How popular is one piece?

@Sandai:
On what channel?
I was talking about my country, Italy. In Italy One Piece is nearing the end of the Water 7 part and I guess on December(or something like that) Naruto:Shippuuden should start to air. They share the same channel, daily at 14:00, but on different seasons.

Now I know my name and avatar will make this sound like im a narutard (I just like that pic and the message above it fights) that theres really nothing wrong with thinking naruto is better.
Yeah it's not as good now but I hardly ever see naruto forums bashing OP and besides that we all have are likes and dislikes no need to be a playa hater

Look for a thread like this in the forums and see what you find. I've seen One Piece blood shattered all over the place in some matters… :blink:

There's really nothing wrong with thinking Naruto is better.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, likes, dislikes, etc. I personally think it is clear as a whole that One Piece is a better Manga (story, writing, characters, fights, drawing, etc.) all around, but that people (primarily younger crowds) like the concept of "cool-looking" Ninja's that can magically jump all over the place and use crazy attacks && "badass" Death Gods who fight with Power Ranger-like***** swords and can also jump around and use crazy attacks. I would say that the larger portion of One Piece fans are ages 17+ with a strong 18-24~ish age group, whereas Naruto (and perhaps Bleach also) scales from age 12+ with a strong 13-16~ish age group. The amount of people more prone to watching "cartoons" are going to be the younger crowd, so it is fitting to see Naruto and even Bleach surpass One Piece in that popularity battle.

@sasuke6000:Yeah it's not as good now but I hardly ever see Naruto forums bashing OP.
Though I have seen OP bashing, and I generally agree with you on this, I feel there is a reason for the lack of it. The few times I have seen someone bash OP it reeked of personal opinion with strong fanboyism for Naruto, in addition to just being rabid spittle-ridden nonsense that had no basis at all. When I think about it, I cannot think of very many reasons to bash One Piece outside personal opinions, such as: "I don't like the character designs", "I don't like the art", "I don't like how they do super powers (DF)", "I don't understand it…", and "I don't like the weird story and characters".In fact, when I think about it this way I wonder…has Naruto or Bleach ever had one of those really awe-inspiring cliffhanger chapters? Or had character development and/or emotional sequences that left the reader sympathetic for the stories protagonist, or perhaps even crying right along with them? Or what about an arc that had so much background, twists and turns, and subterfuge behind it that as a reader we really had no clue what would happen next? Perhaps these questions are a little biased, though I do not think so necessarily, but not only has One Piece accomplished all of these feats...it does it on an almost weekly basis. Granted, not to the degree that the arc climaxes do, but every chapter leaves a good portion of its readers praising the author and eagerly anticipating what will follow in the next weeks' chapter.
I suppose what it comes down to (again, to me), is the age factor. I personally see One Piece as a more mature series; with sometimes darker and deeper plot points, pun usage, comic relief, in-world history/background, story and character development, and real-world science and culture (blended into) the Manga may have a look and feel that can be seen as an "acquired taste", but even without that I would say these points are proof to the series being at the least a good read (if not a good look).
Adding one more thing that makes One Piece popularity in my heart much stronger than that of the other heavy hitters, is the fights. In particular, I love how I can expect to be pleasantly surprised with the outcome of any particular battle. Take for example Naruto, Bleach, and DBZ; each series has a slew of "mid-boss" and "final-boss" type battles, with the hero going through a series of _just kiddings._ First, they are winning and the opponent is constantly going wide-eyed in surprise. Next, _whoops_ bad guy forgot to mention he was only playing around and – *powers-up* -- can kick ass too. Then, hero says "oh noes!!" for a few minutes so he can get a little closer to his death bed, and then says, "Surprise! lolwtfbbq" and uses the "super-ultra-special attack" he was saving for later but will use now. This process continues a few more times until the hero wins (inevitably) or loses so he can have a training arc or time skip. Repeat for a few years, and the Manga concludes the same way it began. A _favorite moment_ for me in One Piece that adds to this was the Luffy vs. Blueno fight. I know it was the setting-the-stage fight for the arc, but at the time I (we?) had no idea how long or hard the fight could or might be. First, we were surprised to see Luffy take Blueno seriously and be able to somewhat match him. Then, Luffy uses Gear 2nd (excitement, excitement, excitement) to which we learn he can move _much_ faster and is much stronger…...but wait, isn't this the classic shonen technique of randomly powering up the hero? Yes, and no. Yes, because it was an instant power-up we knew nothing of beforehand. No, because he had a major reason to become stronger (build-up) while this perfectly utilizes the properties of his DF in a unique and interesting way. Something new, and not something old and powered up. (Not just "more ki" or "more chakra" or "just plain stronger"). He instantly and truly overpowers the opponent, leading to his immediate victory. The best part, however, was Blueno still standing after Luffy used his final attack, leaving us all (including Luffy) thinking that this new Gear 2nd _isn't_ enough. (Oh no!! Not the shonen reach around!!). False! Right before Luffy unveils that he has another "Ace up his sleeve", Blueno topples over with a **KO**. Win! **I think my post is too long. No one will read it. Also, I _think_ it makes me sound like an OP fanboy.** Just for the record, I read Naruto and Bleach every week and completely enjoy them. (Though both irk me constantly, and they aren't nearly as interesting to me as One Piece – but that should be obvious by now).
-

