Everyone else has a secondary purpose but he only stabs things
@Zik:
Don't think either matter much.
Yamato is super strong. Only reasonable being a son of a yonkou. The other strawhats aren't stagnant. They're not going to stop getting stronger.
As for meeting tye rest of the crew there's always time for that to happen. Even now. Who knows where the fight with Kaido ends up. Might not stay on the rooftop. Besides that its Luffy that ultimately decides who joins. In the off chance Yamato doesn't see another strawhat until Kaido is defeated plenty of time during the party to get to know them and as they sail to the next destination.
I get the feeling that Yamato’s role will be related to strength and achieving her ambition for the world more than anything else.
I also believe Yamato is set to leave his Kanabo behind.
Either because is a symbol of his tragic past and Kaido's regime, or because Kaido is going to break it and Yamato is going to start being more prolific in combat with his DF
People still in denial about Yamato joining? Well somethings never change

His Kanabo is already notably different in it lacks spikes.
If Sanji can use the raid suit even after claiming he would never do so I don't see a problem with Yamato sticking to his kanabo
Just give Yamato a second Kanabo! Lol

Well it could help if Yamato interacted with the rest of the crew more. Feels disconnected as is I presume.

I get that but he just announced he would sail with Luffy after Wano! it’s a done deal regardless of what you might find lacking
It’s going to happen now it’s just people holding out hope for a character they want, that they’ve spent years arguing for, not wanting to admit there wrong and that they argued for years on end for the wrong character
or people who don’t like Yamato refusing to believe Oda will have him join because of there personal taste, like Jinbei before him

I feel like you can agree Yamato is the strongest candidate while keeping the ablity to have the objective thought of knowing it's not guaranteed to happen.
Not everyone who is not 100% sure of it or has issues with it is "in denial". They just want to keep an open mind about what is going to happen in future chapters.
I personally think Yamato is probably joining but I hope Oda actually fills the checklist of things I believe are still lacking about him.

Yep, of course Oda could make it so that Yamato dies in the process of attempting to protect Luffy. It would admittedly feel like a waste after the strong relationship that potentially started to build with Luffy giving her freedom and Yamato challenging an Emperor for his sake, but not impossible.
Eh, Oda is probably building up to some hijinks during the end party. Everyone congratulates Luffy on his win, then Luffy announces to the crew that "This is Yamato, Kaido's son. He's coming with us." Que everyone getting Enel-face and freaking out. That won't work if the crew is acquainted with Yamato already and know he's on their side. Nami, Usopp, and Chopper having the best reactions of the bunch.
No new crewmate NEEDS interaction with the crew before joining. Look at Brook. Luffy asked him to join to everyone's surprise before anyone had really interacted with him. This was even repeated during the party after Thriller Bark. Oda loves his hijinks at the crew's expense.
Regardless, Kaido is now fully aware of Yamato's desire to sail with Luffy, so when Luffy makes it back, you can be sure it'll be a talking point when Kaido asks what Luffy did to his son.

Well Brook interacted with the rest of the crew at the start of Thriller Bark, whereas Yamato didn't appear at the start of Wano.
God I'm salty as fuck because after so many years of people telling me that Carrot looks to much like Chopper, Mr. Nami Face is the new deal. Fank you very much.

Mr. Nami Face? What?
Did anyone ever really say that Carrot looks like Chopper?
My thing is there is no real need for another animal like sidekick…. who would be his sidekick.
Which I am thankful Oda didn't go this route.
@Dorobō:

The time we met the Minks. And beyond.
If you say so.
More redundant than lookalikes.

Well Luffy did say "Like an island full of choppers" or something and that was ran into the ground.
Kaido loses his Kanabo while in Dragon form.
I'd simply find more original if its revealed that Yamato could never expand his abilities on his DF, because of the cuffs.
And now he's planning to do so, which would also make him look like he actually has a lot of room for growth as well, unlike of what people are assuming right now.

Apparently every animal character is to be accused of being a bland no-personality mascot, supposedly like Chopper.
When Chopper is at his best, which is rare nowadays, he is full of personality. One of the best crew members even. The push should have been more to get him more screen time rather than getting him a sidekick/another mascot character on the ship.

