Nor do I think this goes in line with Luffy's personal philosophy. He already had that situation and still decided not to go.

If Oda wanted to have that information affect Luffy's decision I'm sure he would have done something else then have everyone (but Luffy) read about it in the paper first.And he wouldn't have had that vivrecard burning scene with Luffy. Perhaps whitebeard could have had it instead or something.

Technically they could but it would be something more appropriate/likely to happen in a fan fiction then in the actuall canon material imo.

Being in trouble can mean alot of things.Im sure Luffy was on the verge of death at least twice in Alabasta,though I think three is apropriate,then in EL and TB-yet he always got out-but heres,it seems necessary to concern oneself with the fact it doesnt look like its going to be so easy.Luffy wintessed that himself at Sabaody.
