This set was awesome. Just watching 1061 right now. Dawn shame we couldn't get the Zoro vs King climax in this set, but I can't complain. What a journey its been. We were all in here 3 years ago wondering if the dub was even continuing. Now we are 32 behind Japan. Amazing.

I have no idea what they'll do moving forward. I'd happily take a 14 episode gap, hell, I'd take what we have now (I'm being very greedy) thank goodness for TOEI taking the rights back from Funimation and funding the dub so they subcontract the recording to them, but they pay and produce it. They were right to do that, as the dub had uncontrollably fell behind. To think we've gone from probably being the furthest back, to now (as far as I'm aware 2nd outside of Japan with the Korean simuldub first) that dub is produced by a company who produce no other IP - they are contracted to One Piece, that's it.

We have now passed France & Germany, as the dubs in those countries Air on Television, before they release on home video. TOEI Europe need to let Crunchyroll stream the dub here in the UK, like they do in the USA and Australia. The show is never going to go to Television here. Unless Sony put it on one of their channels and show nothing but One Piece for a year lol.

Update about my progress of catching up on the dub. I know, it been awhile but I took a couple months break after finishing up Whole Cake Island. Since I need a break after watching the end of Zou and go through Whole Cake Island back to back. I'm a few episodes into the Reverie arc.

The dub did great job on the finale of Luffy vs. Katakuri as well I really like the dub voice of Flampe. Also I want to the dub did a great job on the Straw Hats escaping from Smoothie who was transforming into a giant. Brook's commentary in the dub during that segment made me laugh into tears.

The dub did an amazing job on both Bad End Musical and Soul Pocus songs. I'm not planning to rush through the dub of Wano, since we all know that Wano is very long.

This is a big ask but I would love to see a detailed timeline showing all the big dub landmarks (announcement Funi got the license, first CN episode, last CN episode, first voyage released, season 4 announcement, etc etc).

For the collections it really does seem like they're doing the Straw Hats for the covers again. So weird. What's interesting is the color they chose for Brook is tan (which would work better for Jinbe) even though it should be grey. Oh well, it's not like Collection 14's color got it right for him either since it was purple. At least they got it right for Sanji with the blue color on Collection 32's packaging.

It's all inconsequential at the end of the day, I'm just wondering why they'd bother breaking the consistency .

Wow, incredibly disappointing on the physical release. No special features again... I think I might be done buying these, especially with Crunchyroll raising the price of the streaming subscription.

And I hate that the Strawhats are back on the Collection covers, really wish we could have gotten the Whole Cake Island characters

Was it ever said who voiced the Aegis Zero trio? Or did they slip through the cracks as "Additional voices" when they debuted in Dressrosa's batches in 2021 before getting names in mid-late 2022?

That's one thing I haven't like since Toei took over the dub. We don't get proper credits for the other recurring cast anymore. I'm mostly wonder what's going happened with Season 14 Voyage 15. Besides Gear 5, we also get the return of the ending songs.

For me, I'm happy that Uzaki Chan Season 2 is finally coming out. I been meaning to get Season 1 of Uzaki Chan. Anyway, I'm up to Episode 887. I got comments about the dub of the Reverie arc so far.

Wapol's english voice have been the best part of the dub of this arc so far. Also the dub did a great job on both Shirohoshi, Charlos, and Mjosgard scene and Shanks meeting with the 5 Elder Stars.

I'm a little worried about how the credits will be once the endings come back. I pray Toei gives them actual credits to use.

Also, I'm finally caught up today with the dub on Crunchyroll. Hopefully the set that just released on digital will make it to Crunchyroll in the customary three to four weeks.

Honestly, I'm not sure why Straw Hat covers would boost sales. If anything, I would have thought that arc-specific characters would help more because people will either be collecting the whole thing or seeking out their favourite episodes. But I don't mind these covers, since the characters are wearing their arc-specific outfits and you can see Totto Land in the background. At least it's more representative than the generic covers of Usopp and Mihawk on the Alabasta and post-Marineford Collections.

The Reigen voice actor? Why would the people working at CR hate him? Because he didn’t join in petitioning with Mob’s original VA? We see how that went; CR is an unstoppable monopoly that underpays their talent, and that won’t change now that they’re one of the only (or at least the primary) employers in this industry. A single actor petitioning won’t help the actors’ case; it’ll just get him fired / no future work contracts. Hard to blame anyone for not siding with McCarley, 100% morally right as he may have been in his mission. People value their jobs and their income, so good luck asking them all to sacrifice it when there’s such a slim chance of CR changing to meet the actors’ needs.

