted Mansion may never see the light of day in the U.S. I hope to god it doesn't.

Well, was this put into production before or after Madagascar?
If they started working on this before Dreamworks, then they might not have been ripping the idea off. For an example, I seem to recall hearing The Life and Times of Juniper Lee was put into production well before American Dragon: Jake Long, but the latter made it out of the starting gate first.

The networks keep tabs on project titles and share information much more liberally than to the general public. Notice.
Antz -> A Bug's Life
Shark Tale -> Finding Nemo
Madagascar -> The WildDisney and Dreamworks have met eye-to-eye for each of their films, with the cashcows each procuring a sequel (Toystory 2, Shrek 2) and a planned additional sequel (Toystory 3 [without Pixar], Shrek 3).
-
Toy Story without PIXAR!??! WTF dude!
Thats what made them so great in the first place!
-
a planned additional sequel (Toystory 3 [without Pixar], Shrek 3).
I thought that whole Toy Story 3 thing was solved when Disney bought Pixar.
-
That it was, but notice how it was in development stages. As of yet, Disney/Pixar has not failed to meet Dreamworks productions in actual released productions, if not in content.
-

I've got two words for that: Rip-off artists!

Hey, check this out: Asterix and the Vikings -A big budget 2d movie! And it looks pretty good at that. Asterix is a popular European comic character, but I believe the movie is also coming to America. I find this to be an immensely refreshing breath of air from all the CGI talking animal movies that are coming out this year. (There are supposed to be 10? May change)
Also, Disney is going to release Fox and the Hound II in November and Brother Bear II in August this year, and Cinderella III and Aristocats II next year, and the Little Mermaid III the year after that. And (somehow) there's going to be a Madagascar II(2008), and direct-to-video Pengins movie(2009)…. and a Shrek 3 (which I'm looking foreward too, they haven't failed me yet) and a Puss in Boots (which sounds promising) from dreamworks. I'm guessing the new thing nowadays is spinoff movies?
There will be a new VeggieTales movie, "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything", which I will be seeing kthx. <3
OH SNAP SOMEONE GET e1N! Kung Fu Panda
Thank you, that is all.
-
Taboo, are you making up these sequels to mock Disney, or do you have somewhere where these are confirmed?
If that's true, I might wonder if they will make a Snow White II and Sleeping Beauty II.
-

Cinderella III Fox and the hound 2 Brother Bear II Mermaid III
Do not doubt the sequeling power of Disney. The ones 2007+ are still in production though. Heck, they're doing a remake of the Shaggy dog! ><
-
Hey, check this out: Asterix and the Vikings -A big budget 2d movie!
Cool, I like Asterix. I remember watching an older animated movie of that back in the 80's.
Gah, all the sequels. That's sickening. At this rate, they might even make a Black Cauldron sequel….naaaah. XD
There will be a new VeggieTales movie, "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything", which I will be seeing kthx. <3
Heehee, that sounds amusing.
-
Well, the Black Cauldron is based on a book in a series. The other books include: The book of Three, Taran Wanderer, Castle of Llyre(sp?) and The High King. Making a Black Cauldron II wouldn't upset the Socccer Mom's, but it would outrage the community that likes to preserve classic stories.
But I agree with the idiocy of excessive sequels. Heck, in today's politically correct society, will that gruff guy in Fox & Hound II still carry a shotgun? Will he still hunt? or will they have him give it up because it's politically incorrect to have hunters in movies? Either way, it's going to suck. That's why I stopped watching Disney movies.
-
Wow. Hold onto your britches, folks, I can't wait for BROTHER BEAR II and pants might start flying.
…
That movie not only sucked, it raked in low revenew. Another BUZZ LIGHTYEAR animated movie would do better. Why bother?
-

You know things have gotten bad when taboo is sick of talking animal movies. With all the American actors doing voices it has to be released in the states. Maybe Direct-to-Video release if they don't get a distributor. 2D would be great as long as its the really detailed kind and not just TV type toon placed on the big screen. Otherwise why bother.
Who is watching these sequels? Good grief!!!!
Also if anyone know Al Micheals was released from his contract at ABC, a disney owned network, and is going to NBC to do football there. Well in order for him to join that network a deal was worked out. Amongst, the many of the deals, one of them was NBC sign over the rights to Oswald, an obscure Disney character that looks like Mickey with rabbit ears. Huh???
-
God I hate those sequels, it's so wrong to spoil originally good movies continuing them with extremely bad story and animation just for the money…(and who are those idiots who watch them ? :x )
And, I personally don't like 3D-animated movies, I have always preferred traditional animation, it just looks better. That's why it makes me sad that new animated movies(excluding sequels) are almost always made completely with computer. :(
-
I'd kill to see Relient K's version of the "Pirates who don't do anything" in the movie.
-
Madagascar was pretty disappointing. Treasure Planet was good. Pacifire was pretty funny. That's all I can think of.
I want to see Bambi 2 so badly! And Lion King One and a Half even more! >.<
-
Well, the Black Cauldron is based on a book in a series.
EVERY Disney movie is based on something, whether it's a book, or an older series. They could make a movie out of another story in the series but the point was that it was a very unsuccessful movie for them so I doubt they would do it.
-
NBC finally released the rights to Oswald the Rabbit? Woah, that's actually pretty huge. That character was Walt Disney's first major cartoon character, and was rising toward Mickey fame until a rights dispute took ownership of the character away from Disney.
…
However, I find that Disney's continual pursuit of Oswald shows how fall the company has fallen. Hang onto those memories, baby.
-

