You have legendary balls (or ovaries).
The kind spoken of only in legends of days gone by.
I totally respect your courage.

…Huh?
Don't get what you're saying.
What?
No Centrist?
Or liberatarian options?
:|
oh well, i like my guns
so conservative it is
To hell with both.
I don't count myself as either.
Socially liberal.
Fiscally conservative.
Economically socialist.
Basically, the state should run all industry to ensure we have a balanced federal budget and pay for gay weddings for everyone. :)
Mostly half and half, but definately more toward Liberal.
And well, I started that Religion thread, and that one ended up fine- I'm sure this will be fine if people will behave. :)
I voted "Moderate"… I tend to be more liberal towards most things, but I have some things which I'm conservative about... and Toushiro, where in SF are you? I used to live on Divisadero@Fulton... like 5 blocks from Haight... I haven't been back to the Bay since I moved to Texas... :getlost:
Moderate.
Seriously. Politics these days…or ever...is just a childish game.
Both on the executive and the public level.
Um, I'm watching this thread. If it gets racey, I will not hesitate to close the crap out of it.
That being said, I'm a registered libertarian, but I've got some liberal leanings as well, so I voted for that. Personally, I think that the government should just kinda butt out. >_>
Y'know what? I'll just add libertarian and centrist options to the poll. :-p
Conservative. I hate when everyone tries to be a didactic loud-mouth.
I'm liberal all the way. I have no problem voting for a moderate, centrist, or even conservative Democrat but definitely not a Republican!!!!
I bestow upon y'all the wise words of the infinitely wise poet Bukowski.

I'm tied between liberal and socialist, I guess. I believe certain things should be decided democratically, however the democracy has many holes and flaws. Socialism can bring problems like dictators, yes, but it can help in crisis moments.
EDIT: Yeah Roz, the poem says true.
shouldn't it be Anarchist, Liberal, Moderate, Conservative, Reactionary?
No.
Anarchist, Liberal, Moderate, Conservative, Fascist.
True conservatives don't want government control though, so Fascism and Anarchy don't really belong there.
Vote Nader, Guys!!!
The only issue I have with Centrist and Moderate is that people have their own view of what the middle of the road is. So one persons middle is another persons idea of left/right wing views.
Heck, on the O'Reilley factor's mail segment, he will frequently read a letter calling him a leftist, followed by another calling him too right wing. Often times referring to the exact same segment. So defining middle of the road is near impossible, because everyone thinks the center is at a different spot. (Oh and just for the record, Liberal and Conservative are viewpoints, Libertarian is a party.)
I call myself moderate more as a decleration of self.
People are more likely to sit and listen than if you tell them your left or right.
Less assumptions are made, less rabid bias is thrown at you.
According to politicalcompass.com, I am almost exactly in the middle, which sounds about right to me. Moderate all the way. Whoo. In Canadian politics, I match up closest to the Bloc Quebecois by far - a problem, since the Bloc only runs in Quebec, and it's separatist, which I am not.
Bleh, I hate politics. Different sides put so much of their own spin on things with their own sources of information, that's it's difficult to discern what the truth is, at least not until a few years down the line when the situation can be looked back on..and even then, it's always up for debate.
I'm more or less a moderate liberal but have some conservative values.
Liberal on most issues (if not all.)
OBAMA '08
I like greens, but it's a wasted vote.
I agree with most liberal agenda's.
Guilliani vs Hilary/Obama, I would vote for the Dem, police state scares me, they want to outlaw i-pods while crossing the street…
However, Huckabee vs Hilary/Obama, I would vote Republican, because I honestly think he's the best candidate for president who lacks enough popularity to run.
Also, funny story, I accidentally joined the independant party thinking it was the same type of party like in my birth-country.. turns out they gave me a call and asked me not to vote for a hispanic candidate because we want to keep their people out of office.. I felt so dirty afterwards.. I changed party's the nxt day, but I still scrub and the dirty won't go away.
My tutor says there's no hope for a liberal America now, since they killed Kennedy and that he was the last hope for a liberal America (so even now, even if a Democrat comes to office, it doesn't matter).
for the sake of labeling, I am a conservative republican

Your tutors a nut.
Even "liberal" American parties would be right-wing in Europe.
A lot of the basic assumptions in America– generally the ones about small government, strong regional powers, and the guns-butter balance-- are very different from the basic assumptions elsewhere.
Don't blame me! I voted for Kucinich!

Yeah i am with you on that one, ill get into it come next presidential election
Well, this whole liberal/conservative thing always makes me feel very dumb. But I have always voted The Green League (surprise surprise!) and according to Wikipedia it's… oh, it doesn't say. It's a centre left party, anyway.
Facism isn't an actual part of the political spectrum. Reactionary is.
I am conservative, because I hate women, gays, Jews, and the arts.
Actually, it's because the Liberal Party of Canada are a bunch of scumbags. And most liberals that I've met are hypocrites.
I don't like people crying about guns
I'm nothing, and I'll probably always stay as far away from politics as possible (although my father is a local politician). I know all this political stuff is necessary or whatever, but it still makes me think of kids from high school hanging out in their "groups".
Not everyone is like this, but it seems to me that there are some people who believe political affiliation is the most important thing in the world. Full-grown adults who are always finding something to argue about and dislike anyone from the other "group".
It just seems kind of lame to me, so I'll just stay with the "group" that I think is important (my family, pets, and friends).
I'm not for any political group I'm more for the rights of the individual
so my vote changes from issue to issue to issue rather rapidly. (and LION I agree about the Canadian Liberal Party…...facepalm)
I really dislike politics, I dislike politicians even more, and I'm beyond tired of the constant bickering between sides over everything. It's so polarizing that people are too busy trying to support their side and "win" the argument to listen to anything else. And I hate being preached at or told what I should or shouldn't think, even if the viewpoint being shoved down my throat is one I might otherwise agree with. Most of all, I hate being expected to label myself; yeah, yeah, say what you will, as soon as the word "liberal" or "conservative" come out of your mouth, people have a label on you. It colors their perception of you (and I'll admit to being no better in that regard; it's a hard thing not to do) and I think it leads to a lot of unnecesary conflicts because politics isn't about serving the people, it's about being on the winning team. Frankly, I'm sick of all of it, both sides have completely lost any perspective but their own agenda and will color any statistic or data to support their side of things, and shut everything else out. I want nothing to do with either party and I keep my personal views to myself so it's still possible to view me as a person and not "one of those people".

