Nope. And FUCK YOU Academy for snubbing Greta Gerwig for Best Director and Margot Robie for Best Actress.

YES. Give the fucker his due.

the barbie movie is not good it doesn't deserve any award
That's going a little too far. Don't have to like it, but to suggest there aren't any elements of the movie deserving an award... Bit much.
Personally, think it was awesome. Watched it in movies 2 times, once with gf, once with mom and cousins. It was easy.
As for these "snubs", I suppose it comes down to competition. There are always going to be losers when there's just 5 nominees. Plus Oscars is completely obsolete. Frankly it's tiresome having my feed cluttered with outlets saying "fans mad over Gervig and Robbie Oscar snub".
It’s pendantic but Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig did get Barbie nominations, just not in the Actress/Director categories.
Also, the Best Actress category is really stacked this year. Natalie Portman got shut out too for May/December.
It is crazy to see Margot not going up for Best Actress and Greta Gerwig not in Best Director. I'm not in the camp that Margot/Greta will win but with how competent Barbie was, it felt like a no brainer. Like sure, I didn't watch everything on that list but this feels more deliberate than anything else. Like Barbie was too commercial and too non-artsy to be anywhere near us kind of holier-than-thou attitude. But still, the best actress list is stacked and it is hard to argue that any of them should be removed in place of Margot.
I feel like we've all kind of taken the surprising success of the movie for granted, but I think it's pretty incredible that the Barbie movie has been nominated for Picture.
The BARBIE movie has been nominated for best picture.
If I told you three years ago that that would happen, would you have believed me?
Just got out of watching The boy and the Heron. Beautifully animated, and super surreal. I liked it more than The Wind Rises which was the last Miyazaki film I saw but probably like his most beloved films better. Glad I saw it but not in a rush to see it again.
That said, was reading up on the film and how it’s semi autobiographical. Think it would’ve been cool to see a Spier-Verse trilogy sweep the Best Animated film but more confident it’s going to go to The Boy and the Heron after reading the background on how the film came to be.
It’s always hard to say someone should have been nominated, because then the question becomes who got nominated that didn’t deserve it, and then your insulting someone

It's more "artistic" which is one reason it's more likely to win. But hey, Howl's Moving Castle lost to Wallace and Grommit (kinda hard not to love them though), The Wind Rises lost to Frozen, and The Tale of Princess Kaguya lost to fucking Big Hero 6.
Into the Spider-verse also beat Isle of Dogs and Mirai, both more artsy movies. So it's never a guarantee. I'd prefer it if Miyazaki won, but I wouldn't be mad if Spider-verse did.
@zeltrax225 wouldn't really agree about Robbie. It's not even her own best role. Felt like she was outshined by several other roles in the film, some of which were nominated for supporting roles.
@Razh I can't say because I haven't watched everything on the list. But I do think she is better in Babylon than she is in Barbie but that is largely due to the nature of her role in Babylon. But yes, if I have to be definitive about it, Lily Gladstone and Emma Stone beats her in that category. But I still can't say she doesn't deserve to be there because I haven't watched the rest.
Any chance Emma Stone wins best actress? I’m a big fan of hers

There's a chance, but it'll more than likely go to Lily Gladstone.

