Why can't Luffy goes fast like Soru in base form ? If Coby can do it , why can't he?
Coby probably trained with it longer, by the looks of things Luffy got it down in a really short amount of time.

So what you mean is that one day, Luffy will be able to do it without going gear 2?
it would be cool if he able to do that without going gear 2. I remember Bluno said soru put alot of pressure on your body and i think Luffy would be able to handle it because he is a rubber, and stronger than Coby.
Luffy will be the one to teach his crew Haki once he learn it.
Luffy can use soru in base form, he showed it against Blueno..
He did not using soru, he was just fast
This is an excellent chapter. I love it when Luffy gets serious. Now there's nothing to stop him. I think he'll easily plow through the sisters and if the stone thing is the best Hancock has then he'll defeat her too. I think after he takes out the sisters, Hancock will probably turn into a huge snake and destroy the arena/city trying to kill Luffy. Too bad we have to wait awhile for the next chapter. At least there's still Naruto and the One Piece anime to tide me over.
@Soru..............?:
He did not using soru, he was just fast

STOP!
Don't start this argument (soru in "base form") and ruin this chapter thread. If you really must debate the issue then take it here since it was already an off-topic but recent discussion. Please.

And Saints Row 2.
Coming out next week.
If Hancock turns into a snake, that means she will have two Devil Fruits…
Hancock's pretty for a torn-up corpse you know.
@Zik:
This lets me know that Usopp can face off against Hancock as well maybe even Chopper since he's not interested in a female's body.
LOL
Luffy should've added in that Kuma sent him here I'm sure the atmosphere of things would've changed.
Chopper and Usopp are now added to my list of Strawhats who are immune to Mero Mero powers.
Chopper because he's a reindeer who doesn't have an ounce of horniness for human females, and Usopp because he's so "negative" and fearful that he overcomes his indecent thoughts.
But, yeah, LOL at the Boa sisters thinking Luffy's scared.
Thanks for the raw!

She could just naturally be a freaky snake woman. It would make sense if she was a snake that ate the Hito Hito no mi but Chopper ate that. Also I suppose if she ate that she wouldn't be beautiful.

Usopp has already someone in his heart.
Don't try to explain Choppers sexuality with common sense. He actually reacted to Nami's strips, in Alabasta and from Mr. 2. He is human… but only through his DF ability.
Common sense doesn't lead anywhere in OP.
The marine was scare too, but they also end up turn to stone. I guess that the sister only guess. If they are scare, Hancock charm will make you like her. She also says that there is no one who can resist her charm, even if they are man or woman, young or old.
People are wondering what Zoan type fruit the sisters may have, the other one has a snake IMO, and she is in human/beast form, but the problem is her body is atleast hourglass shaped. With the fat one, what animal could make her look so slim!? A stick zoan!?!?!
But seriously, i'm ready to see them us Haki along with their Zoan fruits. Should be intersting.

Chopper said he wasn't interested in a female body at all in TB when Nami was taking a bath or changing right in front of him and Usopp.
All those other times with Chopper were probably for comedic relief.
Or Oda made a little mistake and the twos instances clearly contradict each other.
Oh Boa hancock you little filthy bitch you must go to HELL. I think that it's obvious that haki can boost you're battle power. And if the amazon are impressed that luffy possess so much brute force. I think that luffy with haki will just get him near to yonkou level. Well let's just say that he will be incredibly strong
EDIT: It's also obvious that ODA is really focusing on haki. I mean everyone that ignores that must be blind? So it's safe to assume that we will finaly get some explanation for this mysterious force/technique in the next chapters

And if Chopper did not react the way he did during the 'strip' then everyone would be calling him homo… which some people still do anyway.
Actually, in the manga there was a question mark over his head during the aforementioned flash.