Carrot always overlapped with Chopper's niche as the cute, naive anthropomorphic furry animal in the crew.
Oda once said he deliberately made his first crewmates generic because he knew designs would get stranger and more elaborate in the future, so future crewmates would always make the crew more freaky-looking. It's why Robin is the only true human SH post Reverse Mountain, and even that it's balanced by her having the freakiest DF ever.

I know you're being childish here but lol.
Nami gets plenty of screen time fine and is great. But yes, Carrot would have been her sidekick too and hard pass on that.
An apprentice on the Strawhats seems nonsensical. There is no significant benefit. Less than half the crew were on a pirate crew before joining the Strawhats. As a group, they have barely been out to sea. They were separated longer via timeskip then their travels together. If anything, they are a novice pirate crew that is lucky Luffy is the protagonist of One Piece. How long was Shanks, Buggy, Nekomamushi, Inuarashi, Marco, and Blackbeard apprentices before becoming full fledged pirates? Probably longer than 2 years.
Side note, Oda seems to have made sure that Yamato and Big Mom avoided each other. Could it mean something? Just a thought.

Oda admitted he turned Chopper into a mascot too, one with personality, and doesn't regret it either.

You'd have a point if they had spent 2 years inactive, but that was not the case. They absorbed knowledge and skills to make their piracy easier.
Studying is part of work.

I will say that I feel that Carrot hasn't gotten enough time showing herself to be a driving force. Luffy and his other crewmates I feel have been shown capable of being active enough to be the main protagonists in their own manga, who very much go after things instead of waiting things to come to them and not just take orders, and Carrot I feel hasn't really felt that way to me until she decided to go after Perospero on her own, and getting defeated in the process.
Super Saiyan Carrot obliterating BMs fleet didn't felt like waiting for things. Her jumping into an adventure with Luffy either.
Chopper hasn't got that much screen time post-TS (like most strawhats, really) but I feel like he is top 3 in most character development among them.
Current Chopper is completely different than pre-TS one. He is confident. He leads others. He is proud of being a monster if that helps his crew. As much as the ice oni virus plot was pointless, I love how it showed Chopper as being completely in control of the situation. Chopper went and already became a brave man of the sea while Usopp wasn't looking. The recent chapter where Chopper was afraid of Luffy being dead stuck out because Chopper hasn't showed doubt like that in a long time. It was a natural lapse of regression for a character who has progressed a lot.
Of course, in order to showcase how much of a leader Chopper has become, you need sidekicks to be led. Enter Carrot. In WCI, she provided Chopper chances to showcase his development, particularly in the scene where he comes up with a plan to take over the mirror world, and she follows it. I feel like one of Carrot's primary roles in the story has been to be Carrot's "little sister", so that he can develop his own leadership skills. In a way, she is Chopper's mascot.

I feel that Chapter 1007 is Chopper's best post-timeskip chapter. It shows not only how physically strong Chopper can be, but also how far he has come as a doctor and how ambitious he can be and how much he's willing to take a stand, which is great. It's why I anticipate he betters his worth as not just a doctor, but also as a fighter in light of none of his attacks working against Queen too.
Well, this (Carrot's whole deal within Dressrosa) is Shift's territory.
My point was that, if you connect Chopper and Carrot for some strange reason within the the New Nakama discussion (and this happened way before the ChoBro story), I can connect Nami and Yamato for the same reason.
Oda seems to have made sure that Yamato and Big Mom avoided each other. Could it mean something? Just a thought.
He has consistently avoided a confrontation between Kaido and Jinbro too.
If I had to guess, its because Jinbro's union comes directly from leaving Linlin, as well as Yamato is occurring from leaving Kaido.
So, its probably Oda trying not to mix it up.
I'm also still feeling conflicted about the Vivre Cards, I mean yeah, Yamato and Merry can share slot 11, Merry is dead anyways, but they could've been simply leave a blank spot…
God I'm salty as fuck because after so many years of people telling me that Carrot looks to much like Chopper, Mr. Nami Face is the new deal. Fank you very much.
Yamato has so many things going on with her design, even if she kinda looks like Nami (in a zoomish shot), you can't mistake her for Nami from a far. Horns, unique hair color, heights etc.
Then Carrot. Without Sulong she's just a rabbit girl with blond hair. Like, a very basic design for a Mink (like Wanda, a dog with long hair). Not even unique design like Nekomamushi/Inuarashi (but they're leaders so they must look unique). I'd reckon if Carrot has another quirk in her design, like say, Mirko from Hero Academia, she will stick out more even without Sulong.
But no, she's too forgettable at this point that Oda couldn't bother to include her in random reaction panels.
Carrot's design problem wasn't looking like Chopper, it was that it was a bland rabbit girl design with no real creative thought put into it
Catviper and Pekoms have great designs, much better than Carrot, throw in the fact that Pekoms has a devil fruit hybrid we've yet to see and is clearly going to be reintroduced into the story at some point, I'd say he has a much better chance of joining than Carrot (even though he won't)

