Looking back, I'm sort of glad that the Disney movies that I watched the most were the ones with human protagonists.
Better to have a crush on Jasmine or something as a kid than on SEXY MOUSE STRIPPER.

@Anime:
Villain wise, Hook is my favorite, if not solely due to his voice actor. However, Ratigan and Jafar are not that far behind him.
However, WGCM is in my top four songs, along with "Friend Like Me", "You Can Fly" and "Be Our Guest."
Oh,
C0IkQbRLZcA
WGCM in a crap load of languages. Probably posted.
Damn. There are no more Voice Actors like the ones of the old days.

I think there's good ones around, it's just that people are going for very cheap or very famous ones these days
This was by far my favorite musical scene ever in a disney movie.
SfgQfRJEiJI
And yeah, Taboo, most of the horrible voice acting I've heard nowdays is more the fault of the companies than anything else.
Oh wow, favorite songs. I love just about everything on the Aladdin and Hercules soundtracks, but if I had to choose one, I'd probably go with "Prince Ali."
deserves a special mention though. The song itself isn't one of my all time favorites, but the actual scene is beautiful.Looking back, I'm sort of glad that the Disney movies that I watched the most were the ones with human protagonists.

I hope you didn't watch any Warner Bros. cartoons as a kid
nothing can escape MINERVA MINK

This has always been one of my favorite songs from a Disney movie. The song and the scene both come together and make it look so majestic and powerful.

Yeah, it used to be that Disney and any animating studio had a great pool of voice actors, but now they opt to use famous movie stars for big roles instead to attract a bigger adult audience. ("star power").
This brings up an interesting question. Does Gaston in the French dub speak….normal?

I love the Hunchback soundtrack

that is onre of the best songs in disney history
Yes, "Hellfire" is one of the best songs to ever come from a Disney movie. "Out There" is pretty damn good too. Hunchback was really a high point for Alan Menken, one of his best works.
My favorite Disney musical numbers are probably:
-Hellfire (Hunchback)
-If I Never Knew You (Pocahontas)
-Belle (Beauty and the Beast)
Here's "If I Never Knew You" it was cut from the original release, but on the 2005 dvd they put it back in. In test audiences kids didn't like it, but adults and teens liked it so they put it back on the dvd. But they still haven't released this version for sale yet, only crappy covers of it. I had to rip the audio just so I could listen to it on my ipod.

It's been a while since I've seen either version so I can't really answer, but I remember Gaston being really awesome in French.

Oh man, I gotta watch that movie again. I had forgotten about the mature themes it had for a Disney film.
I watched "Pocahontas" this morning. I remember watching that movie perhaps 20 times a day as a kid, and not understanding much of the story at all. :P

I just did a WIkipedia search on that movie, and damn, that was a really freakin' dark movie.
I remember seeing that in theaters when I was seven, and I don't remember all of that happening! All the references to death and Hell.
Well yeah, I mean, look at the book it's based on…I guess the way they took such a dark story and lightened it up so much to a ridiculous degree always bugged me, but it can't help but be a little dark for typical Disney. I just could never understand what made them want to do that story.
A bit of a subject change
Pixar is releasing two films in 09?
Pixar?
more like Dreamworks
Watching the rescuers tonight.I love that film since it has one of the greatest villianesses of all time:Madame Medusa
watching treasure planet which is one of the Ok Disney movies of this generation
one of my favorite songs from treasure island