I hope not I'm not a big fan of ppl's attacks and techniques being completely explained during the fight they are in. Also there's no reason for ppl watching to explain and describe the attacks and techniques because they already know! It's so redundant when mangaka's do this. If it must be explained during the fight so the readers knows what's going on might as well do it in the narration box.
Haki should be explained by Ray, he's already had a sit down and listen to the old man's stories scene….........
@Zik:
It's so redundant when mangaka's do this.
How would this situation be redundant?
Luffy: What the hell is "Hockey??"
Sandersonia: You don't know what Haki is!??
[explains it to Luffy as if he were a child]
Luffy: Oh! hits fist to palm
^^ Then Luffy knows how to do it. Or something. Just an example.
explaining techniques in battle is too naruto-ish… :ninja:

It's up to ODA how he will explain it. What i state is that i assume that it's highly probable that haki will be explained in the next chapters. Maybe after the fight in a discussion between Luffy and the amazons maybe on shabondy with ray maybe that luffy will find out how to use it in the fight just like he did with blueno. Well i don't want to speculate on how he will discover how to boost his brute force power to a higher level with the "haki force"
explaining techniques in battle is too naruto-ish… :ninja:
Different context though. Saying "haha, since my fire spell is ub3r leet and has the power to burn through even stone, blah blah blah blah!!" <– mentioning the obvious or explaining a technique that we can see happening. That would be redundant and "Naruto-ish" as you say. Taking a "technique" that has been foreshadowed for a good 10 years, having it built up tremendously over the past year, and then landing the main character on an island full of people using it like toilet paper ~~ only to not explain what it actually is would be weird. Explaining it in battle of all places would make sense, since that is where it would be used against our confused protagonist.
^^ Of course, I am not suggesting it will be in battle that it is explained, but I do agree it will be explained to some extent soon.

It's redudant because that format is done in MANY manga like sometimes I can't recall a time we didn't learn of some secret or some new technique fighting style/strategy or attack that wasn't explained that way.
The sisters are suppose to be killing Luffy not giving him a lesson on haki. What sort of opponent does that? That's one reason I do like ninjas, they keep their shit secret. If your opponent knows your attack or worse off knows how do do a technique anyone can do because you told them. You deserve to die. something like that only slides with few characters that already portray overconfidence and a massive ego to the extent that they feel like it won't make a difference anyway.
If you haven't noticed fine but think about how many times you've seen the villain explain and tell a bunch of secrets to the hero just to say it doesn't matter what you know now anyway cuz you will die here, just so that the hero either survives and spreads the secret or the hero uses the newly gained info on the attack technique to defeat the villain?
Basically, do what you're suppose to do anything else is unnecessary and can lead to your downfall.
It's like If I'm gonna kill someone and when I walk in to their house and they say what are you doing here and then I tell them I'm going to kill them and then they proceed to run making it more difficult for me to kill them. When I should've just killed them on sight.

Despite all that the person that should be explaining the technique should not be someone that is going against the protagonist. If the Boa sisters explain haki to Luffy and then he knows it and then he uses it on them that would be entirely their fault. With them about to pass out saying "Oh he learned haki in the middle of the fight, unbelievable!!!!!"
Fucking ridiculous & lame…..........
explaining techniques in battle is too naruto-ish… :ninja:
Please. Naruto is not the only manga to use this concept. Plus, it's been done in One Piece before. Luffy explained to Blueno how Soru worked, and Lucci explained how Gear Second works. Usopp explained how Kabuto works, Nami had a flashback of Usopp explaining how the Climatact works, etc, etc.; it's not like it hasn't been done in One Piece before.