From my experience of Wikipedia, the difference between a Naruto fan and any other anime is that Naruto fans are the guys mostly like to add:
"This anime sucks… Naruto Rocks!"
Or something along those lines. This is where MY hate of Naruto fans came from. OP was the target of most of their "attacks". Seriously... I never saw fans of any other anime doing this to the OP page, nor did I witness any other anime fans doing this to other anime pages... I don't know, but the Naruto fandom has all the 13 year old wiki vandals included in it, or so I'm led to believe.
Lets just say, the entire fandom was let down by the stupidity of a few. :getlost:
-
I do think One Piece is better but just like Naruto almost as much but not really
-
Though I have seen OP bashing, and I generally agree with you on this, I feel there is a reason for the lack of it. The few times I have seen someone bash OP it reeked of personal opinion with strong fanboyism for Naruto,
One Piece fans generally do the same almost everytime I've seen someone bash Naruto it's usually been over the fact that Naruto isn't as strong or the same in some areas as One Piece is.
Then, Luffy uses Gear 2nd (excitement, excitement, excitement)
Not everyone was too open to Gear 2nd originally.
-
I went to Tokyo, and glad to see that One Piece rules supreme over there. Naruto and Bleach were destined to do better in America and the UK thanks to the 4kids' dub.
But that all means nothing as we all know that One Piece boys Bleach and Naruto combined.
-
People give this up. Be real anime fans and just admit One Piece, Bleach and Naruto are all good series. One Piece has the edge over both series only because they have better characters and fight scenes [It ain't because of the story, lets nip that in the bud right now].

I definitely wouldn't have thought that especially not with Bleach.

So says the noob who's to insecure to admit that a series he liked is not as widely enjoyed as he hoped it'd be.
And I'm pretty confident it's the story which is, you know, leagues above better and more consistent than the other two.

Do you really want to travel down this road again?

@Sandai:

Yeah. Fanboys in general tend to be that way. Regardless of the Manga. OP and Naruto are just natural rivals, so it is fitting…considering the rocky terrain.
@Sandai:
Not everyone was too open to Gear 2nd originally.
True. I was meaning most of that from my perspective. Trying to emphasize that One Piece will deliver excitement that doesn't fail. IE: Someone uses new attack for first time (excitement); new attack seems to work, but enemy shows that they are even more powerful than before…so new attack really wasn't that great (letdown). Take Naruto, for instance, where he has come back -- what? Three or Four times now after training and is supposed to be completely different than before – and yet he is still a moron who sucks and can only do three techniques (give or take). He does seem a little more composed now, but with the last year focusing on Sasuke how can we really know if he has changed much. That, and he is training......again. So, long story short: Luffy introduced new move…it was super effective!
@Sandai:
Do you really want to travel down this road again?
Not trying to encourage things, but I am curious why Miracles believes that to be so. Or at least, in what areas one equals the other in terms of story development.

I said I like all three/read all three. What is wrong with you.
And One Piece's FIGHTS/CHARACTERS is what makes it better than the other two. Not cause of some boy looking for treasure.

