I always wanted to read "The Naruto of the Seinen demographic" as my friend called it. Is it worth it?
GANTZ
-
-
16charactersof NOPE.
-
But I heard it has crappy vampires, lame characters and gore and nudity for the sake of pandering to horny teens. Not even for trainwreck value?

Well the earlier arcs might be fun to read but not the later ones and especially the last one.

It had that fun gore fest at the start but then it turned into pretentious pandering for rebellious teenagers.
-
I thought by two chapters he meant two chapters in the battle then we got a few more that followed. Feels like this ending will be super rushed. Not sure how I feel about it.

One chapter is about a blowjob.

Except there's no one left willing to endure 100-200 more chapters of this garbage. YJ has Kingdom and Terraformers now, this shit can finally be laid to rest.
If you don't like the series don't read it. There is a lot of content to cover but I would like to see this series animated again. Some of the battles would be amazing into anime.
-
I don't know, Gantz might just be worth it for chapters 369 to 372, for being the dumbest and most pretentious thing I've ever seen in anything.
I swear, the philosophical aspects of this garbage are so half-assed and painful to read, I have this permanent image of the author wearing black nail polish and writing bad poetry while coming up with news ideas for his manga. -

Thankfully, unlike you, YJ isn't going to carry this series for 200 more chapters.
Thank heavens.
No really though, it just overstayed its welcome by far. It should have ended long ago, not go on for more.
-
He's going pearl harbor on earth with the mothership.
Oh I see…. seems like dealing with that last guy still won't eliminate all the danger. Kind of a disappointing "last big bad" considering there's 2 chapters left (Although I do appreciate this one not being a Computer Generated mess)
I hope the alien wins and just kills of the entire planet, because the characters in GANTZ kinda have it coming.
-
Unfortunately I think Gantz will have a downer ending where humanity survives.
-
The best ending would be all the gantzers taking a gun to the mouth and calling it a die. This thing has been garbage for years and the type of thing that makes "adult content" seem the most juvenile and least mature of all.
-
I still like Gantz, I just think it's suffered from long manga syndrome. I think it lost it's brilliance a bit when there was one final threat. I really enjoyed learning about the different threats of aliens, especally Buddha statue aliens who were boss and the Renaissance statue aliens who were a lot like the Angels from Dr. Who.
-
Gantz suffers from a great setup, shock and awe… but almost zero payoff. An author is only as good as his entire product.
Gantz relied on mystery for quite some time..
..how the "game" worked
...how the passing of knowledge from other players ensured better chances of survival
....where the aliens came from
....who's gonna die next
.....the big picture
Almost all these questions, if they were answered, all had reaaaaaallly lame outcomes.
-
The coolest part, to me, was that people could slowly work toward purchasing new weapons and upgrades with their points (culminating with giant friggin' mechas). Different guns were more special back then, and now everyone is just swinging swords around like motherfuckers while carrying massive ass cannons.
-
I really wanted to start this manga but a lot of folks are saying the past few arcs make it a downer, is it still worth a read or will i be disappointed.

Definitely worth it.
The last couple arcs have definitely sucked, but I still enjoy reading it. I definitely enjoy it more than Naruto.
Its a fun/addictive read too. I got caught up in around a week when I first started reading it.Prepare for outrageous amounts of sex and fanservice though.
-
And this thread will never reach 100 pages.
-
Don't jinx it. The ending might be so outrageous that it spawns a tempest of anger and fury even worse than what we've gone through thus far.
-
I want Kei to be sqashed by the train in the underground station in the end. its the olnly way to end the series
-
382 spoiler is out. Following chapter is the last issue with the magazine cover and a cover color page.
! Gonde defeats the team one by one. Katou joins in. Gonde is about to kill him before Kurono does a final attack at his eye.

My face when that takes up an entire fucking chapterHow the hell is he going to wrap anything up in two chapters with this pace?
-
I can't believe Oku actually remembered the vampires. Caught me totally off-guard.
Too bad he never explained anything about what's up with them whatsoever.
-
That forum post made my day.
Seriously that was pretty funny.

Wait… WHAT? Am I being bamboozled?

This chap was okay.

I guess vampires just exist in that world. I don't think they needed an origin. I always felt they were a huge distraction initially unless he was going to make the vampires aliens too.
-
Way too many wasted pages, but I have to admit, Kurono going Hanma "The Ogre" Yuujirou on his ass was pretty cool to see.
Damn Kei boy you've been lifting.
-
are you guys gonna read the spoilers for the very last chapter? I have controversial feelings about it..
-
He'll just kill the guy and go get a BJ.
Or he'll die while doing so.
-
Not yet confirmed spoiler (thx to GAT-X252)
! Kurono pierces the giant head and wins the battle.
Kurono and the others are send to earth inside a small spaceship.
The ship ends up drifting in the ocean but somehow they manage to return alive.
! Happy end. -

I always expected an Outer Limits ending for Gantz. Played for comedy.
-
Spanish scanlation http://mangatopia.net/main/2013/06/es-gantz-0383-final/
English one should be out soon
-
Best end
I hope Berserk ends like this(in my lifetime)
Bravo Oku, Bravo -
Yup just read it in spanish, totally not the type of ending I expected for Gantz. Oh well, it needed to end long ago.
-
[hide]Hahaha that's just the end of some sentai series' episode with no continuity.[/hide]
-
And that's all folks.
-
are you guys thinking of reading again the last tankobon and see how it feels?
-
Probably the worst ending to any series I've ever read. Glad it's over with though. What a severe drop in quality over these past few years.
-
It feels great finally seeing a closure to the story, it is one of the first manga series I ever started following (it might have been the first one now that I think about it). I think Oku was able to provide a decent closure, I feared the worst so it is a relief.
I hope Berserk ends like this(in my lifetime)
Nicely put. I sometimes wonder about that too. I hope guys like Miura and Oda can stay healthy so we are able to see them finish their work.
-
I was kinda hoping for a Cannon God Exxaxxion end, but alas, Oku doesn't have fraction of Sonoda's talent.
-
Last chapter's out at Mangatopia and…
wow, if that's not a mediocre ending, i don't know what it is -
It's a shame when you stop caring about a manga and only read it because it's there. Gantz started as a good sci-fi action thriller then became a bad summer action movie. Pretty to look at but little to no substance.
Oh, Gantz. In the words of Marlon Brando, you coulda had class. You coulda been a contender. You coulda been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what you are.
-
Worst ending ever?
At least it's finished in the end, the last years it have been getting worse and worse. Anyway, I prefer a bad ending that a neverending nonsense, ok Kubo? :wassat: -
Worst ending ever? Nah not at all. Unlike Jisatsu Circle at least everyone lives lol.
-
Loool, well that was a shitty ending. Talk about a series that lost any sense of direction it once had. That was such a generic, rushed, bland ending that could have been the ending of any series. No character conflict was resolved, nothing of great importance was really accomplished, it just ended really. But why am I complaining? What a shitty series, good riddance.
-
A piece of shit of an ending for a piece of a shit of a series, so all is good with the karmic balance.
-
Thank you Oku, Thank you! Thank you for putting what once was a semi-good Scifi-Horror seinen manga out of its horrible, limping misery. Too bad you didn't go out with a bang, though. I've been waiting for something quite ridiculous ever since the chapter hilariously named Deus ex Machina.
… Bleghhh.
