On a more hilarious note, Putin just had his Taekwondo black belt rescinded by thr international taekwondo association. If you're gonna sanction him might as well make it personal lol.
I know they revoked his status as Interim President of the Judo Association but this taekwondo thing is new to me.
On that note, NY Times also reports the Ruble is now worth less then the American Penny.
Among today's atrocities: Putin's "highly accurate" rocket hits Kyiv TV Tower, damages nearby Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial. The place where Nazi Germany massacred Kyiv's Jewish population in 1941.
The TV station was Soviet-built. Soviets wanted to suppress memory about Jews, Babyn Yar topic was banned. The first memorial was built after the collapse of the USSR, in free Ukraine. So it was "nationalistic" Ukraine which revived the memory about Holocaust victims, and it was the Soviets (who Putin admires) who built first a landfill for industrial waste (yes!) on Babyn Yar, and later a TV station. They also banned a famous poem "Babyn Yar" by Yevgeny Yevtushenko.
Just a reminder of how bald dwarf is carrying his delusional denazification.
Apparently an assassination of Zelensky was stopped and apparently the RFSS tipped off the Ukrainians.
All this restrictions of supplies/trade and destruction of economy reminds me of a classic castle siege. If you can't take down the castle in a fight (as Napoleon and Hitler showed us in their notorious invasion fails), then trap them in and starve them out.

For a guy with a personality like his that's a real kick to the groin.

What's that?
….......
When is that 40 mile russian convoy heading to Kyiv supposed to arrive?
It has apparently stalled out due to numerous issues lol, like they're having supply issues and shit.
A massive titanic frightening display of power that stalls out with a wet incompetent fart feels like a very on the nose metaphor for Russia.
I mean wouldn't that open them up to sanctions and financial risk in turn? The Russians and Chinese are friends of convenience for sure, but are they friends who'd take a bullet for each other? I'd be suprised if China sticks out their neck for them beyond prodding for a deal to end it all and making faults at both sides statements.
I was thinking moreso along the line of realpolitiks where china would very much prefer putin over a brand new administration (in the unlikely scenario he really gets kicked out). But hey, seems like the ruble/russian raw materials are so toxic not even they want to pick up the burden of shouldering the entire russian economy.

More likely than the 5K russians dead claimed by Ukraine. Can this shit show end already?
I believe that was casualties in general, which include injured. US intel corroborated that.
Russia appears to have some issue with troops not being comfortable with attacking civilians.

Welcome to the XXI century, where war has long ceased being a symbol of men's pride.
Globalization has made hard to ignore these kind of events, they must be thinking “oh, the world sees us like a domestic Terrorist doing a school shooting”, confronted by the sheer lack of a nazi state during the invasion.
They've seemingly moved over to just dropping bombs all over the place.

Jury is still out on why Russia has only been able to field 75 out of a claimed 1500 active planes. But that is something for the more hardware oriented posters to go over
Welcome to the XXI century, where war has long ceased being a symbol of men's pride.
Wait din't that happened in WWII?
The south isn't looking great. Lots of small Russian gains, which i suppose is to be expected. Human suffering is ramping up as they start hitting hospitals and civilian homes. The capital seems to be holding, the troops for surrounding it don't seem to be making great headway as far as i can tell. Either way it'll be horrible once they get started.

Conquering land won't do Russia any good, its one thing to fight visible enemy and push front lines in strategic map but when country is forcibly occupied then enemy will just go underground and start bloody partisan war that will make living hell to try operate in such hostile conditions. Modern armies are well suited for aggresive battles with clear enemies but even recent examples in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Yemen has shown that basic insurgency from hostile population is near impossible problem for occupiers regardless how technologically advanced or superior they are. Sure Russia might try to rule with Terror and force but that will only make ukrainane people to hate them even more.
Russian troops were supposed to be 'liberators' and 'peace keepers' but after this week no ukrainan will ever believe such. THERE IS NO VICTORY for Putin in Ukraine. No western country will every recognize Putin's puppet in Ukraine, ukrainan people now know true colors of Putin and will never let them self be ruled by Putin's puppet government.

Despite his hyperfixation on the Ukraine, Putin is completely blindsided by this simple fact. As more proof, Viktor Yanukovich has recently appeared in Minsk, and there is a plan to reinstate him as the new president, a source in Ukrainian Intelligence claims. Yanukovich, the ex-president whose corruption and complete subservience to Putin was one of the main reasons for Maidan 2014. People would sooner accept his golden toilet as president than see him return.
Big picture sure, but in betwenn then and now there will be a lot of dead people.

Russian authorities admit 500 dead and 1500 wounded.
So knowing Russia that is way lower than the actual losses, so it might actually be higher than that US estimate of 2000.
Seems like Russia is officially in default.
If I had a nickel for every time I've watched Russia die as a world power in real time, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it's happened twice, right?
UN General Assembly votes for condemning the invasion
The motherland failed to vote because they haven’t paid their UN membership.

Oh man i thought you were just making a joke but that was what really happend? Wut?
Who would win:
40 mile Russian convoy vs. a flat tire?
Hey, all it takes is one slow driver to fuck up the traffic.
UN General Assembly votes for condemning the invasion
Knew there wouldn't be many against, but it's interesting to see how many (and who) abstained from it.
The Against votes are unsurprising (the Satrapy of White Ruthenia, Happy Funtime Land, Russia itself, Assad who's regime continues to exist entirely because of Russian air power) except for Eritrea which is fairly random unless Asmara thinks it's getting Russian support in the event of things with Ethiopia heating up again.