Yup, child abuction+money obsession+bitch= great villain. She's one of my favorites, too. Female villains/antagonists normally don't do if for me, but she took the cake.
See, I never liked The Rescuers, for some reason it always felt more like an extended cartoon short and not a real movie to me. The Rescuers Down Under, however, I thought was absolutely fantastic. Great background music, good cast, and an absolutely incredible villain.
After defying the Archdeacon, Frollo attempts to murder Quasimodo, chasing him and Esmeralda onto a balcony overlooking the city. As Frollo is finally able to murder the duo, the demonic gargoyle he is standing on crumbles. he loose his balance and mannages to grab the statue. if it is a hallucintion or not doesn´t matter, but the stonefigure comes to life and starts glowing bright red while roaring, just before breaking and sending frollo from the cathedral to his death in the molten lead. Despite his effort to avoid it, frollo was obviosly sent to hell (Altough not shown).
I've never actually seen Hunchback or read the book.
For shame.
I never saw it or knew anything about it before
which is why I found it hilarious while reading a plot summary that the primary conflict is the minister guy wanting to bone the gypsy slut
watching treasure planet which is one of the Ok Disney movies of this generation
Ughh don't mention that abomination of a movie.

That, and the only reason he doesn't just rape her is because IT'S SINFUL TO LUST AFTER A WOMAN THAT ISN'T YOURS, yet it's not sinful to, you know, kill her.
For some reason I never saw The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Or Pocahontas.
@Cyringohn:

maybe it's because it was a Disney movie

well, it was in the 1400s, about 100 years before Martin Luther

I was referring to the book, since I figured that that basic plot line was still there.
Hunchback was probably the first movie to honestly make me shed some tears.
On an unrelated note, I gotta see if I can track down a DVD of The Three Caballeros. I rediscovered the "unoffical" VHS that I always watched as a kid, and I've been meaning to find a version of the film that doesn't suck in picture quality.

I remember the final parts, but not the ending exactly.
course the BOOK ends much worse.
These were the good old days, when they actualy made dark, but good things.Last, but potentionaly scariest glimpse of this was in Anastasia.
A request-I remember an OLD as heck movie, where the was this semi vampire
villian and everything he put his red cape on was turned to stone. He ended up as one at the end-anyone remember what it was,ive been trying to remember for years.

hope that helps
It and Saludos Amigos are being re-released in a box set together in the next couple months, so I'd just wait for that.

I think I'll start my Disney DVD collection with Robin Hood and The Fox & the Hound. The latter is out of print, but I've seen some copies at the Borders I always go to. I'll try to do it this weekend.
I want to watch the two Goofy movies again…
those were beyond terrific

Ahh those were really good. Especially the first one, which is surprisingly touching for a movie about GOOFY of all people. err…...dogs.
Ughh don't mention that abomination of a movie.
I liked it. It had potential to be way better than it was.
I liked it. It had potential to be way better than it was.
Tons of potential, and great animation. But potential can only take a movie so far.
I mean, when the main character is incredibly unlikeable, unrelatable, and despite having an amazing actor voicing him turned out to be incredibly bland and boring, well then you know the rest of the movie probably isn't very good either.
But that's just my opinion on that movie, and I might be a tad bit biased since Treasure Island is one of my favorite stories.

Hot Damn! Thanks for the find!
What about the live movies?
20K Leagues under the sea is a great film
The Sea monster still spooks me to this day
Ah, treasure planet. I think the only thing I liked about it was Long John Silver. In fact, I'm hoping Blackbeard gets the same voice actor when the dubbing company catches up with the funi episodes, but overall, the movie wasn't that great. I still liked it way more than Tarzan, tough.
We forgot this one ;)
Well guys, I finally caved in. I now own a copy of The Fox & the Hound on DVD. Thanks to the way Carter bought a Disney DVD, I could buy it without feeling completely embarassed. Though my face was a bit red when I went up to the cashier.
Why the hell do you feel embarassed for doing such a thing?
It's not like the cashiers would say something that would make you to not waste your money in the damn dvds.

One of mine too, but I thought the movie was actually a pretty decent take on the story if you ask me.
@Lobster
I loved that one

In my earlier post, I said that whenever I consider buying a Disney DVD, I feel a bit insecure about my maturity and walk away. I didn't want to come across as a "Giant fag" as Carter said. But, I went through with it.
