What did you expect him to do? Kill an Admiral?
He already destroyed thousands of marines, and literally single handily opened a path for his crew to help Luffy. Not to mention his defeat of Akainu as a testament to his strength. Yes, he did get back up, the guy has crazy will power….but he was utterly defeated.
As I sad, this is not the face of a man merely annoyed
Also, its what he stood for in the war. A great pirate that cares for his nakama, and will go through all lengths to defend them. In all senses he lived up to his hype, but he was just one man tanking. He was seriously getting attacked from all angles. The admirals and other top fighter were strategically attacking and falling back when needed. Many factors are not considered, and if any of them tried to take on Whitebeard one on one, the fight would be short lived. It is important to take in the fact of who Whitebeard was and what he stood for, not how powerful he was in the first.

I expected him to hold his own against an Admiral, just like another legendary old man: Silvers Rayleigh. I expected him to be able to fend one of them off. He couldn't muster that. I expected him to knock Blackbeard unconscious with that quake to the face. He did not do that. This was a character hyped as the strongest man in the world. Sengoku flipped the fuck out, saying he had the power to destroy the world. He didn't come anywhere near living up to that kind of hype, I don't care what he "stood for." Being a nice man doesn't merit being one of the most feared men in the world.
Andyou can keep showing pictures of Akainu bloodied all you want. How was he afterward? Ah, right, fine enough to keep chasing Luffy, shrug off multiple division commanders, etc. etc. etc. Oh, and he melted Whitebeard's face off. So, the strongest man in the world, now; in his big revenge attack on the man who killed the "precious son" he came to save, lost part of his face, and failed to take the man out at all.
THAT is why is a huge disappointment to me.

I'm thinking a past-prime Whitebeard did pretty good. Takes a blade to his chest and still puts of a fight against two of the powers.
Though I think the most impressive during the war, as well as WB, were Akainu and Luffy.

I don't get why you guys dislike Whitebeard so much. He stood up for his nakama, he wasn't useless. He took down many marines, made way for his nakama to escape, beat the crap outta akainu, he's one of the most epic man in op. He's old, and he's got his disease, plus the fact that he's still human. And his flashbacks made me cry >_> a bit.
Whitebeard is awesome.

What was his reputation? What did people call him? Strongest Man in the World, that's right. Now, when his formal rival's number 2 fought an Admiral, how did it go? He did pretty well, that's right!
Now, when Whitebeard, former rival of Gold Roger, the captain of the man who held his own against an Admiral, went against an Admiral, how did it go?
Well, he fought Aokiji, and… well, one of his commanders had to save him after Aokiji was about to freeze him, because Whitebeard's Ambition couldn't beat Aokiji's logia defense.
Then he fought Kizaru... Who held him off with such little trouble he was able to snipe a small key from Luffy's hand while dealing with him. Not looking so great.
Okay, okay, but then he... got falcon punched in the gut by Akainu. But he had a second chance! And he was pissed, then too! I mean, he... lost half of his head... and Akainu was fine afterward...
Well shit.
Well, he did kick Blackbeard's ass! Except, Blackbeard got right back up, and he and his men promptly killed Whitebeard. Wait, doesn't Blackbeard take more damage than normal?! How did the Strongest Man in the World fail to KO someone with no defense to speak of?! That, my friends, was the final nail in the coffin of hype.
And then Blackbeard promptly power-jacked him.
I don't care about his personality, frankly, because there was nothing special about it. Romanticism and friend-lust aren't exactly new concepts in OP, a character can't be based around those things alone. There were a few cool things about him here and there, but nothing meriting the hype he's riding, and he certainly did not live up to his in-story reputation in the least. Hell, all his fruit power managed to do was take out one guy with a name (who wasn't able to establish himself as an impressive person to KO), and cause alot of collateral damage. His matches against actual characters did not go well.

Well, what can I say, that's the reason people admire him. I have to agree that he couldn't fight well in this war, but why are you being such a hair-splitter? (dont know if it's okay to use this word, I searched it on google)

As a character, he was ho-hum. Standard OP world veteran fare. My point is he didn't live up to his in-story hype, which made him very disappointing. Especially after a badass old guy like Rayleigh. I mean, damn, his appearance had hype behind it. Sengoku flipped the fuck out about how he could destroy the world. I expected a show from that guy. I mean, I got it, but not the show I was expecting.

He used to be the strongest man.
He gained that title after Roger's death.
But now he is old, sick. As Marco said, his strength has greatly decreased as well as his health condition. Rayleigh, Garp, on the other hand, have not suffered any diease.
He has been massively weaken before the war, and after getting stabbed, he was weaken even more.
There is no reason to blame him.
Even Crocodile said WB is in such a weak and pathetic condition, completely different from before, when he defeated Croc.
WB himself admitted that he is no longer the strongest man, and said no one can be the strongest man forever.
So what, I am impressed that an old man who had to live with surgeon devices could fight like a beast. -

The fact that his personality couldn't balance that out didn't help, either.

So that is just your personal and subjective and biased feeling, having great expectation on a weakened wounded sick old dying man. What you give isn't logic, just what you feel. You can't convince anyone to feel the same. So don't whine about him and hope you can make others vote against him by any mean of campaigns come from that biased mind. What WB did surpassed my expectation on him, as well as many other audiences'. Blame yourself for expecting too much from an old sick wounded man.
After him getting betrayed and stabbed, many people even felt how could he fight with that and saw it as a obvious proof that he will die.

Whitebeard's overly manliness and toughness made some
shallowpeople forget how uncomfortable they used to feel when they see a man getting stabbed and still walking. Hope they don't need to get stabbed and feel the experience themselves to regain their common sense. Not even the Sh, not even Zoro, ever fought while having a sword through their stomach.
Manlybeard was too much of a man to show any emotion of suffering, so somehollowwhiners failed to get the ideas of how terrible his pain was.
Most of characters I've seen getting stabbed, are either dead or lost of consciousness or incapable to walk normally. So from what that sick Wb did, I am deeply impressed."Whoa whoa… the old man... he got stabbed by Squardo... wasn't that too much for him? Shouldn't get any more injures than that, otherwise how will he fight? He is already sick. Look like he is going to collapse at any moment... Wait... What the fuck is this? He gets shot, frozen, lasered, magma-fisted, stabbed and he is walking yet?"
