Zoro cutting steel on Warship Island is just as canon as Zoro cutting steel in Alabasta. After all, Oda never defined canon.
That bothered the hell out of me

Oh come on that's a crock.
Canon=anything Oda drew or penned in the manga.
This has always been true for any manga to anime adaptions.
If you accept that the manga and anime are both canon to One Piece, then you run into massive problems.
ie Zoro cutting steel.
I think it's just general acceptance that anything in manga = canon and anything that isn't = not. Sometimes the mangaka may accept and take things from other sources and add them into their uni, but they have their own ideas and images for them or just don't really care enough to use it for their story. (Hyde from Gash Bell sort of comes to mind there)
As it stands with Bardock, Toriyama seems to like the idea of Goku's dad being there when Frieza blew everything up but that's it, thus the two panels. Anything from the Bardock TV special other than those panels that acknowledge Bardock is for the most part "possible" continuity, but more likely than not isn't.

I think Kaolino was being sarcastic/making fun of Luke Grounwalker's thing; it's only canon if the creator said so.
That should be the next DragonBall SD issue. The Cell Games.
God DAMN am I on a role with these predictions! (Check the FUNimation DVD Discussion II thread to see what I'm talking about)
So, what do the final five minutes of Dragon Ball Kai look like?
Zoro cutting steel on Warship Island is just as canon as Zoro cutting steel in Alabasta. After all, Oda never defined canon.
It's 'canon' to the anime, because it obviously happened right there on screen. It's just inconsistent with what is established in a later episode of the anime. It's an inconsistency, not a matter of canon between two separate entities (the comic and the TV adaption, that is).
Dragonball Kai was pretty pointless mostly, sure it cut off most of the agonizing filler material the Z did but you could easily have done that yourself with your dvds with a little thing called: The Fast-forward button.
Now had they redone the thing with gorgeous new animation, with no fillers at all, then I would have truly 'considered it ''a new series''.
Plus they pretty much skipped the first hundreds of chapters for whatever reasons and put them in retrospective mini-introduction to the series.
@Yuugi's:
So, what do the final five minutes of Dragon Ball Kai look like?
Pretty cool.
Also, is any group going to sub the last episode of Kai? I can't really give my opinion of the series as a whole if I haven't seen the whole series.
Or if anyone has a link to watch the episode, subbed or not, could you please tell me.
F](http://www.uk-anime.net/newsitem/Manga_Entertainment_clarify_Dragon_Ball_Z_speculation_-_no_UK_release_plans.html)alse Alarm.
Wish something could be settled about the rights. They'd make a lot of money, even though imho the UK is pretty animephobic these days, taking a lot of shows like DBZ and all of CNX off air helped do that, or certainly didn't do anything to help the situation.

Yes because I really want to be hitting the fast forward button every two minutes.
That sure is a enjoyable and convenient way to watch something.
Kai wasn't perfect, but it also gave us a modern replacement for the tinny 80s Japanese mono and an accurate, non garbage dub.

That sounds like a terrible way to try to enjoy something.
Just ordered the DBZ Complete Box Set. Should arrive on Tuesday at the latest, I'll update you guys when it does.

Cool! Enjoying finishing your re-read of the series!

Thanks, it's actually my first time reading DB. When I was a kid DBZ was all the rage and me and all my friends absolutely loved it, but being a relative newcomer when it comes to manga, I'd never read the series. I am now rectifying that. Seriously why did it take me so long to get into manga, I missed out so much greatness.

Well regardless I still stand by my opinion that the series was pointless, hardly accomplish much.
Kai wasn't perfect, but it also gave us a modern replacement for the tinny 80s Japanese mono and an accurate, non garbage dub.
Didn't the Japanese score return to the series anyway? That replaced the new music entirely?
And I don't really care much for the English dub, there's been improvements yes but not that much as far as I'm concerned.
I'm not a fan of the voices, especially King Kai still sounding like a bumbling retard instead of a wise old man.
I agree it was pointless, especially since it ended after Cell when it was always "this is TRUE Dragon Ball" "this is it how it was originally, but purer!"
I mean going from this:
!
! to this
!
! Is great sure, but the average casual viewer isn't really gonna notice that much.
All in all I just think it was some nice nostalgia for Japanese TV. And then when Funi heard of it, how could they not do it?
Why does King Kai still sound like a retard in Funi's version of Kai?
Why is Sean even voicing him still?
Why god why?
Eh I personally don't give a crap about dubs in general.
But even I can appreciate that the Kai dub has a much better translation and better voice actors for some characters (Freeza)
I am majorly bummed that they didn't do the Buu arc through. Fucking Toei always manage to shoot themselves in the foot.
Maybe in another couple of decades we can get a full re-done version that covers Buu.

Sean Schemmel is Chris Sabat's best friend. Therefore, he kept all his roles.
Schemmel's Goku I can live with. It's not bad in the Kai version.
But I will agree that while they were in the post-production of the dub they should've found a different VA for King Kai or at least had Sean change his voice for the character entirely.
I guess that voice was too much of a "fan-favorite" for the original dub fans and they wouldn't like the character if he changed. Which is why I think FUNi only re-casted if they absolutely had to. But IMO some of the re-casts sound a lot better than what they originally were.
Kinda pissed off right now. According to the Amazon website, I have refused the delivery. Um, no I didn't. The package is now on its way back to wherever it came from I guess. The only reason I can think of for this happening is that I (living in a holiday park because of my stepdad's job) have all my mail delivered to the main office. Thus, the office staff (who have previous for this sort of thing) have decided all on their own that the package must have been a mistake and sent the mail man on his merry way. Fuck.
The resemblance between the legend of the blue dragon and dragonball are uncanny.
The raw's out for the third part of that Bardock spinoff.