Calling it now.
"If I focus my spirit energy into the core of my being I begin to emmit Haki waves, and with determination I can manipulate the waves to surround my body. Like this! See? I can put it into my fist so….Gear 4! I can focus Haki around me to create dream Luffy, the opposite of Nightmare Luffy! The only way to defeat me is to flick me in the back of the neck. Now lets go!!!!"

thats some pretty tough toilet paper must be 2 ply

WHOA WHOA Do you not see the difference?????????????
Explaining the opponent's attack and explaining your own attack to the opponent are 2 COMPLETELY different things. I am talking about the latter.
Please. Naruto is not the only manga to use this concept.
That's why I said it is redundant. I've seen mangaka explain things like that in different and/or simpler ways.
I never actually understood why people think Hancock is Luffy's mom. Is it because he saw her back? How does that even relate?
Anyway, Luffy is awesome. In this chapter, he proved himself a man among men, although unwittingly, by resisting the Mero Mero beam.
This is not new back when I was a Digimon fan in a famous Magchan's Digimon fourm, whatever a mmyysstterrious human character appears fan will always assume that he is a main character's father/mother. Such as "OMG! Oikawa must be Ken's father!(WTF?), OMG! I'll bet Yamaki must be Rika's father!" it's pretty annoy but in human nature, people always want to guess like some else said, it to make themselve feel better when they are right
That's why I will laugh out loud if it was proven that Hancock was Luffy's mother. This reminds me how I use to thought Saul was Luffy's grandfather but dismissed it because I find it highly unlikly.
Luffy must learn a new technique otherwise he won't be able to protect his nakamas after the reunion with them. I repeat in the next chapters it's safe to say that he will find out how it works. With hints of the amazons himself or someone else… I don't know. But for the last chapters with all these haki hints you must be blind if you state that luffy will beat them with the gears techniques go to shabondy meet his crew again and sail to the new world. I mean ... Let's keep it real!
Luffy tried to become stronger by walking on his hands so he know that he have to do that.
@Zik:
Fucking ridiculous & lame…..........
I understand that you dislike things being presented that way, but Oda isn't reading a story book to us, so you can kiss the idea of him narrating a fight scene to us. More or less I just was confused by the word "redundant", in which I thought you were referring to the actual explaination of Haki (which has yet to occur) and not the writing style of explaining something during a battle.
Again, I was not saying it would happen. Only that it could happen, has happened before, and wouldn't be redundant in the sense that the move has never been explained before. Like freedom and I were suggesting, Luffy could simply pick up the technique on his own to a certain degree by figuring out what they do…like soru.
Just a note that I don't think anyone has mentioned yet:
There's a good chance that the name of "Bakyura" the panther was inspired by "Bagheera" from the Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book. Granted, the names are quite a bit different, but this, compounded with the Kaa look-alike snakes in Kuja, kind of affirms any thoughts that Oda was inspired by the tales of Mowgli…
hope haki's not something you just learn when the opponent tells you how they use it <_<
it's gotta have some kind of training process to it otherwise anyone could just "use it"

I already gave other possibilities. I didn't say he has to narrate it. I said I'd prefer a narration explanation rather than that stupid way of explaining it.
To clarify, I'm talking about the how it will be explained. I have these qualms with every manga concerning new moves/techniques/abilities. Also Naruto shouldn't be mentioned even if it is an example cuz it's a insult to real ninjas. Go read Basilisk to see the extents ninjas go to learn their opponents techniques before they fight them.