That makes sense, she was absolutely amazing in Killers Of The Flower Moon
I love this old bastard.
I forgot to mention the honorary awards, but yes. Aside from Mel Brooks, honorary awards were also given to Carol Littleton and Angela Bassett (presumably to make up for her losing Best Supporting Actress last year).
I was expecting more from The Zone of Interest. I guess it could be summarized as a fiction movie made by Frederik Wiseman. Which is cool.
My favorite film is Killers of the Flower Moon.
Oppenheimer and Poor Things are close behind. But I enjoy more "cynical stories" over "great directing". But obviously, cynical stories deserve great directing too otherwise they would be tame. Nolan's film is a bit cynical too, but it's expected from Nolan, while I was more surprised by Scorsese. Same for Poor Things, kinda cynical, but I didn't fully grasp the point I guess even though it was gorgeous to watch. It obviously has the best Production Design over the nominees.
Great movies have been selected this year. And as for every year, I couldn't care less about which one wins.
Clip of the Godzilla Minus One VFX team reacting to their Oscar nom.
At last, I've gotten caught up with all the Best Picture nominees, so here are my thoughts on each.
American Fiction - Very charming, funny, and engaging movie with a fantastic performance from Jeffrey Wright. Though, ironically, now it has me a bit paranoid if maybe this wasn't pandering in its own way.
Anatomy of a Fall - In spite of the fact that Amazon really screwed me over with the subtitles, I had a good time watching this. Works really well as a courtroom drama and family drama.
Barbie - Definitely the most fun and accessible of the nominees. I've seen it twice and, yeah, it's a really funny and surprisingly poignant movie that was so much better than it had any right to be.
The Holdovers - Absolutely brilliant. Wonderful period piece/character study that hooks you from beginning to end. I still think Oppenheimer will win because of the sheer impact and influence it had, but I think this movie is the one that really deserves it.
Killers of the Flower Moon - Pretty sure I've talked about this movie on the forum before, but this is one of the best movies Scorsese's put out in a while. Lily Gladstone better get that Best Actress win.
Maestro - It's shot well, it's acted well, but man, by the end of it, the whole experience just feels kind of hollow. Not bad exactly, but...yeah, they should've swapped this out for May December or something.
Oppenheimer - If it's not Nolan's best, it's definitely his most Oscar-y. I still prefer The Dark Knight and Inception, but yeah, this is a really powerful movie held together by Cillian Murphy's performance.
Past Lives - It's a solid enough romance drama. Not bad by any means, but I guess it just didn't appeal too much to me personally.
Poor Things - Great showcase of Emma Stone's talent as an actress (not to mention Mark Ruffalo), though the story falls just the taddest bit short for me. Bella's continuous unfiltered inappropriate comments got kind of tiresome after a while, as did the rampant sex scenes (seriously, you could've trimmed down if not omitted the entire brothel segment).
The Zone of Interest - Maybe I need to give this movie a second watch, because, man, I feel like I just didn't get at all what it was trying to do. It's about the Holocaust, so of course it's about the horror of it, but it seems there's a surprising amount of nuance to it. Frankly, halfway through I was getting really bored.
I haven't seen any of those, but I'm probably going to watch The Holdovers pretty soon. I've heard great things about it.
If it starts streaming on something I have I'll get around to Oppenheimer.
The Zone of Interest circles around this old concept that evil isn’t anything sophisticated but simply normal. It tries not to have a point of view and casts the Nazis on the screen as is. You’ll just see that despite doing horrible things, horrible things are done by normal people. “Do you see these Nazis ? No the wife isn’t a victim, she’s like them too and maybe you too could be part of them one day or maybe you already are”.
Well, today's the day. Oscars air tonight at 7:00 PM EST, which I believe is an hour earlier than usual.
Anywho, here are my final locks for each category.
Best Actor - Cillian Murphy
Best Supporting Actor - Robert Downey Jr. (although Ryan Gosling would be really cool)
Best Actress - Lily Gladstone
Best Supporting Actress - Da'Vine Joy Randolph (although it's a really close call between her and Jodie Foster)
Animated Film - The Boy and the Heron
Cinematography - Maestro
Costume Design - Poor Things
Directing - Christopher Nolan
Documentary - Haven't seen any of them, so based on the subject matter alone, I'll say 20 Days in Mariupol.
Documentary Short Film - Again, haven't seen any. I'll go with ABC's of Book Banning.
Film Editing - Film editing is one of those things I just have no idea how to gauge the quality of. So, I dunno, I'll go with Anatomy of a Fall.
International Film - Zone of Interest
Makeup and Hairstyling - Poor Things
Original Score - Oppenheimer
Original Song - What Was I Made For?
Production Design - Poor Things
Animated Short - Haven't seen any of them. I'll go with Pachyderme.
Live Action Short - The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar
Sound - Oppenheimer
Visual Effects - Godzilla Minus One
Adapted Screenplay - American Fiction
Original Screenplay - The Holdovers
Best Picture - Oppenheimer
Messi or not Messi (the dog of Anatomy of a Fall). Will he be allowed to assist the ceremony ? Suspense
It begins!
Jimmy shows respect for Greta and Margot, as he should.
"Highest" point of RDJ's career. LOL.
Messi!
Wow. I didn't even realize Huller was in both ZoI and AoaF.
Respect for the writers!
Whoa. Five previous winners.
Da'Vine wins! She totally earned it.
War is Over wins. Cool. Guess I'll check it out some time. I am a Beatles fan after all.
Yep, Boy and the Heron wins. I still prefer Across the Spider-verse, but Miyazaki deserves two Oscars. A shame he didn't show up (again).
Anatomy of a Fall? Eh, I guess maybe, but the script for Holdovers was so damn good.
Woo! American Fiction! Totally deserved.
Best Makeup for Poor Things. Makes sense.
Yeah, pretty much expected Poor Things to sweep the design awards.
I still wonder what the point is of having a Best International Film category when one has already been nominated for Best Picture. But my question this year is why Anatomy of a Fall wasn't nominated for this category.
Hey Ke Huy! Good to see you again!
Ah, Christoph Waltz. Where ya been, man? We miss you.
Woo! RDJ's first Oscar win!
It's a Twins reunion with Schwarzenegger and DeVito!
Yes! Godzilla wins!
Oppenheimer wins Best Editing. Like I said, I'm terrible judge of editing quality, so I'm fine with it.
Well, I got 20 Days in Mariupol at least.
Oppenheimer wins Cinematography. Should've known better than to bet on Maestro.
Yes! A win for Wes Anderson! Aww, but he couldn't make it.
Huh. Zone of Interest for Best Sound. A bit surprising.
Whoa! Friggin' Slash?!
Billie Eilish wins two Oscars in a row! Hopefully this will make the Barbie Stans happy.
The reason Anatomy of A Fall wasn’t nominated for best foreign film is because Justine Triet criticized the French government and so they submitted something else out of spite.
@Kaiolino Good to know. Thanks. But now I wonder why it was nominated for anything else. Is the French government not needed for the other categories?
Congrats Cillian!
Nolan finally gets his Oscar win!
Poor Things and Oppenheimer seem to be the big winners so far.
The I’m Just Ken performance was neat. Ryan Gosling is rocking that outfit. And it was cute he brought the mike up to Emma Stone given their history.
Whoa. Surprise win for Emma Stone. I thought Lily was a shoe-in. That may piss some people off. But yes, it was a very competitive category this year.
And a bit to piss off the Republicans, for good measure.
Well, that had to be the most anticlimactic Best Picture announcement ever, but still, congrats to Oppenheimer.
I still think Holdovers is the better movie, but...I understand why Oppenheimer won.
The evening ends with no wins for Maestro, as it should.
Well, honestly, that was a pretty clean ceremony. The only awards I'm kind of miffed about are Supporting Actress and Original Screenplay, but I still can't deny the merits of those who did win. Also, it wasn't a particularly thrilling ceremony since I wasn't that invested in Oppenheimer and there weren't that many emotional highlights this year (it peaked pretty early in that regard with Da'Vine). Still, pretty much everyone who deserved to win did win, so I can't complain too much.
downey was maybe like the fifth or sixth best supporting performance in oppenheimer lol
Ryan Gosling needs to be donquixote doflamingo
Also super happy for Emma Stone, I’m a huge fan of hers