This is a major deal, especially for animation buffs.
This is a really sound business decision by Disney on top of everything else for reasons explained here.

Yes, it'll be there. =3 Love that song.
Oswald is cool and everything (and I'm looking foreward to mechindise) but if they make a movie or a tv show… Anyway, I think this site http://www.o-meon.com/pages/news%26features/n%26f_02-09-06.html explains it best really.

Sorry for double posting~ ><
Toy Story 3 is back in production apparently~ http://www.latinoreview.com/news.php?id=374

aw crap. What the hell, Pixar?
-
I don't know if you any of you guys heard that recently K.P (a.k.a Kim Possible) got renewed for a 4th season. From what I heard the new episodes will continue where they left off from the ending of the origanl finale of the series (a.k.a So the Drama). So I can't wait for Season 4 to air on tv.

So the Drama? Isn't that where Kim and Ron officially "got together?" Ooooh boy

I don't think I'd mind a Toy Story 3, actually. But what's the chance that it will actually be good?
-
This post is deleted!
-
Let's pray to god that the sequels are as serious about themselves as Lion King 1½ was. I'd take a spoof with few songs over a feeble attempt at an actual story, with an annoying amount of songs (LM II) any day.

Now THIS I like, especially after seen it verified at tv.com! Dr. Drakken and Monkey Fist alone are worth it!
…though I'm put off by the fact that Ron and Kim would be a couple in those episodes. That'd make it...akward. -
Just looked at the box reciepts from the latest Disney CGI movie "The Wild" and its a bomb. Ha! Ha!
Also maybe I need to look at some more trailers but I'm not interested in the new Pixar movie "Cars"

Score!

It's not grabbing my attention too much either, but then Finding Nemo didn't either, but it was pretty good. I'm just not sure what the plot is, but knowing Pixar it's probably decent.
-
Did you know that the amount of computing power in the production of 'Cars', Pixar is only surpassed by NASA?
I think you should give it a chance. =P If anything, it's going to be a work of art~
-
So theres indeed gonna be a TS3 after all…and a super hero movie which is kinda a sequel to galaxy quest? Oh boy.
And a foruth season of Kim Possible huh? I BET YOU they wont be a couple in it, that just wouldn't work.
-
I watched Mulan II on Toon Disney the other day . . . .
. . . . . dammit, that is two hours of my life I can NEVER get back! The Mary-Sues!!! The writers must have been recruited off fanfiction.net!

Bumping this thread rather than creating a new one to express my love for Disney's adaptation of Robin Hood.
RH is by far my favorite Disney movie. The dialogue is wonderful and witty. And the characters have such well written conversations. Listen to the opening dialogue between Robin Hood and Little John. It's the perfect way to get the movie started. And I love Disney's decisions on what animals to play which characters. The usually evil fox is used for the all around hero Robin, while the brave and mighty Lion plays the cowardly Prince John. Plus the bitter badger as the jovial good-doer Friar Tuck. And did I mention the animation? I'm still impressed by it even today. Plus the characters are so loveable. Robin Hood is an underratec classic.

I love that film!
I own the DVD version and saw that the movie had a different ending planned but was never used. and IMO, They should have used it.I am a fan of disney, I own tons of VHS disney movies.I dont mind some of the sequels. but stuff like Cinderella 3 and Little Mermaid 3(Prequel from what i heard) is shuff that should not happen.
-
I like Disney, older Disney anyway…

Pixar's workin' on it, it's coming out 2010.
Speaking of Pixar, anyone who didn't see Ratatouille missed out on one of the BEST movies of 2007. And that's not the Disney fan in me talking.
Everyone keep your eye out for Frog Princess, shaping up to be the next worthwhile animated Disney venture in years. (Many hoping for it to start a second Disney Rennaisance, that is, the 90s hit after hit cycle we had)
Oh, and those cheap cash-in sequels and spin offs DTVs are officially over. Expect to see no more ever again, except for a few that are already pretty mcuh finished.

Yes 100% agreed:w00t:
