Ah, I'm glad they're not gonna try and drag it out. It seems like the authors have been quite finished with Bakuman for awhile now. It's been fun guys.. let's enjoy these last weeks in this thread..
Bakuman
-
-
Oh, who could have guessed???
It's a good moment, I hope that the chapter comes out soon. Redhawk should give it Beelzebub Priority this week.
-
Ahhhh…..the bittersweet end. I can't wait for the chapter.
-
Well, we've known this was coming for months now, it's been clear for a while… and last week it was really clear... looking forward to it. And dreading it.
This has been my favorite weekly for a couple years now aside from OP. Once this is done, with Negima also ended... and not reading Naruto or Bleach, I'm not going to have much left to read weekly.
Oh well, here's hoping its solid!
That's unexpected … I mean don't series usually announce at least some weeks earlier that they are ending?
Other mags do, but Jump doesn't. And some series end real suddenly sometimes. But Bakuman has been pretty blatant about heading towards its end, (We've been saying since at least December we didn't think it could possibly fill the magazine spine all year) especially with its Reversi parallels… but the actual final chapter announcement isn't until the week-of usually.
-
I'm looking forward to this last chapter. I've liked this series despite the flaws, so I'm sad to see it go. It's been a very meta series and I hope the end reflects all that.
let's enjoy these last weeks in this thread..
Well the thread can still stay open for the anime and such.
-
@RobbyBevard:

Sounds like a good time to start reading Toriko.
-
Seems an appropriate time ot hunt down my first impression of this series.
@RobbyBevard-September:
Finally gave this series a chance. Ended up wasting the whole weekend reading it.
I work in the comic industry, so, it was doubly interesting to me. The work ethics, insights, the kind of dedication and time investment, and the kinds of peoples invovled really are pretty universal. (I've pulled many a 2 day stint and sleeping at the office all week to cut back on travel time, and such.) The writer's insight on the creative process and what a series needs in terms of characterization, cliffhangers, etc. is pretty spot on and apt, as well as how different editorial treats different projects.
The standards at Jump (even a fictionalized Jump)are the same as an American publisher. If sales just aren't there, a series doesn't get to continue regardless of how passionate the creators might be about a project. Jump works differently due to being an anthology, but…yeah.
Very interesting stuff.
Sounds like a good time to start reading Toriko.
Nah. I've heard good things, but I think I'm pretty much done with ongoing current shonen series aside from the ones I've already been invested in. Besides, I have tons of other older (already finished) stuff on my pile to get around to reading first before starting on anything new and ongoing.
-
Well the thread can still stay open for the anime and such.
What? No it can't! Bwaahahhahahh
…
Yes I know, but it'll basically be dead after the manga ends. That's basically what I was saying.
-
so this is the last the chapter? we have the wedding but what other loose ends were there? i wanted to see hiramaru's wedding :(
-
so this is the last the chapter? we have the wedding but what other loose ends were there? i wanted to see hiramaru's wedding :(
As a slice of life series, rather than an action series, pretty much every character existing was still a loose end and more stories could have been told about them at some length. What their next series would be, if they'd ever be number 1, redeem themselves, find love, have kids… applies to pretty much every side character as ongoing questions.
-
Last chapter huh? Guess the date will be epic then…
-
So it really is ending, eh? Well, it's been a fun ride and here's hoping for a great final chapter.
The last few weeks I've read the spoilers for Bakuman chapters, but no way am I spoiling myself for this.
Also, this means I really need to get cracking on finishing my Bakuman Epilogue video.
-
Yeah I know it was heading for the ending I was just surprised it happened unannounced.
Good moment to end though. But with Bakuman ending I have no weekly series besides OP I look forward to … well, I read Naruto and Fairy Tail, but those are 2 minutes/per chapter and even those feel like a waste of time.
Should pick up Toriko and Beelzebub again.
-
Makes me wonder what SJA is going to do since bakuman is ending? Are they going to replace it with another series and if so which one?
-
The last few weeks I've read the spoilers for Bakuman chapters, but no way am I spoiling myself for this.
Yeah, with the series usually scanlated 3 or 4 days after everything else, I've been impatient too, for a while now… but for the last I'm definitely going to wait for the real thing.