Though I agree immensely! A lot of friends i know prefer naruto simply because they wouldn't give one piece a chance. They give me answers like "the characters look too kiddy" and "i don't like the storyline (even though he's only watched the first 15 episodes!)" and stuff like that.
This is what I also go through with friends, associates, and co-workers. They make all these complaints about One Piece and they haven't even seen more than 20 episodes….
They use the excuse that they don't like the drawing, the characters are too kiddy and not in-depth (Which is worth a nice fucking slap in there face but these are my friends so I wouldn't do that....to some of them...), there is no blood (lmao I love hearing this one), Luffy's power is wack and limited...blah blah blah <insert ignorant="" rant="" here="">Now honestly about 94% of those whom gave these horrible excuses turned to One Piece after I showed them the Luffy vs Bleuno, Luffy vs Croc, Luffy vs Lucci (this fight alone has gotten most people to love OP) and of course the critically acclaimed Luffy "vs" Bellamy "One smash in the face coming up!" scene.
But that is how people are, judging very fast and automatically creating an opinion based on nothing but first impressions.
Sad sad thing that many Anime Lovers are neglecting what is one of the greatest Anime/Manga of all time IMO.</insert>

This is OT, but I still don't understand where do people took that "Blueno" from! Water 7 was staged like Venezia an Italian city and Lucci had a clearly italian name, then you can even look at the romanized version of the japanese name of that character, that is "Buruno". Is it really fucking hard to see that his name was simply "Bruno", another italian name? It's obvious that you guys don't know italian and that's not a problem at all, but I'm just surprised that of all the wrong choices that could be picked, the english version picked a fucking "Blueno"! What the hell is a "Blueno"? Even in the anime that name is called "Bluno", because japanese people can't pronounce the "r". End of OT rant.

That's the thing, most people on this forum don't enjoy Naruto or Bleach as much as One Piece or heck even like them and you, being as insecure as you are over the fact that series you like aren't as cracked up as you thought they'd be, always try to put them on the same level otherwise you'd feel like an idiot who likes something everyone else thinks it's crap (Note, not saying the series are crap but he thinks that way). At any rate, I enjoy One Piece mostly for the story as I bet most other members in this forum do and I appreciate you as I'm sure everyone else would that you don't try to put words in our mouth and say that's why we like the series, in effect forming our opinion for us, when we like it for totally different reasons. I agree that it was obvious you were referring to Oda. In fact, I am personally disappointed that Oda cannot correctly spell the names he makes up for his characters. Preposterous.
Even look at the romanized version of the Japanese name of that character, that is "Buruno". Japanese people can't pronounce the "r".
I thought it was the "L" they had trouble with? Thus, likely that "Buruno" could be either Bruno or Bluno/Blueno. Going with the author's choice as a final decision.
What the hell is a "Blueno"?

LOL at you saying I am insecure? It is you One Piecetards who are insecure. You guys are always bringing up and bashing Naruto in One Piece CHAPTER discussions for no reason at all. You fanboys are always comparing One Piece to the others. LOL look at some of the bashing posts in this thread which proves my point. As I have said before and I will continue to say NONE of you people's opinions can be taken seriously because most of you are Oda Eiichiro fanboys/fangirls. One Piece is only better because of the characters and fighting and if you think One Piece plot is better than the other two's plot then you simply have terrible taste [AND SIMPLY JUDGING WITH BIAS] because there is no difference between a boy who is looking to be the best pirate and a boy looking to become Hokage.

How can you laugh with Oda's balls in your mouth?
How can you come up with this stuff? You gotta be trollin'. No way you're serious.

I think the term is on opposite sides of the spectrum since there's only one but yeah, I get your point

Not an object, if you were confused. What's a "marte1980"? Oh, right…it's a name.
Yeah, I agree with you on this, but I was trying to say that if Blueno was a known english name, then I could have guessed that Oda choose it instead of a more strict translation from japanese because of its popularity, but Blueno simply isn't anything in any language. That's why I said "What's a Blueno".
Dude… You got owned. Give it up.
I was trying to explain my point, which was misunderstood. By the way, I don't see your point. It's not a game where I win or loose something, at most I can just be wrong. But in this particular case I'm right, Oda screwed up the translation of that name.

Yeah, I agree with you on this, but I was trying to say that if Blueno was a known English name, then I could have guessed that Oda choose it instead of a more strict translation from Japanese because of its popularity, but Blueno simply isn't anything in any language. That's why I said "What's a Blueno".
Perhaps Oda was just telling us that he is not blue. Since names do not need to exist in order to be used, or be some sort of verb-related word, I suppose he could choose whatever method he wants.

Oda: Hmm. We need a name for this guy with horn-like hair.
Asst #1: Bull-sama!
Asst #2: Blue! He looks depressing.
Oda: Blue? No.
Asst #2: Eh?? Baloonoe?
Oda: Eh!? Blue…no?
Asst #2: Blueno!
Oda: …........
Sanji: You shitty bastards!!wow. I am…
