We already knew Snakeman looked like that from the Volume 89 cover. Now we know that was not Oda changing his mind on Gear 4 in general because Boundman is still black.

So based on the new images, it seems like the anime got the colour of the big tree over the flower capital wrong.
Having it be cherry blossoms makes a hell of a lot more sense with the constant rain of petals in the area.

Got the volumes. Loved every page of every one of them. Could probably take one or two screencap requests, within reason, for the super impatient.
Disappointing they left the popularity poll results in monochrome again. The extended recap before the Reverie tragically got the same treatment. But hey, all the actual canon material looks as good as ever.

Can I see the panel with Snack and the BMP arriving at Wano?

Redon any chance for the Film-reel page?

This page would have a great aesthetic appeal in vintage-looking black and white.
-
god why can't we get the colored edition over here ;-;
-
There are plenty of very good reasons Oda's black and white inking doesn't always match up with the light/dark tones of his colour schemes and it's not a problem that he does it… but god, imagine being the colourist assigned to work on Robin's Wano outfit. The frustration you'd feel as you start out by essentially having to invert the whole thing as step one.

Surprisingly, coloring over black linework is actually pretty easy in Photoshop. I use mask layers all the time to color character outlines.

Aren't there any links for the new coloured volumes?
-
Wow the coloring in these spreads looks absolutely amazing. What can we do to get these in English? Should we write to Viz?

One thing I really appreciate in the new set is the passage of time through volumes 88 and 92. Both volumes feature day turning into night, and in both cases we see it expressed with a creeping purple twilight over the skies that shows the day ending far more clearly than straight black and white art could ever hope to.
Surprisingly, coloring over black linework is actually pretty easy in Photoshop. I use mask layers all the time to color character outlines.
I assume it's easy enough to fill a space with colour, but in this case would they not have to carefully paint around the edges to leave it with black outlines to make it look like it was intended to be coloured? I would have assumed adding a stroke to the layer wouldn't be precise enough to substitute Oda's hand-drawn linework. But I'll defer to your experience. I know a little Photoshop but I've never done serious colouring work like this before.
And anyway, I'm sure they have their own ways to do it quick and easy, I was just enjoying the irony in Oda's choices.

If it were me, all the outlines would take is Magic Wand to sellect all the black lines, lasso to deselect everything I'm not painting over, and contracting the remaining selection before filling it with color.
From what I can see there, looks like they did something similar: all the lines seem uniform width, following the original outlines of the flowers pretty closely. And they'll have done it on the original sized files so they can easily check for errors, and any flaws will be minimized when it's shrunk down.

Well technically you can extract it without change the extension name with 7zip.

Thanks Redon and Dincht. Mega downloads faster.
I use YACReader. There are still some improvements that could be made to it but it works pretty well.

Oh damn I already have 7zip, I just didn't know it could do that. Saved me some trouble, ig.

Thank you Redon and Dincht!

thanks, Dincht! Managed to check it all out (and I ended up thinking Oda's art quality is looking rather poor these volumes in general terms).

Do you guys feel like the colors are brighter than before?
Actually I think you have a point. It's not so much that the colors are more vibrant, but the colored manga takes a lot more attention to lighting.
For example this shot is a little less saturated because it's in a dark room
Or this shot is a little brighter because the Throne room has some limelight -

Well, is that Oda's actual planned colour? Who knows. I don't know if they are always picking the right colours. I think at least Morgan's colours were wrong.

Oda coloured the throne red on the cover of volume 90. Which was right there in Redon's post with all the download links. A little hard to miss.
In cases without Oda's art to compare with, the only real measure of what hasn't come out and intended is if it was altered for the Vivre Cards, which to my knowledge has only happened with Morgan, Helmeppo's original outfit and Vitan. Out of thousands of characters, the colour manga's track record is pretty damn good. I'd defer to it over the anime for colour accuracy.
(This is of course excusing cases where Oda himself has flip-flopped, so, Kuma's orange/blue clothes, Law's blue/black hair and Franky's blue/black Wano outfit, where the colour manga had to pick one side or the other)

Gosh, I missed the cover. My bad. I knew they kept track of A LOT of characters, even ones like Pearl that kept the original colours instead of the anime's. It's a shame that they changed Kuma's colour in his first appearance (it could have counted as a different outfit to me), but I understand that Oda changed the colours cause he liked the blue one better.
The fact that you can count only three characters talks about how much they care about this. -

The fact that you can count only three characters talks about how much they care about this.Yeah, the attention to detail is super impressive. Even things like some chraracters' eye colours that the anime got wrong are maintained throughout.
I definitely agree with you on the Kuma thing. It would have been cool to see the orange for at least one appearance just a nod to the old art of him. Hell, it might have been cooler still if they used the orange to blue change to signify his loss of individuality and falling in with the Pacifistas after that happened, but I guess Oda must have been firm on it being a full retcon. Ah well.

You still can't see if Sanji used hardening

Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining about the digital coloured manga's palette choice at all. I was just surprised about the choice, like with many others Oda makes. The guy is a bit… Eccentric, to say the least! And I also totally missed the cover that is sitting in my shelf at this exact moment depicting the throne red. I was just so mentally fixated on the throne being dark blue/white/golden, like most World Govt. related stuff.
I really appreciate your suggestion of Kuma wearing orange when he was still himself and changing to dark blue as he becomes a government weapon. That would be a really cool way to visually depict his character transformation. His story is one of the things that interest me the most after Wano, actually. He was given quite the emphasis in Mariejois along with Bonnie, one of the last two supernovae to be explored and given center stage. This makes me think it won't be long before the Straw Hats are involved with both.
-
I literally just double clicked and it opened. I use a chromebook fwiw

The only case I can think of where the colored manga is The Lord of the Coast.
his color scheme has black and white fins which contradicts the Chapter 516 color spread
Another strange case I can think of is Jango.
In the Volume 4 cover, Jango had black shades with a blue-white mushroom stem. So the Colored Manga colored him accordingly
But in One Piece Green: Deep Secrets, his shades are red with a blue-pink mushroom stem
So after Syrup Village and his cover story, Jango looks like that
But that's just another Kuma/Law/Franky case like Captain M mentioned. -

Never would have thought to double check the colour of Jango's glasses. Things like that and eye colours are too small even for me to bother staying on top of lmao. Definitely love that they actually used his canon costume/allegiance change to update the colours though.

You still can't see if Sanji used hardening
Kind of interesting to think about because Oda has been beating around the bush about this for a long time. We know he can use it, but he hasn't allocated a single panel to demonstrating it. Honestly bizarre.
Especially when I think about his Epithet being "Black Leg" of all things. Like Black Arm Z, who gained his epithet for his Coa usage, I wonder if Oda is going to take Sanji down that path. (As well as being a reference to Zeff's Moniker).
-
Does anybody have download links to the Japanese raw of volumes 82, 83, and 86?

i love these digital-colored chapters. i wish theyd release them in color always, but know its not logically possible.

Yes, they are awesome.
Bleach DCRs with 3056p resolution (maybe upscaled, who knows, but they look SO good so who cares) are a total pleasure.
We need more of these, definately. -