To be fair, Carrot is still unique compared to the rest of the SH crew and most other characters in the series. Yamato has a face that is eerily similar to Nami's, horns, a kanabo, fighting style, and stature like Kaido, and an obi and sandals like Oden. Even part of his personality is borrowed from Oden. The only thing that is really unique imo would be his hair.

Part of the reason for Yamato's creation was probably because he liked Oden so much that Yamato could fill in the void of his absence without having to resurrect him. Very valiant and auspicious, but also has room to realize that you don't need to be Oden and push aside your individuality to gain freedom and strength.

SH's oftenly only have one unique trait, that no one in the entire series does.
Nami has that ability to predict the weather
Jinbro can talk to bigher fishes than regular.
Zoro has a sword on his mouth
Sanji is inmune to Judge's treatment to make superhumans
Robin's the only human alive capable of reading Poneglyph
And yes, tricolored hair, is unique as hell in the entire series.
It would be wholesome if VP made a Kaido clone (along with the Artificial DF) and when escaping Impel Down, Kaido felt responsible and brought the clone along.

I don't doubt that. I'm not saying they're a knock against against the character. My point is that people that complain about Carrot's design yet embrace Yamato's aren't being fair. One character still has more unique traits than the other. When it comes to SHs, unique qualities are a big deal.

For what it's worth, I don't think there has been a single mention of Kaido's wife/Yamato's mother yet.
Sanji was the craziest of the cooks to recruit from Bariete
Franky was the ctaziest of the carpenters from Carpenter island
Chopper as well, no doctor in Drum a.k.a. the land of doctors even compares.
Wano's been the land of the crazy hairstyles, Yamato getting the craziest of all of them, its remarkable.
Prolly his position would be Stylist:ninja:
As from Zou, the Dukes, Pedro and Pekomz are all the Craziest Minks, but If I had to choose, Pekomz had been the most Unique of them all, especially because of his DF.

She was introduced attacking the best character in the series that will become the greatest swordsman.
She tried to kill Luffy over food after his crew saved her country.
After her country was attacked and almost wiped out, she plotted to selfishly go on a trip when most were begging or pleading with leadership to do it to help the saviors.
There is no competition when it comes to being a nut case here.
I just remembered Color Phychology, and decided to give a search.
But first, Teal its already been assosiated with Yamato, its the color with which Yamato is represented in the global popularity poll results, and its the color of the wig he was wearing along with the mask when first introduced.
Here's a bit of what results gave me.
"People who like the color teal are reliable and independent individuals. They are naturally creative and think for themselves. A teal lover has an even temper and a thoughtful disposition. He or she likely has a talent for mediation and finding a compromise. On the other hand, people who are attracted to teal can be pretentious and prone to overthinking every situation. They may think too much instead of acting on their desires"
Those two parts I bolded, I found them to be highly comparable to Yamato, as he has been reliable so far, not so much independent(yet), but hasn't been will broken like the others.
And the second bolded part, that would be what both Ace and Kaido have hinted about, Yamato's been overthinking his escape for 20 years straight, and its only intetested in acting right now.

Oda admitted there are many beautiful female faces he likes, but I think he more than made up for that shortcoming. It’s a very striking, exotic sort of design, harkening back to Oden’s masculinity with a design that’s feminine by Oda’s standards at the same time. The wildly colorful hair is also a nice touch. Some may say the garment is shameless, but I think it can fit with the free-spirited and confident attitude Yamato has.