Okay, how about when Eneru explained Mantra to Luffy, or when Usopp explained how Kabuto works to Perona?
Well, the glass armband has reappeared, but this time on Luffy's right arm.
To all the people that hate haki what are you suggesting for luffy?`Should he go with his techniques to the new world and fail gloriously? I mean the i don't like haki i don't like all this force thing chakra blah and so on is getting ridiculous. Without arguments against haki you should just stop discussing it. Just to say that haki is mysterious and for that i have to hate isn't enough. I mean many people (i also) came with frequency explanations for it. Even for DF power and how haki can also break these DF powers. And you still come with "no haki in OP"
not like usopp gave her a blueprint of the kabuto >_>
and its not like luffy could've learned Mantra either.
If Hancock turns into a snake, that means she will have two Devil Fruits…
I understand where you're coming from, but I disagree. Listen to where I'm coming from.
Okay:
Paramecia = Learn one ability, and that's what you get.
Zoan = Transform into animal/reptile (Dinosaur, perhaps snake) gain speed, strength, vision, etc. etc. Depending on animal traits.
Logia = They can manipulate, control, and produce what their element entails - They also gain any special bonus that the element can have.
Now, from what I remember… Both Luffy and Moria have proven to gain a "Upgrade" i terms of strength, speed, etc. WHICH in fact is a Zoan trait - Transformation.
Moria's shadow absorbing move, which himself and Luffy both did gave him a "Transformation" - Nightmare Luffy and Nightmare Moria respectively.
So what is to say that a Zoan could not produce a Paramecia-Type effect with a Zoan if it were appropriate? I think its a plausible theory. Thoughts?
i can't believe you're complaining about explaining techniques in battle
is this your first manga or something? IT HAPPENS EVERYWHERE GET USED TO IT
hope haki's not something you just learn when the opponent tells you how they use it <_<
it's gotta have some kind of training process to it otherwise anyone could just "use it"
Oh god you guys are hilarious
SHOUNEN. PROTAGONIST.
people are talking about how luffy will learn haki, but you guys only accept one answer. wtf?
@Fire Fist:
Okay, how about when Eneru explained Mantra to Luffy, or when Usopp explained how Kabuto works to Perona?
Usopp was a dumbass for doing that and so was Enel. The difference is that mantra is most likely something you are born with so he didn't have to worry about Luffy knowing what he could do. He basically explained that he is omnipotent and knows what you're gonna do before you do it. There's no real solution for that, the ones Luffy came up with didn't help him win the fight.
As for Usopp if he did that against an capable opponent he would've got his ass handed to him cuz they would've figured a way around it.
I don't see how you can think explaining your attacks or abilities to your opponent in a fight is by any means intelligent unless telling them is part of a larger strategy to win. If you're outright telling them what you can do just cuz they asked you're a dumbass even if you are confident you're gonna win anyway.
@Nuzzie:
i can't believe you're complaining about explaining techniques in battle
is this your first manga or something? IT HAPPENS EVERYWHERE GET USED TO IT
I'm not complaining about it I'm saying it is stupid and I hope it doesn't happen with haki especially in this situation. IMO it's bad writing especially since you mentioned it happens "everywhere"
I previously said that Usopp and Chopper are immune to Boa Hancock's Mero Mero powers, but maybe I should put them in a maybe category.
And in that bath scene, Chopper did have a nose bleed, so I guess it's possible for him to have the hots for women afterall, but he doesn't have it as much as a regular boy.
it's not relevant to discuss if it makes sense that haki is explained during the battle in the arena or not …. Focus your energie on other interesting points.
I speculate a revolution on amazon lily.
Most likely we'll get a brief explanation of what Haki does in this battle. If Oda has something more complex in mind it'll be explained further in depth by another source.
Brief explanation being "haki is blah blah, you can use to to reinforce blah blah". Luffy won't give a shit, he won't ask them questions about it.
i can see luffy just figuring haki out himself. and telling them how it works just like he did with blueno. because luffy explaining it to blueno is completely different than blueno explaining it to luffy. of course its gonna probably happen in battle or after battle just like with devil fruits but wtf why would THEY explain it to luffy so that heh learns it and kicks their ass? especially when they already saw how strong just his raw strenght is.

But luffy was wondering how the arrows can be so destructive. So it's possible that luffy has some interest in this mysterious force.

Was Luffy pissed off then? No? He's not going to care at the moment
Chapter was really good. I think that the people that said that Luffy isn't affected because he is not looking at her when Hancock does her attack is right. Luffy had his eyes covered both times. Everybody that has been turned to stone had their eyes open and facing her. Why else emphasize Luffy having his eyes closed when the beam attacked? There's probably more to the attack though than just having your eyes open for the beam to hit.
I can't wait for next week to see better pictures of Hancock's sisters in action. The designs when they transform look a lot better than how they look like normally.