Nope, no joke beyond reality, they need to fork over 40m$ To be able to vote again, as per late fees .
Russias "ministry of enlightenment" to hold an information program about why the "operation to liberate Ukraine" is neccesary. Also Putin feels the sanctions are unproportional to his actions, not that these puny sanctions could hurt mother russia and even if they did China said i could have their piggybank
Ukranian gov’t admit the fall of Kherson.
And the Kyiv convoy seems to be having a bad case of Pinsk Marshes.
I worry, that if they don’t know basic car ownership of “move your car once a week at least”, what is the status of the nukes.

The latest thing is that some of the surrendering Russian soldiers are ration less and passport less.
Go ahead, arm the people who are against the war. The tweet says that this come from a minority party, maybe it is exactly that? A fringe destabilization attempt ?
Doesn't matter, scare tactic or not, the mere fact they are trying this crap shows they're desperate and care about no one but themselves.
Nobody sentenced to forced conscription would even reach Ukraine. It is a simple excuse to legalize opposition murder. Well, would be because it is LDPR law project, and not United Russia one. Then again, the war got started because of the law drafted by CPRF, so who knows at this point. It is a scare tactic, and it is working, people are booking out flights from Moscow by the minute. Meanwhile, other people are buying out everything down to wetwipes in IKEA since it is closing tomorrow.
Urge to reread Hannah Arendt essays.
The US branch of Russia Today is shutting down. That hard won propaganda network Putin's constructed is disintegrating right before his eyes.
Like Kaiolino I’m still wonder where our body Snowden is at.
His silence since his buddy Putin invaded the country is pretty worrisome.
So, how do you feel about channeling weapons into Ukraine?
Personally, I feel like there is no choice but match strength by strength, and the argument of pacifism feels like an awful idea against an invading army, and that the diplomatic options should have started 8 years ago.
What I’m actually asking is not if there should be weapon shipments, but at this point in time is there a better option with the objective of diminishing suffering? As the politicians and posters only say “there must be a better way” without an alternative.
Most Swedes now in favor of joining NATO.
51% in favor, up from 42%
27% against, down from 37%
22% undecided, previously 21%
What does it take to unite together a seemingly divided Europe and a organization seemingly devoid of any purpose? Just one delusional, paranoid bald Hitler wannabe. For all his stupidity, I'll give that to Trump: NATO needed to take its role more seriously and spend more in defense.

this is a terrible idea, there is no way they will match up to the russian army, you're just encouraging them to go to their deaths
On a side note, I did not expect the situation to go like this at all.
Some information from within Russia for those who are interested as I'm russian but live abroad.
Some friends got letters that they might be called to the army.
Some friends got arrested and fined 10000 rubles for speaking a foreign language in the streets.
A friend of mine had an import business he had built up over 6 years, and bought a house on a mortgage, that's all gone within a day doesn't know how to pay the mortgage.
Some people I know that had money in Euros/Dollars in sanctioned banks literally have their money frozen, more like gone.
Supermarkets are almost empty.
No cash in the atms.
One friend who had to do the military and has a rank of lieutenant has received a letter that he might be called in, he just had a baby 2 months ago.
Everyone is bloody terrified, they would like to say something but those who do are taken never to be seen, or at least not in the coming years.
I have never lived in Russia, but lived in France, were the people would strike every other day, I really hope the Russians take a stand and topple this ridiculous gouvernement, however the last 100 years have proven that the Russian is a nation that's been so oppressed by their leaders that they all shake in fear. I'm not sure this is going to go anywhere.
On an other side note I found this incredible Lecture by Professor John Mearsheimer from the University of Chicago which explains the situation(He predicted the war 7 years ago)

Our polls don't really matter as we have an agreement to abide by whatever Finland chooses to do. We are both near the mouth of the beast but their actual teeth are over Finland. As it's been there has been an understanding to not go into war because war will not come to us, but the way things are going if Russia doesn't respect our neutrality and wants to hurt us it is better to be prepared. But like i said it is up to Finland to make the call when enough is enough

The Russians will try to slaughter them as much if they have a handgun as if they have a rocket launcher. Put the biggest piece you can give them in their hands and let them decide their own way. Encouraging, discouraging, to me these are none-issues. In the end it's up to the people affected to decide their own way.

Fair enough, I wish Nato would encourage them running away instead of wasting their lives and leaving behind wifes, sisters, daughters and sons.

I don't have a background in politics, care to explain?
I don't have a background in politics, care to explain?
Realism is a theory whose main assumption is that states behave as single organisms (as opposed to a collection of groups or individuals with competing interests) and always follow their rational self interest.
Mearsheimer is it's primary advocate.
In this situation for example his argument is that Russia would not invade Ukraine because it was not in its interest, but that when it did, it was NATO's fault because when the US acted in its interest by expanding NATO, it acted against its interests by not respecting Russian interests.
Or his theory on Iran. It's in everyone's interest for Iran to have a nuclear weapon because Israel has one, so deterrence theory says neither will ever use one, but it's also good that the Iran nuclear deal happened because if they got one America would start a war over it.
His work is filled with internal and intertextual logical inconsistencies. Axioms become conclusions, conclusions become assumptions. Every state is rational, except in my book about the Israel lobby where I lament that the US is not.

Thank you for explaining.
I guess it all comes down to what is more worth to America right? So for them expanding, and having russia war against Ukraine is a risk they were willing to take because of little drawbacks for them if it come to it.
