Anyways, I agree with Kitsune, 9-Tailed Beast is in the right that we won't see Jimbei at Fishman Island. It'd be too much of a coincidence that we'd meet him there, and even more coincidence that the next Big Bad is another Shichibukai. Oda's too unpredictable to do that.

Alright, here's something that I've always wondered about.

For Luffy to get his 300 million bounty, he had to defeat the top pirates in East Blue, take down a Shichibukai, and bring down Enies Lobby, which included defeating top assassin Rob Lucci. This last one is especially a huge deal, as it had never been done before.

Now, the other Shichibukai. Kuma (296 million), Moria (320 million), and Doflamingo (340 million).

JUST WHAT THE HELL DID THESE GUYS DO TO GET THOSE BOUNTIES?!:blink:

It certainly can't be from random plundering and pillaging. All of these guys had to have done something huge at one point, I just can't imagine what.

They could have always just pulled a humongous heist.
Doflamingo - Take control of a major political leader, and bring down an entire nation.
Kuma - No idea how he fights so idk
Moria - Could raid a huge city, like Mariejois or Alabasta, which would earn them around 100 million, then just take down someone high up in the navy like a commodore or admiral, and walah.
As for Dragon - Its probably close to or over the 1 billion range.
Gol D. Roger obviously is the highest in history, probably for clashing with Whitebeard, having a crew full of very high bounty men, and pulling off some of the biggest pillagings. Hell, he could have taken down the entire fucking navy with his power.
Finally, I don't recall Gol D. Roger or Dragon being a shichibukai…

It does. I mean it's obvious Luffy wouldn't be considered that much of a threat by the WG if he was a weakling. With the exception of Chopper's comic relief bounty, the Strawhats bounties are more or less coherent with the perceived strength of each crewmember, right?

Let's not forget, One Piece is a shonen. As every shonen in existence it ranks its characters by powerlevel, be it with dorikis, Marine HQ ranks, or bounties. There may be some exceptions of course, like Robin or Smoker, but in general it serves as a good indication of one's power.

If they keep plundering and beeing a nausiance their bounty will rise over time to make people go after them. and if bounty hunters continously go after them the bounty will in the end be a testament to their strenght as they can defeat whoever challenges them…

Actually, if the Schichibukai and Yonko get in Luffy's way, then it would make sense for him to beat them, but if they are in their own business, it would be pointless for Luffy to chase them around…

Luffy's a very dangerous person, he even fought with Blackbeard over such a simple matter as PiesVSMeat, and so far, Blackbeard is exactly like Luffy's darker side, getting rid of anyone or anything that gets on his way, except that Luffy doesn't go as far as to Kill someone, but who knows, maybe that's his plot to not scare away the Nakama that he needs...

Yeah, Luffy will soon surpass the shickibukai, which is why i think that he will fight either The last admiral (Forgot his name….Akainu?) or Sengoku.

As far as I know, the only explanation I recall about bounties, at least recently was Aokiji's comment. And he said "Bounties are not only strength, they are also a measure of the threat level." From the wa it was phrased, I'd imagine strength would be a primary factor or at least of equal importance.

Also when commenting on Enel's bounty, Oda listed a number and stated it was due to how tricky he would be to defeat.

if there is another factor involved its not a "direct representation of strenght" now is it? =P there wouldnt be any point to place a bounty on someone that wasnt strong/skilled enough to evade the pursuers, but the whole point is that its not accurate to assume that someone with 5 million berries higher bounty is stronger. And to assume that someone with a few million berri lower FROZEN bounty is weaker is just plain ridiculous…

Enel was not a threat at all to WG, the Marines or any locla population under WGs sphere of influence. Ofc his theoretical bounty is going to be a pure strenght assesment, there is no threat to speak of.

and bounties aren't power levels. They are merely how bad the WG wants you dead, as well as THEIR OPINION of your strength.(Larger bounties attract stronger hunters.)

Shonen or not, hasn't it been stated, like, a hundred million times that this is NOT the case? The only "power level" OP ever had was douriki. Bounties are, as was stated, how bad the WG wants you dead. And on a story-neutral note, they're just there for shock factor, and story impact. It's not what your power level is, it's what you did to piss off "the man". Unless you think Enel is the most powerful character seen in the series yet, what with Oda's what-if bounty for him, and all.

As for the Shichibukai, as predictable a sit may be, I'd also like to see Jimbei at Fishman Island. It'd make sense, if you think about it, but mainly, I just wanna see what the eff he looks like. And, I'm hoping he doesn't end up disappointing, like Moria did. Dopn't get me wrong, I don't totally hate Moria's design, it's just that goofy neck-head that bugs me…

And how can you "piss off the man" in a shonen mainly based on one on one fights? Luffy got his bounty cause he was strong enough to destroy a thousand Marines, two CP9 and escape a Buster Call alive. Had he been weaker, his "declaration of war" would have ended with him being turned into minced meat and he'd have stayed a 100 million berries worth pirate for the entirety of his short life.

Unless you think Enel is the most powerful character seen in the series yet, what with Oda's what-if bounty for him, and all.

Of course he's the most powerful character with a known bounty seen so far. He's a fucking lightning Logia with pseudo psychic powers and the ability to blow up islands.

People with close bounties, Kuma could in fact be more powerful than Moria.

To add to this argument, don't forget that the reasoning to the public is generally strength. Even with Robin they saidthat she destroyed several marine ships on her own to earn that 79 mil bounty, even though she wasn't close to that strong back then Well, that was probably to cover up Ohara, but still.

That's right, we know that Smoker doesn't want be too involved with the Government, so he rather wanted to stay as a captain to do what he pleased, but this changed when he got an instant "rank-up" for "defeating crocodile", wich was pretty much something that the Government did without Smoker's consideration.

What matters is what we know, like in Robin's case, we know that her bounty reflects mroe the fact that she is dangerous in a way that Luffy will never be.
And about Luffy, Zoro and the other Strawhats, it's obvious that since they did nothing but fight, then we can actually use the bounties to rank them in strength terms. The only exception would be Sanji, who's presence is pretty much understimated most of the time, unlike Zoro who already had a bounty.

i agree with most of this post but i do want bring up one point. it is said in the manga that WB is the strongest in the world and yet dragon has a higher bounty or the highest rather?

This discussion started in response to people that were judgeing who is the strongest shichibukai based on frozen bounties in relative close proximity of each other. Noone has denied that someone with 300 million bounty usually is pretty strong. we are just saying that bounties are not a good way to measure who is stronger when they are in close proximity of each other in the same way that you cant judge who is stronger in the marines of the same rank based on their rank. (meaning you cant judge which captain is stronger just based on the fact that they are captains)

Sometimes it is helpfull reading back a bit to see how the discussion started and what people are acctually argueing about. Saying that "bounties are too powerlevels, just in general broad terms." is not very productive when the person you are argueing against is saying that "bounties arent precise powerlevels"…

Wasnt he said to be a whaleshark by Johnny and Yosaku? I know they arent a credible source of information but going midget after beeing said to be a whaleshark would be so dissapointing.
