Nami's dub voice is good so I don't want to seem like I'm belittling her. But, better than the Japanese VA? There's no way I can agree with that.

And why so? Nami's Japanese actress isn't particually special.
I like her. Especially when it comes to exasperation over Luffy's latest stupidity.
Christian's quite good though, but not as good as Okamura.
-
I consider them to be on par. Actually, I never really thought of which one I like better, lol. It's like, whatever, they both do their jobs for me.
-
I liked Luci Christian's Nami the moment I first heard it.
-
Brina's Chopper took me a bit to get used too. Sonny's Usopp was great from Day 1, though.
-
Brina's Chopper simply wasn't as great back in Skypeia, but now she's made him sound a lot better an less like a girl.
And I agree with you on Usopp. Very well casted.
-
Also, about the very next set. My YT account has been unblocked, so I can start uploading clips again. I know to get The Gum Gum Storm, that's a given.
Anything else people want me to get?16 characters of Happiness Punch.
-
I still find Japanese Zoro to be better than Sabat.
Although i do love Sabat, he doesnt seem exactly perfect.
-

I actually like Brina's Chopper, but I guess he does sound a little worse than Skypeia.
And Sonny's Usopp is very awesome.

Chris Sabat is god, and his Zoro reflects his divine abilities.

Chris Sabat is god, and his Zoro reflects his divine abilities.
Only when we're not counting DBZ and Kuwabara.
-
DBZ, yeah, as he had not tapped into his godlike magic yet. Perhaps he had not yet found the Talent Talisman that now acts as the source of his great powers. Kuwabara I'd argue. His straight-up acting was decent as the show went on, and the Japanese voice was just as wierd.
-
I find that Chris Sabat is "King" not God….
-
Sabat is a great actor. One of my favorite Funimation actors, too. I think I'm one of the few people who actually liked his Vegeta, Piccolo, and Kuwabara.
Just saying.
-
His Kuwabara was epic.
-
Who hast speak ill of Shigeru 'Buggy/Raditz/Pilaf/Garlic Jr.' Chiba in the role of Kuwabara?!
If Sabat's King, Norio Wakamoto is Emperor, I guess that makes Daisuke Gôri God? :p

Does that make Masako Nozawa Queen and Mayumi Tanaka Empress? =P
-
WAIT!
Shigeru Chiba was Kuwabara?!?!?!?! WOW! See, just goes to show how little of a Yu Yu Fan I am. I mean, I knew Koenma was Mayumi Tanaka (Luffy), and I knew Hiei was Mr. 3, Viral from Gurren Lagann and Link from the Legend of Zelda series, but… WOW!... Now I can just picture Kuwabara saying "DORAGON BAKX ZA MOOOOOVEEEEEES!"
Anyway, I think most of the voices are On-par with the Japanese, considering the Language barrier, and are the best English-voices the characters could have, but I can't think of many that actually surpass the Japanese. Though I have to say, if anyone actually fits that description, it's J. Michael Tatum's Enel. I know Japanese Enel is Sephiroth, but still... Tatum just took that role and made it his bitch...
-
I found Eneru's Japanese VA boring honestly. His english one was just godly. He nailed his character down perfectly.
As for mr3… They are both really annoying.
-
Sabat is a great actor. One of my favorite Funimation actors, too. I think I'm one of the few people who actually liked his Vegeta, Piccolo, and Kuwabara.

I liked all of those, and on that note, all the DBZ voices were amazing. The fact they sounded nothing like the originals is a good thing… the japanese VAs sucked >.>

The Japanese VA's Sucked? OK, then most of the Cast of One Piece sucks in Japanese too...
I find it odd how Dragon Ball Z's Dub gets a pass with most fans nowadays, but those same fans will turn around and complain about the Naruto, Bleach, and FUNimation One Piece Dubs. It confuses the hell out of me. -

Nope, OP VAs are fine in both english and japanese. And I don't like Naruto or Bleach, but I have seen both those shows in english and japanese and find the VAs to all be fine. That said, yes, the japanese DBZ voice actors suck :P
Edit @Bendario: Agreed, it does sound like a little girl. I hated Gohan's and Piccolo's too

I'm gonna avoid writing up the lengthy rant and just resign myself to the fact that you're entitled to your opinion…