Ah. On well. Glad Mob is over. He was perfect for Reigen, and I’m glad we don’t have to deal with a recast. Because of the monotone delivery, Mob was always going to be an easier recast.

Forgive me if this is too serious I can never remember how to spoiler things, but while I do agree with that on a fundamental level, Niosi for everything he's done has received little more than a slap on the wrist. I'm not saying he should die in a ditch or whatever but I do think its reasonable to be uncomfortable with him bein in a career with such a large public eye, a very easy position for him to engage in similar behavior once again. For those reasons I must confess I get a bit disappointed when people continue to work with him, and especially with how the whole Vic situation was handled you'd at least think from their perspective they'd be less buddy buddy with him.

That's about all I have to say though, he portrays a relatively minor character all things considered so maybe not the most relevant thing in the world for this thread. I do think its reasonable to question the type of people they're hiring though. In One Piece alone I recently found out X Drakes VA DC Douglass is probably an even bigger creep which is really disappointing because I've really enjoyed his work in and outside of the series. In conclusion in a controversial statement I wish to say I wish human beings generally acted better towards other human beings.

@midod Thanks for the heads up about Voyage releases! I've only watched up to S13v3 so yay something to catch up on. I stopped watching in Japanese so it has been a treat to catch up after all these years, in english and with my family who are all fairly obsessed now.

And reading that the english dub is all the way up to the defeat of Queen?! That is crazy!

And can someone tell me the Funimation to Toei rights situation? i had no idea when and what all happened. What has changed with the dub at all?

@RomanceDawn I'm still going through the dub myself (in early Wano), but my understanding is that Funimation more or less gave up on Dub Piece after Fishman Island, but after the merge with Crunchyroll and at Toei's behest, the dub was continued from Punk Hazard and has been running at breakneck speed ever since, to the point we are now ~33 episodes behind the native release and likely very soon to be 20.

The dub itself hasn't really changed too noticeably, but I would argue that the quality of the dub has dropped in some respects -- nothing noticeable with the main crew as much, but incidental characters with one-off lines can sometimes tend to sound weak and directionless.

There's also some inconsistency with terminology. The biggest offender is the pronunciation of Urouge's name, and possibly Bege's.

In Sabaody, Urouge was pronounced "oo-rooj" and I think (do not quote me) Bege was pronounced like the word "beige".

In Whole Cake Island, Urouge was pronounce "oo-ro-oo-geh" and Bege like "be-ji" -- I think this is more accurate and sounds better for Bege, but it's absolutely not for Urouge. (Bege's kana suggests 'bejji', but Urouge's suggest 'uruuji')

In Wano, Urouge was then pronounced "oo-roo-ji" last I heard it.

It's nothing earth-shattering, but it's one of those things that nags at me. Otherwise, it's a good time and I'm thrilled to see the catch up.

@RomanceDawn I suspect losing the TV deal with Toonami and meager DVD sales were part of the problem, but it didn't help that the dub was hundreds of episodes behind and could not present itself as a viable alternative to the subtitled episodes being simulcast.

Though this is hearsay I've picked up from this thread mixed with speculation on my part. I don't know the full story and whether or not it's even true, I just know conclusively that Punk Hazard forward were brought to us in the Crunchyroll era and there is subtle evidence that it's a bit of a different product now than it was back in the Funimation days. And it's being pushed much more than it was in the past, to the point that I'm surprised the latest arc isn't being simuldubbed.

Last night, I finished the remaining 4 Reverie episodes plus watch the first episode of Wano in the dub. I want to mention that the dub did a great job on the 5 Elder Stars and Imu scene. For the first episode of dub Wano, I'm just happy to hear the dub voices of the Straw Hats that weren't at Whole Cake Island back. Also the dub did good job on the Zoro fight scene towards the end of the episode.

Personally, I don't think there has been any major departure in dub quality since the "takeover" by Toei. Even during its prime, the FUNi dub suffered from occasional inconsistencies depending on who was directing the episodes. Bege's new pronunciation is certainly better, but Urouge is definitely a step down. Could be something that was forced on the directors by Toei.

To me, the biggest downside of the Toei era is this ridiculous lack of credits. I hope someday we get an explanation on this.