That….is everything I meant to say with my first post.
Bravo Bevin.

So true. Everybody gets labeled, even if they don't outright say "I'm a liberal/conservative."
At my school, if you say you're a Liberal, it's "Okay." But if you say you're conservative, it's "ZOMG BURN TEH WITCH!"
There's a heavy anti-right-wing bias in North America today.
Plus, a lot of people identify themselves as left-wing simply because they hate authority and they listen to Green Day.

Well, I would say this depends on where you live in North America. I dislike political labels, but if I had to choose to have people think of me as a conservative or a liberal, I would choose conservative. Conservatives are generally looked at more positively where I live. Here it's much less trouble to have people think of you as a conservative, even if you don't care one way or another about politics.
Conservatives (at least where I live) are generally less loony.
@IT'S:

Well, where I live, it's just that the term liberal is used more as an insult. So I would rather be called a conservative if I had to choose.
Although when it comes down to it, I still refuse to consider myself one or the other.

You do realize your participating directly in what shes condemning?

IT'S A LION and I both go to the same school, so I can back this part up.
I'm not Conservative or even that intersted in politics overall, but there is a definite Left-Wing bias there. Generally people are fairly rational about it as far as I've seen, but there are occasional problems over it.
So, as far as my vote goes…
As I said I'm not really that political, and I haven't ever particularily liked one party over the other. But my parents are both NDP and I've never seen much of a reason to disagree with them on it, so I go with that.
No offense, but I personally cannot stand people who do not take a side on an issue because they dislike politicians or politics. That's the damned most dumb reason ever, and then we have people who absolutely refuse to label themselves. I'm sorry, being a liberal DOES NOT mean that you are a democrat. And likewise for conservations being republicans.
There are issues out there, if you don't understand the issue, then fine, it is best if you do not take a stance. For example, the most split issue in America right now is abortion. If you do not have an opinion on that, then you either are sheltered too much, too young, or seriously have no care for what's going on outside of the online world.
PLEASE, IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THAT LIBERAL DOES NOT EQUAL DEMOCRAT AND CONSERVATIVE DOES NOT EQUAL REPUBLICAN, DO NOT BICKER ABOUT "ZOMG, POLITICS SUCK! MIDDLE ALL THE WAY! GO NADER! I LOVE GREEN!"
Mister_Anbu– Your points aren't what I was getting at, actually. I'm not saying I never take a stance on issues, I have very definitive positions on them. I'm saying I don't shout my opinions loudly to anyone within hearing range of me, cover my car in bumper stickers, wear obnoxious shirts advertising them, or basically beat other people over the head with them.
And I also wasn't saying I think "liberal = Democrat" and "conservative = Republican", I understand they're different things very well. I dislike the political parties due to the above mentioned issues, but "liberal", "conservative" and "centrist" apply more to mindsets and belief structures than political parties; most people belong to one of them, even if they choose not to associate with a political party.
I'd also like to point out that someone not having a well-defined stance on a hot-button topic like abortion may not be due to only being either sheltered, not caring, or being too young, but may be due to the notion that they agree and disagree with points on both sides of the argument and it's not necessarily an easy one to make a clear-cut decision on. A lot of people don't see things in clear-cut black and white, there are shades of gray in between, and that's when topics like that can become difficult to take a stance on. That's something I learned when I got older, since I had a mindset very similar to yours in my late teens and early twenties. It wasn't until I gained a little more experience and had conversations with people who had differing opinions and experiences than mine that I began to realize why some of these things are so hotly debated and why they never seem to get resolved. It doesn't mean I can't take a side, just that I can understand why the debate is there and why can be difficult to make a decision. Not on every debate, but some of them, yes.
Incidentally, the phrase "no offense, but…" doesn't make one seem like less of a jerk when it preceeds insults or a derogatory tone, nor does it excuse it. If you don't mean it, don't use it.
theres also people (like me)
who take sides very strongly but never for the same side on any given issue, the party means less than nothing to me its the issue at hand being talked about that is important.
and now tell me whats the smart idea siding with a party even though I don't support all of their ideals
or not voting for either because its logical.
also I'll refuse to vote for anyone whose only means of showing their skills is in attacking whatever their opponent says.
Not just liberal. Radical.
**Mister_Anbu's post.
For the full version, look up!**
It's not that I dislike politics/hate all politicians/all political parties or anything and I do care on some level.
If the party I vote for suddenly went and did something I was completely against/offended by, I'd probably consider what the others have to offer.
Dunno if you were addressing me or not there, but I thought I'd specify that in case you were.