The Academy members in their respective fields vote on who to nominate for the other categories (and best film is of course voted on by every Academy member). Best foreign film (and short) is one film submitted by any given country’s film organization or government.

I don't hate him (I love Rocket) it's just...Maestro wasn't that great a movie.

How very French.
Guess Animation went more for the "artsy" one, but nobody would deny Miyazaki the win.
And I can now die happy because Wes Anderson has an Oscar under his belt (and I loved Henry Sugar). And the fact that he wasn't at the awards because he had to be on the set for his next movie just shows his dedication.
7 people chose the French movie candidate for the Oscar and Anatomy lost against a movie nobody has seen 4 vs 3. It was a huge scandal. There is a mix of politic and the thought that a typical french gastronomical story had better chance than a palme d'or despite Triet movie being a rare case of a palme with a huge public success. That's a pity because it had good chance against The Zone of Interest. Best screenplay is not very original by the Academy since the movie won that award several time already.
As predicted, Miyazaki won the best animation. Too bad it is on one of his weakest film (for me).
yeah it was mostly expected wins but still pretty pleasant to sit through.
Nothing much to really add except that this must be the one year where i really adore both the best actress and actor. Much more so than any other years.
RDJ is getting a little annoying with his personality though. What was once dynamic and fun is now getting repetitive and shallow. And this is after me sitting through his Actors on Actors video. He might have done an excellent job that allows that cockiness and stature but it really does feel like he is pushing it at times. Which is to say it isn't that much far apart, or at all, from who he really is as a person. Not that its bad per say but personally I can't fucking stand it.

Oh I know you don’t just snarking at the fact that he’s lost another Oscar nomination
The Zone of Interest was way better than Anatomy of a fall. But I didn’t know that Jupiter had any leverage for the nominations.
I was absolutely in love with Poor Things when I watched it, but I have to admit once I saw Anatomy of a Fall I was really rooting for Sandra Hüller.
Never heard of her until then, but something about her was so captivating that later when I recognized her on Zone of Interest I had to keep reminding myself to not sympathize with her character just because of the actress.