That's the generic "I haet the DBZ Jpn Ver" thing that's thrown out there.
His voice is natural sounding if you watch DB up through Z in order.
But the biggest problem with the English version of DBZ is the script. They really killed it. in the dub, Goku sounds like a White knight fighting for all that is good and just. That's not Goku.
Here's an actual example:
Japanese Version:
Vegeta: I'm an Elite and you're nothing but a little Low-class worm. The strong elite are kept to fight while the weak are sent to pitiful little planets like this. And now you're going to die at my hand.
Goku: Well, if being a "Low-class worm" is why I got sent to Earth, then I'm glad. Here, we believe a "Low-Class" can beat an "Elite" if he works hard enough.
Vegeta: Heh, you can Try! Now get read to die!Same Exact Scene in the English Dub:
Vegeta: This is your last chance to live. you're very strong, perhaps you could Join me? Think about it Kakarott, we could conquer countless planets together! We'd be unstoppable.
Goku: Sorry, but that kind of thing isn't for me, and besides, there doesn't seem to be much job security as your partner.
Vegeta: Heh, too bad. This fundamentally changes Vegeta's character. In the Japanese version, he's a cold asshole who believes there's a clear divide between "Elite" and "Low-Class", the elite step on the low-class, and that's it. He never offers Son a chance to join him, thinking him too pitiful. He even killed Nappa BECAUSE He lost to Son. Now in the English version, why did he Kill Nappa now? It makes no sense.
The whole series' script was RIFE with stuff like that.

FINALLY SOME ONE WHO GETS IT.
Sorry, I just had to say it. I get so irritated at the people out there trying to belittle these dubs, because they don't deserve it.

Now, I haven't seen DB or DBZ, so I'm not entitled to make a judgment of either version. I will say that when you aren't used to the Japanese, the "feminine" voice may come off as a little jarring at first, but is it not the same for Luffy? I think you really have to watch the series from the beginning before you can really judge.
So I eventually plan to watch the DB series, and am pretty shocked that Funi mistranslated this compared to their newer dubs. Is the above example one of the few, or is the entire series rewritten? I'm trying to decide which version I should watch.
Or should I just start with Kai?
Sorry, a bit off topic, but while we are on the topic of DB…

The DB franchise is FUNi's Big black mark on their record. It was their first series that they got back when it was general practice to edit this stuff as much. Also, the voice cast really sucked in the beginning. They've gotten better over time, but Freeza's voice will always be terrible in the dub. They basically did to Freeza what the Dubbies feel the Japanese Version does to Son Goku. Which kinda makes them hypocrites to an extent.
But the difference is, Masako Nozawa (Goku's VA) actually makes her voice sound masculine and adult. If you watch the whole series from DB through to Z in Japanese, the natural progression of Goku's voice as he grows up makes sense. And whether you feel she succeeded or not, His voice actress tries for a masculine voice.
Freeza's English voice is just Linda Young's normal "Old Lady" voice. Watch Yu Yu Hakusho and compare her performance as Genkai to Freeza. It's the same voice, she doesn't change it at all.
Compare Goku's voice in DB to Kureha's in the Japanese Version of One Piece. One sounds like the actress is trying to sound masculine (the same Way Luffy sounds in Japanese) and the other actually SOUNDS like an old lady. The Script was as bad as my above example all the way up to the Boo arc, when they suddenly decided to start writing a decent script. Freeza was given homoerotic dialog towards Goku (He actually calls him "Big Boy" in conversation a few times) and Goku's Carefree Naive guy who likes to fight Personality was changed to a White Knight who fights for truth, Justice, and the American way.
Imagine if Luffy's motivations were changed. Imagine he wanted to become Pirate King to save the world. Imagine that during Alabasta, he was interested in Saving everyone like Vivi. Imagine during Jaya, Luffy attacks Bellamy because of all of the innocent people Bellamy hurt, rather than to get The old man's gold back. Imagine he wanted to Fight In Arlong Park, not to save Nami, but to save East Blue. Imagine instead of making comments about Nami and having to "Destroy The room she hated so much" he made comments like "You've been terrorizing The people of Cocoyashi, but not anymore. I'm the light in the darkness that will stop you. I'm the the hopes of all of the citizens of East Blue. I'm LUFFY!". Also, imagine in this version, He's not "Monkey D. Luffy". He's just "Luffy". He's no longer allowed to have a Surname. (You will never hear them call him "Son Goku" in the any English version of DBZ, barring ONE video game)
That's what they did to the Characters of Dragon Ball Z, most especially Son Goku.I recommend watching DB in Japanese, then choose whether you want to watch DBZ or DBK. they have the same story, just DBK has most of the filler cut out.
-
I'm not defending funimation's script changes, only their voices, which were amazing.
Though I will say I still enjoyed their DBZ even with the script changes…

Starring Sean Schemell as Goku
Tiffany Voulmer as Bulma
Linda Young as Freeza (Sorry, Frieza, this is the dub)
And Christopher R. Sabat as EVERYONE ELSE.Also, in the Japanese Version, Freeza has a male Voice. He was played by the guy who played "Eric the Whirlwind" in One Piece. In English he sounds like like an old woman. How is that any different than your complaint about Goku's voice in the Japanese Version?

