I didn't think much of Mr. 3 during Little Garden, but his team up with Buggy and the way he used his powers to help Luffy against Magellan at Impel Down have made me a fan.
Also, I can't vote for the man who beat Kaku and I'm tired of people voting for a character's "potential."

Nothing wrong with potential. I mean hey, if a character stirs your imagination and makes you think they'll do something important later… that's not a bad thing.
Even if Whitebeard doesn't do anything, his cool and impressive demeanor is more appealing to me than Mr. 3's character.

He's just arrogant, that's all. He lets words talk instead of actions. He gives Shanks that impressive speach about "where would the soul of my son go if I wouldn't teach that fool (Blackbeard) any morals" but instead of getting the job done himself he sent one of his men (Ace) that also got his ass kicked. If he would have been half the man that speech indicated for him to be he would have went after Teach himself back then already. Just compare that to Shanks. He at least went to rescue Luffy himself and lost an arm that way. I wouldn't be even surprised if that's what Shanks told Newgate once they clashed swords to make the old man stop and realize that he's not flawless himself.
Anyways, don't like Mr. 3 but definitely don't want to vote for somebody who's most impressive feats so far is to constantly remind people about who he is. It's as if he's a Pokemon.

Whitebeard sits in a giant chair and looks awesome.
They could cut to a scene of him just sitting there once a chapter/episode, and it would be epic. Why's everybody so concerned about "doing things" all of a sudden?
Although, I mean he probabaly did some impressive things to get to where he is. We just haven't seen it. We have seen him sit in that chair and be glorious though.
The guy can't fail.

I found Mr. 3 quite annoying (Little Garden), then pathetic (Alabasta), then meh (Impel Down).
And though I agree with you that Whitebeard hasn't done anything yet, I am sure that he will very soon.