I'm glad Bakuman is ending where it is. It would have dragged on too long at this point. It's kind of like Reversi, end at it's best. (although i still think its best was in the first half) But this is the series that got me into manga reading. A little bittersweet.
-
Aw, I feel bittersweet aswell… It was a good ride, I enjoyed it a lot more till PCP didn't get an anime, but it was great over all.
-
And so we have the bittersweet confirmation.
I'm glad I made peace with it ending last chapter. I look forward to the ending, honestly, and I do hope it is an extended chapter. Perhaps we'll get an epilogue chapter of sorts in the future.
-
Damn no wedding? no epilogue? no nakai redemption? I feel somewhat dissapointed.
-
Thank you Obata and Ohba sensei for this great series. its been a very wonderful journey.
and I think this is a wonderful ending to this great manga. looking forward to their next series.
-
It was good but I would've like to see the wedding
-
It says a lot about their growth as artists that they didn't end it with a shitty epilogue in which you see how happy everyone is 10 years later.
-
I would have liked to see the wedding just to hear what each of the mangaka had to say. I thought it would be hilarious, however this ending is cute and nice in its own way, and feels quite complete on its own.
-
That was a solid last chapter for a solid manga series that, some flaws aside, was an enjoyable read. Mashiro doing all those things his uncle never could really added a nice unique touch to Bakuman, and him still fumbling for words and then finally finding the courage in that situation after all these years is a fine display of high quality, albeit irrealistic character development. I liked that. Quite endearing.
Following this series for a year and a half has been a pleasure. I wonder what's coming next.
And this was my fifth post to this thread during those 18 months.. The hell is wrong with my posting habits? -
It's oddly nostalgic. This is the first time I've been with a manga from when it first came out right until the very end.
This was a fine way to end the series. There're some flaws and issues, but it'd be in poor taste to rip on it right from the get go.
Any news on what Ohba and Obata are gonna do next?
-
I gotta say, this was a excellent series. It had it's problems, but it was a solid series that ended when it needed it end.
Good work I say, good work.
-
Very beautiful last chapter. Driving up to pick your fiancee with a Ferrari. Nice.
Like a few others have said I'm a little disappointed we aren't going to see the wedding but overall this was a good series. Maybe I'm jumping the gun a bit but I can't wait to see what Ohba and Obata will come up with next.Nobodyman, if you please, bring the epilogue~
-
Not the ending I wanted. Or I'm just getting so nostalgic for the series ending I'm starting to complain about nothing.
Well, it was fun. A really nice series, had fun with it. Thanks for the work, Author-man-guy-whatever.
-
What a pathethic ending.
-
What a perfect ending.
-
Spoilers just in case
! I kind of wanted to see another scene at the uncle's grave, but otherwise it was good.
-
Kinda anticlimatic since we didn't get to see the wedding. But ending it at Miho's house where the promise was made was a great place to end the series at.
-
! I gasped at the colored page… XD
I wondered… Wait.. When did Mashiro learn how to drive ?
I couldn't help but smile then, widely at that.
! Squeeee~!It was great :) -
Just re-reading the chapter, I think the worst thing about Bakuman is that Azuki's mother is the one Mashiro's uncle loved.
-
Couldnt have asked for a better ending.
-
That was great. I'm in the same boat as a few of you with this being the first series I read from chapter one until the end for a long series. I loved the ending, as I felt we didn't need an epilogue but I'm sure one may come if volume 20 is a tad short.
-
Weddings are incredibly dull things to watch anyway.
! What is there to see at them? A speech? We got that. A kiss? We got that… and their first one to boot. A tuxedo and a dress? We got that. Words of congratulation from all their friends? Been getting that for the last 5 chapters. A promise between rivals to keep on rivaling? Got that earlier too. And hey, we had Takagi and Kaya's wedding earlier in the series if you absolutely must see how this team would handle the words of friends, actual toasting, arguments, honeymoon, etc.
! There's nothing to see at a drawn out 5 chapter wedding party that we didn't already get, and with more significance.
! What else is there? A visit to his uncle's grave? Done that before. And we had his notes this time. Nakai's redemption? He's already losing weight, working with Hiramaru and will continue in the future. Hirimaru's and Aoki's wedding? Same deal as the main couple, weddings are boring for everyone except the couple, we've already seen one, and the engagement is the interesting part. Homewrecker bitch? Eh, everyone said they were friends with her and she'll keep trying hard. Eiji? Last chapter. Nanamine, dog boy, and glasses? Two chapters ago, they'll do stuff again in the future. Get an anime? Done. Next series? You know they'll make one. Success? They got it. Respect? They got it.
! The lives of every character both major and minor for the next twenty years? Use your imagination. Ship who you want to, fill in the blanks and assume that... Life goes on.
! This final chapter ties in pretty much perfectly to how it all started, particularly going back to Miho's house to do it... with the overhanging of notes from his uncle's ideals and regrets.
! It's how this series needed to end. All the other conflicts and ongoing plots were already laid out and accounted for in the other chapters. -
What a… what an ending.
-
Ohhhhhh snaaaaaaaaaaap… this was it?
...Oh well, we knew it was coming to an end soon and this was a really nice finale. Can't wait to see what the authors are going to do next. In the end this manga partially inspired me to chase my dreams no matter how hard they seem to achieve. :)
-
Fantastic ending. I'll post my thoughts about the series later, but this ending was definitely perfect. I get sick of endings where the authors feel the need to parade out all their characters one last time. This one brings us perfectly full circle without any fluff. Beautiful.
-
The only reason I'd like to see the wedding would be a couple of jokes between the other mangaka really. I'm not disappointed with the ending in the slightest, I just feel like there was some missed material there.
But you know what? It's completely okay that Ohba and Obata didn't. The ending as it stands is great. It's a lovely homage to the first chapter and that's what I was secretly hoping for. I'm not going to be nit picky, the series ended well.
-
What, that's it? Couldn't they at least have shown some of…

And come to think of it, trying to squeeze an epilogue for all the characters into the final chapter would have made it a rushed mess, unless they were to pull an FMA and have the final chapter alone being three times as long as the average chapter.

Lion-kun, don't rain at least on this parade. Freedom of speach be damned, give people some time to celebrate. Thank you.
I'll give you your one day of peace. Some time to bask in the afterglow. But I cannot let this terrible ending go. It infuriates me in ways that not even Negima's ending did.
Trust me when I say however I did not hate it because we didn't get "enough". Quite the opposite in a way lol.

Day by day,
post by post,
I value your opinion
less and less. -
I don't mind not seeing the wedding, but Takagi wasn't shown in not even one panel?
This chapter made me feel nothing. Absolutely nothing. Maybe because I never really cared about their weirdo romance. I'd rather see what happened to the other characters. Maybe we can expect a Volume 20 omake for that, the volume will need a lot of extra material to get close to 200 pages.
EDIT: Reading the whole thread made me change my mind a lot. The ending was actually nicely done. My personal taste is probably what made me feel nothing for it.
-
It was a very good serie , but the ending felt rushed and I felt they should have taken some more chapters to round it up
Also towards Eiji it could have been a bit better I guess but I am happy with the series