Thanks for the detailed response. This helps me a lot. I'll do what you suggested and watch DB in Japanese first when I get around to it.
EDIT: I've heard Freiza's Japanese voice. Same guy who plays Eric, but my absolute favorite role for the VA is Mayuri Kotsuchi in Bleach. He plays an awesome wicked scientist, so to know that the same person who plays Genkai in Yu Yu Hakusho replaces such an awesome voice… Not that Genkai's V English VA was bad, but she wasn't awesome either.

First off all, it's "Freeza" please don't spell it wrong. Second, She's a really REALLY Good actress. Her Genkai is amazing. She just didn't fit Freeza's voice at all. They gave him a female voice actress, who didn't try to male-up her voice at all, and made homoerotic comments about caressing balls and how Son is her "Big Boy". All she needed to do was male up her voice just a LITTLE Bit, but instead we get her Generic Little old lady voice.

Sorry, as I said I'm not familiar with the series yet so forgive me for any name mispellings…
I wasn't belitting her voice acting skills, but she never really impressed me as Genkai. I probably just need to hear more of her roles though, or rewatch Yu Yu Hakusho, as it's been a while and I wasn't that good with judging VAs back then.

Sorry, I didn't mean that to come off as rude or anything. FUNi changed a lot of character names, so people like me see "Frieza", "Tien", and "King Kai" the same way One Piece Fans see "Zolo", "Roguetown" and "The Merry Go".

Lol, don't worry, I knew what you meant and understand. I didn't realize the spelling was changed until I read your post above my other one. It's similar to the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise and how I get annoyed as hell whenever anyone uses the crappy 4Kids dub names.
The question I have is why though. What's wrong with Freeza? Just because it almost looks like "freeze"?
Makes me glad that Funi has straightened out with their dubs now and doesn't continue going the 4Kids route.

I don't know why they felt like changing his name's spelling, but it's supposed to be "Freeza"
His name is Freeza, His brother's name is Coola and their Father's name is King Cold. See a Pattern? Also, you're right. "Joey Wheeler" pisses me off. His name is "Katsuya Jonouchi" -

The name changes in YGO made no sense. Especially names like Tea (Anzu). It gets even worse in the newer series GX and 5D's. It's like 4Kids gets a kick out of making up the most random, stupid names they can pull out of their asses. (I lol'd when the Japanese version of 5D's named a character Leo, the same dub name of the character Rua.)
To try and stay on topic a little here, has there been a release date announce for Seventh Voyage yet?
-
…Hiei was Mr. 3, Viral from Gurren Lagann and Link from the Legend of Zelda series,
…Wait, Mr. 3 is Viral and Link? I mean, I could definitely hear Link in Viral's voice, (especially at the end of that whole alternate universe-sequence in episode 26) but I never would have guessed that he was also Mister freaking Three.

Yup. Hiei from Yu Yu Hakusho, Viral from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, and Link from Zelda are all played by the same guy who played Mister Freaking Three.
Hard to believe huh? Guy's got great range.
And May 11? How do we know that?! Where did it come from?! Is it Season Two Voyage 7, or Season 3 Voyage 1?

May 11th.
Another two month period, eh? Ah well, still not too bad. Thanks.
And I knew Mr. 3 was played by the same guy who did Viral. He also plays Ikkaku from Bleach.
Mr. 3 has a much different tone of voice, so it's hard to tell. But if you listen closely to when Mr. 3 screams and loses his cool, you will hear traces of his Ikakku/Viral voice. That;s why I actually like his Japanese voice, despite how annoying it can get at times. Hie always does a good job with the loud screams, lol.
EDIT: Wait, are we talking about dub Mr. 3 or Japanese Mr. 3?

Well, that's what the solicitations over on Mania.com say, anyway. And judging from those, May will probably end up being a pretty awesome month;
FMA Brotherhood part 1, the third DBZ Dragon Box, Dragonball season 4, (though I'm not buying that as I'm hoping for a Dragon Box of that too) Dragon Ball Kai and One Piece… admittedly, the one OP-set that's pure filler, but still... And it's Season Two Seventh Voyage. -

The best thing about that Goat Sex cover is that Usopp is on it.

I agree with you. Also that Chopper is in there with his complete cuteness makes it the best thing IMO of the cover too.

Any word on if Funi is going to throw something extra in to make this set worth while?

I don't think they're going to do any set extras… To them, it's just another box set. From what I gathered from the Warship Island commentary, they don't know filler from canon.

Old man running after the most child-like of the strawhats with a sinister expression on his face.
I see.

It's been so long since I've seen that damn arc I don't even remember why it was called Goatsex to begin with…
Old man running after the most child-like of the strawhats with a sinister expression on his face.
I see.
Everything you say is gold. Just getting that out there.