! It doesn't really end how I expected. I figured that Bardock would sacrifice himself to kill Chilled, and he'd wind up being the Super Saiyan who started the legend. Instead, both of them survived, it seems.
@bartholemew:

Didn't Toriyama work in/with both the game and anime?
I always thought that he provided the only the character designs. But of course I could be wrong.

! No, Chilled dies. He tells his men to warn his clan about the 'Saiyan with gold hair' then dies before he can be treated.
Can someone maybe give me a link as to where I can import the new Trunks/Bardock TV Special DVD from Shueisha?

Was pretty good. I wonder if we'll get more stories like this.
I guess it was kinda interesting for non canon
I liked it.
Wouldn't mind if Toei make a anime special out of it.
Say, who do you think was the strongest in the universe at the start of the series? It should be Dabura, right? Since Buu was still sealed. The Androids didn't exist yet, but it doesn't matter since Dabura was stronger than Cell.

Yeah I'd also like an anime special made of this.
So….
! Barbock instead gets knocked through time or space by Frieza's blast, gets transported to a planet with mild aliens, and kills Frieza's leotard-wearing midget relative becoming the first Super Saiyan. What?
This story seems a bit silly.
pretty much except the planet he goes back to is planet vegita itself.
you guys should check out dragonball multiverse
I normally dont like fancomics but this comic is just amazing. Basically its about different dragonball z universes coming to a tournament hosted by the vargas (an alien race) and namekians (who will give their dragonballs to the winner for a wish) and other wishes will be used to revive those who die in the tournament.
There are some interesting matchups and some interesting universes
like a universe where kakarot remembers his mission and eliminates everyone on earth, comes and gets picked up by raditz, then nappa and vegeta and kakarot and raditz go to namek and fight ginyu/ freeza and then vegeta discovers the secret of becoming super saiyan and kills freeza.
Another universe is where cell wins the fight against gohan and basically lives his days terrorizing the universe with his cell jrs
another one where super buu absorbs everyone and destroys everything and absorbs anytthing he deems fit or worthy of absorbtion.
this ones somewhat of a spoiler, but theres also a universe where vegeto never turned off his barrier inside of buu and so never defuses and remains fused forever.
its really cool so check it out

I was reading it for a while, but it's really only good when you first get into it and have a lot to read. Last time I was reading they where putting up about two pages a week. I haven't read in a couple of months and even so it probably hasn't gotten much farther.

its at 4 pages a week and its currently a special about bardock (but its actually good unlike every other special so far which has been complete and utter crap)
seriously its progressing real nicely now 4 pages a week is a good pace i guess

That was another thing that bugged me. Right after a fight instead of progressing with the story, they would put a movie, change it up a bit and fit it in one of the Universe's. While that is a good idea to explain putting movie characters in when they obviously don't fit in the manga Universe….well it's holding up the story! And when you get 4 pages a week, you really don't want a break like that.
The artwork is amazing sometimes but the story is crap
Multiverse is the worst thing ever.
The concept behind it was good, but like I said it's set up takes forever. Anime and Manga fans get angry enough when tournament arcs last too long. This story is one giant tournament with 4 pages being released a week. And then you get their take on the movies fitting into different universe's right after a fight when you want to see what will happen next.
Im still waiting for Magical Troubleshooting Crossover Fighting Tournament ULTRA to update with its final two chapters.
Its been about 10 years now.
But hey, Ranma Hearts of Ice finished eventually, so anything is possible.
Say, who do you think was the strongest in the universe at the start of the series? It should be Dabura, right? Since Buu was still sealed. The Androids didn't exist yet, but it doesn't matter since Dabura was stronger than Cell.
Devilman (j/k)
Seriously, Dabura probably is it if you go from the very beginning I suppose. He's obviously stronger than Frieza/King Cold and all other possible threats would not either exist yet (Gero-made Androids/Cell, since there would still be the likes of #8) or be sealed away. (Buu)
Edit: As for the Bardock story…I sort of expected him to die somehow instead of surviving after all that. I guess he's a legend being that he's there before the Saiyans even appeared on Vegeta but that's all I can really say about that. And that ancestor/relative of Frieza seemed a bit strange: wouldn't he have transformation powers to handle something that powerful as a Super Saiyan? I guess not all had it...considering King Cold never TFed.
Well didn't they only transform to suppress their power? If King Cold needed to constantly go into battle or fight strong enemy's maybe he was just always in his regular, non-suppressed form.
This Bardock story doesn't even fit in the original plot, unless Bardock somehow returns to the future without any memories of what happened to him. Because if he died in the past, then Goku wasn't born, etc.
What are you talking about. Bardock was sent to the past after Goku was born.
What are you talking about. Bardock was sent to the past after Goku was born.
Yes, but him being sent to the past will completly change the future, as Bardock eventually dies in the past. Therefore he doesn't exist anymore in the future, so Goku won't be born.
edit:
Nevermind, there probably were 2 Bardock because of that.
Of couse he'll exist. That makes no sense.
He's making a classic Time Traveler mistake.
